If you eat the passion fruit when it is dark brown/black on the outside that's when it tastes the best. I don't think yours was fully ripe.

    • @SakuraiKunLikes

I think the one she had is a different variant of passion fruit, I think its from the Asia-Pacific side, I have several passion fruit vines on my garden and they are very similar to the one she had. When the fruit is ripe, it will drop from the vines by itself and it taste intensely floral with very sweet and sour flavour, even after it just dropped from the plant. At first, I though it wasn't ripe yet since its not wrinkled like I used to taste at the supermarket so I kept to awhile to ripen but the fruit became a bit moldy after several weeks and the taste if very off-putting.

Depends on the variety. They come in a lot of different colours, shapes and sizes. The tiny black ones are only one kind.

Majo Salas Calderón What about pavlova? I really like passion fruit with that, cuz of the sour, floral contrast to the sweet pavlova and cream.

    • @majosalascalderon
      @majosalascalderon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

She didn't make pavlova, but she did bake something similar. Baked meringue with passion fruit, we call it Suspiros (means whispers in Spanish. Maybe because it melts in your mouth) it's so crunchy and tart!
The vine gives about 30 pieces of fruit in a good season. I wish I could smuggle some too! jaja

These are my favourite fruit ever! You buy them usually in threes here in Ireland. I start off with one, not even using a spoon, just licking the insides straight.. After the first I tend to just eat the other two and next thing you know they're all gone. The thing is they're so easy to eat that you would happily eat loads more. I've learned to buy in bulk. So tasty!

Yes passion fruit are great! In California, my family over there grows their own and ships them to us. They reach their peak when fragrant and wrinkly. What we do with them is we scoop out the innards and put the innards through a strainer to collect the seeds and pulp. Then we mix the juice with sugar and water to taste and its delicious!

Here in Brazil (and other tropical countries, I guess): we have almost the same passion fruit, but it is sweet! The same "passion fruit" flavour, but the sourness is much more mild.
But, again, the more common is another type: it is yellow-ish, bigger, the skin is more thick and very sour. Therefore, it's name: sour passion fruit.
If you can, try eat passion fruit again (the sour kind or the same in the video) after chewing a miracle berry tablet… it's amazing.

One of my favs. My aunt grows it in her backyard. More than she can ever eat so when I go over to her house I pick all the ones that fell off the vine. They are the best ones because they are ripe.
I like to make passion fruit smoothies with them. Honey, Greek yogurt, ice, a little almond milk and some agave nectar. Throw in some flax seeds or whatever protein or fiber supplements and you got an awesome smoothie.

Passion fruit is very common in New Zealand. I have had Passionfruit cheesecake. You can buy commercially made passionfruit cheesecake at the supermarket in individual or family sized. I have also had some sponge cake with the center filling being whipped cream topped with passionfruit. When I was younger the local ice cream van used to sell sundaes that you could choose from chocolate, caramel, strawberry or passionfruit topping. A local ice cream company even makes passionfruit ice cream with the seeds in.

Those are called Maracuyá here in Peru and we don't usually eat them like that, it's mostly used for juice and desserts, specially desserts and it's a summer fruit, you never find it during winter time. It is very sour but VERY full of a unique flavor like you said, it's delicious!! I don't usually like it in juice because the sugar and water really take away a lot of that intense flavor, but in dessert (ice cream specially) it's just heavenly!!

They grow quiet easily here in Australia, I had passionfruit vines in my back garden when I was younger, and the flowers are very pretty too. We put them on everything, a couple of those scooped over vanilla ice cream is great, we put them on top of a pavlova and mix them with frosting for a really nice cake topping.

We had a huge passionfruit vine growing over the top of our duck yard near their pond we used to get hundreds of them & we'd eat them as kids as a treat or in our lunches. A sprinkle of sugar can really help if they are too bitter for you. Man I miss them.

We call them "parcha" in Puerto Rico and their juice is super common to find! They're actually super popular since they taste good but also help lower blood pressure

I just started growing them here in SW Missouri. Let them grow up a dead tree. At first I wasn't to crazy for the taste, but love them now. I put the pulp with seeds in a blender with some water. Blend well then strain. Ad french vanilla creamer. Mmmmmm.

I'm from Puerto Rico and Passion Fruit is known as Parcha. I remember several years back I had a pretty large Passion Fruit vine which would give some delicious ripe fruit.

It's perfectly ripe. We had a few vines here when I was little, but it was the yellow variety. It's my FAVORITE fruit! I'd pick them right off the vine and I'd bite through the waxy leathery skin and just eat the sweet and sour seeds while it was still warm for. The sun!!!! Oh it's like tasting the sun! BTW try sprinkling a bit of salt on them it will enhance the sweetness and if you're feeling adventurous a tiny bit of chilli powder!! YUM!!!!!

the yellow ones grow wild all over florida, we have one in our front yard at the tree line and the fruits are soooo goood, their apparently high in vitamins a and b, (according to what i've read) they have gorgeous flowers and their good for all sorts of deserts.

So glad you like it! I grew up eating it, in Brazil. We call it "MARACUJÁ." The more wrinkled and rotten looking, the sweeter it is. You do eat the seeds, and I also loooove that crunch! It's like fig seeds times 100 😂

I have passion fruit all along my fence line. My chooks and dog love it and I often don't get to it because the animals have eaten it. but here in Australia you have passion fruit available whenever you want, especially if you're in the tropics. It's always interesting to see something so regular for some be a new experience for others! my dog loves squeezing this between her teeth until I pops and then she sucks all the juice out.

In Jamaica 🇯🇲 when I was a kid we use to cut them in half, add a little sweet condensed milk, mix and eat it in the Shell. One of my favorites. Sweet and tangy. Even by themselves still amazing.

Passionfruit are very popular in Australia. The one you are tasting is called a Panama and they are one of the sweeter ones. Then in the more tropical climates we get yellow ones that are banana shaped and super sweet. We have about 10 different breeds here and I love them all.

Have you ever considered trying mamon fruit? They grow in bunches with a hard light green exterior with a peachy orange/pink colored flesh on the inside surrounding a large white seed. Think opening a different colored lychee and that's the experience with mamon. I ate them in the tropics growing up and they were super tasty and sweet!

If you leave them to mature a little longer they will get more wrinkled and almost appear to be dried out - that’s when it’s sweeter. They have the most amazing flowers.
