The guys band is called Years and Years, he is called Olly Alexander and the reason they did this song is because, there was a UK series called 'its a sin'. He also starred in it because he's also an actor. The series was really good. It's about when AIDS started. He's not a new artist.

I think that there will likely be many people in a similar boat.
Firstly Years and Years has been making music since 2010 and has had some massive hits in the uk so I wouldn’t call him a upcoming artist at all. The song was originally released in 1987 by the pet shop boys so it’s not a new song. Olly was the lead role in the uk series it’s a sin which inspired Elton John to recreate this and open up more on his younger life. Considering all proceeds of the song are going to the Elton John foundation I would assume Elton fully knew what the performance was going to be like. Maybe research first. You wouldn’t be moaning if it was a woman up there with Elton doing that.

When is it a legit coming-out situation, or when is it a disingenuous re-branding? Cuz from what I found, he’s been more tame as an artist for years. It’s always hard to trust this kinda stuff. The fact is, we’ll never know. There is a lot of capping in q activism. There is no way a new artist with a spot this big could be represented as a strayt male, not in Pop music. It’s impossible. Do some research - this is quasi 'ad' for the HBO show 'It's A Sin' about the AIDS epidemic in the 80s - and the song is originally by Pet Shop Boys one of the most awarded and celebrated duos of all time in music. Oh, plus Elton John has worked with the Pet Shop Boys on numerous occasions, recording and performing together.

Olly Alexander reminds me a wee bit of Freddie because the late Queen vocalist often saw himself as a performer rather than just a singer.
From what I can see from this live performance that's exactly what Olly is trying to do. Also, one more piece of information for Mr loudmouth with his bottle of JD, Sir Elton John was best friends with Freddie Mercury.
I agree with you about the alcoholism. However - I live in America & Years and Years are not known here; Olly rarely does US interviews during his promo tours (which isn't his fault, although his management is the problem). I think Olly should be as big as a Freddie Mercury (here in the States), but America tends to blackball LGBT artists; America is more homophobic than people want to admit. Europe is definitely better than America (and I'm American saying that).

Olly Alexandra is a brilliant singer and artist. He knows how to express himself and it’s all a little camp but @ the end of the day it will be the choreographer who chooses his moves. The more dramatic the show the more people talk about it! Obviously did the trick judging by the comments on here.
