  • Wider version of the Lixada Wood gas stove. This model is wider and has an improved pot support. 3 oz lighter than the Lixada wood gas stove. IMO this stove is hybrid wood gas and twig stove. Boil time was 4.5 minutes on average for 12 oz of water.
    Stove. I bought this from eBay.

Secondly, I don’t know exactly why your reviews of camp stoves are SO satisfying. Maybe because I feel like I’m right there, almost can smell woodsmoke and bacon. The improved stability of the wider base is impressive. Another big advantage of the greater diameter accompanying“pot stand” is that when one has densely packed the burn chamber with the vertically oriented wood preload for a TLUD burn, it is so much easier to get a good ignition top fire going in that cavernous pot stand. Almost foolproof! Since, at 10oz, it is 4 to 5 oz lighter than all the other comparable sized wood gas stoves and, with a tightly packed burn chamber, will boil a half gallon of water without additional fuel, it’s therefore pretty much the only wood stove I take on the trail anymore. It doesn’t hurt that it costs less than $20.

    Yes, I agree with you, it is a hybrid of a gasification style stove and twig stove. The gasifier I have is more efficient at boiling water than the twig stoves. I have a version of this hybrid. I like it. Not as good at gasification but still decently better than the twig drive with a little more ease of use. But can cook food in it like a twig. Not as versatile as my fire box stove but still great one to have in my collection of stoves I keep for camping and ER kit in my car. And as mini bbq grill on my patio. Thanks for your review.

    The best fuel I have seen for these stoves, other than the extruded furnace wood pellets, was 2 inch rounds cut 2 inches thick. They last a long time once started. A 2 inch branch cut to the given length will last a long time. The "20 dollar" wood stoves have been upgraded with a collar And u can get a mesh circle with them now so u can use the small cups and still feed them without moving the cup/pan all the time. Time matches on...

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should check that out. The pot support is a negative for my older stove. That said it's a fantastic wood gas stove. Works really good with pellets, probably better than this one but have not tested that.

    • @dubiousjesse
      @dubiousjesse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you elaborate on the 2-inch rounds, please? Are you referring to the cotton rounds from the drug stores? And ignite them with a 2-inch branch?

    • @nelsonmitchell3241
      @nelsonmitchell3241 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dubiousjesse no just cut a 2 inch branch into short 2 inch chunks. Once you get some twigs boning well in the stove just drop a couple of those in for a sustained longer lasting fire. The small twigs will falsify the 2 inch rounds and maintain a nice fire while you cook. If it starts to go out just drop in another.

    Now my favorite stove. Loading the burn chamber with vertically stacked, 1/2 to 5/8 inch twigs or splits, lit from the top, the stove burns slowly at a steady, efficient rate with a focal flame form. Also loaded as described, that load can burn for 25 minutes. While there is some gasification going on, it is not a strict gassifier, which is not a bad thing, because almost pure gasification flame deposits a thick, hard, “wood tar” on the pot which is very difficult to remove. This stove’s deposits almost “wipe”off the pot with a SS scrubbing pad.” Lastly, the wide base incorporated in this new model, makes it quite stable.

  • @robertshirley1672
    @robertshirley1672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This new, wider Lixada stove, new at the time, was manufactured for only a short time. Too soon it was dropped from the Lixada manufacturing line and while still carrying the Lixada name was relegated to some crudely produced manufacturing resulting in rough stamping and inaccurate dimensions.
    I was able to score one of the originals and it is one of my two favorite wood stoves. The currently available copies will work pretty much as well with some owner modifications. These include sanding down the edges on the stampings.
    So, also, the four top bars, for instance, need to be slightly bent in an arc so that their ends point outwards. (Otherwise, they are too short for the diameter of the top of the pot support.).
    There are no other functional defects, just rough edges on the cutouts and some of the cutout stampings are shaped differently. Lastly, it is 3/8in shorter overall.
    The pics you will see on all available internet sources will look identical to the one here, but the stoves will all be different. Still, they are cheap, work well, (Top-down burns with the burn chamber filled with vertically stacked 3in rounds or splits are mandatory.) and it only weighs 10oz. Plus it will fit in my Evernew 1.3 Liter titanium pot.

      If you have never tried it, give the individual coffees that come in a tea bag a try. Much closer to brewed than the freeze dried powders. Maxwell House is one brand in the blue box. Walmart carries them. More $ per cup but 4x the flavor. And you can steep it as long as you want for a stronger brew. Each coffee bag is individually wrapped.

    Hi Kevin. Nice vid. I have the exact stove you have, although it is branded Canway. It has the same three legs. I really like it. I do like some of the changes on the newer Lixada. Large feeding port, much improved pot support(although extra pieces and easy to lose...forget, and you can use much thicker chunks of wood....longer, too. Much better design for feeding through that side port. I will say however, I saw no sign of gasification from the interior of the fire box in this video. Can you say that you saw any? Either way, this seems to be a better alternative to my Canway. Another great effort, thanks! Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

      Fire was shooting out the cup's ports so maybe some secondary combustion was taking place however IMO its not really a wood gas like the other one. The outer support is one wall and cup resting inside is sorta like another wall however it's not exactly a good double walled system. Again IMO. It does work really well but if a pure wood gas stove is needed the other one is a better option. Still for cooking with longer sticks I prefer this.

    In the last two months I’ve ordered stoves twice now in order to have spare parts if something happened to my original stove. But in both instances the stove received was an inferior attempt to make a cheap copy. The cut-outs were different in shape, and the overall measurements differed from the original. These changes resulted in the correctly made four-piece pot-grid not even fitting on top of the pot support. One of the two was ordered from Aliexpress, the other through Walmart. I returned the Walmart version but discarded the Aliexpress due to a way too protracted and expensive a process. I’ve ordered a third on EBay in one last attempt to duplicate the original but I’m not really hopeful. If any one has found a stove with all the cut-out shapes identical and with the stated measurements the same, I’d love to know the source. Ebay order won’t be in for another four weeks.

    The fuel should always be below the level if the gasifier holes in the inner cup, if not you get smoke and sooted pans.

    Looks like a very handy stove. I think you need to bring more bacon with you though. :)

    Bonjour Is it a good stove ?
    Better than single wall stove?

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does appear to have some secondary combustion (seen in the very end). It's a good stove. However there are many factors to stove performance so can't say if one is better than the other. Thanks for watching!

    Cool stove but too many parts. Greater chances of losing one part. I have not found a good light weight fry pan.

    I have a few of the first design that you showed. I simply place a wire mesh over it and I can place the smallest of cups in it.
    I have always wondered whether or not these are stable....
    Can you make a comparison video between the two.
    Also do check out my channel. Would appreciate it if you also share my videos.
    Thanks in advance,
