You know what is the worst part about all this? ... We never had breakfast. We just woke up, read a note. Get chewed out by the man in charge. Nearly die by falling into the ocean. Then suddenly we are in horror-land. All without even a crumb to eat.
I love how each character, even the ones found dead, are expressed as dimensional human beings through the voice acting. The sadness and grief Cas shows when finding a dead crewmate is simply beautiful. In most horror games a dead body is just an unfortunate victim, usually unnamed. What a well made game
that was it for me, too-- no matter what these people did, they had their own connections that held even after death. characters who were close friends with a monster character once, unable to leave them. The docile monsters, still mumbling names of people dead by their hands or monstered themselves. The recognition, fondness, and grief of Caz seeing every individual, turning them from just a body to Someone He Knew. this game is incredibly humanizing, for how the entity tried to "unhuman" them.
Reminds me of Amnesia: The Bunker a little; while there wasn't as much live dialogue in that, all the depictions of people in a war felt so real it made me feel sad, but it also made me feel like such a small person in such a big world instead of the typical main character, which is good for the setting.
The fact that Caz gives Finley his lighter at the beginning and then she gives it back to him in the end to destroy the rig and cosmic horror..what a crazy full circle moment. Absolutely amazing game, thanks for the video Ryan. Wild 3 hours of being stuck on a sinking graveyard in the middle of the ocean. Horrifying to think about
I miss being this easily surprised by things like these. Now my reaction to those is "ugh, I know the lighter will mean something big when it's just a f.. lighter"
I could hear this dialogue all day. It feels so natural. And even with all the variations of the Scottish accent in terms of thickness you can still hear them clearly. Absolutely hilarious.
@@RenkencenYep. The year after, 1976, Jim Callaghan becomes PM, takes out a £3 Billion loan from the IMF and uses North Sea Oil to soften the blow to the economy. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The screams of horror and pain are so real sounding, that honestly is the scariest part of the game to me. Just the genuine torture that all the “monsters” are in
Is anyone else talking about the overall game? It's so well-made and the quality is unreal it's like watching an imax movie or something. I like that the game isn't so long because of difficulty but because it offers a developed plot and storyline. It's so refreshing to see games like this because nowadays most horror is boring monster designs, repetitive elements or unnecessarily hard games. This game is so freaking awesome dude it's like Annihilation but at sea and the fact that everyone is just stranded at the oil rig is just so terrifying. The first part of the game was scary enough because the quick time events where the character would be close to falling felt so real and so it actually gave me goosebumps. Every character has a unique, complex personality. The dialogue was one of my favorites (as an American). So glad this game reached you, Ryan!
@@wounderwillow9532 yeah, thanks. it just seemed like nobody was surprised (because they already watched gameplay probably) just talking about ryans output which is impressive too. this was the first i've seen of this game so i just automatically thought that ryan was the first for some reason.
I am SO happy I'm not alone in making the connection between this game and Annihilation, haha. I 100% agree with everything you said, it's an absolutely phenomenal experience. Left me completely heartbroken, too. I couldn't stand seeing all these poor people in so much pain, physical or mental.
I've always both loved and hated the idea of monsters like this in games. The idea that if you're taken you won't just die, you'll still have some sort of consciousness left over, you're just unable to control your actions, is horrifying. The idea that you're forced to just sit back and watch as you become a gross amalgamation of flesh and murder all your friends is so disturbing and it's why I love these monster designs so much. These particular ones remind me of Sweet Home in the way that they're more trapped in whatever their most intense feelings were when they turned.
You know that idea of becoming a monster and also maintaining a consciousness is something that was done is half life wouldn’t you know! Just take the headcrabs zombies voice lines and reverse them. You’ll see what I mean…
This was a playable horror movie in itself and I loved it. Regarding dialogue, that was the most natural dialogue I’ve ever heard. The comedic bits flowed naturally as well lmaooo. The ending had me tearing up. Cosmic horror isnt really shown in media a lot recently so I’m glad this was created. Great experience!
It was just so sad watching Caz move around the rig, hearing all his coworkers, the people He spent his days for 4 months with, turning into one of them without knowing what to do and absolute unknown of the current circumstances, and Finlay, one of the first characters you meet, and you barely know and any screentime, manages to make an impact on you and Caz by saying "Be brave, be brave for them" felt so real. And the voice acting is so well done.
