I was on the pendolino from Carlisle and we passed the Pullman at Quintonhill sidings and were only allowed down a little arriving in Glasgow a mere 3 mins late
Now that makes sense and is what I would have expected - but didn't show up on Realtime Trains. The Pullman was running late because of a points failure at Liverpool so I suppose they were doing everything they could to make up lost time.
How many 325 sets make up a max length train (during Christmas rush)? I assume the middle tracks are for freights and locos that do not need a crew change, or are used for run rounds for loco's, or storage, or to get a train out of the path of other trains? When I visited Carlisle many years ago (for about 3 hours) the station pilot Class 08 never moved but had its motor running all the time.
A class 08 - now that's going back a bit! The centre tracks certainly can't hold a full-length Pendolino, whilst the freight trains these days are frequently longer than the entire station. The station pilot is usually a - little used - 47 these days but it often sits there with its engine running, making a noise and polluting the atmosphere.
Too true, sir, too true. Hitchcock never got that close to the camera lens. It was always a challenge to discover his cameo piece. That apart, I did like your sequences from the tea bar. Very different. PS. Those low level sequences give an idea of how a young rail enthusiast would see things. (Just an afterthought.)
a very good video with the older diesel trains and actually very interesting to see them but as you say you didn’t really get to see what you came to video today but definitely worth seeing those trains Tim
One of the joys of living in Dalswinton is how sheltered we are. If there is a storm I'm totally unaware of it. No joy on the keys front I'm afraid - and I'm not really expecting any.
Another lovely Tim well done great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on TH-cam bye for now Philip
No - just the old party-piece of sending a train into the wrong platform - just what you don't need when you're all carefully set up to film in the scheduled place.
Thanks Tim, great video. The conversation between the driver of the 37 and the Class 70 looked rather interesting. That was a very puzzling decision by the signalman to hold up the Pendilino for approx 41 miles behind the Pullman, especially when we're trying to run 125 mph railway, especially down the WCML! Good capture of the 2 Royal Mail trains, that apparently will be no longer as some new bloke in the Royal Mail has decoded they wont be running their class 325 TPOs. It may get farmed out to be included with other train operators as a joint operation as oppose to a dedicated Mail service.
Actually the 325s are not TPOs there is no staff on board and no sorting takes place on the train. They are for bulk shipment of 48 hour traffic. You’re correct that RM will cease to own their own trains in the near future however they intend to continue with rail on the WCML using a 3rd party TOC. They’ve been running down the service recently in June the ECML service from PRDC to Gateshead was cancelled indefinitely but the WCML service from PRDC to Shieldmuir via Warrington will continue due to the sheer volume of traffic that it carries and the logistics of the road network that are built around it.
Lucky you did not miss the pullman altogether, you can never trust Carlisle box and like York ROC have strange ideas of letting slow trains run in front of fast ones. The 37 and 56 were playing with a pair of snow ploughs at Kingmore I saw on another video. A good variety so it was worth going in the end.
Superb day at Carlisle. Thank you sir. Much love from the US!
@@xenonsaccord4447 - - - and best wishes reciprocated from Scotland.
Good variety Tim, liking that orange 37. Signalman like's to keep you guessing.👍
The 37 certainly stands out from the crowd. As for the signalmen - least said, soonest mended!
Thank you for sharing Tim, wonderful vid as always, lovely to see the 2 57s and the double header of 56 and 37.
Days that don't go as planned often go well in other ways!

You're most welcome!

Hitchcock's cinematography may have been better than mine - but he was even uglier than me!
I like your afterthought.
Hitchcock was there …… wheeling the bicycle along the platform right to left! Blended in quite nicely I thought!

Yes - I was happier with the end product than I thought I was going to be.
That’s good to hear also it was something different for you
Thank you Tim, a workaday Citadel this time!

Good action at Carlisle for you there 😀, better that I'm getting at Appleby today with the storm. Any progress with Saturdays problem

SMASHING, GREAT, SUPER. CHEERS
I take it you liked it!!!!! Many thanks.
What have they done this time ? Sent an electric down a non - electrified track ?

Start using open train times diagrams.

A more fruitful day than I thought it was going to be. Snow ploughs galore at Eastriggs as we passed by that morning.
@@schoolshorts They could of brought them from there then.
