    I remember exactly where I was in 1995 for that final and the emotion of beating the mighty ABs with Lomu. The week before, barely beating the French, the physical game against Canada when Dalton got sent off, Chesters 4 ties vs Samoa and Hendriks try in the opening game of the RWC to beat Australia. When Mr Mandela lifted that cup with Mr Piennaar, I cried tears of joy. For a brief moment in time SA became one and we were a rainbow nation ❤.

      It was a positive moment, but not so sure the country became one.
      I think ‘95 was more cathartic for one segment of society, and it was ‘07 and particularly ‘19 that broke down barriers more widely.

    What an incredible achievement from our beautiful country who has faced such hardships. To be off to another final with a chance to win their FOURTH trophy from only EIGHT appearances. No team in world sports has won half of the major tournaments they have been in. Lets Go Springboks the nation believes in you!!

    What a lovely video! In 1995 I was a few weeks from my 12th birthday and it was such a special tournament. I remember crying when we won. 2007 was great but 2019 was another one where I cried when we won. I think the difference is that in 95 and 19 we were not the outright favourites at any stage whereas in 07 after the quarter-finals there was a feeling that it was ours to lose.

    The Boks have been in three RWC finals and have won the lot 1995, 2007, and 2019. The ABs have won three times as well but the Boks have the best strike rate considering they didn't compete in the first two RWC's in 1987 and 1991 and have never lost a final.

      While that stat stands in history... one stat the Bok don't have as evidence of world Rugby supremacy and dominance is back to back World Cup titles.
      Should they fail to win the upcoming World Cup Tournament in France it will be another two more tournaments before they can emulate the feat that only one team in the history of rugby, has ever succeeded in achieving.
      As an All Black supporter in my mid 60's l wish you all the best in France later in the year.

    2007 was by far the most complete Springbok tournament performance playing a more representative complete Pattern. 1995 and the emotions of winning influenced a generation of coaches and forcing the boks to play a ultra Conservative style of rugby that was not the Springbok Way historically.

    • @daaichommie708

      100%. People still say "Springbok tactics". Like, yes, we do tend to play a trench warfare style of rugby for the last 30 years, but people forget that we used to have one of the most feared backlines and running play in the world prior to the start of the 2000's.

    • @Br0kensaint1
      @Br0kensaint1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @daaichommie708 oh yes couldn't agree more. Even as far back as the 50s South Africa pioneered attack based rugby. The boks of 51 was responsible for the massacre at Murray Field. In those days tries counted as 3 points as well if not mistaken. Even the teams of the 80s in the rebel tours was anazing attack based patterns. If you watch our Top Rugby schools we play all a similar style of ball in hand direct rugby at pace. Real bok rugby is both beauty and the beast. Which sadly has been somehow forgotten the past 30 years. We have lost our way quite a bit but nothing that can't be fixed. We have the fire power to crack teams open

    As a South African i do wish that a certain type of Bok supporter would stop always going on about being robbed by bad refeering. It happens to every country and team. There have been tons of decisions that have been controversial and argumentative done to everyone. And that is to be expected when you have human beings making calls in a highly charged moment. Theres no real way around it. Have the Springboks had really bad calls made against them? Absolutely they have. But so has everyone else. If anything maybe the blame lies in the IRB frequently changing rules and referees having to learn them and then figure out how to implement them. And human beings are human beings. There will alwats be some degree of bias in decisions. I think that overall it all evens out....since everyone get bad calls made both in their favour and against them. Any team still has to be good.... consistently good to win a WC. And to win more than one. The very fact that the Springboks have won three is a testament to this.

    South African will not forget the 2011 WRC robbery against Australia. New Zealand analyst said that there are no ways that NZ will beat the Boks. Ironically because the Boks was robbed out of the RWC, the never happen which save NZ the embarrassment of losing at home. Let hope this will not be the case in 2023 WRC, that any team loses because of foul play and extreme pour referee. Or maybe we should expect this because the last two years referee have been extremely. pour.

      @@McCool80 I never said that they weren't ill (two nights before the game, by the way), but 28 years have gone by with not a single shred of evidence ever surfacing to support the "intentional poisoning" theory. The "smoking gun" for most theorists is an interview on NZ TV with Rory Steyn, the SAFFA head of security with them at the time, who said he believed it was intentional based on what Laurie Mains had said he had found out. That's it! Hearsay passed down from Laurie Mains, the same coach who was so adamant that his team was intentionally poisoned that he covered up the incident and allowed every shred of evidence to be literally flushed down the toilet.
      Yes they were ill that week, but drinking water in a foreign country is far more believable than some cloak and dagger bullshit lol. Unless you would prefer to believe that a foreign betting syndicate managed to secure employment for one of their agents, who had no credentials and only a first name, in a 5 star hotel belonging to an international consortium, bypassing HR and recruitment protocol, and getting her not only access to, but control over, the VIP clients who were there at the time. All within 3 days of said VIP clients arriving at the hotel.
      People like @ Russell Turner here, are so keen to believe this bullshit, that they even ignore the other opinion that Rory Steyn offered - that SA Rugby had nothing to do with it....
