Man... as you read the lorebooks it becomes difficult to look at the "monster" as a monster. You just see a disfigured woman who's suffering constantly and only surviving from meal to meal, unable to slake her thirst. The two endings aswell each has such a huge significance, though sparing her and the ending that follows it feels a bit forced while killing her seems more to be the "true ending" i feel like. Man... I haven't seen a horror game this in-touch with its story in a while.
I feel like the two main endings are pretty good. The kill ending though i think can be better if they elaborate more on why ayano can't be killed before. The other endings is a lot more meh for me though. The alien ending? Sure you know what I'll let it pass since it's a joke ending, but the cure ending feels so unsatisfactory. I went through the extra effort to get her the cure, and in the end i got no closing and ayano still kills me? Wth. I'm fine with either the kill or spare being the "true ending" but it feels like this game severely lacks a "good ending", considering the amount of ending there are
@@tonykristhiofan1113 Honestly this whole thing happened due to Kinu lol. She left her sister Ayano on the mountain so she got possessed and turned into a monster, killed her father as well as Saichi for trying to cure Ayano, and led Yui to her death, all because she was jealous of Ayano and wants to be with her forever(she was jealous that both Saichi and Ayano is leaving her). This explains why she was happy when her sister returned even when her appearance was gradually deteriorating. I felt zero remorse for her whatsoever
Fun Fact: Japanese castles and mansions were deliberately built like a maze. This was to keep intruders from being able to get to the reigning shogun or monarch back in feudal Japan. As a result, the landmarks that remain in places like Kyoto still retain that layout. I'm glad to see that they kept that consistent for this game! XD
2:00:37- The fact that the character actually walks around the table rather than just floating over it or something is a supremely beautiful small touch.
Japanese horror tend to be more about psychological horror, there's also more of a larger focus on the super-natural while the endings tend to be more ambiguous. normal horror ( which I'm assuming your basing of western) has more of a focus on gore and violence while using jump scares and often provide closure towards the end of the movie. I feel the reason as to why you feel that way is the larger emphasis on psychological horror its why a lot of people like myself loved the silent hill games.
Hey Ryan you may not know me but I've been watching you since 2020! I may not have to much but I want to show my appreciation towards all the entertainment, videos, and laughs you have gave this community! I want to say thank you for doing what you do best and have a great 2024!
So Ayano(the monster) and Kinu(the grandma) were sisters, Saichi(MC's "Fake Grandpa") wants to marry Ayano cause love. Kinu gets jealous, loses ayano in mountains, ayano gets possesed and becomes blood drinking demon. Ayano births Yui(Mc's mom), who is also a demon but killed herself before she started eating people. Kinu also killed saichi when he tried to cure Ayano(and possibly Yui) because her delusions led her to think he was taking her away.
Yeah Kinu was a straight up villain, I was glad to see that the protagonist let go of his resentment of her, but also never forgave her. And that he acknowledge Ayano as his Grandma.
SPOILERS: Family tree: Lord Kyubei --> 2 daughters, Kinu and Ayano (jealousy occurs like the Princess Mayu story, Ayano stuck at the mountain, returns as a monster, Lord Kyubei doesn't kill her, Kinu loves her still) Kinu & Saichi get married at Lord Kyubei's command due to Ayano being "ill" even tho Saichi loved Ayano Ayano as monster --> Yui (but Saichi and Kinu raised Yui as their own. seems Saichi loved Yui because she looked like Ayano) Yui & Eiji --> You, Minato (Kinu, your "grandma" kills your grandpa, Saichi) (your mom, yui, visits her "mom" Kinu upon hearing about her father's death, finds out who her mother really is and then commits suicide) so the monster that's chasing you is technically your grandmother... I was getting confused by the characters using first name basis, so typing this out helps me better understand the story... lol
Of course Kinu knew what Ayano was. She had to care for Ayano the rest of her life. Saichi also knew because he wanted to try and cure her. And Kinu abandoned Ayano in the mountains, which led to whatever happened to her up there. And Kinu did that because she was jealous of Ayano. Ayano returned because she loved Kinu, even to the end when she finally lost her mind, she at least remembered the sister who hated her so much. Kinu was the straight up villain in this game.
