For the actual in-game mechanic, I think that a tunnel mining base builder would be a great tool. Even something like a ROC attachment that could excavate stone blocks and tractor beam them into place to create a stone fortress, which you then buy and install electronics into. So much potential for player bases and I can't wait until that is in game ... some time next century, I expect.
I appreciate all the work you put into that. CIG should be taking notes. Base building will be the primary focus of my small ORG so imagining how it might be accomplished is inspiring. Some day the dream will be realized.
The way you animated the Pioneer looks very good! Is this your own idea or did you visualize CIGs ideas of how the Pioneer works? Either way, nice animations!
I don't know. This method of building seems too similar to a lot of other games. I think it would have been interesting to make it a much longer process to build a base. maybe having a multi-player experience, donating resources, and having game loops requiring cargo transport to the site, npc construction personnel, possible pirate raids to defend from, ect. I realize it's nowhere near a finished concept, but It still feels like it'll be kind of bland when implemented.
Interestingly enough, the Pioneer and its building mechanics may be released sooner than we think. According to the current roadmap under the massive list of deliverables, they are working on the tools necessary for the placement of modular structures on the surfaces of planets and moons. It’s called “RaStar” and it will/is being used to build the colonial outposts seen in the Pyro system. CIG has apparently been working on this since WAAAY back in Q1 of 2021 and is scheduled to finish sometime around Q3 of 2022. They say that later implementations of “RaStar” will be used in the Pioneer’s base building mechanics. Personally, I think the Pioneer will be added sometime in late 2023-early 2024
Man really, the SC needs open the opportunity for builders like you, to create your own company on the game or accept the concept and projects for some new company on the game. It is amazing your work!! I'm already see: "Astro Chronicles - The new Module for your life!"
Yeah it would be cool if we could submit our own designs (at least visual in a specific parameters given by CIG) for CIG to get inspired for the particular subject. It would help reduce repetitiveness of one and a same design team trying think of many many different things plus for us players wold be super cool to see and use our designs in a game.
If the ROC had an optional mining head that just tunnelled into bedrock, and the larger handheld tractor tool could stack stones into walls, etc ... we could do base building without needing a pioneer and colonies would be appearing everywhere.
when Outpost building finally comes to PU, the first step would be networking roads from the centeral outpost, underground Hangers and eventually a defence wall that blocks Any ground units coming in and AA turrets with IFFI that can shoot at air support. Absolutely beautiful work on this. Makes me happy I bought one. I just hope I can use the Orion and the reclaimer to get all the materials I need to build build build build.
This has been in concept for 5 years. Even if it made it to production right now it would still take 4-5 years to be flight ready. Super psyched about the pioneer none the less. If we had the Orion, the pioneer and a few other cap ships I'd say this game was almost done and I'd be down for an early launch.
Hm, I'm guessing those facilities were added by multiple Pioneer ships or a single Pioneer ship taking several trips back to restock for the next phase of construction (assembly)?
Yes, pioneer would have a limit how much can it carry - multiple trips would be necessary. Hence expansion base is done step by step. Not like one pioneer can build whole town…. Unless the resources will be available on location and pioneer creates and assemble modules
Like I commented elsewhere, the logistics of flying a Pioneer to pick up modules or transport modules to the Pioneer (versus they pop into existence) will be interesting (see my "Spectrum - Ask the Devs" thread).
it depends if it prints them or just transports them. Printing could be supported by any mining/freight ship. And transporting should create a huge facilities with mechanic of loading those modules. As we all know CIG is about physicalize everything (just the reason Raft got 3 containers instead of 6).
took me 3 years to actually buy the pioneer due to it selling out in 30 seconds. i cannot wait to build the largest pvp cod style war world in a crater.
It seems like the large open area under the ship is where the outpost would be constructed. There's no reason for that to be there otherwise. The arm swinging out to lay a landing pad next to it makes sense, though. That way, for the most basic outpost, the ship wouldn't need to move at all; it can place the structures under it, lay the pad off to the side, then take off from a finished outpost.
I was more curious to how we will place the outposts outside the Pioneers bay. Cranes? Transports? Or is it really gonna be limited to a area under the belly of the Pioneer?
@@EddyKorgo I imagine it would be under the Pioneer, but it could move and even hover to build larger complexes. Having the arm swing out to lay a landing pad like this, however, would mean that the simplest outposts, just a single structure and a pad, could be done really quickly without the ship moving at all.
Been playing Empyrion with some SC friends and we've wondered what's in store for SC and base building and will there be the raw materials grind like what's needed to build bases in Empyrion.