Wow, the call between Brodie and Caz was so heartbreaking, truly an emotional game, and Finlay snapping and knowing they werent escaping and Caz understanding the same almost made me cry. This felt like Firewatch with how story rich it was, it was super similar in story and the one difference was you interacted with others the entire game, although in this game you slowly lost each person, which is more similar to a game like outer wilds in which there is a time loop after a supernova happens, which makes you wake up at the beginning of the game, and im not gonna spoil it but just know it is super emotional.
I know, right? It just hit me after that part, standing there staring at him, that as awful and horrifying as it was, he was actually one of the lucky ones bc he at least got to actually _die_ . He didn't end up trapped in an amalgamation, terrified and not understanding what's going on or that there's no going home anymore, unable to stop his body as it attacked his friends. It reminds me a bit of a fansong I saw once for Fallout 4, a survivor singing about how the people who died in the initial blast were the lucky ones, not the ones who survived
I’m a type 1 diabetic, I went into a diabetic coma for a week and a 1/2 when I was about 6-7 years old. One of my biggest fears is dying how Roy died and naturally it made me emotional.
Finish watching and I’m left in tears. I honestly cried at the end because I was genuinely hoping that these characters would survive. In the end the game was amazing in every aspect but just so…sad.
The ending was definitely one of the saddest endings I've seen in a while. The entire time I was hoping for Caz to get back to his wife and kids. Man it's just the thought of his wife and kids not ever knowing what happened to him or what happened on the oil rig. That's the thought that makes me cry. They'll never know what happened to their father.
I don’t get attached to characters not after last of us. Games like this like to get you emotionally attached to a character then take them away right as you think they’re safe.
@@Broken_Everlark7 My guy aren't they not gonna hear over the news that a ginormous oil rig just disappeared and sank down to the bottom of the ocean or is the company making the oil rig not that well-known at all?
Dude, this game was SO emotional. The genuine feel of the dialogue between survivors, the agony felt by the infected, the immersive environment, m goodness. Yeah there were some bugs, but the overall feel of this game was incredible. I enjoyed every second of this game. Great 3 hrs well spent
I truly believe this story is inspired by oil rig tragedies in general. If you get rid of the supernatural occurrences, the story can very much happen in real life. It’s a good reason why it’s a good horror setting to many short stories. It sucks that no one will ever know what will happen and even if the company finds out that they’re gone they probably won’t tell the families since they don’t want to deal with lawsuits or compensation to the families.
Cosmic/eldritch horror is not supernatural, it is the horror of an indifferent reality being far stranger and more horrifying than one has the capacity to understand.
@@AmberAbyss-nh4lcthat is supernatural, SN isn’t just magic, it’s expression of the illogical, it’s when the natural is beyond our own natural, it’s a *super* natural that dwarfs our own If our natural is gravity, supernatural is defiance of it, if our natural is death, supernatural is life unending or life beyond death, if our natural is reality, supernatural is a dream The Cthulhu mythos is supernatural of the cosmic type, the supernatural that there’s reality beyond us, that we’re the dreams of greater beings, the supernatural of beings who dwell among the void, dreaming of stars and planets, our lives and deaths, and when they wake is when everything disappears into nothing, brought back when they sleep again to have no memory of what’s happened
Y'know that weird pain in your throat you feel when you're about to get really sad? This is one of the few pieces of fiction that made me feel it. God, it's so good...
I think it’s called getting a lump in your throat, but yeah I completely agree with you, I think this is genuinely one of the best games I’ve ever seen
Yeah, it’s been a while since I actually got emotionally invested in a horror game lol (I heard Soma is another one that does it really well, might check that one out next). The characters don’t even get that much screentime but they still managed to make an emotional impact
This is why I’m a land dweller, most of earths surface has been discovered but nobody can say the same about the ocean. The ocean is vast, deep, and holds life that can sustain itself in the depths where no light and maximum pressure can kill anything else, there can always be something bigger and deadlier than anything that could live on land. Are we truly certain we are safe in the water?
90% of the ocean is unexplored because there isn’t anything interesting there. There isn’t a chance that a predator bigger than shark could survive on anything out there. The biggest “monster” in the ocean would be the giant squid, which has hardly any documentation of it due to its inopportune habitat being so difficult to access.
I think that's true but also think about this, those things down in the pressurized areas couldn't survive up here either. The pressure is always on their skin or scales or whatever and they're adapted to that environment. If they were suddenly removed, they'd become scarred beyond belief and killed probably. Take the blobfish for example.