I have an idea: IIRC, the note from the doctor to Kinu was talking about a mass in her skull that was causing her headaches/memory loss. What if that mass was the cocoon needed to cure Ayano? If not that, there's the note later on that talked about Kinu and Ayano being "two halves of a whole", and the notes at the end talked about the two of them becoming one after forming a cocoon. So maybe if Kinu and Ayano were reunited before the end, instead of the silkworms that appeared in the second ending, there would have been a person? Edit: I saw a video on the side that was an explanation of the game, and my first thought about the mass in Kinu's skull was wrong. There's actually an ending that you can get if you buy a key in an in-game shop that leads to the "Butterfly Room" of the mansion, where you find the cocoon that Ayano and Kinu's father had located
16:40 It is true that most Moths or Butterflies cannot eat, and rely on the energy they gained as a caterpillar to find a mate and reproduce. I wouldn't say it is all human intervention, there are a lot of different species that are like this, that we have no interaction with. Most vile thing about silk moths to me is that they get to live their lives up to the point of becoming a cocoon, and are then boiled and separated to harvest the thing strands of silk, and of course the larvae are eaten. I suppose they do get an all they can eat buffet before all that, and have no predators to worry about, it's just that, live lobster in a pot feeling, while watching them boil those cocoons... both are bugs, but I certainly wouldn't want that to happen to me, no matter how many methods of making them sleepy there is.... just found out that resting the lobster on the back of its head, body upright, makes them fall asleep.
My thoughts, theories and explanations throughout the game. This comment could be considered as big summary of the game's lore. Could be useful to read if you didn't understand the story...(spoilers coming ahead ofc) (pls take into account that these are my raw theories so some of them are not exactly accurate but you will understand more the further you read) So Grandpa Saichi was in love with Ayano at first sight 54:30 "this person looks like Mom".... 55:08 So Lord Kyubei is our grandma's father. And the picture of the girl with written Ayano on the back is our grandma's sister, so our mom's aunt as well.. 1:00:43 Kinu (our grandma) love at first sight with Saichi but she got jealous when she understood that he loved her sister (Ayano) At that time Ayano is compared to a butterfly both by souichi and her sister. I realized at this moment that if we don't burn and kill the silkworms they transforms into butterfly...do the grandma feels some kind of bittersweet feeling due to jealousy ? Like when she kills the silkworms it's like she was keeping them from hatching and becoming butterfly (which would remind her of her sister). + at the beginning when she talks about burning the silkworms, her tone of voice sounds sadistic, it's she likes to kill them 1:02:32 the ghost says "kinuuu***" idk why but they way she talks feels familiar to when you are close to someone in Japan (you call them directly by their name) and I realized that the monster could look like Ayano (reference from the pic we saw earlier, long black hair, pale skin). Did Kinu turned her sister into a monster ? Is she seeking revenge ? 1:09:03 kinu's started to be mean to her sister because of jealousy, and bursted out because she knew Ayano will marry Saichi 1:16:00 why Kinu hates our mom so much ? When we saw the pic of Ayano, the protagonist said she looked like his mom. Is Ayano the real mom of Yui ? That would explain why Kinu hates her. 1:18:43 Kinu said Ayano disappointed but came back "her kimono, sandals and hair remained pristine and spotless" reminds me of the Mayu fairy tale when the girl wanted to rid of her sister but she ended up coming back anyway 1:22:28 omg 😱 we learn why he married Kinu instead of Ayano..also we discover that Ayano was in the cage, give one more argument convincing me that she's the creature chasing us 1:23:35 Ayano is confirmed to be the monster but one question still remain for me, how did that happened ? What happened exactly when she was missing ? 1:29:17 Kinu annoyed that Saichi left to take care of Yui, again, why does she hate her own daughter so much ? Did Kinu killed Saichi because she learnt that he wanted to save Ayano ? 1:35:05 is Yui's real mom Ayano ? 