Wouldn't feel like new year without the metal tag questions I only bought one new release last year it was all about picking up used cds in 2023 got all the helloween albums I wanted and started filling in the holes in my blind guardian collection I am looking forward to the new priest though and the new saxon liking the new haircut as well mate!

Good answers there Mike, interesting to hear your reasons for choosing them. Yeah that question about bands being relevant is a tough one. I guess Metallica or Maiden is probably going to be as good as it gets, there's been no longevity from any bands from the 90s. Slipknot are perhaps the only one who comes close.
And so begins another round of the metal tag. I think some of those questions might be a little easier to answer if taken less literally, some good ones there though. Enjoyed your take on them none the less!

You were spot on with the relevancy question, I could not answer that one either. There is no band that has been around for that long and still be creatively relevant, lol. You know, earlier this year I was driving to work and along the road I saw two hippy-like hitchhikers. I drove past but I actually wanted to pick them up, and then I realized I was listening to that first Venom CD in the car. Wouldn't that have been an unforgettable ride if I did pick these guys up? Anyway, great watch mate.

I feel like Avenged Sevenfold was the last relevant metal band - and that was the early 2010s. They were very popular with the kids, they had an (somewhat) unique sound, they were selling out arenas... After them, Ghost became the new big thing but they were just rehashing 70s hippie rock. I follow quite a few new bands but they are just underground rock/metal bands, practically unknown to the mainstream audiences.
Yeah I've heard a song or two of Ghost but not my thing. I think I've got quite enough for my remaining years tbh lol. I've got no desire for modern bands.
You said you were looking for something new my friend? and I believe I could have a newer group for you. I've recently discovered a group from the UK and you may not have heard of them? The group is SERMON and their Newest album which is only their 2nd. Release, was released in March of 2023 and it is called OF GOLDEN VERSE. I've only recently discovered them a month ago but upon the first listen to the album I was really blown away by it. And had to order it. And that is very rare that I ever do that personally. It is fresh and different and heavy at times. The drummer is amazing! his name is James Stewart and he does an incredible! Job on drums. I think you will be amazed at the drumming work alone. The vocals sound similar to Tool but heavier. This album was on a few 2023 top ten list on TH-cam I've noticed. so I decided to checked them out. This group has come out of nowhere for me and I can definitely say that I Will be following them on any future releases. You can listen to the album OF GOLDEN VERSE on TH-cam. So please sit back and relax and give it a really good/fair listen and be prepared to be hopefully? blown away like it done to me. Because I very highly recommend this album to you and any other person looking for something new and very powerful Metal music. Thanks for stopping by and the recommendation dude. I've got it on now. It's like definitely got a Tool vibe to it, it's a bit like a lighter rock version of Neurosis too. I can see why people will be into them certainly. I'm going to tell my mate about them. They might be up his street. They're a bit melodic vocally for me and it's sort of in the rock style rather than metal but I'm delighted you have discovered something you love.

A guy at work has a 12 or 13-year-old kid who plays bedroom guitar every day and digs everything Metallica do. It's kinda sad to have some old farts as idols at such a young age. This year I bought lots of reissues and what I thought to be the only 2023 record turned out to be a 2022 release so no top 2023 albums for me yet. The latest Hitten album is so catchy and well done that it's almost a guilty pleasure for me since I never was much of a glam metal fan. I'm curious what you think about Hitten - While Passion Lasts.