As an American who likes accents I agree, though its shame most of these people get turned into horrific abominations, that then use their host’s voices to howl and say creepy, vicious threats that sound especially scary by a freaking flesh spider-crab Good game nonetheless
Yeah, and Roy being a Sheffield man resonates with me as well, I think the whole game encapsulates the British lingo very well haha, my grandma was also from Glasgow and it felt a bit like home playing through it
I normally don't comment but god this game seriously moved me i just had to write this. The story and character depth harmoniously intertwined with the horror aspect, multiplying the emotional value of the game as a whole 10 fold. But caz and suze particularly resonated with me. I recently just got together with this classmate who's now the love of my life, and we've only just graduated high school, but we're already trying to commit to this til death do us part. But, seeing how we're basically still kids, naturally we're very anxious and uncertain about the future and what hurdles would try to wrest us apart and tear us down in the future, me most affected particularly. We don't know the full strength of our love nor the weight of our problems later, and we barely even started this relationship. But i do know that i lover her, and she loves me. This story really felt like one of the most interesting and insightful 'what ifs' of how our future could be like, ignoring all the cultural and other trivial differences. It's hard to describe what i just witnessed in words, but one thing i can say's it was damn beautiful. It's grounded close to harsh reality in that caz being a bum relates to my habit of feeling like (and, typically, being) a loser and the arguments cas and suze had that possibly reflect us in the future (hopefully not), but it also paints a beautiful image of what a family filled with faithful love could be like, if only shown for a brief moment. I can at least say i feel a little less uncertain about our future now. I enjoyed every second of watching and experiencing this game, and i don't regret procastinating 3 whole hours for this + the extra hour spent writing this. Thanks devs. And also, you're a real one for reading all the way down here.
Yeah, don’t count on that relationship lasting. It's fun now, but don’t do anything drastic until you're actually fully mature (which is at age 25 btw).
@@maximillian1109This is like, the ONE time you shouldn’t say that. Most people I’ve seen talking about people they care about seem so…vain and infatuated. He seems like he really loves her and she really loves him, and that’s all that matters. I hope the best for them.
This is beautiful. ❤️ I’m married to my high school sweetheart (got married at 27). There were many years of ups, downs, and everything in between. We’re married almost 6 years and our second baby is on the way. Stay true to yourselves and to each other, only you two know your relationship. I’m glad the story of this game moved you in that way.
The gore in this game is SO creative, I love how it’s so colorful and even beautiful at times. It adds to that otherworldly, haunting feel and it’s a take on horror I’ve literally never seen before. It’s like… the flood from Halo meets aurora borealis. Nuts! I also love how the monsters are referred to exclusively by name rather than fully losing their humanity/being identified as something else. The fact that Caz continues to speak about (and even TO) them, still respecting and identifying them as humans, makes it all the more personal and horrifying. It also goes really far in characterizing Caz and showing how deeply he cares. When he’s talking to Roppert and being reassuring and gentle towards him, despite how utterly horrifying he is to look at… god, it really makes you respect him as a character. This game is one of the most unique, well crafted videogame experiences I’ve ever seen.
the existentialism and emotional turmoil between the characters really took a toll on me. not many games do. this one is different, knowing at the end that you just can't do anything and that you never stood a chance
Something else I took notice of. The fact how every character has a name and own personality. it feels real and authentic, and it actually hurts my heart when I watch/hear one of them die or get caught by the anomalies around the rig. Reminds me of the Tartarus Engine when that game included characters with names.
This game is perfect in all ways. I almost cried in the end for Caz’s family. They’ll never see him again, and he won’t see them either. Thanks Ryan for playing this, it was AMAZING. :)
I wanna be hopeful and say they’ll see him on the other side and y’know what I’ll stay hopeful, but I do wish the game had an ending where Caz could escape, while managing to keep the Shape stuck on the rig as it blows up (looked it up after i watched the video, apparently this thing is called the Shape? dunno why but eh)
i like how this game feels like true horror. no over the top action scenes or boss fights, just you trying to survive as the monters slowly hunt you. i also feel like the ending was perfect, because horror used to be known for never having happy endings, and then video games kinda went and ruined that. its amazing to see a game pay tribute to what the genre of horror is suposed to be.
