Going back to this album after these years and knowing what to expect has changed my opinion. Yes it's not a 'Metallica' album but the raw emotion and feel is unique. Maybe I'm just getting old but there is a new found appreciation for this album.
Met Lou Reed in Blairstown New Jersey back in the 80's a few times when taking the dogs for a walk up towards the Water Gap. He we as riding a Harley from Tramontin Motors. Cool dude.
I greatly admire the fact that Metallica tried so many things! They did what they wanted to do, wheather the fans liked it or not. I think that is why they are still at the top!
I love the album Lulu. It was great work. Many people never listened to the album and nevertheless went on saying bad things about a album that they didn't listen. Shame. It is a great, great album.
I love that album... And I'm sad that a lot of rock/metal fans didn't understand that album... They will understand it in the future.... Maybe.... 🎸💪💪❤️
I hated Lou Reed for making LuLu for a while (I was a freshmen in HS) but as I got older I actually love Lou Reed’s solo stuff, & his Velvet Underground songs are great as well.
Totally agree! I dig it, I get it! It's NOT Metallica! They're simply the "backing band " for Lou Reed's idea. Too many people approached it as a Metallica album, which it never was intended to be.
METALLICA RULES SINCE 1981!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What gets me is that people automatically assume that those who disliked that album were inflexible, close minded metal fans... Well, my musical interests are pretty diverse, and I found it very hard to sit through. Many friends of mine who listen to everything under the sun, from rap to classical to metal, think the album was abysmal. I won't go so far as to say that Lulu was objectively bad, but I can tell you that while its poor reception would have been partially influenced by the fact that many metal fans listened to it, it was far from being the only reason why it completely failed. You certainly couldn't pay me the price of the album to sit through that shit.
"No guitar solos" "No wah pedal" ...and THAT, my friends, is how you know Metallica had no business collaborating with Lou. Not talking trash about either of them, but c'mon man. If you don't like guitar solos, why the hell would you team up with a band that is (to some degree) known for their solos? That'd be like teaming up with Lamb of God and saying "no screaming vocals".
Yeh, It WAS a kinda strange album(s), But I Liked it 4That. Don't want to hear it EVERYDAY - But From TIME to TIME - It Gets Put On. Kinda like a Zappa/Beefheat Combined combined craziness. I Am HAPPY that it HAPPENED! If Lou Liked Your warm-up Jam as Much as You Say, That is actually a TRUE COMPLEMET! For Metallica & Lou WANTING 2DO it - I Think It Made EVERYONE There a Better ARTIST - as it WAS - SO Wonderfully DIFFERENT & EXPERIMENTAL. I gotta say I Like It - BECAUSE of those reasons - Not DESPITE them! I CAN Understand that It's Not 4Everbody (More so than ALOT of other Albums) & ALOT of people Thought it would B Diffenent (Including MYSELF!) - More Rock & Rollish, But I Still LIKE it & SOMETIMES It's Just Feels GOOD 2Listen to!
I cant believe these guys still meet up with each other with all the bickering and fussing they've done with each other. Kirk is the only one who just tries to keep the peace.
Ive never gotten Lou Reed...I guess he’s just too avant garde for my tastes, and I REALLY didn’t get him with Metallica. A noble experiment, but a horrible failure. There are so many other old rockers who would have been a better fit...
I've tried giving Lulu an honest chance, I really have. More than once, I've tried to listen through the entire album. But unfortunately, I can't take more than maybe three or four tracks. I'm glad some people like it, but sadly I have to agree with the majority: I think it's crap...
Every band has the right to do what they feel, but don't be surprised if you lose trust from your fans, Lars, just as exactly like you already have, because in my opinion, messing with people's perception is not the brightest idea, unless it's a decent vision that you know people will like! Lars has the potential to do so much better than possibly any of us could imagine, and he and the band has barely tapped into the band's full potential. I think Metallica have forgotten how powerful that band name truly is, and how they could stand out a million times better than what they are right now! But, of course... "No one's going to sit down and tell me what Metallica is supposed to be about and how it's supposed to be!" - Lars Ulrich. __________________ Yeah, sure, Lars! 😏😒

