I’m retired now after 35 years. You made me laugh with the percentage question. I think I spent 75% of every classroom set up day looking, staring, and wandering aimlessly. 😂
When is your first day of school?
About 95% of my classroom setup is also just standing around and looking at things.
I laughed SOOO HARD when you stood in the middle of your classroom and just turned and stared!! That is 3/4 of classroom setup for sure!

Me too! I’ve been teaching over 25 years and it’s the same EVERY year, lol. My percentage is probably like 80%…especially pre fully caffeinated. Lol
One thing I do at the beginning is make a list on the board and add/sub as things come up.
I spend 90% of my time walking around my room saying "ok... I have to do xyz" then I panic and eat a snack lol

Oh my gosh! I laughed so hard when you just stopped and looked around!! 🤣😂 I watch all of these setup videos and wonder why when I get to my room I seem to just spend so much time just looking around!!! 😂
I can do furniture but stop and stare when doing the little things. Also love the socks I always take off my shoes when I’m working in the classroom.

I spend 80% of the time just picturing my classroom. I am a teacher in NYC and we will be in the building the last week of August, but like you I already started to buy the things I'll need to set up properly. I do enjoy your videos and how realistic it truly is. People just don't understand how much time we take to plan and set up and how much money we spend from our own pockets to make a quality and effective environment for our students. Thank you Kyle!
I am a retired elementary school teacher. My family always said they never saw me the month of August because I was prepping for the new school year. I have enjoyed watching your posts....and enjoy knowing all that is the past! Good luck to all teachers this coming school year!.

75% for sure, if not more. And, I am freaking out at this point, because we are not even allowed in our classrooms yet to begin setting up. We have summer school that runs through the end of this week. Hopefully I can get in the first week of August. I will have exactly one week before we have to officially start back, and that entire week will be professional Development.
75%, I wait till the weekend before school starts. I'm a procrastinator, one day I know it will come crashing down on me. But for now, I can deal with the pressure 3 days before.

Consider yourself lucky that you can put materials on top of cabinets. In California, we have something called Williams Facilities Rules, and we are not allowed to store materials on top of cabinets. That expression that you had on your face as you looked around the room is a classic!

About 50% looking around my room and 25% helping my friends with their rooms to avoid my own. Although in a brand new classroom it's probably closer to 75%. I'm hoping to lower that this year in my new school but we will see :)

At least 75% spent staring at my room, and I have been in the same room for several years. Most people don't realize teachers take apart the whole classroom and then need to put it back together every year.

Just a heads up about your science curriculum boxes. Don’t discard them, or ask your administrator about it because when the district asks for inventories they’ll want the boxes. 😕
FOSS! I loved teaching with that in ES! I did change them over to clear bins with tops and white open bins for larger items.

I’d say I spend 75% of the time just looking at my room and wandering in circles. I dropped off a bunch of new things in my room but didn’t do any setting up. We can’t go in next week because summer school ended and the custodians need to work uninterrupted next week to get the parts of the school floors done that were in use for summer school. Oh, I’ve also sent a few Amazon orders to school so they will be there when I go in to work! I also love watching Kim and Shelly. I teach special education in Greenville, SC. I’m originally from Ohio. Go Bucks!
15%. I leave most of my wall space for student work so setting up is pretty easy. My biggest thing is usually Word Wall (last year I created a word web which took up 6 x 18 space) and Our Tree of Books We've Read.

Haa haaaa! Not only do I just do that, but I also RECORD my entire classroom from the entrance. That way, I can see it when I get home 😄😄😄
For me it's like 80% of the Time and also I have to confess that during the 4th or 5th week of the quarter, I change everything again hahahaha 😅
SAME! We have parent-teacher conferences the end of September and I usually change my whole setup during my breaks.🤣
I have been working 2 weeks on my 8th grade class. Love the contact paper idea. I did the same on my desk, podium, and table; white shiplap.

Oh, I would say 85% of the time! The longer you teach the more you accumulate and have to figure out where to store everything! I'm trying to get rid of stuff that's for sure. Love your videos! You make me laugh! I'm not currently in the classroom because of the pandemic but you take me back to those wonderful prepping days! I love your class and the lighting is wonderful!

I'm not a teacher, but when I'm cleaning my apartment it is about 80% of my time just sitting there looking at my apartment.
I always do that day 1. I go in with a list and intend to stay all day but then I make a list, do one thing, and leave because I have frustrating anxiety that pops up in unexpected times that are kind of expected🤷♀️

I am not allowed back in my school, probably until mid-August. Teachers first required day back is August 25. I teach science and there are so many things! I want to take everything out of my cabinets and reorganize it this year. Wish me luck. 😅
Next week is my last week, so I will enjoy it until the last minute. We have to report back on the 2nd and students arrive on the 16th. I will probably set up the week before back to school.

I definitely do the looking around thing but couldn’t say a percentage. I can’t wait to start class room set up. Just got a new position and school this year so don’t even know what the room looks like yet. I am hoping to get to see it on Friday this week for the first time (for new hire week).
While sitting at my computer, 50% of the time looking at IEPs and 50% looking at the room to see how I can make the behavior plans, accommodations, modifications, and goals work in the room... and with the other students' IEPs. After that, while I'm implementing my ideas, 75% standing around...
Low key 80% of the time 😂 I’ve been wanting math key word/vocabulary to help the kiddos with knowing their signs. Would you be able to tell me where you got those?
If it’s a new space, and I’m setting it up for the first time, the percentage of staring around is very high…70%, but it should lessen with time.

I am transferring schools, from primary (9-12 y/o) to secondary (12-14 y/o). I can't get in my classroom, don't even know what room will be mine or which one I will teach my subject in (we have homerooms and instruction rooms). Sooooooo... Usually there's a lot of staring involved, but this year I'll just have to hurry while figuring shit out on the go!
Kyle I would have done the metal part of the desk only ans wrapped the cloth around the side and front of the side table.

My classroom set is also 75% of my time looking around. I feel like I’m starting my first year teaching again. I moved to a new city and state Canyon Texas. I teaching special education in new school district. I have the pleasure sharing resource room with another teacher. I will be doing.co teaching and pull out services. I am just not sure of the percentage of either one and don’t know the curriculum. I have been in my room once and have one small bulletin board, one big bulletin board, a whiteboard and several cabinets to put materials in. Any suggestions for setting up a classroom like mine. Quick question about your preps - I notice that you are doing three of the four cores, (Math, Science, and Social Studies) and your partner has Reading and Language Arts (I'm splitting it into two even though as a former ELA teacher I know even though it feels like two preps, it's all integrated). I'm a teacher in Texas, and I've almost always seen it split between two teachers as Math/Science and ELA/Social Studies, or with three teachers I've seen it split up Math, ELA, and Science/Social Studies (and if a campus/grade level is super blessed and has four teachers it's all departmentalized). I'm just wondering why it's split up like that between the two of you? Is it because of state testing? Is Science and Social studies on an A/B schedule where you switch between them everyday (MWF Science, TTh Social Studies)?