1:44:34 theory confirmed, Kinu killed Saichi because he wanted to save Ayano (so separating the sisters) but why does it feel like there's a switch up in kinu's emotion. She loved Saichi and she even married him while she despised her sister because she was originally Saichi's lover. And now she doesn't want to be separated from sister and she seem to not like Saichi anymore to the point she kills him. Is it really because she's doesn't want to be separated from her sister or because she doesn't want Saichi to save her ? 1:47:58 "drinks water like she's about to die of dehydration" just like Yui and Minato. "Upon her pale back, a pattern resembling the markings found on a silkworms has taken form" one more link to the silkworms.. 1:51:17 (1938) SHE'S PREGNANT WHATT ?!?!?! Can the kid she gave birth to be Yui ? 1:54:34 confirmed that Yui is Ayano's daughter. As we now understand that we are too monsters, it explains why our mom and I felt bad when approaching the red talisman. 1:57:13 Ayano is referring herself as a silkworms rather than a butterfly. I feel so bad seeing Ayano being so pure towards her sister while Kinu is just despising her. This reminds me of the scene at the beginning where Kinu talks about boiling the silkworms in a sadistic and very cold way show showing her despise and hate for her sister. 1:59:32 Ayano transformation into her demon form...even when she's helpless she still thinks about her sister dearly 2:00:55 Kinu try to kill Ayano (but fails since she's chasing us). We finally see a little of Kinu's love for her sister 2:07:34 help- why does the protagonist talk like that At 45:58 when Kinu received the letter she must've understand that Minato (us) had the same thing as Ayano
1:35:26 "so thirsty that she couldn't bear it so she drank the Canary's blood" remind me of Toga's backstory the part where she drinks a little bird's blood from the body (if you know you know....that part anyway...I only read the manga)
Saichi (?) knew about Ayano. Kinu's note says he told her there was a cure for Ayano. Kinu was a nutjob and thought he was trying to take Ayano away from her and pushed him down the well. She was an evil bitch. Ryan you must have forgotten that part of the game.
These types of games don't usually have a dlc or sequel but I wanna see one where minato find the cure to at least turn her back into a human so she can die peacefully...
I think one of the saddest parts of this game is that each and every one of those talismans in the hallway leading to her prison was drained which means Ayano suffered through a severe amount of pain just to get her sister back out after she tried to get rid of herself.
the endings hit me where the spare option felt so bad for the poor creature that ended up be the bad ending but at least the kill put her out of misery Edit: almost 100 likes for just saying a opinion of the creatures life and its story but ok cool I guess 0_0
@@Necrowolf81She turned into the cocoon I think. It might just be me but the Ayano we see in the ending looks more ghostly, I don't think it's actualy there, more of a metaphorical thing. Either way it's definitely better than dropping out of college, cutting ties with your dad, and dedicating your life to taking care of a monster.
@@yawningabyss681 i feel like with the given lore, it kinda implies that she regained her humanity afterall.. through the protagonist, that alongside Yui were always just a part of her (well.. she being the hollow coccoon) that would be through the hardship ressurected and turned into a human proper, this time by choice
Those flashbacks style remind me of Fatal Frame: Crimson Butterfly. Same vibes. Both creepy Also, just checked: yes, silk is made by killing the worms. I didn't know this either and I feel super bad now, especially because some silk farmers have found a way to, not only not genetically modify the worms, but also letting them hatch naturally and live. The fact that there is a much more nature-respecting way of making silk exists and yet most producers opt for the "boiling alive" way is heartbreaking. Edit: You might have noticed that I didn't say "it's bad and evil", I said " it makes me sad" meaning that I am describing my feeling toward this piece of information without qualifying it as bad or good. If you do not feel bad for it, you do you I guess. Feel free to have your own opinion. Just let me have mine.
They're probably going for the shock factor to draw the emotions of the player. It's a relief to know we've found ways to ethically harvest the silk without boiling the worms alive.
?! I'm very surprised/happy to hear this (Minato's) voice actor acting in a game, and in a HORROR GAME no less! For that matter, all of the acting way amazing!
wanted to say this game was really beautifully done! can tell there were alot of love put into this ! loved it and the story thanks for playing this game ryan i got to see a new horror game!