I kinda wish this game had a good ending, but atleast this ending is bitter-sweet at most, which isnt too typical for horror movies usually the ending’s super bleak and terrifying, with the protag and friends dying before the killer moves on to new targets, or the infection spreads everywhere, but this one wasn’t like that at all.
@@leoultimaupgraded9914 Bitter-sweet at best ending kinda reminds me a bit of Hollow Knight; that game has quite a few endings, but there's no 'perfect' one. You can't save everyone, and despite your best efforts, the story ends badly for at least a few people who didn't deserve it.
The main character being referred to as McLeary instantly made me think of McCready from the thing and I honestly couldn't be happier with how much homage and inspiration this games story takes from it😊
Forgot? I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even bother trying. There's a swear every few seconds just about. Idk that it'd be worth the effort. Plus it takes away from the authenticity of it.
@ventusargentum9957 no whats crazy is that it's LONGER AND LESS EDITED think about the LESS EDITED part that could mean HE LEFT THEM IN like cmon your not that slow are you?
@@cyberneko4913 I agree, especially with the fast growing flesh construct like the Wau, the Isolation, the fear and despair, the treacherous infrastructure falling apart, the closeness between the characters.
Wow. That game was fantastic. Probably my favorite part is how real the characters feel and now natural the dialogue flows. These voice actors are SO talented it’s insane. As an American, I really appreciate the breath of fresh air that comes from hearing accents that aren’t obviously from the US, though I do appreciate the help the subtitles give me, as I’m not privy to any kind of Scottish slang 😂😂😂
Nowt "recent" about the slang, Glaswegian has sounded like that for a long, long time. The game is set in the 70's, kinda before my time though I doubt it was out of place to hear folk talk like that then.
as an American who loves hearing accents, especially Scottish, British and Irish ones, I had a ton of fun listening to the dialogue in this game fantastic, really is
I will admit, this game is true cosmic horror. We start the story knowing nothing about whatever it is they drilled into and we end the story not knowing still. Hell, we don't even know if Caz's sacrifice was worth it or not. Can a big explosion really put an end to eldritch entity beyond our understanding? This is like if The Thing was set in the middle of the ocean, and it's great.
I'm genuinely speechless after watching this entire gameplay. What an _incredible_ game, just a fantastic experience through and through. It truly was Alien: Isolation meets Annihilation but for some reason it's on an oil rig... Everything about this was brilliant, the voice acting, the graphics, everything was just top notch. I do somewhat wish the story was a little more expanded on but that's ultimately the trade-off when it comes to cosmic horror, you have to fill some of the blanks yourself, and that's the beauty of it. Thank you so much for playing this game, I loved every second of it. Huge kudos to the devs.
I don't think I've ever seen a game that flowed so naturally. Everything you were put through felt genuine to if you were in that situation. Just watching you play it, I got attached to the characters. I got emotional at parts. Cried at Roy's death and cried at the end. This game was truly just a playable horror movie. It was beautifully amazing and well made
Just love the small detail of Caz giving away his lighter saying he doesn't need it anymore, till it was given back to him in the end to blow everything up.
The subtitles are so unnecessarily aggressive, they even translate "aye" to yeah" lmao. The team did a great job casting VAs that had accents that were accurate and believable, but also clear and understandable for us stupid 'Murricans. I've heard people with these accents that speak only in vowel sounds and apostrophes, truly a mysterious dialect, but these actors are really sharp!
I personally am thankful for the subtitles, as I'm neither English nor Scottish (non-native English-user), and the subtitles help immensely on understanding everything that was being said. They could've done word-for-word subtitle according to everything being said, but I'm gonna need to Google every now and then for them. English is worldwide, and the game developers surely helped people get to know a little bit more about what Scottish English sounds like. I love what they did.
I appreciated the translation as it was. English is not my first language and I barely understood what these guys were saying lol. I have a hard time understanding British English. Scottish English is a beast of its own.