Now this looks cool and all but what I truly hope for is a Rust like base system with destructible walls/roof/floors where you can breach in and steal enemy base/loot and make it your own. Rust is far from a perfect game but one thing it does great is its pvp base conquer and defend mechanics.
This is awesome, however I feel that arm that comes out the side will level or change terrain rather than print things as that's what the center part is all about. Cant wait to see the next part of this!
I know there's a lot of clipping here and there that CIG wouldn't want, but these videos really highlight to me how CIG really over complicates things.
You know i was just thinking about it. Even if that would happen in a game, i think they could get away with it. Little bit of clipping wont hurt anyone if it means ease process for CIG. I would not want them to complicate or even limit things because of few details.
Some of my videos are ending up on spectrum, that’s all I can do from my side. But I think CIG doesn’t have problem with imagination… we just waiting for implementation 😅
As stated in 2019, the Pioneer does not place anything anymore, its prints walls, ceilings, floors, etc and stores it in its cargo hold for you to manually place later on

I'd love to see this ship works as a giant 3D printer with drones scooping up local dirt to act as the base for refillable printer hoppers located on the ship
So... I did some quck maths. By now there's between 3-4 million players in star citizen, nowhere near the number of active players, but it's only a pre-alpha build anyway. Let's say after launch that number increases to 10 mil. If all of them wants their own base and CIG actually delivers on 100 different solar systems, that's 100 000 bases per system. I somehow doubt that is even possible...
If self defense becomes necessary, then an org might buy some land and build infrastructure like defensive turrets, power and shields ... then org members might be tempted to create their own habitats within that protected bubble and you would get townships springing up, rather than lots of individual, isolated bases scattered over every planet. Do you think THAT might be more sustainable?
A base is going to be a pretty end game part of star citizen, for a sizeable outpost you would need an expensive ship like the pioneer or even if not I imagine they wont be cheep. Most people would end up getting real estate in the major cities. If say 10% of the entire playerbase reached the state to build homes thats only about 10,000 per system. I say only because dont forget stantons planets (excluding moons) have a larger surface area than canada, the EU and Australia combined. So there is way more room than they need but I do think it may be too common to stumble across an outpost, as they may only be 30 or 50km from each other.
Once servers can host more than 100 or 200 players in the same instance, CIG should create the first iteration of this based on organizations so every org can have its own base in that system
LOL, I dunno what game you have been playin' but I am still waiting for CIG to roll out a server that can properly (without major AI failures and rubber banding) host 50 people.
Star Citizen will feel like a real world when this becomes a possibility. I want a place to call home. Territory to defend and fight over. Caverns to explore and mine. Without this, Star Citizen feels empty.

👍
Согласен с тобой, я тоже хочу свой дом, свой кусочек поверности😁
Hey guys and gals. I’m in the process of building a rig to play SC and a few other games. I am struggling on deciding between an i7-11700k and a Ryzen 5800x, and input would be greatly appreciated
I really wish we would see this like end of this year, but I really think it won't happen until the end of 2023/2024.
The Pioneer is most likely one of the last things that will be implemented, much like the Endeavor
@@Draxel I know I just wish for more from CIG.
I'm so ready for this in game. Maybe this could be CIGs new way to make money, add in game bases
Send this video to elon musk.. he will be proud
Well, let's redo the concept 😂
I want this game so bad but I don’t like pay to win if I could earn dope ships by grinding
chose bien
Cool stuff, I'm wet. I mean... impressed
Liiks cool but I sure hope it looks better than this in-game when it builds stuff
Add Xenomorphs :)
Good work, but prefabbed areas again??? Highly highly unlikely.......
Well that is the point of the pioneer.
@@ThunderRod Wrong, they are meant to be 3d printed in ship then dispensed. You don't carry around prefabbed sections at all....... Everything is made in the ship, on the spot. You don't go and order 20 prefabbed sections and put them on the Pioneer lol
@@klow6481 That's what I meant, but I think this is video is limited by the artists' capability.
I will work on that, thank your for your comment
@@AstroChronicles No worries keep up the good work :D
A big expensive ship to do the same thing 1 person can do in NMS.
A2 comes along and drops a few bombs ? They nerf the A2 , great .
I do not see the point in ground vehicles.
$50 mil of backers money right there, lulz.
Frontier Dev...are you watching ???
Looks sleek but will this ever happen? SC has a trail of lost concepts that never see the light of day. The only thing that has any hope of being implement seems to be the death of a spaceman, and other punishing mechanics.
Bet. SQ42 2024, Star Citizen Beta 2025.
lol ))) money u-e-e-e-e-e-........
coming soon in year 2035
Спасибо за ролик. Очень хорошо. Продолжайте.
Единственное, будут ли такие аванпосты, у нас тут пишут, что будут другие.
