Have no interest in a new Ferrari or Lambo etc. I’d take one of these every day. Kimera are doing an Ev038 which it worth keeping an eye on too.

    I never understood how lucky I was at 17 when my mother bought me an 84 Audi 4000 quattro, it was my second car, My first being a $300 chevy that was giraffe yellow with black spots of rust reformer on it and was less reliable than a alcoholic step father in a horror film. Basically she wanted the car out of her driveway. We both loved the car, I miss both her and it. Was definitely the car that sealed my love for cars. Thank you mom!

    @ryanbaptiste249 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    What shocked me about driving the 037 Stradale back in the ‘80s, was just how usable it was. With that huge rear spoiler, it was awkward to reverse into parking spots and you had to be careful with high kerbs because the front bib was low but it was otherwise very drivable and surprisingly refined, with a supple ride. On open roads you could switch to beast mode and drive it hard and, even without reaching its limits it would still raise a smile. But you felt that you needed to be mindful of the fact that 037s were rare, even then - unlike the ubiquitous and seemingly bullet-proof Quattro, which could be thrown around without a second thought.

  • @rivenmotors7981
    @rivenmotors7981 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    Audi made a homologated Sport Quattro street version of the rally car. A much more high-strung tuned engine and shorter and smaller car than the Ur-Quattro. Wish you would have had that to help with a more direct comparison. But the 037 has always had the magic and why I have a Lancia Montecarlo/Scorpion that I'm resto-modding. Thanks for taking us around and letting us hear the machines!

    Many years ago I knew a man who was a diehard Lancia fan. He had a new car every few months. I always asked him what had happened to the old car, had he crashed it? He said no, but there were too many very expensive repairs to be done. He bought a different car each time in the hope of not having to spend a fortune on repairs, but the concept didn't work. After Lancia he had exactly the same problems with Maserati.
    A friend who is an automotive engineer once told me that the main problem with Lancia is the delicate engine. Due to the weight savings in the material, it is unstable under load and warps. This not only leads to high levels of wear, but also to leaky seals. This doesn't matter in racing, where a new engine is regularly installed at factory expense, but end customers don't get a free replacement engine.

    I got to admit that I was huge fan of vintage cars and homologation specials as well, allthough I´ve owned only "basic" models such as Mk1 Sierras, but more older I get the less I understand vintage car culture. Yes, older cars have less grip in general (due to suspension configurations at the time), which also means you lose more it predictably, but unlike most people think, modern or should I say cars younger than 20 years old, can be more snappy on the limit, mainly due better more grippy chassis solutions, but therefore more rewarding to drive. Obviuosly there are few things that are saint as drivers point of view, car had to be RWD and manual. This said as a happy owner of E90 325i😁

    Loved watching both being driven...80's cars ARE the best. ...but shouldn't the 037 have been compared to the Sport quattro rather than the UR quattro? Both homologation in very limited numbers.

    The 037 Stradale looks like a supercar. The Quattro looks like your neighbours VW Sirocco hatchback from the same time.
    MId Engine cars have something no other layout of car can come close to. The engine noise from behind your ears counts for so much emotion.
    Luv and Peace.

    That Audi is a stunning looking vehicle…. Couldn’t agree more with the comments on the analogue dials though!

    Love a Quattro but it's hard to look past the 037. That being said my favourite Lancia of all time has to go to the Delta S4. What a car!

    I own a Urquattro and you can have Bluetooth and all that stuff in style with a Blaupunkt Hamburg SQM 23 DAB and great Sound in combination with a little Pioneer TS-WX010A under the seat. Love the 037 Stradale - one of the most beautiful cars of all time.

    Ahhhh 80's Homologation and derived cars, Rally and GT racing brought us some incredible cars that are still comfortable on modern roads especially the German marques :-)

    Choosing between an ur quattro or a delta Evo would be THE hardest automotive decision going for me. I think I'd have to have both!!

    It's still amazes me that the 037 was able to beat the Quattro with rwd and nearly 2 times less power

      @@andgate2000 I'm talking about the world rally championship in 1983. Lancia kicked Audis butt with this car on dirt tracks, and Lancia didn't even show up to multiple races because they literally didn't feel like it, and still won.

      A tab on the drive gear coming from the gearbox snapped recently. Might be weldable - but parts are hard to find. Speedo works fine otherwise.

      @jreacock No problems there, honestly. I drive my datsun just fine without a tach, I assume you're used to the sound of it well enough to know when to shift.