This was my second time watching a playthrough of this game, and let me tell you.. it was heartbreaking knowing what was going to happen to all these characters . Every time I heard a name, I'd immediately remember exactly what happened to them, and the fact was they were doomed from the very beginning they all had false hope that they'd be saved or at least not become one of those things but it was inevitable all they could do was delay the inevitable.. everyone ends up calling us lucky for surviving as long as we did, but that just isn't true... sure we died a hero, but we saw the end of everyone's story, and this one ended with our own. we saw what became of everyone we knew everyone we didn't everyone we learned to care for and even some we straight up hated which is just devastating when you look at it all like jeez this was a great game story wise and it definitely felt scary like imagining that you made it that far and watched everyone die just to know that you'd have to die in order to save your loved ones who you'll never get the chance to say goodbye to.. that's the most terrifying part of it, and I loved how they made this game, and I'll alway cherish it ❤
This is one of the games where no one really was the enemy. The alien or whatever it is just feeds and infects the people and rig, controlling those who turned into monsters. So even when Caz got chased by them I only felt fear of him getting caught but mostly just felt sad that the crews were suffering from turning into monsters. And the ending is just twice as sad. The realization that no one is going to survive and escape the rig even Caz broke my heart. Honestly i was expecting a twist at the end where a rescue chopper would fly by and save him at the last moment. The moment it showed him in his bedroom I teared up and my heart broke again when he opened the door and there's just the sea. What's making it even more sad is that the sea he saw was raging and violent, unlike the ones that Brodie described before his death which is calm and clear. Makes me think that even though Caz accepted his defeat in the end, it was in fact a tough decision for him. It's just sad from the beginning until the end, honestly.
this game’s dialogue and voice acting was so raw and natural. i felt like i was caz watching this, i felt all of his emotions i felt like i was caz. it’s insane how well a game can tell a story. amazing game i’m really hoping for a follow up to this game, anything.
I bursted into real tears at the end dude, it’s not even jokingly, I’m so serious. It slowly got more and more depressing, the story is so well written, from this character’s point of view at least. I truly hope there’s more to this.
I have to admit after 2 hours right now, that I like Caz. Not cause of how Ryan plays him but he's got some dang common sense to realize why the heck is he doing all of this alone!? Can't someone else do it?? 🤣 I just find it funny. Also thanks for the longer video Ryan! 💛
I loved his personality so much too. And I also liked that sometimes they had excuses to why he couldn’t just sit there and hide for a while lol. He’s just such a great protagonist and, honestly really unrealistic. He literally tried to save EVERYBODY he could no matter what. He was charismatic and a literal hero while just being a normal guy. We don’t see many normal guys in games now.
this has been a fire game. the dialogue, the mystery not being revealed, just cosmic horror, deep awful horror with no explenation. brilliant writing. the characters felt very real.
I just finished this game last night and this game would have been a great book to read. Like most Lovecraftian tales, they found something that was never meant to be found and saw things no man was meant to see. The ending was the only was to save the world from that unknowable thing.
This really does remind me of The Thing. Stuck in an isolated place in the middle of nowhere with a shape shifting/absorbing alien that broke free because of the humans doing their job. I wouldn’t be surprised if this took inspiration from that movie. And if they did, my god, they did a fantastic job at making it work. Such a beautiful yet horrifying game with a good story. 12/10. ❤
Very very creepy and stressful game! And comments are right, the dialogue feels natural and realistic, it immerses us, I love it. Mid and major spoilers: What makes those monsters so creepy for me is that they are not mindless creatures out to get you, but they are corrupted and mutated humans. They still have their memories and personnalities, but they are now angry and can't seem to fight that corruption. It made it so uncomfortable, you feel for those people. Also, the silence from Caz when Finnlay called him after Roy died,... Ugh... It's painful. Brought me to tears. Thanks for playing it! It was incredible
This is one of the best horror experience I've witnessed in a while. It makes it feel like I was watching along a movie, and that's not something you usually want to experience with your game.
I think that one of the theories is that caz died on the oil rig due to a working accident and that this is his purgatory, to prove himself worth of heaven, this terrifying experience is like a punishment for what he did but not eternal.
1:04:31 When he means no running, it means NO RUNNING (Innes said he froze when he was heard and didn’t get hurt and he’s basically a Clicker from Last of Us
not sure if anyone noticed, but you give Finlay your lighter at the very beginning of the game, and Finlay gives it back at the very end, I absolutely love that!
