I’m kind of glad that Apple still keeps their older phones supported like the X, XR and 11 series. Because you have people who want to get a iPhone but don’t have the money to get the newest phones like the 14 & 14 Pro Max and then it’s the fact they support their phones with iOS updates for a long and that’s awesome. I have a older phone myself that I got in 2021 (a iPhone 11) and it’s a pretty solid phone and I’m really liking it so far, the next phone I plan on getting next is going to be a 13 Pro Max.

I upgraded from the iPhone X to the 12 Pro Max mostly for the larger display and larger battery, and somewhat for the camera improvements like Night Mode. Plus, I tend to upgrade every few years anyhow. I’m very happy with my 12 Pro Max, though, and might keep it a bit longer than 3 years.
I use my phone for most things, including mobile games, some with near console quality graphics like CoD Mobile, Genshen Impact, PubG Mobile, Roblox and others.
Were it not for games and watching videos, I’d probably still be using the iPhone X because it was meeting most of my needs otherwise.
But I only have my iPhone for personal stuff and one small Windows laptop for work (company laptop).
      Soooo.
I think my 12 Pro Max will still be big enough and powerful enough for another year or two, but I might need a new battery within the next year (if I keep it).
Actually, it’ll def be big enough, lol, as I don’t think I’d get anything larger (phone-wise) than the 6.7” Pro Max. I don’t think Apple would make the iPhone much bigger than this anyhow. And anything bigger than the current Pro Max would just be too big, too heavy. It took me a couple weeks to get used to the 12 Pro Max and I ALMOST returned it in the first 7 days as it was a lot heavier and bulkier than I expected.
But, in the end, glad I kept it! 😂

iPhone 11 might have new software updates etc. But it still doesn't come close to the s10 plus or S10 5G by Samsung, arguably one of the best android series ever made in the history of smartphones. Even the iPhone 11 series feels laggy in comparison to the S10 series.
Not to forget, Apple iOS gesture-based navigation was inspired by BB10 OS, if BlackBerry didn't bring that on, with major phone reviewers saying it was way better than using the touch ID-based navigation button, Apple would have remained bent on Touch ID and wouldn't have considered Face ID. 😂
I also love the fact that Samsung pulled inspiration from BlackBerry 10 OS as well, in the lock screen notification 🔔 area.
Guess what? BlackBerry could have stolen the whole market and still can do so in my perspective, the BlackBerry logo can not be mistaken any time - any day. If they took ram/battery mah bumping up seriously, improve on-camera software and hardware, utilize the latest flagship processor, or opt for their unique in-house powerful processor and further polish their ui it would have grown on the world by now, it such a shame it died the way it did.
Hey, I am not labeling Apple a copycat or Samsung either, what I am trying to say is that sometimes, you need the inspiration to forge ahead.I remembered vividly when BlackBerry Z30 came out, I had one, before that I have owned previously a BlackBerry Z10, Q10, Q5, bold series, and curve series. To my surprise no one liked the gesture based navigation (my friends who uses an Apple iOS or Android powered device), fast forward Apple adopted it, introduced it with the iPhone X series and they fall in love with it.
The same people said they hate customization because Android (and some previous OS offered it), fast forward to the present day, they are all loving it, it is simply not because Apple did it better, it is simply because Apple did it.

I have an XS max right now and I was planning to upgrade once the iPhone 15 comes out next fall. I love the way this phone feels and I’ve found myself used to 3D Touch by now, the screen is good because it’s larger size which also gives it better battery life too because of the bigger battery inside compared to the normal XS. The downsides are the camera becoming more outdated and iOS being a bit laggy sometimes. Other than that this phone is still really solid even today and I could still see someone buying one as a budget phone for a year or two.

I got the 14 Pro coming from the iPhone 11 and don’t regret a thing. I am very curious what my experience would be moving to an iPhone X though. Compared to the iPhone 11 the display would be better, but smaller, and the cameras would be far worse in low-light situations. Main thing for me is I use the cameras on my iPhone all the time, and the 14 Pro offers so much more flexibility and the 48MP mode offers such amazing image quality. Not to mention I just love the 120Hz display.

My favorite was the IPhone 6s, I absolutely used it until it wasn’t useable anymore, and I remember everyone in college got the new iPhone X when it came out and in the iPhone world, it was a game changer! I had that 6s for a good 4 years, it went through some roughness and it impressed me with both performance, comfort from holding it and how it felt in my pocket, and with how much it survived. I upgraded to the XR i think in 2019 and had it for about 2 years and loved the price, a good transition for me from the home button to face ID, and had to upgrade to a 12 pro max when my xr fell in a pool at work. I recently upgraded to the 14 pro max, been 3 weeks now and i really enjoy it, but going from a 4s with the squared edges to the 6s, i fell inlove with the rounded edges and still miss it. The squared edges are ok, but to me personally, the rounded edges felt easier to hold, but im loving my 14 pro max so far!

i commented this as a response to someone else here but it applies as a standalone comment so i'll go ahead and post it here:
i'm a new iphone user, and since i'm not a person of money (yet) i could not afford a newer model, so i purchased a second-hand iphone x. really impressed with how NEW it looks and feels like even though it's second hand and a model that came out five/six years ago, and not one of the bests currently. it rarely lags, has a very decent camera, it's comfortable for my tiny hands (i'm only 1.51 m/5 ft tall so my hands are small), and more. my only complain would be the battery (but i understand that's a normal thing on iphones + this one doesn't have a battery in perfect condition) and still it lasts; and also having a social circle of android users, being the only one with lightning port is a bit inconvenient but that can be easily fixed by just bringing my own cable which occupies 0 space inside my bag. i'm impressed and i think i'll stay on this side of the fence for now. all of that thanks to a 2017 phone.
    adding:
design wise? the iphone x is beautiful. i liked the 11 as well and that was my dream phone (in lilac) but when i had the x in my hands, in this space grey color, i fell in love. it's not insanely big, it's pretty basic looking, soft around the edges, and i LOVE IT. as an artist with ever changing feelings, i love a blank canvas and i feel this is what my phone is. i can easily slip a phone case with a specific design over it and customize it (while protecting it) according to the way i feel: if i want something simple i can just put a silicone case or a clear one and that's it, and if i want something more elaborate or with a design i can just put on some of the cases i have.

