This was my grandfather's Regiment. He was immensely proud of having been a Deutschmeister and having servied the Kaiser whom he loved.

Wunderbar! Fine work by the Hoch-und-Deutschmeisters who keep the glorious tradition alive. Bring back the Habsburgs who made Vienna and Austria great!

I saw this band play in the Hofburg in Vienna as the real Hoch und Deutschmeister band did in Imperial Habsburg times, using similar instruments and in the same formation. They were absolutely superb. Kappelmeister Nowotny and the band members deserve great credit for recreating the music of the period in such an accurate way. It's worth going to Vienna just to see them.

@Singuracti They were at Aspern/Essling and Wagram, fighting heroically in 1809 under Erzherzog Karl von Habsburg. A great tradition.

@helldamnation13 And it wasn't only the multi-nationalism of the Austrian Empire, it was the Rivalry of the Habsburgs to Bismarck's ambitions, both personal and for Prussia. I refer to a possible Confederation of Danubia, let us say, with a union of Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatis, --all of whom have so much shared history. At least Austria and Hungary, I would think. There are Archdukes Karl in Austria and Gyorgy in Hungary. Regards.

@helldamnation13 By the way, I am in favor of the Hohenzollerns being re-installed as constitutional monarchs and heads of state of a united democratic Germany. Non-political heads of state are better, I believe, than old politicians of some party becoming President Heads of State to signify unity, when people cannot forget that they were previous partisan politicians. Democratic monarchs are not political, and therefore, most apt to promote unity.

The problem with constitutional monarchy as Princess Anne and Prince Harry in Britain have pointed out is how dreadful it is for a child to be brought up in a goldfish bowl. Do the Hohenzollerns want the job? I wouldn’t. If they do, should they have it? The monarchy would have to be fairly informal with the monarch preferably known in some other capacity, as in the case of the Queen of Denmark, a highly talented painter and illustrator who illustrated the Folio Society edition of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, using her private name. But that is scarcely what some of the posters here want. I am a citizen of the UK and of the Republic of Ireland, and in Ireland in recent years we have moved the Presidency well away from being a rest home for redundant politicians. The present one is best known as a poet, although to be sure he was once a part-time, Labour [Social Democrat] local politician on Cork City Council. The important thing, as you say, to maintain a clear boundary between the offices of Head of State and Head of Government.

Correct. The Nazis hated the Habsburgs, and Archduke Otto, the late last Crown Prince of Austria-Hungary had to flee from them.

@FRAGIORGIO1 Up to 1866-when they had to leave the German association - while

How much do Presidents of the Republic cost? Do you know? It is not necessary to spend a huge amount on a democratic monarch who is Head of State. For tourism, monarchies attract visitors much more than president = money earned. For visits to other nations to promote your nation's culture and commerce, a monarch attracts more attention and promotes better = money gained for homeland. For unity of the people outside of bitter partisan jealousies, monarchies help and are Popular.