This game had such a top tier voice acting. Sounded very natural and the accent made it even better, the story is so sad though but damn. Such a great game, props to the developers for making this amazing game
Shout out from Aberdeen/ Aberdeenshire! This game is absolutely beautiful, I love the Lovecraftian and Soma-esc feeling of this game. And the interpersonal relations of the npcs are some of the best i've seen in a video game! This is definitely coming from a real oil rig worker, the details are insane!
wow.. bro just wow.. This was so damn fun to watch and exciting especially because ryan is playing it. Feels like the whole time me and ryan were actually in this together trying to save ourselves and others but sadly in the end nobody made it alive. This game really made it feel like me and ryan were actually with them experiencing the horrible experience together. Felt like I had a bond with those characters bro like a strong one as if I knew them for along time and them dying in front of me was just heartbreaking. This game was absolutely top tier.
this reminds me of the movie “The Thing” where a crew of people discover an alien that distorts your body if it consumes you, basically it’s the main reference for among us
just finished watching the entire video and holy CRAP. i genuinely didn't expect this game to end so tragically, thought it was gonna just remain scary throughout the entire thing! heartbroken by this in the BEST way possible
I love games that go for sadder endings that at times make the game feel more realistic rather than purposely make it a good ending, but I really did have wished that after the explosion, the creature unintentionally blocked the explosion from Caz in a way of it trying to protect itself and after hearing Susan's words, Caz would've had a big rush of adrenaline to return home to his wife and kids.
i recently went through a traumatic event and what got me through it was your videos, ryan, you are the funniest person ive ever seen on this platform and by far my favorite youtuber
When i was watching this just take the fact of how disturbing it is to have your friends turned into hideous monsters. The part that creeped me out the most was Caz was getting chased by gibbo he was saying"No,dont look at me!" That terrified me to the point I felt nauseous.
I have a fear of heights and I can't swim, so the edges/underside of an oil rig are like nightmare fuel for me 💀. I'm still impressed with how awesome this game was. Everyone felt like you were having a conversation with real people. The only complaint I've seen is to do with the "yellow paint" but I feel like it makes the most sense to have it here. An oil rig would need important parts of the environment to stand out. :p
That was a wild experience. This game is really well done and i love how fluid the voice acting is. This game is almost too much for me in terms of how natural and realistic everything feels and because of that, from the last 1 hour of the video my vivid imagination makes me terrified of the possibility of such a creature existing in real life somewhere and imagining all the horrible insanity inducing things that could happen to the body. That is prolly my biggest fear since my brain thinks this is possible lol. ngl i was kinda happy when the immersion was a little breaking at some points haha. But damn it was great.
THANK YOU! I had been searching for the poem (1:55:15) and just absolutely could not find any version of a playthrough where someone stopped to read it (let alone just the normal poem on google!)
Oh damn! I saw the trailer for this the other day! It's way better than I initially anticipated! Plus love how it's very Scotland centric, we don't get enough of those! And this is coming from an Englishman! Love you fellow Brits :)
i don't normally comment but this game is just so cool, from the the voice acting to the graphics. the game devs really did do a great job with this, thanks for playing this ryan! =)
Finlay is such a great side character. She was the first/second character we met, stayed until the very end and the lighter we gave her at the beginning would become the key to the end.
Reminds me of resident evil village but on a boat Also Ethan and caz kinda died the same way both fathers that went to the belly of the beast and sacrificed themselves but the difference is caz is still alive
This game is amazing! The people are so genuine in there talks and speech, and the ending, its perfectly intertwined with the story and all thats happening. Everyone on the rig was so desperate to escape and go home, but whatever that monster was wasn't going to let them escape. What a game!
I wonder what happened with the helicopter. At 1:07:12 we can see that they take off, but the mysteriously turn around and head back. Maybe to get Caz? I'm not so sure. Because when it flies back it starts careening out of control shortly before the helipad. Which is odd since there doesn't seem to be anything physically affecting it. My best guess is that either Rennick did something stupid and caused Archie to lose control. Second best is that maybe the creature exerted some minor mind manipulation on him and kept him from leaving? Or telekinesis? We can see it's tail swinging one way and the other so I'm a bit at a loss. Idk. Either way that copter is in surprisingly good shape at 1:17:21 given the explosion we saw earlier. That aside, this is an amazing game. We need to support more projects with this level of quality and soul in them. Actually good stories have been a bit scarce in the gaming realm as of late.
I think archie and/or rennik was infected and started to turn as the heli began to fly away. it's possible the creature exerted further strain on them when they started to get farther away, but either way, even when it first turns back, it's not completely under control. I remember thinking as I watched it "stop being excited and run, that things gonna crash"
It could be a reference from the Thing, in one of the movies a bunch of survivors went into a van to escape..but one of them was infected, which caused a panic and ended with the van crashing and exploding.
