In China's big cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, it is difficult to see fuel buses. 99% of all buses in these cities are electric buses. In Guangzhou, China, hydrogen energy buses have been used. I take hydrogen energy buses to the office almost every day. but hydrogen energy is not used by all buses. Only a few lines in Guangzhou use hydrogen energy. Hydrogen energy is a little louder than electric buses. Others are exactly the same as electric buses.

I am happy to say that in Finland we use Linkkers, Byds, Youtongs and vdls electric busses mostly in the Helsinki and Turku regions. Just yesterday we got a new operator to the turku region (nobina) that overtook 8 lines and now operates them with byd 15s. We also got some electric busses to 3 other lines, but those are not fully electric yet. Now 1/5 turku's busses are electric. Driven the Proterra.... junk. always broke down, cheap plastic build that rattles nonstop. Luckily there's gov't subsidies to keep them around. The up-time on those barely cracks 60% I'd assume. I mean they are ALWAYS BROKEN! And if you are in an environment where you have to run the climate control alot your batteries will be toast. However you can then purchase a diesel add on climate control system which is what they did at the place I worked. It's basically a big computer built on a MS Vista OS. Get used to having to reboot the bus and then when the shit totally hits the fan, you kill all power and walk to the back to turn the power off and on. Of course you wait 30 seconds before turning the power back on. It's like a three finger salute. And I've driving diesel transit busses that are 20+ years old. No way these things make it 12 years. Off to the scrap yard they will go.

Warren seems to ignore the big bus manufacturers in Europe, and also Russia, and the Middle East (Iran). The most likely reason is that numbers are difficult to obtain. I have numbers but fear US trading regulators, and they are not published. Here various models by Hyundai and Saipa (Iran) compare well with BYD. The point that must come through is that 200KWh batteries are enough for city use, LiFePO4 batteries are heavy, simple, and cheap. 500KWh will be too heavy.

These "new" buses are not actually new. They're all built on obsolete chassis and suspension. Their capacity is suitable only during rush hours. They are unsuitable for stop-n-go circuitous routes. Standard Yellow School Bus and paratransit lift-vans fleets (sans lift) should also be electrified starting with easy boarding low-floor chassis in shorter wheelbase lengths for 15- 20- 30-passenger models with battery packs in the floor rather than the roof for lower center of gravity to improve handling, safety and ride comfort. They should all have a wide rear window and clear glass instead of tinted.

They do not drive routes for more than 1 hour because then they would miss their scheduled arrivals. Max "range" needed is 50km. But with 1KWh per KM - this requires big batteries, as much as 400KWh. A Tesla X has 100KWh and NI ES8 has 150KWh, and buses should have enough for an entire day - 400km at 50km/h - using 1KW per km.

@@warrenyoung7991 But there is no bus route anywhere that is 500km. Buses drive 30-40km and return. Publish the statistics from real-world buses and actual use - with a number of passengers. When a coach bus has driven 400km, the driver must rest, this is the law in Europe (and should be in the USA). Use your figure, 0.7KWh/km = 280KWh, which can be charged at 350KW in less than the resting period of 40 minutes. It is only on TH-cam that people drive all day and night. They don't drive for a living, they are paid to post videos here. @@StebanHern you see, that is something I call, *bad maintenance*. I don’t know where you live, rather if it’s the United States, Canada, China, I don’t know, but what I do know is they not suppose to blast that much smoke. If that’s the case, the bus is either on its last legs and needs to be replaced immediately, or the company isn’t taking care of the bus.

Of course it takes some time to produce them, but the fear of not beeing able to operate them has been put away fast! It really works very well. So I don't get it, why bus companies are so much holding back in converting to electric busses! We should stop torching public with poluted air from busses!
