Correction: This year's citizencon they specifically said all ships shown off would START development in the coming 12 months, not be released in that timeframe. So it's entirely possible that the Ironclad is still a few years out.
@@BOTYgamingI am still hopeful. CIG have seemingly been making an effort to massively streamline their ship pipeline aswell as seem to be doing manufacturers in sets, ie RSI are being the big focu atm but hopefully Drake will get some attention soon too. My personal guess is that the ironclad will be CIG’s way of finalising the drake language and assets before moving onto the kraken, so it’s possible we might see the Kraken start work soon off the heels of the ironclad.
IMO, the Iron clad is the biggest ship I might ever own. It's at the very edge of ships I'd be fine to operate on my own. For combat ships the line is further back for obvious reasons, the clear answer being the connie, but industrial is different. You can technically run any ship solo if you're going for an industrial playstyle, but there's a point where it's just too much if you're alone.
same, I'm still working on the ccu chain for the ironclad but I'm getting really close. ill be stopping at the caterpillar until IC release though since i refuse to fully pledge concepts. But man the IC is sexy, and I 100% plan on solo-ing it (unless i can get my wife to play, then ill solo it while she gets blown up and I escape)
As a caterpillar owner i think having the cockpit on the side gives so much extra visibility because you can actually see under the ship and the landing gears but for in space the cargo management area would be sick
@@carkindozin That is true. Maybe they will add a pilot seat in the middle and keep both. I do agree thinking on it landing and things will be so much better from the side

I greatly enjoy your videos and think that you do an amazing job. One of my favorites was the medical terrapin. Seeing what the beauty we could have had vs what We got in game was just, depressing, lazy , rushed, and bland. Thank you for showing us what could be, even if CIG keeps disappointing.
Do you make your models from scratch or do you start with something and edit them? I have several ideas I want to play around with, but don't think I could make one from scratch.
@Trampus10-4 I should add that I think this is just a fan made model and the interior will probably differ somewhat, but I'm pretty sure it's going to have much more room for bigger ships than a buccaneer.
@@UpToSpeedOnJaguarah yes true, it does say fan art. Did a good representation. I just figured it was leeks of older concepts not what would be or is as it stands.
And today, for the first time, I thought: what if one "fine" day, Chris wakes up and tells us all, "Sorry, I messed up-SC can't be completed, I'm declaring bankruptcy... xD"
i like this ship so much im picking up the other variant.... but any silly person that melted their liberator for one of these might want to re evaluate their opinion. the iron clad could possibly become my daily driver??? i guess it really depends. i just know a liberator is the closest thing to a carrier and 2 small pads can possibly fit 1 large ship just possibly!!! we will see when we get a chance to make videos of if it sits it fits!!! its the poor mans kraken but in my view a liberator may have many more use cases than a kraken.... i think those with a kraken and a liberator will prefer the liberator more often. time will tell! in you kraken your burning fuel or crew cost at millions per hour or in a liberator would be a tiny fraction of that cost.... at least if the game wants any level of realism it doesnt take much fuel to move long distance but in atmo you probably spend a million dollars per minute to hover that mass.
So, your own rendition of the Ironclad then hey? Because the actual one doesnt have a second manned turret at the front AND the tractor beam station, you're missing the tracks and rails for the dedicated tractor beam turrets around the top door, the room at the very top is captains quarters, not multiple bedding, the catwalk inside the bay doesnt stretch around the back of the bay the way it's depicted, and the scale of the whole thing is off by alot. They actually provided dimensions, so perhaps use those to get scale right. You've taken some liberties with a bunch in this video, so again, "your rendition" seems more accurate than the ship actually is.
@AstroChronicles I can assure you that the scale isn't correct. For someone who usually follows the source material so closely, it's disappointing to see you have so many embellishments. Only the Ironclad Assault has the extra turrets, the base model has rails/tracks for extra tractor turrets on top. As far as scale goes, it's 52m wide, 120m long and 20m high. What you've depicted is closer to 40m wide (if using the Buccaneer for scale), maybe 10m high and only 80m long. Which would mean your scale is off by alot. For reference, there's enough height in the bay to stick a Nova and not have it even reach the catwalk, so a Buccaneer definitely shouldn't be at the catwalk.
@@AstroChronicles There are only two Ironclads. The base model and the Assault variant. You claim "some variants have 4 turrets in the front", but that's not a correct statement. There is only one variant that has those turrets, and that model doesn't have the tractor at the front, unlike what you've depicted. If you did your research, you'd know this. Such research would have shown you that the command module from the Caterpillar isn't what comes with the Ironclad. They may be interchangeable, but they're also distinctly different. For starters, the Ironclad's CM is alot longer.
Why are they promising to make this ship? Probably because most didn't spend new money to pickup the concept bc they rightly assumed CIG would take the money and put it back on the shelf. Like they did with the BMM and Galaxy. The Golden Rule with CIG: If you want them to make a concept ship, don't buy the concept. Once they have your money, they don't care if they make it or not.
