  • In my quest for the perfect bushcraft stove I purchased and reviewed this stove. I ordered from Ebay. Prices around 26 to 28 dollars seems the lowest. Note. For reasons stated in the video I intentionally placed the grate in the highest position. If interested in seeing the screen used in other positions check out this video.

    The handles on the stoves thread through the handles on the grill, which prevents the grill from falling off. Stove handles standing up threw the grill also creates a pot stand allowing use of larger then stove pans or pots without smothering out fire.

    If you have the version with the permanently mounted fire grate that drops in when setup: you can flip the stove upside down, pull the fire grate through to the opposite side of the tabs, now you can use an alcohol stove with the cooking grate on top. Prefect height.

      I've cooked with this stove using a Trangia, and I just sit the burner on the bottom where the wood is usually placed, with a frying pan on top of the grill like he used... This folklore about a Trangia needing to be exactly an inch from the bottom of the cooking vessel is hogwash. I just cooked medium rare steak with the burner 4 inches from the bottom of the pan. Any closer and you'll get what's called 'thermal runaway'...

    Love this stove. This and the UCO Flat pack mini are the best all around woodburning camp stoves on the market. I did not include the Fireant (or Firebox; can't remember the correct name) as the price takes it out of best ALL AROUND category. Thanks for the heads up, I'm really liking this stove design. I have an identical stove. With the pins in the lowest holes with the grate sitting on them, I use wood. The middle holes with the grate I use for charcoal and with the grate on the top holes is ideal for a spirit stove.

    I have one of these on the way from China as well. I think the smaller grid is best put on the lowest position though. This would create an 'air chamber' between the fuel and the ash plate. Looking forward to trying this out.

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As pointed out in the video there are 3 positions. I intentionally picked the upper one for this burn for reasons explained in the video. The results as shown were really good for that application aka replicate a twig fire methodology using a tinder bundle with kindling supported above. One thing I did not test beforehand was the middle position for maybe an Alky burner. Lots of options with this stove. Thanks for watching.

  • @sameold77

    Great video. I'm a stove-a-holic. I just received this stove and am waiting on the other version with the grate that folds down inside. Many different companies sell these under their own name. Hope to do a comparison video and burn test of the two different versions soon. This one that you have uses tent stakes to hold the coal grate which allows it to be adjustable. The other one with the fold down grate is not adjustable. I like these for the open flame fire they provide and ability to feed it large sticks/small logs and better control the heat, unlike most gasifier stoves. I have the other book style "fireplace" stove which I really like because it has more radiant heat. I have a torture test of that style posting very soon. These are well made and sturdy. Thanks for sharing. Mark

    Am ordering one of these as I have tried the smaller ones which are a bugger to keep going, this serves as a great stove and a nice small fire, which is cool as so many places are very antsy about fires these days, I have also used a mini swedish torch in mine , which I find saves a lot of time constantly reloading fuel

    Made some mods to increase stability involved small notches in bottom ash holder slides through front. And notches on top for grill. The two long pins also made notches or grooves so they don't move or slide out....much better more stable. Small but necessary modifications used a dremel tool with small metal cutting edge.

    I've had a previous models which are smaller and I thought to upgrade to something bigger, yet portable. I would probably go with the Firebox Gen 2 instead of Lixada this time, since they say it's made of a very durable and thick stainless steel, but it's way too expensive for what you get in my opinion. Gonna order this one instead and try it out.
    Also, this is the only review I've found about this new Lixada stove.

    Thanks for the review and explanation on the fire lay. I recently ordered the small Lixada titanium stove from Amazon and returned it the same day I got it. I'm not sure they actually sent me titanium. I think it might have been their cheapest stainless model. It was heavy, poorly machined, and surprisingly hard to assemble. It seemed like something you'd get from a dollar store. The product you received looks a lot better. Maybe I will reconsider Lixada products after seeing this.

    It looks like a really nicely designed stove with a really great price. I can get it for about USD17 including shipping where I'm at. I just can't get over the 850g that it weighs. LOL! Not sure I'll buy one because I can't see myself bikepacking with that extra weight. I'm currently using the smallest Lixada stainless steel folding stove with a 12cm round computer fan grill and it weighs only 200g. I even use charcoal in it for mini-BBQ. Really makes this new stove look like a total overkill...

    • @MegaWoodswalker

      For more UL applications I use a Core 4 Ti twig stove. Soooo much lighter. Thanks for watching

    • @jdshl8423
      @jdshl8423 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MegaWoodswalker , I haven't gone UL stove yet since I'm still using stainless steel (have another 3 more of the same stove spare to wreck), especially since the weight reduction for a stove already this small isn't huge for the price I'd have to pay. Technically, I could get a bigger Ti stove for the same weight as the one I'm using now, but that just means more fuel used to run a bigger stove, which I don't actually need.
      But this new stove is big enough to actually stick a decently sized log right down the top to burn for hours.
      Like I said, it's a good stove, just not sure many people actually need it, even when not UL backpacking. Even to fry up some bacon and eggs, it was over kill you know...

    The version I just got from Amazon only has one, permanent position for the fire grate. Looks like it matches up to the middle position.

      Sounds like you have the same one as me, by Redcamp, 10.6 inches high ?? And a Real Sturdy grate, unlike this cheap top to cook on ??

    I got one of those , never used it but I’m glad to watch your video, have you ever thought of using charcoal in it , that is what I plan to use if we lose power in the apartment, I can set it in a cast iron frying pan right on top of the stove , and cook one pot meals

    What tool is that to start a fire what is it called

    • @Arizona_Skin_Walker
      @Arizona_Skin_Walker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s called a striker or some call it just a steel, you can use high carbon steel too with the flint the rock he used or you can also use iron pyrite, also known as fools gold with the striker.

    I like this stove I hate how hard it is to put some stoves together I like the fact that this one is pretty simple

    God bless you my friend. If you didn't show me how to put it together I would have thrown it out by now. Just got it today and took a while to take the blue film off. I sliced my fingers twice in the process. As soon as I touch it, it wants to fall apart. The front door with ring sticks so hard, I'm afraid I'm going to bend the sheet metal opening it. Didn't even come with instructions. I'll give it a try, but at the moment seems like a real piece of shit. Thanks for your effort!

    Came for the stove, stayed for the bacon !
    video seems to show that this stove has very little smoke coming out of it, would this be near the same as small gassifer stoves ?
    looking at a few options on Amazon now and liked how big this one is for cooking compared to the rest.

    Where did you get the striker from mate ?

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amazon or Ebay though this one is from Amazon. They're all made in the same place IMO so pick the lowest price. 1/2 x 5 inch. The handle is DIY Kydex. Thanks for watching!
