That’s heart breaking for sure 😢😢😢 Just know we are so grateful for you and everything your do for the community 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you Gary for being the man 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Sorry about the bad news with purple label. Great tip about CCS restore removal and pressing 👌. Sending a couple of mine down that road now too. Keep on Comics!
This is where being EXPERIENCED in the comic book world is able to take 'lemons' and turn those into 'lemonade' situation where you decided to just have restoration removed from the DD1 instead of just accepting this harsh fact which most would have done. I will add this to my memory banks should i ever encounter a situation like your DD1 restoration with any comic i decide to have graded by CGC. All newbies and experienced comic collectors could learn a thing or two from this video. Thanks for sharing not so one of your great moments and keeping it real!
Bummer about the purple label, but I'm glad you're making the best of the situation by sending it back to have it removed. Looking forward to seeing the difference when it comesback.
Sorry about the PLOD. I did something similar with Avengers 10. I said to make sure you count the pages and I must've messed up because I got a green label back that was missing the pull out poster. Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one.
I love purple tops! I'm not a speculator so as a pure collector I think there's a lot of value in restored books. Nicer looking books for lower prices!
I started speculating, so I could get a copy of my grail: Silver Surfer #4. When I finally decided to get it graded, it came back restored. I bought a blue light and I couldn't spot the "small amount of color touch" at all. I'm actually quite astounded at how many restored SS 4s are on the CGC census.
At that grade, you are right the tape wouldn't give a purple. That small color touch would. It would probably be worth cracking, removing and re-grading for a lower blue label
I think the amount of hit you take on the value depends on the restoration and what people think it would grade as a blue label. A-1 does not affect the value nearly as much as a B-4 for example.
Likely the only way I'd ever be able to own it. I know it's a purple label, but as you so often share, it's an entry level for those of us that can't afford something super nice.
The colour touch isn't the real problem, Gary. It's the tape they mention, to re-attach the cover. I hope you can get it sorted out, my friend. But, if nothing else, this video proves that even the best of us, can make mistakes. :)
Happens to the best of us at some point. Didnt know my spidey annual 1 was missing pages when I bought it at nycc. Not sure if the seller Terry's comics knew. Cgc knew tho.
Gary... If you got back 3 ASM 365 (9.6) CGC graded (Black /Hologram on cover). Would you send them back to CCS to be pressed to see if they would make a 9.8? There are no graders notes explaining the 9.6 x 3. Such a price difference b/w 9.6 to 9.8. Would love to hear your thoughts, if you have a moment to comment.
I know the feeling Gary. I sent off a silver surfer #1 to a presser and he called me back and said it had color touch and when it comes back it will have a purple label. I was so heartbroken -finally acquired a grail I have been searching for for years and it had color touch. But like he said - after CGC sell it and put it towards a better one
Great job of seeing the glass half full. Also in your favor, that's a clean 2.0; it should be able to absorb the color-touch removal and still be a nice comic...
still learning about the different stages involved in the grading process, thanks for the education about the purple label. although, to be honest, i'd be happy to get a purple label DD #1. ok. off to check out more videos.
Happened to me when I sent in Hulk 181. I purchased around 30 years and didnt know anything about restoration. Thought it would come back as 8.0 or around there. Returned as 6.5 purple label. still made a profit but not as much as I had hoped. Live and learn
I bought some nice books that turned out to have restoration that I didn't even notice when I bought them. One I only learned of when it came back with the dreaded purple label!
Too bad about the resto grade. I agree that having the resto removed is the best thing to do...you'll probably be much happier. Still a great book to have!
That makes me wonder if I’ve ever gotten a restored issue from eBay. I got a Nick Fury Agent of SHEILD 4 a few years back and something looked off. It looked different than the other issues in the run. I figured someone pressed it or something. I’ll have to go look closer new
I actually bought a couple graded restored books but they were also signed by Stan Lee. They have the yellow label with a little strip of purple along the top. Not sure if the Stan Lee sigs counterbalance the resto when it comes to value but worth the pick up for me.
My wife's uncle gifted me a copy of DD #1 that he had as a kid. It came back in the same grade as yours...blue label though. Still a cool book to own my guy!
Yo Gary. The amount of knowledge you have is amazing. And ot sucks about the restoration but even so seeing that sometimes things don’t go perfect is a part of learning that applies to us all And the fact that you found a positive route even in bad times. Says a lot about your character
Sorry for the bad result, but still a great vid. Was not aware that CCS did restoration removal; have a Batman 121 4.0 purple label that also says small amount of color touch on cover (though I've owned the book for 25+ years, I have yet to find it). Gave me something to think about. Thanks!