Unfortunately yes, traditionally silk is made by boiling silkworms alive in their cocoons. It's a pretty horrifying fact, at least 3,000 worms are killed to produce one pound of silk. There are companies out there that do make silk using different techniques that doesn't kill the silkworm, one company is called Ahimsa and they produce silk in a way that doesn't hurt the silkworms, but a lot of companies don't since it's faster to just boil them alive. Even more sad is that, yes, the moths can't fly and they don't have mouths. It's because their bodies are just too big and heavy for the size of their wings. They lose their mouths during their pupal stages in their cocoons, as do a lot of moths such as the Luna Moth, Atlas Moth, Rosy Maple, etc. Scientists aren't entirely sure why this happens, but it's more common in domesticated moths.
if you ever play it again, there is 2 or 3 more ending idk and there is one that will make you laugh Ryan and other is about the Cocoon Ending, if you intend to play it again, I hope to see your reaction with those endings. Sincerely-
japanese author really knew how to tear up people eyes from horror story to anime and drama they keep it 100 really loving some of the japanese game dev cause they never disapointed us with stuff like this
Just got off work and immediately greeted by an over 2 hour video from my favorite creator. What an excellent start to my weekend. Much love, Ryan. I appreciate everything you do.
Such a lovely game to watch through, japanese games always so charming to it's own level whether it's horror or not its just a great esthetics. I'm such a sucker for japanese style games or overall entertainment honestly. Love the video btw ❤
Freaking sad story. Kuni was so vile, and Ayano was an angel walking amongst men. It is so typical of life.... the best of us are doomed to die from disease, while the most vile live forever.
This is a weirdly beautiful game. What is it about Japanese Horror Games being both absolutely more terrifying than most other games, and being beautiful? Whatever the case, I'm glad to have seen this
Untold Truth: What happened to Ayano in the mountains was that she came across Rei who made her part of her family by transforming her into a demon after giving her his blood, Ayano however is probably so powerful that she managed to escape from him and also like Nezuko adapted to the sun too.
The horror is done right, the storyline makes so much sense and is detailed, wonderful graphics. Wow, this is such a gut wrenching yet beautiful horror game. Everything just falls so well in place, I love it
I like where ryan refuse to stop playing the coin game, even though he lose alot that he refusing to accept the lost and move on. Gambling addict right there XD
And lo, since I love Ryan's videos so much, I spent a literal hour and a half writing this story of my take on HOLLOW COCOON, this legit might be the longest story I have ever wrote, this took me 4 hours so if you read it all I would sincerely appreciate it, and also be astronomically flabergasted and if you dont fall unconcious by the time you are half way through, and for the jokes including the most horror games played in a day and the most games completed without getting jumpscared YOUR WELCOME, also a little warning, prepare yourself before you press read more, this is my longest story and my most proudest, I expect lots of comments below saying, IM NOT GOING TO READ ALL THAT, but I came prepared this time with a lot more than I usually bring to the table and this time I had to shorten it because youtube didnt allow me to post something that big lmao XD - *In the neon-lit 1980s, the vibrant atmosphere of university life did little to dispel the shadows that haunted 8-bit Ryan's past. The buzzing sounds of arcade games and the flickering glow of pixelated screens provided a temporary escape, but the looming call from his father, Eiji, shattered the illusion of carefree existence. Eiji's somber voice crackled through the phone, urging Ryan to return to Ichinose, his late mother's hometown. The urgency in his father's tone hinted at a dire situation - the health of his estranged maternal grandmother, Kinu Miyama, had taken a sudden downturn. As Ryan stepped off the train in Ichinose, the air carried a heavy weight of nostalgia and unspoken sorrow. The quaint town, draped in cherry blossoms, seemed to whisper secrets of the past. Guided by the cryptic call of duty, Ryan found himself at the Miyama residence. The ancient house loomed like a specter from a bygone era, its walls echoing with the untold stories of generations past. Intrigued by the mysterious blurb he had stumbled upon, Ryan delved into the shadows that clung to the Miyama legacy. "The thing with silkworms, you know; even if they could leave their cocoons, they have no mouths to eat, and their wings do not fly," the quote resonated within him as he uncovered a series of cryptic letters and notes from his grandmother Kinu. Each revelation pulled him deeper into the cocoon of secrets that housed a terrifying creature known as the silkworm. Ryan's journey through the Miyama mansion unearthed the tragic past that Kinu had endured, a path that seemed destined for him as well. The sky