My wife and I just celebrated our second Anniversary in Monterey last year and this year in Carmel. We would be over the moon if we can move to this area.We fill so relaxed and calm every time we spend a day or two here.People are nice and approachable. We attract who we are .Love Attracts love, lower vibration attracts lower vibration. We love the beaches here and the food and the hotels, restaurants and the wharf, list goes on and on.

Santa Cruz is just shite as well. They missed the silicon valley money boat. The first thing you see when you drive into SC on Ocean street are bums. The nicest building on Ocean street is a weed dispensary. This is what happens when you vote too liberal. Then the old hippies and blue collar gens are upset that SC is changing. I encourage people to look at what Santa Barbara has done in the last 20 years of gentrification and you will see it is the best city on the west coast. They embrace tourism. Remember that tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Be nice to tourist they bring money into your city.

@@kickingitwithkohjay.9099 A lot of California is like that. Bums dont want to live where it freezes in the wintertime and hot as hell in the summer. Santa Cruz is a perfect bum location.

@@kickingitwithkohjay.9099 - What you're saying for Santa Cruz proper may be true but not so of the nearby areas. Many of the surrounding communities as you head east of SCruz down Hwy 1 (or Soquel Dr.) have exploded in development and money in the last 30+ years, much of it from Silicon Valley moving over the hill. A lot of wealthy (really wealthy industry or tech titans that don't want people to know they've bought there) have bought in and around the hills east of Santa Cruz, going north off of Soquel Dr. It's been a pretty steady increase over the years of money coming in and increased development. If you'd driven the commute from 17 to 1 over the years, you would know firsthand how traffic went from very sparse in the late '80s even during rush hour to jam packed during the rush hour now. Some of those people are going to Watsonville but many are not. They've been working on expanding the highway lanes on 1 east of Santa Cruz for some time now because it's gotten so bad.
I recall back in the late '80s when looking across a valley from our acreage in the hills, you would see nary a night light. Now, the night time view is dotted with numerous driveway/ front door night lights. Some communities out there are projected to become the next Atherton or Menlo Park. The gentrification has been happening all around Santa Cruz for several decades. It's just not well publicized as many of the buyers are well heeled and well known and prioritize discretion.

I lived there for 10 years after 3 years of the Army at Ft. Ord. The people that live there have to deal with a lot of traffic, rude visitors, and there is a lot of snobbery. Most people that actually live in Monterey are wealthy, and that comes with the feeling that they are better than you. I've seen it on both sides. Things to do? After 9 pm the only thing that's open is bars which can get you in lots of trouble. Cops are protective of the owners there. And if you think they wont arrest you then you had better think again.

Another great walking tour video. I've done daily walks along some of what I saw in this video, like around El Estero Park and along Alvarado... I lived just 3 blocks up the hill toward the military facility... that would make a good video in the future... I lived in the apt. complex at 501 Ocean ave... there are a lot of apartment buildings up in that area... perhaps a short walk around those communities?? I frequented all the coffee places within walking distance and sometimes even got coffee in Pacific Grove along that route.

I can see why this person is saying these things. I was just there last week, and I will say the people watching is very good. It's not the locals, its the tourist that are a bit odd to watch. Most of them over weight , blue hair, nose hoops, and probably anti-republican. Monterey attracts that crowd. I lived in Santa Barbara for years and the level of service is way better than any restaurant I have attended in Monterey. It is however much better than the restaurant oasis of Santa Cruz. With the way the economy is going, I don't see restaurants surviving, especially with the prices of food, and the cost to employ people. I would say its a great day trip, and great aquarium, a few good restaurants, nice place to live if you are retired and have money. Our saying in SB was, a town for the "newly wed and the nearly dead". Now its "a place where old people visit their parents". I.E they are waiting for their inheritance.

If Monterey sucks so much, then why do so many Hollywood celebrities love coming or visiting here?
Taylor Swift, her boyfriend, Bradley Cooper & his girlfriend Gigi Hadid was recently spotted here having lunch or dinner all together at a French Restaurant in Carmel.
Keanu Reeves was spotted at a Starbucks somewhere in Monterey Bay area a few months ago.
Brad Pitt owns a mansion on a cliff in Carmel. But I don’t know if he still owns it or sold it.
Clint Eastwood has been living in Carmel for over a decade I think. He owns an estate.
Many Hollywood movie script writers live in or around Monterey, Carmel or Pebble Beach because they say they find it relaxing to live here, & it helps them with their script writing.

I was a tour guide in CA in the 90s and we would pass through Monterey on the way to LA. It was good for a stop at the aquarium and Cannery Row. that's about it. Might also be good if you're a golfer or a boater. Otherwise it's not a big destination for visitors compared to other destinations nearby like San Francisco, Napa Valley, Redwoods, Yosemite, etc. That's actually a plus for living there in my book.

We just took our kids, we are from a small town in Northern California. I was surprised to see the amount of rude people, no one says hello or excuse me. They are rude and snobby, maybe they want that so people don't go back, we won't be. One beach we went to was nasty, the water along the shore had green bloom. Two beaches we did see had dead seals and a dead walrus and it smells so bad we couldn't enjoy the rest of the beach the kids wanted to see. There may not be homelessness in Carmel because there is a huge amount Monterey. There was a homeless man beating his head at the Warf, smelled packed and Candy store, overpriced! Food sucked, felt like a Gorden Ramsey moment.