Honestly with the amount of fuckery this... creature, was causing on the rig, I wouldn't be surprised that it somehow prevented things from leaving its premises. Which is dreadful to think about because it implies none of them ever had a chance of escaping the rig.
I genuinely appreciate that Ryan makes longer videos, and I’m always impressed when they’re an hour or more! And ever though Ryan posts almost daily, I’m glad he still seemingly takes time for himself (days with no posts feel like that, and I hope that’s what they are) Can’t wait to spend the rest of my afternoon at work watching this (don’t worry, I’ve finished all my tasks and now essentially have to sit there for 3 hours)
I beat this game in one night i was to hooked on it i couldnt stop and this game really does make you feel for caz the amount of things caz goes through its like your emotions connect with the game
havent had to stop watchin a playthrough to buy a game in a hot minute, but this looks so amazing i have to give it a shot. thanks for puttin this on my feed, ryan!

The recognition, fondness, and grief of Caz seeing every individual, turning them from just a body to Someone He Knew. this game is incredibly humanizing, for how the entity tried to "unhuman" them.

I don't think I've seen a game that truly makes people feel like people to this extent in a long time. The dialog really flows naturally I love it
Helps that the main character has a lot of sass
Reminds me of Amnesia: The Bunker a little; while there wasn't as much live dialogue in that, all the depictions of people in a war felt so real it made me feel sad, but it also made me feel like such a small person in such a big world instead of the typical main character, which is good for the setting.
Eh

The fact that Caz gives Finley his lighter at the beginning and then she gives it back to him in the end to destroy the rig and cosmic horror..what a crazy full circle moment. I could hear this dialogue all day. It feels so natural. And even with all the variations of the Scottish accent in terms of thickness you can still hear them clearly. Absolutely hilarious.
The accent, the natural dialogue, and the setting is definitely the selling point of this game
The voice acting is absolutely beautiful and captures the character's emotions so well. Absolutely breathtaking!
Made sense to why they want the accent to be as real as possible. The setting does tied to the actual British history at that time!

The screams of horror and pain are so real sounding, that honestly is the scariest part of the game to me. Just the genuine torture that all the “monsters” are in
Those “WHY IS NO ONE HELPING ME?” and “I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY FRIENDS” lines were so well delivered. The voice acting in this game is near perfect
This.
The most heartbreaking line for me was Muir yelling “I’m all alone”… what a horrible fate, this is the saddest horror game I’ve ever seen

SWEET HOME MENTIONED!!! i agree with you so much!
This felt like Firewatch with how story rich it was, it was super similar in story and the one difference was you interacted with others the entire game, although in this game you slowly lost each person, which is more similar to a game like outer wilds in which there is a time loop after a supernova happens, which makes you wake up at the beginning of the game, and im not gonna spoil it but just know it is super emotional.
that whole ending sequence, even starting with roper, was brutal.
@@Ahnock Indeed
Sad about Roy, but all things considered, diabetes is definitely the best way to go out on that rig
To paraphrase Secondhand Lions, "Dying's easy. Living's hard!"
Same man… same.
@@Broken_Everlark7 My guy aren't they not gonna hear over the news that a ginormous oil rig just disappeared and sank down to the bottom of the ocean or is the company making the oil rig not that well-known at all?

I truly believe this story is inspired by oil rig tragedies in general. If you get rid of the supernatural occurrences, the story can very much happen in real life. It’s a good reason why it’s a good horror setting to many short stories. It sucks that no one will ever know what will happen and even if the company finds out that they’re gone they probably won’t tell the families since they don’t want to deal with lawsuits or compensation to the families.
Cosmic/eldritch horror is not supernatural, it is the horror of an indifferent reality being far stranger and more horrifying than one has the capacity to understand.

Alot or the ocean has been discovered by drones and such, just not by actual people
90% of the ocean is unexplored because there isn’t anything interesting there.
Im pretty sure currently 20% of the ocean has been exploree via drones
we will never be certain, the sea/ocean is just too big.
If you listen closely to the monsters gurgles you’ll often hear “help me” or “stop running” or “I’m in pain” idk if it’s just me.

This game shows how far good voice acting can get you. I got so emotionally attached to the characters so fast because they felt like actual people
I normally don't comment but god this game seriously moved me i just had to write this.