reddened in the twilight, and the mountains cast an ominous shadow, mirroring the darkness that lurked within the family's history. In a room veiled by the passage of time, Ryan experienced a vivid nightmare that intertwined with the threads of his family's suffering. His grandfather Souchi, once a beacon of affection, now haunted his dreams. The memory of the only conversation he'd had with Kinu as a young boy echoed, and the chilling revelation of his mother's suicide sent shivers down his spine. As the narrative unfolded, it became clear that Kinu's tragic tale originated from a love triangle with Souchi, who was originally engaged to Ayano, Kinu's older sister. Abandoning Ayano during a fateful mountain walk triggered a sequence of events that led to Ayano's Monstrous Transformation, a vampiric humanoid silkworm. The Miyama sisters' bond, forged through the loss of their mother, shattered, leading Ayano down a path of darkness. The family doctor, coerced by Kyuhei, Kinu and Ayano's father, concealed Ayano's monstrous side from the public, sealing the fate of the innocent servant who fell victim to her insatiable bloodlust. Ryan, now entangled in the web of family secrets, faced a formidable challenge. Ayano's transformation unleashed a nightmarish reality within the Miyama mansion. The insatiable bloodlust, the grotesque physical changes, and the monstrous aura that clung to the house compelled Ryan to fight for his life. The silkworm, a symbolic abomination, epitomized the suffering that plagued the Miyama lineage. Ryan's own blood, tainted by the family curse, pulsed with an unnatural hunger, a shared affliction with his vampiric kin. In the heart of the mansion, Ryan confronted the creature that dwelled within the cocoon, a manifestation of centuries-old agony. The battle for survival blurred the lines between reality and nightmare, and the secrets hidden within the walls threatened to consume him. Each step echoed with the haunting whispers of the past, and the oppressive silence seemed to amplify the ominous heartbeat of the silkworm creature, steadily inching closer to the heart of the mansion. He could feel the malevolence in the air, a palpable force that sought him out with a relentless determination. Finally reaching the dilapidated front door, Ryan emerged into the moonlit courtyard, gasping for breath. The mansion's silhouette stood tall against the night sky, its windows like vacant eyes staring into the abyss. However, the reprieve was short-lived. The ground beneath him trembled, and a deafening roar shattered the stillness. As Ryan gazed in horror, a monstrous silhouette emerged from the earth itself - the silkworm, now an abomination of colossal proportions, rose before him. Its grotesque form, 20 meters tall, cast a looming shadow over the once-sacred grounds. In a heart-stopping moment, the creature's monstrous eyes fixated on Ryan, its hunger for revenge evident. Without hesitation, the colossal silkworm lunged towards him, the very earth trembling with each thunderous step. Panic surged through Ryan as he sprinted, desperately seeking escape from the relentless pursuit. The ground quivered beneath him as the silkworm's gaping maw descended, threatening to consume him whole. In a desperate bid for survival, Ryan plunged his spear into the creature's monstrous form, unleashing a torrent of thick, viscous fluid. The world seemed to slow as he fought against the suffocating embrace of the silkworm's digestive tract. The battle within the belly of the beast was a harrowing struggle against the pulsating walls closing in on him. Darkness enveloped him, the acidic stench of the creature's innards assaulting his senses. Summoning every ounce of strength, Ryan thrust his spear deeper into the beast's brain, a final act of defiance. The creature convulsed, its monstrous form spasming in agony. As the world around him seemed to collapse, the silkworm spat him out onto the blood-soaked ground. Breathless and battered, Ryan lay on the courtyard as the colossal creature, wounded and defeated, sank back into the earth. The malevolent tyranny of the silkworm, now silenced, descended into the underworld below. The moon cast its gentle glow upon the scene, the world finally free from the malicious grip that had plagued it for centuries. As the specter of the silkworm vanished into the abyss, Ryan's exhausted body lay amidst the ruins, the weight of the ordeal etched into his very being. The once-sinister mansion, now devoid of its monstrous secret, stood as a relic of the past. With the night's silence broken only by the distant echoes of victory, Ryan's journey came to an end, leaving the world liberated from the shackles of an ancient malevolence. Just as he began to come to terms with the turmoil that had gripped his family for generations, the distant sounds of approaching footsteps echoed through the courtyard. The silhouette of familiar faces emerged from the shadows - Eiji, his father, and the remaining members of his family rushed to the scene. Their eyes met in a mixture of relief and sorrow, the weight of shared history etched into every line on their faces. Eiji, with tears in his eyes, reached out to Ryan, offering a comforting embrace. "You