  • Demonstration of the AVR Performance paddle shift system.
The AVR gear shift system utilises the gearbox control functions available in all Motec Hundred series ECUs and is based on a pneumatic system.
The Mazda RX7 circuit car in this case is fitted with a Holinger H6S 6-speed sequential dog box.
Driver shift requests are sent from the steering wheel mounted paddles to the Motec ECU which times & coordinates the appropriate outputs for the shift.
For up shifts the ECU activates an ignition cut along with a coordinated output signal to a solenoid to fire an air cylinder/ram connected to the gearbox shifting mechanism.
For down shifts the ECU activates an air ram via a solenoid to blip the throttle and again times the firing of the solenoid to activate the air ram connected to the gearbox's shifting mechanism -- the clutch is not used for the downshift. A benefit of this is the braking is not upset by having to heel/toe.
By removing the driver from the physical shifting process the shifts are properly timed every time which is good news for the durability of the gearbox.
The upshifts measure consistently at 60ms -- to put that into perspective that's 10 engine revolutions with the engine operating at 6000 rpm. The throttle remains flat for the length of the straight with no discernable dips in the boost with each gear shift.

@LivingtheRotaryLife "For up shifts the ECU activates an ignition cut along with a coordinated output signal to a solenoid to fire an air cylinder/ram connected to the gearbox shifting mechanism." pretty much says it... the ecu shifts up a gear pefectly everytime...

@LivingtheRotaryLife btw he uses the paddles for downshift... he is racing and obviously a perftect shift every time is a faster time... maybe next time if you read the discription next time you would understand the video more...

I like the music and the car of coarse.

He is using the sequential system.... thats how the transmission shifts...... the only different is HOW it is being shifted.
In this case, the ECU controls the upshifts and the driver does the downshifts.

@Tj1056 ok so what does that have to do with what i said, he made a video showing the transmission fitted with the paddle shifters mounted onto the steering wheel, yet if u actually LOOK at the video he never touches the paddles to shift up, he uses the computer to shift for him

@LivingtheRotaryLife i got that right from the video discription fool... why does he need to touch the paddle shifters when it will do it perfectly every time? those are only needed when shifting at lower rpm

    I really like this setup!

Why wouldn't you just use the sequential system?

this video makes no sense to what your descripton says, or your leaving stuff out, i watched the video 3 times and have yet to see him touch the paddles for upshifts

@LivingtheRotaryLife are you confused about what an upshift is? when the shift lever goes back, its an upshift, activated by his right hand paddle. and that gear box without the paddles is like 15k, so keep dreaming bro.
