  • In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I am sharing my mental health journey during my medical training.
I very candidly share my struggles, the "advice" I received from physicians about seeking mental health care, and why I think the stigma and system need to see major changes.
This isn't meant to scare anyone away from medicine, but just a personal experience of what it can be like navigating working as a physician with mental health struggles and hoping to shed some light to reduce the stigma. There are lots of us out there and we shouldn't feel that we can't speak up.❤️

As a provider, thank you for sharing your mental health experience! It's so vital that we treat mental health with the same importance as our physical health.

THanks for being so open and sharing about your journey! Such an incredible video. I'm honestly so outraged by the fact that you were actively told NOT to see a psychiatrist because it would look bad. Thank you for speaking up about it and I'm sure this video will help to show others in a similar situation that they are not alone.

Omg Jessica! Thank you so much for sharing. Moved me to tears because I have personal ties to the same question. Thank you for being so brave in putting this out to the world. I am also so impressed at how calm you are in the video, I still can't talk about any of this without breaking down :( Much love from NOLA :) I hope we meet in person one day to talk about these things.

Sara, I think the passage of time has helped me, and there are certainly times I have broken down about it. Ultimately I have made peace with it, and sharing it has helped me in some ways.