can rest in peace now. Tomorrow, the world will be rid of the silkworm, and you will be free once more." The courtyard, once a battlefield, transformed into a haven of shared understanding. The familial bond, once strained by the darkness that lurked within, now became a source of solace. Each member of the Miyama family stood united, their shared struggles woven into the fabric of their legacy. As the moon bathed them in its gentle light, a sense of closure washed over them. The journey had been arduous, the pain unforgettable, but in that moment, they found a glimmer of peace. The echoes of the past lingered, but with each breath, they embraced the promise of a new dawn. The next morning, the sun rose over Ichinose, casting its warm rays on the town that had witnessed centuries of hidden suffering. The Miyama family gathered one last time, standing before the remnants of the mansion that had held their secrets. As they watched in silence, the earth trembled once more, but this time it was not a harbinger of darkness. The weight of the past had been lifted, and a new chapter unfolded before them. They vowed to honor the memories of those lost, to cherish the bonds that remained, and to forge a future unburdened by the shadows of yesteryears. As the sun climbed higher in the sky, bathing Ichinose in a warm embrace, the Miyama family turned away from the remnants of the mansion. Their journey had been one of pain and redemption, but in the end, they emerged stronger, their unity unbroken. And so, as the pages of their family's history turned, the Miyama legacy lived on - a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the power of familial bonds, and the enduring hope that even the darkest nightmares can be vanquished in the light of a new day* . And there it is lol, so much time put into this story, but this game is just truly amazing so I felt the honor to write this story, I hope no 6 year olds read this, or they may never be the same again lol, but apart from that, hope you enjoyed the story, and if you are wondering yes I am an author lol, I am writing a story called long may they stand with 37,000 words atm, AND EVERYONE KNOWS THAT AUTHORS GAME 23 hours a day lmao XD 💀💀💀
The first hour of the game was quite a cutscene galore, like we have cutscene for almost everything (to make sure player is looking at thing they need to look) but when they let you free roam, it feel so much better. I personally don't mind notes lore dump so I would have preferred it at normal speed.
This game is so darn good, also, is it just me or is Asian horror just way scarier than American horror. Same with movies. Like, if anyone here has ever seen Train to Busan, then you know that American Zombie horror stuff, does not even come close to how terrifying that was despite the often way bigger budget. I don't know exactly what it is, but Japanese, Koreans and the Chinese just make horror that actually scares the shit out of me, which rarely happens with Hollywood horror films.

16:38 After nearly 500 years of selective breeding for the silk industry the ability to fly has been lost. The adult moths do not have mouths so will not eat or drink but will survive on stored body fats and fluids. This is the explanation i got from Google if ur curious about this.
I love your videos, you are one of my favorite Horror gaming channels on here and I also like your videos because you dont actively talk over the and listen also pay attention to the game
(BTW, haven't watched the full episode when I posted this) Just had a lore moment, the grandfather liked his daughter because when the main guy reacted to Ayano's photo said she looks like his mother which young grandfather adored, and Kinu, the grandmother, out of jealousy hated Ayano since she stole the grandfather and due to first memory lose from her tumor and second her regret and jealousy thought the mother was Ayano and killed her, then the ghost might be the mother coming back due to her hatred for Kinu not giving her the parent she needed when grandfather died, or even worse the grandmother might have killed the grandfather due to him leaving with his daughter, reimagining the scene where Ayano married the grandfather, killed the grandfather out of spite again which led to what I said first, Kinu killing the daughter. Tell me if I'm wrong, might be since I haven't watch the full video.
Man... as you read the lorebooks it becomes difficult to look at the "monster" as a monster.
Wth. I'm fine with either the kill or spare being the "true ending" but it feels like this game severely lacks a "good ending", considering the amount of ending there are
Story still absolutely top notch, holy crap kinu destroyed her family just because of a man
@@tonykristhiofan1113 Honestly this whole thing happened due to Kinu lol.
Yeah
Omg i was thinking the same thing!!
I swear japanese horror games always scares me more than the normal horror games.
Yeah, I don’t know how Japanese horror games do it, but I’m not complaining
I agree 😊
@RoarTheRapper ohhhh that’s actually a very good reason
Puppet combo is also scary too they made the scariest games for example nun massacre@gabrielmaragh38

The kill option is the real good ending, and also canon.
