Just a beautiful tune. It's a crime she is not the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Amazing voice (4 octave range) , writes her own songs, plays multiple instruments (10+), created her own style and followed no one. Girl is off the charts.
Another great Cyndi Lauper is "True Colors." Powerful song. However, we chose it as our high school Homecoming theme. Every class and club created a float for a mini-parade down the city's "main street." Every float had to have a song with a color in it. I remember "Little Pink Houses" by John Cougar Mellancamp, "Little Red Corvette" by Prince, "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix, and our (seniors!) did "Purple People Eater" by Sheb Wooley. Lots more. We won! Had to make a UFO, and Alien with one eye and one horn, and do a dance routine in costume. If you want more Cyndi, check out "True Colors" as it is still very relevant to today's society; and for fun, maybe around Halloween, check out "Purple People Eater."
Cindi Lauper is an underrated gem. She embodies the 80's, but still transcends through all eras flawlessly. She didn't/doesn’t get the credit the way she deserves. And she was a way better choice in "We Are The World" than Madonna would have been.
I watched her live concert videos her on TH-cam and her singing blew me away. She’s a better singer than I ever imagined. The hit songs don’t really show her vocal talents.
As a teenager I definitely wouldn't say she's underrated, at least where I'm from she's one of the best known 80s singers and one of the only female 80s singers that anyone ever listens to. For me personally she feels overrated but where I'm from she's like always on the radio so I'm personally a little worn out from her.
Because she comes off kinda quirky , many people aren't aware of just how good a singer Cyndi Lauper is. When Obama was president he had a lot of concerts at the Kennedy Center. In one of those concerts Cyndi performed some bluesier songs and just slayed it. Brought the crowd to their feet. A much better singer than she gets credit for , sometimes her talent is overshadowed by her personality & image.
I grew up in the 80’s and she was big part of that era as most people are saying a very underrated artist She proved, in we are the world that she can sing with the best of them
Not taking anything away from Cyndi but perhaps you’d give Blessid Union of Souls a listen. They have many awesome songs but “Oh Virginia” is amongst my favorites.
True Colours is another real emotional song with a great message by her. I also love the video. Cindy is amazing and even seeing her in interviewed in the early 80s was so entertaining. she was soooo fun and adorable and hilarious
Cyndi was one of my guilty pleasures when I was a teen in the early 80s in England....generally listening to ACDC, Iron Maiden, etc. I had to keep it a secret from my friends. I always liked her, and finally got to see her live in Dallas about 10 yrs ago. She is just as fun live and a great entertainer as you would expect. I no longer hide the fact that I LOVE Cyndi's music!!!!
That was me too. I was a huge Rock and Metal fan and really didn't care much for the pop music at the time however Cyndi Lauper and Culture Club were always in my collection along with 200 other albums like Metallica, Slayer and Iron Maiden. I have actually went back and discovered how much of a music snob I was in the day. Loving much of the 80s music now. Certainly way better than most of the complete garbage that pollutes the mainstream today. There is a whole bunch of fantastic music around these days though it's just overshadowed by the crap being sold and pushed by the media and music industry and also people's short ass attention spans.
@@kennethbartlett4302 With you! I also came around to bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, New Order, Love & Rockets, etc....but it took way too long! :) Go Music! It's all good!!!!
Timeless hit that became #1 on the USA charts in 1984. If you was feeling this song, then you must react to a memorable performance of this song on the Patti LaBelle show in 1985, Patti LaBelle & Cyndi Lauper performing this song ❤❤❤❤ awesome. Another great song by Cyndi....True Colors (1986) ❤ music video.
Cyndi has perfect pitch and a 4-octave vocal range Her first band was blue angel (this time period she looked just like she does as a blonde in this video) She ALSO sang the theme to PeeWees Playhouse under the name 'Ellen shaw"
Not only that, but that was her real life boyfriend at the time. Also in the video was her real life brother sitting in the booth behind her in the diner. And the cook at the diner was the wrestler/manager Captain Lou Albano who played her father in the 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' music video.
The woman who appears with her in this and Girls Just Want to Have Fun was her real mother. The man behind the counter also was in Girls...was Captain Lou Albano.
i saw her before she made it big.she was the singer in a local band called Flyer.i knew she was great doing covers of jeff airplane, stones and others at our local bar, pastime pub
I love this song so much, her whole first album is iconic and still holds up 100%. Also the guy singing backup on the chorus is Rob Hyman of the Hooters, he and Cyndi co-wrote this song. Check out the Hooters songs "All You Zombies" and "And We Danced."
This track proved that Cyndi is more than just fun pop songs, she’s a serious writer with brilliant sensitivity and sentiment. For similar heart-stoppers😎 • Ain’t It a Shame -B52s • Shine -Charles & Eddie • This Must Be the Place -Talking Heads
This woman has some pipes. Check her mesmerizing video out performing her rendition of At Last (The video with 3.5 million views with her wearing a formal dress with gloves, 14 years ago). She is currently on tour. Great reaction, TY.
This original performance is legendary, but you really need to also hear Eva Cassidy's cover of it, live at Blues Alley. Eva owns everything she covers. This one, she shares.
that is the dude in the video is whos voice you hear in the chorus. He was the lead singer of a band called the Hooters and they use to open for her. Her and him got romantic quick and by the sound of this song, I would think he helped her write it because you can hear sounds of his old band in the song. If I am not mistaken, she just absorbed them as her band on tour.
have gotten to hear her perform live 2x. The 'She's so Unusual" tour was an amazing experience. She has talked about how the lyrics were inspired by a clock a then-ex gave her and kept her up at night.
Here's a new artist to check out, if interested. "Melody Gardot - Baby I'm A Fool (Official Video)" (by the channel: Melody Gardot) --This song was written and composed by American jazz singer/songwriter Melody Gardot. It is from her second-full length album called "My One and Only Thrill." It's a beautiful jazz composition that captures the essence of two coquettish people who doesn't want to admit they are in love with one another. If you enjoy jazz, you should really enjoy this lovely tune. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you Shon. Thanks for sharing. peace out~
My Friend, I have watched probably a couple hundred reactors over the last couple of years and you are, by far, the most thoughtful , sincere and genuine of all of them. I appreciate you for that. 😊😊😊
There is a Sarah Jessica Parker and that chick from Mad Love/Twister called "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" from 80s when they were young and this song was the theme song of course!
There's a difference between hearing a song and hearing art. And with the advent of music videos in the 80s Cyndi Lauper did what it takes to move her music to art. BTW I saw her in concert in the early 2000s at an arena where she ran up the steps from the ground level to the second level, live mic in hand, and she didn't miss a breath of her song.
I Drove All Night (later covered by Celine Dion) is worth a listen. From her first album -- She Bop and Money Changes Everything were also hits. True Colors is another classic.
I don't think I ever really had a "hero", but growing up in the 80s, Cyndi was closer than anyone else. The messages I got from her and her music are ones that still ring true to this day, and that isn't the case with most artists. Either they didn't age well for the times, or they're nice, but only for kids, or you realize later that you were singing the raunchiest music in the world as an 8 year old. LOL
Great Choice! Since June is PRIDE month, and Cyndi is one of our best Advocates.👌 Check out "True Colors" one of our great anthems in the LGBTQ+ community.😂 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary😊 great reaction as usual 😊 another fun Cyndi song "She Bop"😅
This is one of the best damn songs of my lifetime, I had this cassette when I was in elementary school! But the video is always what KILLS me. On its own the song may not make me cry *every* time, but the video does. I don't know what it is about it.
Please be the first to check out the band Spooky Tooth - the album is called "The Mirror". Please start with a back to back connected songs "I'm Alive and The Mirror". Cheers from Canada!!!!
Check out Steve Forbert (He's Cyndi's boyfriend at the end of the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun video in her bedroom) Check out any of his songs, he's still touring and doing great, putting out new music. First song to check out is "Romeo's Tune"
Shon.. You da man! POWERFUL REACTION REQUEST HERE! DONT LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME Live duet George Michael and Elton John!! I wouldn't steer you wrong. You the most genuine reactor out there!
“She Bop” (look up the meaning first 😂) then “True Colors”. Then more Cyndi please! True Colors may be her (arguably) best song but to keep mixing it up between up tempo and slower songs, go this route. ❤