Nothing "mysterious" about it!
Just listen to more Scottish people. Like any particularly strong accent you get used to it and understand it better the more you hear it.
Aside from that, I agree with you, the VAs done an amazing job throughout the game, including all side characters!

I loved his personality so much too. And I also liked that sometimes they had excuses to why he couldn’t just sit there and hide for a while lol. Hey at least he didn't explode
I think that one of the theories is that caz died on the oil rig due to a working accident and that this is his purgatory, to prove himself worth of heaven, this terrifying experience is like a punishment for what he did but not eternal.

When he means no running, it means NO RUNNING (Innes said he froze when he was heard and didn’t get hurt and he’s basically a Clicker from Last of Us
He's trying to warn his friends even as he's after them.
@@MillieBlackRose yep
@@Maklop-102 I never thought of that. That's horrifying.
not sure if anyone noticed, but you give Finlay your lighter at the very beginning of the game, and Finlay gives it back at the very end, I absolutely love that!
The second installation of the Ryan movies, first was Crow Country, now Still Wakes The Deep!🥳
This game was absolutely top tier.
this reminds me of the movie “The Thing” where a crew of people discover an alien that distorts your body if it consumes you, basically it’s the main reference for among us
Is that the one which starts with the dog in the antarctic
@@Rockmedal277 yea
I'm currently staying home from work sick and watching this. It's comforting- thank you for this ♥️
just finished watching the entire video and holy CRAP. i genuinely didn't expect this game to end so tragically, thought it was gonna just remain scary throughout the entire thing!
heartbroken by this in the BEST way possible
The dialogue is wonderfully human, so natural. Beautiful work from the voice actors.
Ryan scratching his beard is just a CLASSIC that shows he is sensing something scary in his insides
Bro this like a interactive movie and Ryan is the main character having like a out of body experience, keep it up brother
"Finlay is stuck till she gets by Rennick" I feel like that could lead to a DLC showing Finlay's story.
Get your snacks ready!! 3 hours of pure Ryan and his horror games!!
The dude in the compression chamber: depending on what depth he was at, opening that before taking a slow decompression could just flat out kill him
i don't normally comment but this game is just so cool, from the the voice acting to the graphics. the game devs really did do a great job with this, thanks for playing this ryan! =)
Finlay is such a great side character. She was the first/second character we met, stayed until the very end and the lighter we gave her at the beginning would become the key to the end.
Reminds me of resident evil village but on a boat
Also Ethan and caz kinda died the same way both fathers that went to the belly of the beast and sacrificed themselves but the difference is caz is still alive
Nvm my mistake Caz died so it’s the same as resident evil village

This game is amazing! The people are so genuine in there talks and speech, and the ending, its perfectly intertwined with the story and all thats happening. Everyone on the rig was so desperate to escape and go home, but whatever that monster was wasn't going to let them escape. What a game!
Dang another 3 hour Movie! I better grab so Dew and snack mix. You're awesome Ryan thanks for the awesome video!
oh, this gives me such strong SOMA vibes. the characters all feel and speak so, so real, the VAs and writers did a FANTASTIC job
The game was a tearjerker, despite the bugs, it was a truly captivating watch and the story had me on the brink of tears.
It looked more like the copter was tossed back by how it out of control
@@sanityweeb6594 Possible. Idk that we're going to get a definitive answer short of the devs telling us unfortunately.
And ever though Ryan posts almost daily, I’m glad he still seemingly takes time for himself (days with no posts feel like that, and I hope that’s what they are)
Can’t wait to spend the rest of my afternoon at work watching this (don’t worry, I’ve finished all my tasks and now essentially have to sit there for 3 hours)
Demoman gonna be traumatized when he works on oil rig😭
57:30 WHILE A LITERAL PEICE OF FLESH STEALS A MAN RYAN'S LIKE: "Dobbie ? Master is gonna be upset" i love this man
I beat this game in one night i was to hooked on it i couldnt stop and this game really does make you feel for caz the amount of things caz goes through its like your emotions connect with the game
havent had to stop watchin a playthrough to buy a game in a hot minute, but this looks so amazing i have to give it a shot. thanks for puttin this on my feed, ryan!
as a scottish lad like myself. the voice acting of the game is just brillient. also keep up the good work ryan. you work really hard on every video ya do ^^ we all appricate your hard work and dedication to all of them :3
