    I've tested them all and this one is on the top of the heap. They all have differences like weight they can support, efficiency, parts etc. Simple, burns good and hot, and cleans up easily.

      Black Owl Outdoors SO many good ones out there. For a simple woodburning stove I would choose the 180 tack. For a strong buy heavy stove the Firebox. For a gasifier the silver fire scout and then solo stove.

      +Living Survival Which would you suggest for wet wood? Because I live in tropical rain forest country. Currently I'm torn between the Solo Stove Titan and Firebox 5"

      Firdaus Aziz the solo stove will be harder with wet wood.

    I love this stove. I was shopping at Cabelas and was happy to see they sell these for about $40. Great design and simple easy to assemble. Now my favorite outdoor backpacking stove. Works great with canteen cup, tea kettle, nesting mugs and steel water bottles. It's awesome just to make a quick small fire to stay warm just using twigs. Wish I invented it!

    What I love about the original, is that it’s big enough that you can enjoy it like a mini camp fire. It’s a great stove. I’d stay with this over the smaller versions. The weight is negligible when you spend a lot on super light tents, bags, pads, ect. Save the weight there to be able to carry a heavier luxury like this little gem.

    One trick is to hold the stricker still and pull the firesteel toward yourself, then the kindling wont get accidentally pushed away by the stricker.

    I have an Uberleven stove, it is almost identical to the Embelit with the exception that the bottom of the stove has a grate in it instead of the solid piece and the hole for feeding wood through is round and a bigger diameter than the Emberlit, it seems to have good airflow and I think that helps alleviate a lot of smoke unless I use a lot of high resin wood such as pine, great video enjoy your tea and your stove, love your channel!

    Your videos are some of the best ... so easy to watch, great camerawork and very informative. I use the Bushbox and find the warping to be minimal compared with the Emberlit, but the result is exactly the same -- hot tea! Keep up the great work!

    Good video...and there is something very calming and enjoyable about kicking back in the forest on a cool Autumn day, while making a fire, and enjoying a warm drink, or a nice bowl of hearty soup, prepared on your Emberlit stove.
    I can just about taste it now!
    Essentially a good way to clear one's mind of all of the daily clutter!
    The stove looks simple yet effective, and I think that they make a titanium version too.
    I'm going to look into some of these wood stoves that fold flat, and are lightweight.
    Thanks and have a good Thanksgiving!

    Been using the FoldingFirebox 5" version some. A bit to heavy for backpacking. The Littlbug Jr stove is more suitable for that. Very neat. Also been using the Firebox Nano stove (3"), small and easy to carry, but you will spend time breaking and piling up smaller twigs for that when burning wood. Works good as stand/windscreen for an alcohol burner (Evernew and Trangia or similar size)

    On the best piece of equipment I use is a pair of long handled pruning shears. The wood used in the stove requires a lot of finger sized pieces of wood.
    Compared to saws and axes and hard knife work the shears save your tendons and are quiet and very efficient

    perhaps using the pot supports, even with a larger pot like the msr, would raise it off the top of the chimney just enough to improve airflow and reduce the smoke and soot. i have this stove and IMHO, its a great one. take care.

    • @BlackOwlOutdoors
      @BlackOwlOutdoors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +irishedawg I could try that. The supports are meant to lock in place and sit flush with the top of the stove. But in theory I could just rest them on top as that would life the pot.

    • @irishedawg
      @irishedawg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you're absolutely right. They are meant to lock into the corners, BUT, keep in mind, this stove wasn't necessarily designed for larger pots, more so for canteen cups, gsi glacier cups, etc... leaving much more space around the top of the chimney. For larger pots, a bit of MacGyverism might be needed. Still a great stove for what it's designed for. Thank you so much for replying back!

  • @floydvaughn836
    @floydvaughn836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This stove is collapsible; it does not fold. Assembly is easier if you turn the 3 pieces upside down to install the plate. That way your hands don't obscure what you're doing. Turn upright to finish. Install the supports first. Light from the bottom and use supports to lean twigs against in an inverted teepee style. They'll burn down quick into coals. Now feed the larger stuff into the bottom. Done this way, you'll maximize heat output with a minimum of fuel and smoke. Pine cones are great for getting things going; they burn hot and quick.

    That kind of "tab A into slot B" stove is only good when you have the luxury of an abundance of small motor skills on a warm day. Put yourself into a cold Michigan winter with bare hands ( because you're not going to assemble this with gloves on) and you have a recipe for failure! One of those box stoves in which the sides all hinged together might be a better option for that brutal scenario.

    I actually have a review on the emberlit on my channel th-cam.com/video/2A8AqTlligo/w-d-xo.html. I also just posted an initial review of the firebox gen 2 th-cam.com/video/xLdCi15Lj6k/w-d-xo.html and I feel it is a much better design, much heavier and different in a few other aspects but overall a better stove in my opinion but they are different class folding stoves so to speak because of the weight and size differences. The main problem with the emberlit for me was the ventilation ports clogging on longer burns (you can see me clearing them with a stick in the video) (excuse the poor video quality of my earlier video) I found the emberlit did fine for smaller cooking for just me but I'm often with friends or my family and larger meals can be more difficult. The firebox has plenty of ventilation while still protecting the flame from the wind. It has no problems I've seen yet on longer burns either But, I've only had it for a little while. I'm not trying to channel promote either I promise I just happened to have videos on this particular subject this time!

    The Lixada wood stove is both much easier to setup and the bottom has holes, permitting a better air flow. And it's half the price of the Emberlit. The only thing it doesn't have is the cross for smaller pots but you can easily fabricate one or use two pieces of solid wire. You should definitely drill holes in that bottom.

  • @periloustimez
    @periloustimez 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes I agree with you. Putting a pot on top of the emberlit stove restricts air flow... big time!! Then you lose lots of heat. You have to really feed and watch this stove a lot. The Solo stove is better and much more efficient. You don't even have to blow air into the solo stove, with the emberlit is like taking care of a baby you have to constantly watch it. In conclusion the Emberlit is not all that great. Solo stove still wins.

    You are getting smoke because there are no vent holes in the bottom plate.

    Why do I feel like you made this video only a few feet from your home?

    I've seen your videos up on TH-cam for years. I've watched several of them over that span of time. I have to ask... what is the deal with calling your audience turtles? I don't get it.

    love this stove. though I typically will carry a small canister and inexpensive Pocket Rocket knock off as a backup for when you just can't be bothered in wet conditions. I rarely need it however the more comfortable I have gotten with managing my wood fuel for the Emberlite. thx for the vid.