Yandere is the best 🗿
Yeah Kinu was a straight up villain, I was glad to see that the protagonist let go of his resentment of her, but also never forgave her. And that he acknowledge Ayano as his Grandma.
SPOILERS:
Family tree: Lord Kyubei --> 2 daughters, Kinu and Ayano
(jealousy occurs like the Princess Mayu story, Ayano stuck at the mountain, returns as a monster, Lord Kyubei doesn't kill her, Kinu loves her still)
Kinu & Saichi get married at Lord Kyubei's command due to Ayano being "ill" even tho Saichi loved Ayano
Ayano as monster --> Yui (but Saichi and Kinu raised Yui as their own. seems Saichi loved Yui because she looked like Ayano)
Yui & Eiji --> You, Minato
(Kinu, your "grandma" kills your grandpa, Saichi)
(your mom, yui, visits her "mom" Kinu upon hearing about her father's death, finds out who her mother really is and then commits suicide)
so the monster that's chasing you is technically your grandmother...

Could be useful to read if you didn't understand the story...(spoilers coming ahead ofc) (pls take into account that these are my raw theories so some of them are not exactly accurate but you will understand more the further you read)
So Grandpa Saichi was in love with Ayano at first sight
54:30 "this person looks like Mom"....
55:08 So Lord Kyubei is our grandma's father. And the picture of the girl with written Ayano on the back is our grandma's sister, so our mom's aunt as well..
1:00:43 Kinu (our grandma) love at first sight with Saichi but she got jealous when she understood that he loved her sister (Ayano)
At that time Ayano is compared to a butterfly both by souichi and her sister. + at the beginning when she talks about burning the silkworms, her tone of voice sounds sadistic, it's she likes to kill them
1:02:32 the ghost says "kinuuu***" idk why but they way she talks feels familiar to when you are close to someone in Japan (you call them directly by their name) and I realized that the monster could look like Ayano (reference from the pic we saw earlier, long black hair, pale skin). Did Kinu turned her sister into a monster ? Is she seeking revenge ?
1:09:03 kinu's started to be mean to her sister because of jealousy, and bursted out because she knew Ayano will marry Saichi
1:16:00 why Kinu hates our mom so much ? When we saw the pic of Ayano, the protagonist said she looked like his mom. Is Ayano the real mom of Yui ? That would explain why Kinu hates her.
1:18:43 Kinu said Ayano disappointed but came back "her kimono, sandals and hair remained pristine and spotless" reminds me of the Mayu fairy tale when the girl wanted to rid of her sister but she ended up coming back anyway
1:22:28 omg 😱 we learn why he married Kinu instead of Ayano..also we discover that Ayano was in the cage, give one more argument convincing me that she's the creature chasing us
1:23:35 Ayano is confirmed to be the monster but one question still remain for me, how did that happened ?
1:59:32 Ayano transformation into her demon form...even when she's helpless she still thinks about her sister dearly
2:00:55 Kinu try to kill Ayano (but fails since she's chasing us). We finally see a little of Kinu's love for her sister
2:07:34 help- why does the protagonist talk like that
At 45:58 when Kinu received the letter she must've understand that Minato (us) had the same thing as Ayano
1:35:26 "so thirsty that she couldn't bear it so she drank the Canary's blood" remind me of Toga's backstory the part where she drinks a little bird's blood from the body (if you know you know....that part anyway...I only read the manga)
Same! Along with being labeled a monster, thought Toga doesn't look monstrous.
@@joyc.e.7511 yeah
Can I get a backstory for that?
The voice acting for this videogame for incredible. Such a joy to watch Ryan play through this game!
Saichi (?) knew about Ayano. Kinu's note says he told her there was a cure for Ayano. Kinu was a nutjob and thought he was trying to take Ayano away from her and pushed him down the well. She was an evil bitch. Ryan you must have forgotten that part of the game.
yesss literally.. like they were trying to find the cure and she killed them before they could, kinu pissed me off she is the villain
These types of games don't usually have a dlc or sequel but I wanna see one where minato find the cure to at least turn her back into a human so she can die peacefully...
