We used to have different sports club when we were little in school, i started skipping when i was in 1st grade and continued for like 4, 5 years but then our club closed, and when pandemic hit, i used to do skipping as cardio, did not try to learn tricks and stuff, but I'm gaining my interest, i already know few basic tricks like double under and etc, the first ever rope i got was provided by the club, and it was the bead rope and ever since, it's my fav rope.

    Hi Lauren,
Well I bought my first beaded rope coming Wednesday. Received my jump rope mat today and in good timing. it's raining. The mat should help lengthen the life of the beaded rope and great for the winter. Excited to start this new experience. Not sure if you'll ever keep up with my progress, (you have so many fans and you are a very busy girl, but good to know you're there giving great helpful hints. Loved how you organized your video. Very classy you are. Oh and loved your little puppy. Really cute. Added a fresh welcome air. Thanks for sharing....

I’m happy to see how popular jump rope is becoming! Before a bad knee injury I used to jump rope all the time. It was my go-to 30-minute work out for 20-25 years. Here is what I found worked for me on this topic.
For fast skills I liked leather ropes even slightly better than PVC ones. Leather does wear out faster than PVC when jumping on something slightly rough like concrete though.
I found that both leather and PVC ropes would benefit from a bit of straightening when they were new. Often the way they are packaged puts a bunch of bends in them (similar to those computer power cords get.) I would hang them from something high enough that they could hang straight, and maybe even put a little bit of weight on them. If you don’t have space for that, hang them in half, but if doing this it is good to put something in the middle that keeps it from forming too tight of a curve at that location.
The other thing that wasn’t discussed was I liked weighted handles better than weighted ropes. You get the benefits of the increased weight but the rope can still accelerate and decelerate better as needed for tricks or when switching from single to double jumps. Weighted handles with leather or PVC was my main set-up.
I hope this helps someone. Again, I’m happy to see how popular this is getting. I miss being able to jump!

    • @superdave1921
      @superdave1921 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m with you regarding the leather ropes. My girlfriend prefers being tied up with leather instead of PVC rope. Plus, the whips seem to be much better with a higher quality. The only downside with leather is that she was so comfortable being tied up in a tight ball, I forgot about her and left to go on vacation. When I got back a week later she was was pissed off and hasn’t forgiven me! Perhaps I should change to PVC after all…..

@@annpower2501 Almost all ropes can be cut to length, so height isn't much of a factor in my opinion. I suggest being conservative when you start cutting though, you can always cut off more, but you can't put it back!

Recently found your channel and love it! In the past my ropes were leather which takes some breaking in. Neatsfoot oil being rubbed into the rope daily for a couple of weeks generally does the trick. I have tried and hated the wire rope type as they are too light for what I want (65 years old and still working out in the local boxing gym). I recently purcased a heavier model rope made for boxers (BoxRope) and absolutely love it. Despite a fair bit of osteoarthritis in my knees I still jump rope in rounds a couple of times per week. Keep the videos coming Lauren! Geetings from Canada. 😎🥊

I jumped with a relatively thick leather rope with a wooden handle (with bearings). Benefits: the rope was heavy and, like you said, you felt it going around...seemed like more control and thought allowed for more tricks. About the heavy handle (the wooden one), I acknowledge a good benefit for fitness...moving the wrist while jumping, my forearms really "hurt" more than my calfs from the jumping...that's the benefit I see from heavier handles: forearm workout. Great channel Lauren!

When I was jumping I had three ropes.
I think the first was bade from bungee cord, some wooden dowel for handles. The bearings were from a make your own nanchuks kit that I got from a Chinese importer before Massachusetts outlawed the kits too. I chose bungee cords because the other rope at the hardware store was either too light (nylon) even if I tied knits in it, or held kinks.
I think I then got a cheap plastic one. The rope was flexible but solid (not spun or braided) length of plastic. It had good weight and flexibility. The only down side was having to work it to smooth out the kinks from how it was packaged.
My favorite was one made from rawhide with wooden handles and ball bearings. It had good weight and the right amount of flexibility. It really hurt when I messed up though.
I don't think I ever thought about handle length or beading.
    Thanks for the good explanations.

A very lucid, well explained and narrated video. The dog is cute too, does he/she cut in when you're jumping as it seems to enjoy cutting in while you're videoing.
