It's amazing how many people now are unaware of Kraftwerk and how 4 German engineers help lay down the foundations of Hip Hop, Techno and every kind of other modern electronic music that proceeded it
This was the exact episode I saw as a kid that made me excited to grow up and go dancing at the clubs. 😂💕 I also use to stay up I listen to the house mix on WJLB on Saturdays and dance all night in my room. It was fun. 💕💕💕
Minimalist electronic music is perfect for break dancing due to it's slower BPM and short/stabby notes. Also wish shows like the New Dance Show would come back. Electronic music is for everyone!
Absolutely legendary footage. Detroit's heart and Soul dancefloor madness celebrates the Teutonic Cavaliers' masterpiece. German Electro reaching a new level; it's not by coincidence that Motor town itself was the quintessential place for the birth of Techno, and also for their futuristic funky version of Electro - through acts such as Cybotron, Drexciya, Dopplereffekt, Aux 88 et al. No matter how much you dig, there will always be new treasures in the light of the day. #DetroitTechnoCity #313
Detroit was not only dancing to them ten years earlier, they were remixing Kraftwerk into their own new form of techno. There was an episode of The Scene from February 1982 which featured a song called _Sharevari_ by A Number of Names. And you better believe people were getting *down*!
Love Kraftwerk. Listened to them as a young teen and now my 3 year old son loves them more than anything else (‘Numbers’ even taught him to count in different languages!).
I saw Kraftwerk in April in New York, and for the last 10 minutes of the main part of the concert (of course there was an encore), it was basically "Ralf Hütter gives a shoutout to Detroit." Such a great show.
Some days ago...(I'm 49yo...I'm argentinian). In a party DJ put this record from 1981 and I started to breakdance it. This song and "Tour de France"'s Kraftwerk. My kids did not believe their eyes. Yes boys: Your dad used to dance. Something you dont do on these times...
Love this video ...it takes me all the way back.... The scene was all we had, besides soul Train.... Love growing up with dancing was so cool and we watch the scene and soul train for the latest dances moves ...💜💜💜
back in the day my friends and I used to joking say that in the future we would say " now that Toni Tony Tone that was good music". little did we know that would become a true statement.
The first time Kraftwerk played the D, was in 1975. I was three. The theater in my picture...Then called Showcase Theater. Not long after, James Brown would play it for five nights straight! It basically killed the spot. In the later 90's I played the ballroom, upstairs. Eastown and GET DOWN!!! ❤
In theory ' 1 2 3 4 ' in Japanese : 一 , 二 , 三 , 八 , [ Ichi Ni San Chi ] On the other hand ' 4 ' in Japanese = 四 [ Yom ] - So I'm not sure about the last word . If anyone can't believe this , check it in Google Translate !
Many characters have multiple "readings", often with a native Japanese reading and a Chinese one. Or more than one of each. '八' (hachi) means 8, though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanji#Readings en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_numerals
Yes, it means 1, 2, 3 ,4 but... it would not be a good thing to say it like this in Japanese as Shi is also associated with Shindemasu (death) in the culture, despite the different kanji (characters; Shindemasu = 死んでます). So, the tune really should have said "Ichi, Ni, San, Yon". But who knows, maybe what Kraftwerk wanted to convey was that they were pretty mean guys you should not mess with, (badass). So, in that case ... yeah, "Ichi, Ni, San, Shi" is ok in this case I guess.
Northend down, this shit was so great looking back make you appreciate looking forward. Thankful for having a show like The New Dance Show, love ❤️ you guys forever.
People these days forget that the original Techno Scene was about Dancing - proper fxxxxng dancing as alternative to the crack/hip hop BS of the late 80's-90's - man imagine the buzz of doing your thing in that line - Detroit 4ever
@@Caprice87 not me darling im probably only white guy in south wales who gets the afro-futurism feel but then again i think im a black lol - speedcore in 2020 but its still black music too me - respect caprice87
Yeah this is why I'm here honestly. I remember this show growing up in Hamtramck (right in the middle of Detroit) and I know that Kraftwerk was a heavy influence on Techno music which started in Detroit. They were/are the Godfathers of electronic music. RIP Florian.
Es interesante como un sonido originado en Alemania se reinterpreto y dió nueva forma en detroit para después regresar a Alemania (Berlín) y esparcirse por el mundo.
Black America and Kraftwerk go together like peanut butter and jelly!
All facts!!! Goes together like a hamburger and a bun
It’s like German engineering and the fuc*** soul of Detroit. I love this shit since. Love ❤️ from Germany 🇩🇪
💯

If this clip is from 1991 , then the song is 10 years old by then. Still they got down. Thanks for sharing.

It's 39 years old now and still a choon
They were actually dancing to a then newly released recording of the song that was released on The Mix.
Detroit was not only dancing to them ten years earlier, they were remixing Kraftwerk into their own new form of techno. There was an episode of The Scene from February 1982 which featured a song called _Sharevari_ by A Number of Names. And you better believe people were getting *down*!

i remember those new dance shows always looked like a wedding banquet with all the in-laws raving around after the dessert that was so awsome.
I doubt some of these outfits would be worn at a wedding banquet. LOL
For two minutes and 45 seconds humanity achieved perfection as a species. We stared into the sun, then blinked and turned away.
