Culture Musical Club - 1 - LIVE at Afrikafestival Hertme 2009

Arab melodies from Zanzibar.
Founded in 1958, the Culture Musical Club is Zanzibar’s premier taarab club. The
orchestra performs widely at concerts in Zanzibar town, but also frequently travels
overland with a fold-up stage and an electricity generator to bring its music to the
rural areas as well. The club has released hundreds of songs on the local market and
since 1988 they have had six releases on the international market. The orchestra has
had highly successful tours all over Europe in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005
and 2007; in September 2006 they toured the US to high acclaim, in July 2007 the
club performed in Japan. A North American tour is planned for the 2008-2009
season. Besides taarab, many club members are also active in kidumbak groups, smaller ensembles that play a more down-home dance-focused music. Both types of music are played on stage, contrasting the serene sound of orchestral taarab to the festive and sexually charged dance that is kidumbak.
On its tours the club regularly features invited guest singers. The summer 2009 will include the legendary 93 year old Bi Kidude, the veteran diva of Zanzibar, who is now in her mid-90s but is still famous for breaking taboos, both in her sexually-explicit lyrics and her bravery for daring to sing with her face uncovered.

The more I.listen to,the more I fall in love of such great music ..
Addictive music from Zanzibar.
So many emotions in the notes.
An interaction between the instruments directed by Rajab Suleiman who plays the qanun, a gentle exchange between
the oud, the violin, the accordion, the sanduku ....
and all this carefully and faithfully followed by Amour Haji who plays dumbak and sanduku.
As usual, I close my eyes. Soon I will be there in an unrivalled musical ecstasy. And as usual my tears flow gently of joy and gratitude.
What a beautiful music and what an interpretation ! Much love from Algeria

Very nice song..... super
The sound of natural instruments, from Greece to Africa.
But what wiki says is : The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses").[1] In Greek mythology, the nine muses were the goddesses who inspired literature, science, and the arts and who were the source of the knowledge embodied in the poetry, song-lyrics, and myths in the Greek culture. According to the Online Etymological Dictionary, the term "music" is derived from "mid-13c., musike, from Old French musique (12c.) and directly from Latin musica "the art of music," also including poetry (also [the] source of Spanish musica, Italian musica, Old High German mosica, German Musik, Dutch muziek, Danish musik)." This is derived from the "...Greek mousike (techne) "(art) of the Muses," from fem. of mousikos "pertaining to the Muses," from Mousa "Muse" (see muse (n.)). Modern spelling [dates] from [the] 1630s. In classical Greece, [the term "music" refers to] any art in which the Muses presided, but especially music and lyric poetry."[6]
I have the impression that the Arabs perfected music and even created instruments. Those Wki authors are many times disgusting ....
Have a nice day dear Neri .

Simply natural..... scarce in this generation.
love from Bangladesh
great tune. I especially like the picked zither technique. I'm used to playing with little mallets, but I think I need to see more of this style.
i feel relaxed listening to this...Beautiful ZNZ