i recently upgraded from a X to a 12pro (got it super cheap refurbished) and yea everything what you said. the x was amazing but it def had its flaws. i had it since launch so the already bad battery gotten a lot worse to a point it didn't even last for half a day. the camera was also just not that good. additionally i have to say it was bit slow in heavy use since it heated up super quickly and than thermal throttled. in normal use its still super fast tho, its incredible if u think about how old it is. (shows you how far we have gotten and that the need to upgrade kinda disappeared)
but also like u pointed out the shape was just better in the hand tho i do like the new designs visually more. (interested how it will evolve in the next one)
i was planning to buy the 13 but that was just not enough reason to upgrade when it was new and the same goes for the 14, especially with the huge price increase. (here in Germany the pro models went from 1000€ which already was expensive, to now 1300€ with the 14pro. not even talking about the massive inflation over the last year) no thank you!
so 12pro it is for now.
the 12 fixed most of my problems with my old one, much better cam and battery and faster on top. magsafe is actually really cool feature too, just missing 3d touch tho.
tbh I'm not sure if I will upgrade to the 16 or so except they really do something big. i was always someone that wanted the newest tech but man the differences between new models have just gotten so minuscule, while the prices just keep rising.

    • @h0tzera660

Yeah I recently made the switch from X to 14 Pro and besides cameras and battery life, the X still holds up, to the point where I almost didn't want to sell it. The big thing for me was Google Maps, though. On the X when using turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps I would get constant freezing. Like the whole phone would freeze up and become unresponsive for up to 20 seconds or so. I blame Google more than Apple for that, though. I think Drew uses Apple Maps (or Tesla built-in nav), so I doubt he'd come across this specific issue I had.

I still use a iPhone X & it works great. I usually keep my iPhones for 5 years, and that's after it been on the market for 2 years so I can get it at better price. So for me, a phones lifespan is about 7 years before it becomes unbearably slow. I plan on keeping this iPhone X at least until the fall of 2025, when the iPhone 15 releasing with USB-C has been out for 2 years as USB-C is actually something I want out of a new phone. Funny enough, I just bought an iPad 9 (2021) on sale this week after using an iPad Air (2013) which I purchased in 2015. Honestly, features are usually not a good enough reason for me to buy a new device, a slow device is what gets me. Planned obselocene is how they get me! I will say the feature that sold me was the concept of a smartphone with the original iPhone, the Retina display for the iPhone 4, larger display & Touch ID on the iPhone 6, Face ID, larger display, & lack of a button on the iPhone 10, and now USB-C on the iPhone 15.

8:28 I’ve had my iPhone X since basically day one and have the original battery in it, at 72% max capacity, still works fine, but does need to be charged regularly if used for more than a couple of hours, also I noticed a few years back that my iPhone speaker at full volume playing the day some as another iPhone X with newer/better battery that my sound was less, so I figure the iOS etc does something to stop full sound capability to help battery life.
Also when I charge and use the phone at half or more brightness it’ll auto dim my screen fully while charging with nothing I can do to change it till it decides, but also noticed the back/battery heating up big time, so another battery life saving thing. FYI I have had heavy use from the phone also, but with it no longer updating to the newest iOS I decided to get the 15 P M plus I went from the iPhone 5 to the X so a jump to 15 seemed perfectly fitting, with it being my fav number🤷🏼‍♂️. But having the new 15 and it’s lasting so long just feels a bit odd not needing to charge so often and with less use of my X it now last longer before it needs a charge, obviously lol.
But also didn’t notice the touch button difference nor the face unlock being possible from landscape on the 15 and not on the X even after having the 15 for 3weeks, thank you for that little mind blower 😅
I have never really wireless charged as I did once and it was slower than wire and made my phone heat up like nothing before while in lock mode, side note I also have auto lock off, and always have it in a 360 case for protection, but I never getting to see the beauty off it is a downside, but would be a lot worse off if I hadn’t.
I find the camera is a very good one until you see anything basically better thus compared to my new 15 it’s crap but it’s still a decent camera in best settings and live mode helps.
To the chip with me having the original battery and it being highly degraded at 72% I have seen times it’s taken longer do stuff that it used to do like half a second faster, but unless you use a new X or newer iPhone I don’t think anyone would find the iPhone X slow or unresponsive.
As I said about my sound being reduced, I forgot to mention because of that I tend to hear the sound come more from the bottom/main speaker than I do the top one these days, there is still sound but to hear it over the main you have to put it to your ear, but again original battery at 72% this is why it’s bad. But I do remember the original sound was good and loud enough to hear doing most things, I,e you could still hear what you were watching or listening to at full volume while next to the kettle at half or more boil whereas now I cannot, but definitely a good phone to have, maybe less so for anyone that likes certain qualities like better/louder sounds, my 15 is so loud I have to keep it low most of the time, but I love the sound for when it’s needed, and for camera I like better, but for those less into such this is a perfect phone, or for those who want something they care less about breaking maybe or to give to someone younger.