That was heartbreaking. Even Daredevil didn't see that coming..
That’s because he’s blind…
@@jasoncarpenter1438 😂😂😂 good one
His vision are restored
I’d take a cgc purple any day if for just my personal collection
right now else can a normal purple afford a blue label DD1.
I'm actually considering buying some slight restoration books, especially since unrestored silver age keys are out of reach for most
That look on your face when you saw the purple label.......CLASSIC!🤣🤣🤣
Always appreciate when folks share their mistakes. Hope ccs can work their magic for you.
Thanks for making this situation a learning opportunity for us less-experienced collectors.
Didn’t realize that even a small restoration affects the price that much, Thks for the education, good luck
What if you knew the green one was signed by a person with a remark
Heartbreaking. Hopefully the restoration goes well. Looking forward to the next video!👍
That was one heckuva emotional roller coaster ride! Thanks for sharing.
This is where being EXPERIENCED in the comic book world is able to take 'lemons' and turn those into 'lemonade' situation where you decided to just have restoration removed from the DD1 instead of just accepting this harsh fact which most would have done. To be that excited for a book and then it comes back restored is so heartbreaking.
That was definitely a learning curve for all of us too. Can't wait to tune-in next time, same Gary-Time, same Gary-Channel!
Way to be positive. Looking forward to seeing this book again.
Laughter always helps and in the end you came up with a stellar idea. I'm looking forward to the update video on this book.
- Just having a book like that would make me happy, Resto or No Resto 👍
Agreed. That's one of my grails right there.
Learn something new everyday. I never knew there was such a thing as restoration removal ! Thanks for the video.
Good solution to the problem getting the restoration removed and regraded!
Bummer about the purple label, but I'm glad you're making the best of the situation by sending it back to have it removed. Looking forward to seeing the difference when it comesback.
Tough break! But excited to see how it comes back after restoration removal.
The flustering in unboxings when the purple shows up… it’s unavoidable
Sorry about the PLOD. I did something similar with Avengers 10. I said to make sure you count the pages and I must've messed up because I got a green label back that was missing the pull out poster. Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one.
What a bummer! My heart would sink. I can't wait to see the end result.
Oooofffff......what a bummer. Dang.Excited to see how CCS does.
Your stuff got me to dip my toes into cgc stuff now. I both appreciate and resent you for that.
Looking forward to seeing the re-graded DD 1! Thanks, Gary!
My Incredible Hulk #1 came back color touched. I’ll be following to see how it works out for you. Maybe I might have the restoration removed.
I love purple tops! I'm not a speculator so as a pure collector I think there's a lot of value in restored books. Nicer looking books for lower prices!
The look on your face when you saw the purple label.....Priceless.🤦🏻♂️. Great video like always. Looking forward to the follow up to this one. 🙂👍🏻
Hey, we live and learn. Looking forward to the update.
Ouch! Really interested to see how this comes back from restoration removal and re-grading
The dreaded purple label. My heart goes out to you.
Your live reaction is very relatable. Still a great book. Best of luck getting it where you want it to be!
Love how you can laugh about it and turn it into an experiment. Your videos inspired me to start sending books in for grading again.
My entire collection is raw and no plans on getting anything graded and this is one of the reasons that give me the hesitation.
That is a rough one. Really shows the importance of using a blue light on those vintage books. Good Luck!
Used the bluenlight and still missed it. Not always easy
Daredevil 1 is my holy grail, I don't care if its purple. It wouldn't leave my collection. Stay safe my friend and walk with goodness.
That purple label doesn’t look to bad I’ll take it. Especially that sweet daredevil!
One second I thought It would be the return of the Daredevil comics throwing !
that beard came back fast!! appreciate you laughing off your mistake and allowing us all to learn from it!
Damn I really felt that reaction when you pulled the book out
At that grade, you are right the tape wouldn't give a purple. That small color touch would. It would probably be worth cracking, removing and re-grading for a lower blue label
Doh! Good luck, looking forward to seeing the book back after CCS does the removal.
Great attitude, Gary! Good luck on this venture!
Looking forward to seeing the DD 1 slab when it returns from CGC.
I think the amount of hit you take on the value depends on the restoration and what people think it would grade as a blue label. A-1 does not affect the value nearly as much as a B-4 for example.