Honestly all the names, time frames confused me idk who's who 😂
So Ayano(the monster) and Kinu(the grandma) were sisters, Saichi(MC's "Fake Grandpa") wants to marry Ayano cause love. Kinu gets jealous, loses ayano in mountains, ayano gets possesed and becomes blood drinking demon. Ayano births Yui(Mc's mom), who is also a demon but killed herself before she started eating people. @@Ayumu31 Actually I've heard that this game has several different endings. Ayano turns back to human is one of them
I watched another person play this actually and this game is so amazing. I loved every moment of it and I'm glad you're playing it as well Ryan

47:47 was truly something special, I haven't seen Ryan that excited about something in quite some time.
Those are the best moments in games! Beating something abnormally difficult.
whats the song?
I think one of the saddest parts of this game is that each and every one of those talismans in the hallway leading to her prison was drained which means Ayano suffered through a severe amount of pain just to get her sister back out after she tried to get rid of herself.
I love how Ryan literally got chased but stopped to read 3 pages when he could have died 💀
It gives you immunity in the horror genre.
the endings hit me where the spare option felt so bad for the poor creature that ended up be the bad ending but at least the kill put her out of misery
Edit: almost 100 likes for just saying a opinion of the creatures life and its story but ok cool I guess 0_0
did you not pay attention? the kill option did not actually kill her
@@Necrowolf81She turned into the cocoon I think. It might just be me but the Ayano we see in the ending looks more ghostly, I don't think it's actualy there, more of a metaphorical thing. Either way it's definitely better than dropping out of college, cutting ties with your dad, and dedicating your life to taking care of a monster.
@@Necrowolf81 I saw and realized that, oops
@@yawningabyss681 i feel like with the given lore, it kinda implies that she regained her humanity afterall.. through the protagonist, that alongside Yui were always just a part of her (well.. she being the hollow coccoon) that would be through the hardship ressurected and turned into a human proper, this time by choice
Ryan always be cookin with these longer videos . Keep up the good work.
Dang, this game looks absolutely stunning, the sun, the graphics, the atmosphere, makes you feel like you’re actually there
Those flashbacks style remind me of Fatal Frame: Crimson Butterfly. Same vibes. Both creepy
Also, just checked: yes, silk is made by killing the worms.
::rolls eyes: its a bug.... ::rolls eyes again::
They're probably going for the shock factor to draw the emotions of the player. It's a relief to know we've found ways to ethically harvest the silk without boiling the worms alive.

Even while playing horror games like this one, Ryan still manages to make me laugh my arse off with his puns and dad jokes 😂🤣
This was yet another rollercoaster of a ride. great video Ryan! I always love your reaction when you find out about a hiding mechanic in a game XD
if you ever play it again, there is 2 or 3 more ending idk and there is one that will make you laugh Ryan and other is about the Cocoon Ending, if you intend to play it again, I hope to see your reaction with those endings. Sincerely-

Untold Truth: What happened to Ayano in the mountains was that she came across Rei who made her part of her family by transforming her into a demon after giving her his blood, Ayano however is probably so powerful that she managed to escape from him and also like Nezuko adapted to the sun too.

*In the neon-lit 1980s, the vibrant atmosphere of university life did little to dispel the shadows that haunted 8-bit Ryan's past.

This game is so darn good, also, is it just me or is Asian horror just way scarier than American horror.
Same with movies. Like, if anyone here has ever seen Train to Busan, then you know that American Zombie horror stuff,
does not even come close to how terrifying that was despite the often way bigger budget.
I don't know exactly what it is, but Japanese, Koreans and the Chinese just make horror that actually scares the shit out of me, which rarely happens with Hollywood horror films.
Its the focus on psychological horror rather than jumpscare that makes it scarier.

16:38 After nearly 500 years of selective breeding for the silk industry the ability to fly has been lost. The adult moths do not have mouths so will not eat or drink but will survive on stored body fats and fluids. This is the explanation i got from Google if ur curious about this.
It’s a good day when Ryan uploads
2+ HOUR LONG VID FROM RYAN???!!! perfect way to start my weekend
Just wanted to comment. Have a good day whoever sees this
First......
This game is pretty good.
And has a tragic story.
Nevermind, the monster was Ayano.
Oh I’m excited to see this fully, kinda reminds me of this one Roblox game just a tiny bit
I liked my oun comment