I totally agree

Facts!!!
She was my vibe in the 80s, and she’s still beautiful 💕 I have always had a crush on her 🔥
Well said! She's like a Dolly Parton in character, direct but not rude. Liked by everyone. Like a clean Madonna or naughty Julie Andrews.
I watched her live concert videos her on TH-cam and her singing blew me away. She’s a better singer than I ever imagined. The hit songs don’t really show her vocal talents.

Her take on the Roy Orbison hit 'I Drove all Night' is spectacular. She is such a treasure.
I grew up in the 80’s and she was big part of that era as most people are saying a very underrated artist She proved, in we are the world that she can sing with the best of them
Now you HAVE TO react to "True Colors" next. It's a beautiful love song
One of my favorite artists. I love her voice & her freedom to just be herself.
Not taking anything away from Cyndi but perhaps you’d give Blessid Union of Souls a listen. They have many awesome songs but “Oh Virginia” is amongst my favorites.
Cyndi has a unique and beautiful voice. Yes, she has a comedic side, but she can also be truly profound and haunting as she is here.
True Colours is another real emotional song with a great message by her. I also love the video. Cindy is amazing and even seeing her in interviewed in the early 80s was so entertaining. she was soooo fun and adorable and hilarious
She's in 70s now and still wild and crazy and out there...LOOK HER UP!
Probably my favorite tune of hers

True Colors is another great song by Cyndi and was played and covered a lot back in the day.
Cindi is an American original, just so much heart and soul, great reaction!

There is indeed a dude singing background vocals. It's Rob Hyman who co-wrote the song with Cyndi.
Check out 'She Bop' next.

This song is so good because the words are poetry and her voice carries
deep emotion, it contrasts so beautifully with the goofball video.

This song was a typical 80’s bf/ gf song. Brings back so many memories …❤️🤘🏼
On the series Bones, she sings At Last, so beautiful ❤
Her version of I Drove All Night is first class
best version IMO
You’re gonna LOVE “True Colors”
This original performance is legendary, but you really need to also hear Eva Cassidy's cover of it, live at Blues Alley. Eva owns everything she covers. This one, she shares.
In case you're interested, the movie she's watching at the beginning is called "The Garden of Allah" from 1936.
Lou Albano a professional wrestler is also in this video.
“Good Enough” from The Goonies! Such a good one. 😁
Nice pick SHON. Def takes me back. Love Cyndi. And im a punk/metal guy. 🏴☠️☘️
"I'M GONNA BE STRONG" is a Cyndi Lauper song to react to. Her voice is so Amazing!!
Love Cyndi Lauper...such a creative talent. So compelling and emotionally in tune with the most important feelings in life. Great artist