Love all your content, sir! Your wins and losses help me gain experience as well!!
It's still a great book Gary. Will be interesting to see the results.
Ouch that tough but you took it like a champ! Great idea on the CCS submission. Can’t wait to see how it comes back! Great vid!
Great Book! Can't wait to see it when it gets back. Thanks for sharing.
Bummer, dad!!! Can't wait to see what it eventually comes back as when you finally get it back from CGC Storage in 2024!!!
Likely the only way I'd ever be able to own it. I know it's a purple label, but as you so often share, it's an entry level for those of us that can't afford something super nice.
That purple label is brutal… good luck on fixing it!
Looking forward to the experiment. Maybe grab a couple hi def shots of the cover before you send it & see if you can get a shot of what gets removed?
It is going to be interesting to find out where they color touched this book and what CCS does to correct it.
I never knew you could have restoration removal. Thanks for the heads up. Still a great video and your attitude is to be commended.
Thanks for all the knowledge! Looking forward to the followup vid.
That sucks Gary. My buddy sent a comic in and turned out that the edges had been trimmed. Whoops.
Tough break, Gary. But obviously an easy fix. I’m curious to see what it comes back as blue labeled.
The colour touch isn't the real problem, Gary.
It's the tape they mention, to re-attach the cover.
I hope you can get it sorted out, my friend.
But, if nothing else, this video proves that even the best of us, can make mistakes. :)
Can't wait to see the blue label on that Daredevil
I love how your mind works, Very Gary! Always thinking!
All these years collecting comics, I never knew what the purple label was... the more you know!
Just heartbreaking to watch that. Looking forward to the follow up video!
Cant wait to see what it comes back as once you send it to get fixed.
Aww that’s too bad!! Can’t wait to see it come back a blue label!
Still presents really well as a 2.0 - if you can get that purple to a blue, could be a really awesome slab
Interested in seeing the results of the cleaning and restore removal.
Awww man. Sorry. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Well I'm certainly interested in the follow up to this
Happens to the best of us at some point. Didnt know my spidey annual 1 was missing pages when I bought it at nycc. Not sure if the seller Terry's comics knew. Cgc knew tho.
Gary good luck with the restoration removal. Totally agree with your decision ... I hate that Purple label.
Gary... If you got back 3 ASM 365 (9.6) CGC graded (Black /Hologram on cover). Would you send them back to CCS to be pressed to see if they would make a 9.8? Looking forward to seeing what it comes back as
At least when something goes wrong you get a video out of it. Reminds me of Gem Mint’s Iceman debacle. Looking forward to the updated grade.
I know the feeling Gary. I sent off a silver surfer #1 to a presser and he called me back and said it had color touch and when it comes back it will have a purple label. I bought some nice books that turned out to have restoration that I didn't even notice when I bought them. One I only learned of when it came back with the dreaded purple label!
I'm OK with purple labels from CGC as long as it was fairly priced and there wasn't any trimming or other restoration(s) that cannot be resolved.
Too bad about the resto grade. I agree that having the resto removed is the best thing to do...you'll probably be much happier. Still a great book to have!
I felt that one, I literally gasped when I saw the title of this video.
Looking forward to see how it turns out!
Love to see how you turn this around
That beard is a TVA variant...lol
That makes me wonder if I’ve ever gotten a restored issue from eBay. I got a Nick Fury Agent of SHEILD 4 a few years back and something looked off. It looked different than the other issues in the run. I figured someone pressed it or something. I’ll have to go look closer new

I actually bought a couple graded restored books but they were also signed by Stan Lee. They have the yellow label with a little strip of purple along the top. Not sure if the Stan Lee sigs counterbalance the resto when it comes to value but worth the pick up for me.
That's a bummer but, can't wait to see the results now.
Bummer about the book Gary. But getting the restoration removed is a great option. Looking forward to the video.
Very interested in follow up video. Great stuff!
My wife's uncle gifted me a copy of DD #1 that he had as a kid. It came back in the same grade as yours...blue label though. Still a cool book to own my guy!
That's tough getting the purple label, looking forward to the next to see what it comes back as

Wow. Interested in seeing how things go with restoration removal.
You got lemons from lemonade and now you're turning those lemons into a slightly more sour lemonade. Cool.
Sorry for the bad result, but still a great vid. Was not aware that CCS did restoration removal; have a Batman 121 4.0 purple label that also says small amount of color touch on cover (though I've owned the book for 25+ years, I have yet to find it). Gave me something to think about. Thanks!
