He is absolutely wrong about the temps getting as hot as 90’s in the summer! WRONG! You may get one day above 90 in Salinas in an odd year. There has been a couple years where there was a heat wave. People suffer the bc no one has air conditioning! lol… you don’t need it!

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think we should continue voting for development in Monterey County. That’s just going to add to more population, traffic, expensive living and urban problems. What makes this place so special out of all of California is the amount of wildlife and conservation efforts that have been put into keeping this place as it is.

My dad was a cook at the Pub for over 25 years, he started as a teenager there. A Chinese man named Willy Wong taught him everything he knew about food. He was raised in Alisal, as was I. He worked there until 1996 when we relocated out of state. Salinas will always be my home ❤

I live in Cupertino and I regularly book a place in Pajaro Dunes for the weekend. I disagree with you about Watsonville not having amenities - at least in terms of restaurant options. Sushi Garden in Overlook center is, in my opinion, is the best I've ever had. That includes San Francisco and all of the bay area. Only restaurant that comes close is when I visited Japan. Of course, Mexican food is 2nd to none - from low price Tamale factory to high end Jalisco. I love running on Sunset beach and going for a walk on the levy by the adult village. It's one of my favorite places. Having said that, I agree that there isn't much of a night life and tourist attraction. For that, Santa Cruz and Monterey is the better option.

I have lived here in the Monterey area for the last 10 years. I find in general people are kind and friendly. Drivers are polite despite many not following the rules: Stop signs and Red lights often are ignored. Many international residents and visitors make for a diverse community. I work with the unsheltered and have rarely encountered more grateful and polite people anywhere. We Love Monterey so much to do here 🐋🐬🐙🦞

I was born and raised in Monterey. I moved several years ago and will never go back to that godforsaken state. Outsiders destroyed the place and made it unaffordable. I hardly recognize it from when I was a child. It's terribly sad, but I learned an important lesson: never let Silicon Valley or their stuck up employees move into your town. They will "enlighten" it and destroy it within a decade to build their ridiculous looking McMansions. You want to move to this place? Go ahead -- just know that you will be a part of what is ruining it. Monterey used to be a charming family town full of butterflies and wonderful history. Now, it is nothing but a museum for Instagram selfies and a place for condescending liberals to hide from their own policies.

I’ve lived here (Pacific Grove) for 67 years, born and raised. The Monterey area is beautiful, and, like everywhere else, the people are varied in temperament, attitude, and perspective…and physical attractiveness. 😂 My heart goes out to the person who wrote the message. I believe it’s a reflection of his internal struggles. On the other hand, generally speaking, tourists are welcome here only by people who make money off them. The residents don’t appreciate aggressive drivers clogging our roads, many with attitudes who think they can do or say what they please because they paid a fat fee to stay at a fancy hotel. In addition, too many “tourists” have decided to stay, paying exorbitant fees and raising housing prices. Many of these are purchasing second or third homes here, which has caused housing costs to skyrocket…resulting in locals being locked out of the market.

You might want to clarify that US highway 101 does NOT go through the Monterey Peninsula. I live about 200 yards from California highway 1, near where it starts the climb over the hill to Carmel. If one wants to get to highway 101, it's a good 30-minute drive.

The property taxes alone on 3M in Carmel are $30,000 a year. Coastal communities have become piggy banks for the rich as the house sits empty and the rest of us can dream to rent.

My father was born in Carmel more than 100 years ago. He kept a sailboat in Whalers Cove. When he and my mother were married, lower middle income folks could afford to buy property in Carmel. Not so much anymore.... Alas, the town has turned into a high-end tourist trap and I find it really depressing whenever for any reason I have to go over there. Art galleries and designer shops out the wazoo. No more "real people" shops.
