I had the 87 escort exp with 115 horsepower and that thing was so much fun to drive and i could definitely give the foxbodys a run for their money.. lol
My first car was an 87 GT also. 1.9 H.O. with the 5 speed was fun in high school. My dad and me put it back together after it caught fire on the previous owner. Always had a big burnt spot in the middle of the hood. 😂😂😂
I had an Escort like this - a 92GT. I really enjoyed it. It was super reliable and was a very tossable little car. At 150k miles (and -5 degrees outside) I tried to powershift 1-2 and grenaded the trans. It blew parts through the case. And pre-cell phones, so had to walk 1.5 miles home in the cold.

I myself definitely saw a lot of these growing up, and the teal ones. if you know you know. Dudes in the comments, ya'll would agree that this little escort launches as aggressive as say a R32 1k horsepower, and looks (the launch) very much like an Audi Quattro SWB, or like the S2 Avant. I was very taken back by this build. SO UNIQUE yet very familiar. Sheesh. What a build right guys?
Saw alot of those teal ones, that's what popped into my head as soon as I saw those wheels! I also saw a handful of birds in that pink, they were sharp looking.
My cousins actually doing a similar build with the same type of escort except with a Evo8 drivetrain. Dope to see someone else had a similar idea. But we're also going to do the Escort Cosworth body conversion
Great video! The Escort driver was such a good dude, blew his diff. and his personality and mood didn’t change. My girlfriend from high school into college had this exact car, a pink(or sunrise red, or whatever the driver called it) Escort GT. It was manual, and she was a great driver, her first vehicle was an S-10, stick, with a 4.3. I drove the car a bunch, and it was super sporty, handled good, and was quick back then in the early-mid 90’s. This video was very nostalgic. Brought back some great memories. Glad you decided to pick this guy/build to showcase. It was really fun to watch, but I do wish the guy was able to get into the 9’s. I’m subscribing. Keep up the great work.
My grandmother had a '96 Escort LX 4-door sedan from at least 2001 if not before up until around '08-'09 and it was the first car I learned to drive as a kid just driving around the yard, around the corner on back roads, and in empty parking lots. I love seeing builds like this or like a drift '95/'96 Chevy Beretta I saw on TH-cam since that was another car she owned when I got my license and I tried drifting it a few times
Pretty sick for an Escort. I've personally only seen 1 Escort in my life that was built. It was a 1984 Ford Escort EXP that was sectioned, tubbed out and had a 1000hp big block 454 under the hood. F**ken thing was sick AF to say the least. I worked for the guy who owned it, so I was able to admire it daily for almost 3yrs. The man had some gorgeous rides. He was in the process of rebuilding his 1970 Nova for the street. It was a old drag build he did in the 80s (I believe it was the 80s) called the Midnight Fantasy. It was all black and had a airbrush graveyard scene on the decklid that included characters like Frankenstein. It physically hurt me to be the one who stripped most of the paint off the Nova when the guy decided to rebuild it for the street.
Ha! I have recently been wondering about a K-swap for my '95 wagon if the 1.9L ever dies. That looks almost identical to a factory fitment outside of the slight clearance for the turbo. He did a great job on that car. I'm happy to see any 2nd gen Escort being appreciated! 👍I had a '95 Pony in the fleet in the same color at one point. 😂
I worked at a dealership when this gen escort came out. I used to wish Ford would put out a fast one. The Cayman greenish color and all black were my fave
I used to have a mint black on black 95 Escort GT I bought off an old man. He was the original owner and it only had 50k miles. Man I miss that car. It was such a blast!
This does escort looks oddly like the British ford sierra cosworth which was an AWD car factory and factory turbo charged with around 500hp out of the factory and only weighed about 1200kg and this was back in the late 80’s -early 90’s
Ford use to make these cars in Australia and Europe as Ford Lasers. They were turbo in-line 4s with AWD that shared parts with Mazda 323 AWDs he mentioned. Ford/Mazdas weak spot was the transfer case after so much HP.
That's a horse of a different color (pun intended). Seriously, neat project. Not a Ford guy, but I used to have an 88 Ford EXP and I thought several times about a Taurus SHO Yamaha V6 / 5-speed swap.
Making me moss my old 87 Escort Gt. That 1.9L was a beast. Stock HP was a huge lie. It made 190 to 205 but Ford lied to sell them said they made 91HP. I added a turbo and torn down the engine. Put a drop piston set with rollers with a bore of 30 over. I ended up pushing 630HP after. This was back in the 90s after High school. 5 speed as well. Leave harder then this 1. First 3 times it blew out the shafts until i got it dailed in.

@@starbattles1 Yeah , that's a tube framed RWD race car. There have been a few Probes since the 90s like that. Super cool but not what I want or could even afford to build. Even a couple of street RWD probes on Miata pans have been built. I want to build something more along the lines of "if Ford or Mazda built it" The KL motor is the Madza engine already used in the Probe. 200hp stock but can get to 300-400hp fairly reliably with a small turbo. The engine would still be transverse in the stock location but it would use Mazda 323 GTX / Familia AWD bits to fill in the blanks and make it AWD. The Probe/MX6 platform is very similar to the MX3/323/Familia. Kind of like a Mazda version of an AWD Talon/Eclipse.
Good luck with the GTX transmission they blowup if you look at them wrong. I had an escort with a GTX 1.8 turbo swap that ran 12s on drag radials back in the early 2000s. Was lots of fun.

Been following this build for awhile
2500 lbs with him in it !!! Sheesh, and he ain’t no small guy. That thing is insane.

I had an Escort ZX2 S/R back on the day. I'd love to get another and build it out now that I'm less poor.
