    I use the bottom of a disposable aluminum roasting pan, cutting it out and flattening it to get rid of the imprints used to stiffen the bottom. It's noticeably thicker than any rolled foil, more like the windscreen from a MSR Whisperlite. Since it has a large surface area, I can cut it down to whatever width and height I need for my stove/pot combination using scissors.

      Me too, for my MSR Pocket Rocket II. It’s easy to make, easy to use, folds any way you want it, disposable and easy to replace, and cheap. Real cheap.

    I use reflectix to wrap all of my cook gear, Nalgene bottles for extra protection from heat and cold, and stainless steel bottles. Never thought to use it as a windscreen. Brilliant! Great suggestions and video sir!

      Thank you for the kind words! Yeah so far so good for me. As long as there's a few rocks this setup seems to fair pretty well. Only once did the reflectix get a little to close to the pot (it kind of tipped over a bit and I didn't notice) and it melted just a bit, but no big deal, it continues to work like a charm. Take care my friend.

      @@TubaSolotheHiker good info to know. I'm wondering If the reflectix would melt if I boil water in my nalgene or cook food in a pot and then put them immediately into the reflectix coozy. Any thoughts?

      AG Survival let me clarify. It tipped over and touched the extremely hot pot but on melted a little bit after it had been touching for a good 20-30 seconds. So I’d say if your keeping an eye on it and not letting things get too close it will never be an issue.

      @@TubaSolotheHiker let me clarify, having understood what you meant about the reflectix wind screen melting when it leaned against the pot, do you think the coozy I made for my pot would melt if I took the pot off the burner with the boiling water in it, and slid it down into the reflectix coozy, would it melt because of how hot the steel is at that point? Should I let the pot cool for a couple mins before I put it into the coozy?

      @@LGSkywalker82 The problem with my situation was that the heat continued and there was no indication of a problem until the 20-30 second mark and it was more because I noticed rather than there was some kind of smell or other indicator. When I pulled the reflectix off of the rim of the pot was when I noticed a little bit of melting. With that said, I think you would be find to slide it right in. Especially if you are using Titanium. The good thing is that the instant you take heat away from Titanium it starts to cool. I at least have never noticed any adverse reaction when I've used Reflectix cozy's. Great questions. Thank you.

    Thank you for the great ideas! I normally use rocks or trees or both. I actually have some reflectix I used to make pot cozy’s with. I never thought to make a windscreen out of it. I will be using that on my next trip. Thank you sir.

    It's always a pleasure to watch your videos Steve, the wind screen I usually use while boiling with IsoButane is a short piece of Ti wrapped around and wedged under the handle. Looking forward to your next video 👍

    I've tried everything and finally ended up with an integrated stove.
    and again I have Jetboil Flash 2 and Minomo and MSR Reactor and also Windburner. to be honest, I prefer jetboil as I'm usually in forest and wood, For cooking, I take Jetboil Minimo and if I am in a windy situation I take windburner, for extreme conditions MSR Reactor. They are all pack perfectly and work great.
    I know they might be a bit heavier than others kit but so far they work great for me.

      Funny that you should mention. I just did a video on how much I'm loving the Jetboil MicroMo. Amazing little system. I would imagine the MSR version is just as great. Good stuff indeed.

    Great vid, Steve! I always admired how you took the time to build those rock wind screens. I sometimes find myself being lazy when it comes to windscreens probably causing me to consume more fuel than I should. But when I do, I use reflextic or my backpack.

    Great video, as usual, I like the Soto Windmaster but for me it is too expensive for the stage of life I am in plus it seems pretty heavy. I stay with my BRS and construct my windscreen. Have a great week.

      Hey Warren, thank you for the view and comment. I want to love the BRS but unfortunately the one I purchased had a lot of construction concerns. They seem to be hit and miss; guess I had gotten a "miss." I love the concept of the BRS though; super stoked its working for you my friend. Take care and you have a great week as well my friend.

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Seann. I just purchased mine from the local hardware store. They typically can be found in the HVAC isle and they come in bigger roles than you will ever need but yeah, its a one time payment and you've got all sorts of reflectix material for projects. Take care my friend.