No wah pedals ! Kirk must be dying
He was on suicide watch throughout the recording
It's like no wah no Kirk, brilliant though , Kirk was funny
Cool to hear Kirk with bit deeper voice
Looks like someone went through puberty during quarantine lol.
He sounds a bit nasal. Just wondering if he was fighting something off. Love everything of him!
Bowie loved the Lulu album. Therefore it’s cool.
1:56 Hetfield laughs at joke and air strums the guitar
He's itching to thrash out.
And? Ever held a guitar? You strum.
This is a factual statement.
nice catch. I guess playing guitar makes him happy
Lou Reed is fabulous... Not sure it worked with Metallica - but he is super cool.
Agreed
Lou Reed is as good a musician, as the quality of his ‘voice’
Going back to this album after these years and knowing what to expect has changed my opinion.
Yes it's not a 'Metallica' album but the raw emotion and feel is unique. Maybe I'm just getting old but there is a new found appreciation for this album.
I agree. After hearing all the hate a few years ago, I had to listen to it. I was shocked at how much I loved it. Completely insane record.
0:23 James and Lars chilling with an old Jason from the future
lmao 😂
Met Lou Reed in Blairstown New Jersey back in the 80's a few times when taking the dogs for a walk up towards the Water Gap. He we as riding a Harley from Tramontin Motors. Cool dude.
"I AM THE TABLE!!" Is my favourite moment of any Botchamania video
I dig Lulu. Junior Dad is a fantastic track.
I agree.
I like Junior Dad as well, not really much else on that album.
not the biggest fan of Lulu but Junior Dad is really something
I greatly admire the fact that Metallica tried so many things! They did what they wanted to do, wheather the fans liked it or not. I think that is why they are still at the top!
Release the whole thing I can’t wait on anymore pieces of what y’all talked about
I am the table best part of Lulu album LOL
I AM THE TABLE I AMMM
thats awesome, i love this stories
I love the album Lulu. It was great work. Many people never listened to the album and nevertheless went on saying bad things about a album that they didn't listen. Shame. It is a great, great album.
Finally something interesting. Love this story
Your the best Howard! You too Robin! Wow Metallica! Keep on keeping on brothers 🤘
I love that album... And I'm sad that a lot of rock/metal fans didn't understand that album... They will understand it in the future.... Maybe.... 🎸💪💪❤️
Nah it was shite.
what pretentious bullshit, the album was bad
That album caused psycological problems to tables worldwide.
botchamania
That picture of them with Lou Reed is awesome and I just noticed he looks like an old Jason Newsted its nuts I cant believe it lmao.
I hated Lou Reed for making LuLu for a while (I was a freshmen in HS) but as I got older I actually love Lou Reed’s solo stuff, & his Velvet Underground songs are great as well.
Honestly, the album had potential to be legendary in a good way, it just had a misguided execution. I'd still say the album is overhated.
Totally agree!
I dig it, I get it!
It's NOT Metallica!
They're simply the "backing band " for Lou Reed's idea.
Too many people approached it as a Metallica album, which it never was intended to be.
It's an interesting experiment. I admire Lou Reed and Metallica for doing it.
Such a cool interview this one!!!
"No wah pedal." Lou Reed saying to Kirk what no one else had the courage to say.😅
This is why Metallica is so bad ass. They really don't give a fuck what we want - they make the stuff they want.
Lou is a legend. Velvet Underground. Check out the albums, simps
Lou Reed had two of the best guitar soloists of all time on his rock and roll animal album. Maybe he figured he'd done that?
RIP LOU✌
Metallica remembers.
We want to forget.
I think it's brilliant!
Say what you will but Metallica sounds amazing on Lulu. If you hate Lou Reed I can understand not liking it but as a Metallica fan it's a good album.
Lu Lu is some of Metallica's best work.
metallica will always be cool. i didn’t even know they wrote songs with lou reed.

"Metallica remembers writing songs with Lou Reed."
At least *someone* does.
Everybody else has been trying to pretend it didn't happen.
James holding Lamb of god guitar That's cool
"No guitar solos" "No wah pedal"
...and THAT, my friends, is how you know Metallica had no business collaborating with Lou.

That'd be like teaming up with Lamb of God and saying "no screaming vocals".
maybe someday we will have pleasure to see film about creating lulu
The mistake was putting the Metallica name on it ... should have just called the band Lulu
I wish they would of redid some Velvet underground songs instead
Lou Reed is a legend
lmao poor kirk even didn't get an answer for the guitar solo
NO GUITAR SOLOS?!
HMMMM... INTERESTING!!!!!
EVEN THOUGH, I STILL LOVE JUNIOR DAD
I always thought Lou would have been an awesome guest
Iggy pop and Metallica should do a song
I AM THE TABLEEEE
God damn I can’t find the complete show so I can watch the whole fucking thing with out having to find the next section lol
I can't believe Lou told Kirk no about Wah
It was fucking poetry! Love that album!
Kirk loves a guitar solo. We all know this.
I thought that pic was Jason😃

The titling was wrong but nothing wrong at all with all those legends recording together.
Lou had Mick Ronson play on transformer who almost definitely used a cocked wah. So loop hole?
I cant believe these guys still meet up with each other with all the bickering and fussing they've done with each other. Kirk is the only one who just tries to keep the peace.

F@@king hilarious. I love Kirk 🤘❤️🎸
Bill O'Reilly here, involuntary vietnam flashback premature ejaculation

Lou Reed and Metallica are both legends but the album is terrible. I AM THE TABLE like wut? 😂😂
No one knows what it means but it's provocative.
The whole Lulu fiasco reeked of Lars.
The Balls on that guy to tell fcking Kirk Lee Hammett not to use Wah...haha crazy
The Table album.
i did not listen to this album after few songs then when i heard "I AM THE TABLE" i thought that guy sounds just like james

Anyone else think Lou reed looks like a much older Jason newstead in the thumbnail 😂
Did Robert get a Haircut?
From the thumbnail I thought jason was back 🙃
Lulu definitely didn’t deserve the degree of hate that it got. It has some good songs & I liked the overall vibe & energy of that album
It was about time someone told Kirk to leave the fucking wah pedal alone.
These 3 mins of them talking about it is better then that whole album
That Release was HIDEOUS
There should be laws enacted to ban the sale of Wah pedals to Kirk Hammett and make it a felony for him to use one. It's the only way.
Lulu was fucking great tbh.

And the story about Lou when he wanna kicks his ass literally and Lars escape running around the street !
Is that a cardboard cut out of Rob?
...but they shouldn't let Lou sing on their album !!!! I say that as a VU fan.
I surely can't be the only who liked the collaboration with Lou Reed.
Hit like if you do so we can tell the world we exist.
James is a table
OK. WTF? 0:23 He looks like an older Jason ffs
After all, this album is good 👍
Lars grew sideburns for the first time in his life... and quit toothpicks? Weird!
Lulu is great, and better for pissing you off.
Insert unoriginal I AM THE TABLE joke
No wah no guitar solos
Poor Kirk
Best Metallica album ;v
👆✌
More Cowbell
But think about the meme that record has created
"I mean, who's better then Lou Reed".....well John Cale tbh
