I went to my family reunion and was in a dance contest and no one knew any of the dances I was doing. They all came from watching this show. My family always wanted me to dance just because they wanted to see what new dances they were doing in Detroit 😂
I'm a white guy, class of 1980, warren cousino. I dated a girl in 1982 and she had me watch this at 6pm, was instantly hooked. Loved it, Mr Nat Morris you influenced so many and brought fun into our homes. Thank you sir!
Man this brings back memories, nobody in the country parties like Detroit and the early 80s were the epitome of Detroit partying with the Scene setting the tone. I truly hope a movie or documentary gets made about the Scene so the whole country can see what was going down in the D!
I was 13 years old in the *✦7th GRADE✦* when this aired and was in Beaubien Middle school located on Wyoming and Pembroke. Now Im 55 years old🤔 I don't live in Detroit anymore but this brings back memories. I graduated from Mumford in 1986

That song was soooooo popular in the L.A. area. At that time you could only hear it on the only 2 AM and 2 FM radio stations that played black music. It was very much segregated. Some of couldn't even listen to any of those stations because we were in the valley or too far away to receive that bandwidth. So early 80s funk was very much underground and it was exciting to listen to those radio stations whenever we could. This program played the entire songs, unlike Soul Train which always frustrated me when they cut off the songs. I was 15 when this song was released in late 1981, so I couldn't just go to a record store and buy tapes or records. Unlike today, you'd never hear many songs once they stopped being popular. No internet back then. But early 80s until about late 1983 was the epitome of the best funk there ever was.
I can remember being in high school and The Scene dancers were stars! Seeing some of them downtown at the festival in hart plaza!! Being super happy when someone from your school made it on camera!!
What's happening everybody definitely bringing back the memories of yesteryear I'm loving it I'm honored to be apart of those days much-loved everybody💕💕💕
Loved this show so much. I'd put it on right after dinner and my dad would say "what are you doing? I'd say changing the channel. It's 6 o'clock and it's time to rock." He'd just roll his eyes lol. Best dancers and loved watching.
Chaz Jankel's Glad to Know Ya is STILL the jam! Can't ever go wrong with D-Train! I may have been a wee child when this aired but I remember my older sister loving this show! Thank you Mr. Morris! ❤
"ARE YOU READY TO THROW DOWN?" "YESSS WE ARE!" I knew what time it was when I heard my granny watching this show at 6pm and I would run to the den to watch it with her. My granny loved music and loved watching the younger generation get down, for she was a dancer when she was young. My older cousin and her best friend got the opportunity to dance on this show a few years later in "87", and it was so exciting as a child to see them on T.V.! This generation here was so fly and classy that everyone of all ages enjoyed their talents, much different than today's generation of popular musical talents in America, it's just not suitable for the majority. However, I'm glad to have this as a memory of Detroit city, back when it was full of fashion, music, dance, and good times!
Just found this, used to watch this as a kid. I remember Fast Freddy, don’t see him here. Left Detroit in the 90s & the beings back memories. Wish I still had Mojo’s sets on tape too.
Best white guy dancer from the 80s here ! I stand by that statement. And I watched all these shows. And soul train that’s how you get the moves and practiced back then.
I ABSOLUTELY love this video, brings back fond memories as a kid growing up in the D, watching the scene on channel 62, I can’t believe I still remember that…lol
Although I'm not from Detroit, this is reminiscent of how we moved, in DMV, or all over the country for that matter, during the 80s. Hairstyles, the fashion. the dance moves. I'm so glad I found this channel.
While I was working at Canadian Top 40 radio station CHYR in the early 80s about 40 minutes from Windsor,I got a call from Nat Morris Scene producer RJ Watkins who left a message looking for a host of a show based out of Windsor. Trying to expand The Scene's reach into Canada. Unfortunately we werent able to take it any further..im sure it would have been great weekly fun. Enjoyed The Scene every night on 62.
Sorry, but gotta disagree. Politics are present in everything. Always has been. The music and dance is politics too! People confuse politics with agendas and having to think too much. They just want fun. Please change this. Because given the first opportunity, people who hate us Black people are looking at how to stop this music and dancing and fun!
Wow...seeing my high school crush all over again bring back that crush again 40yrs later. Shouts out to Andrea McGinnis (Osborn High School)...where are you???
*Are you ready to throw down* ? YES, WE ARE!!!!! EAST SIDE TIL I DIE!!! GEEK GEEK THROW DOWN!! My cousin and I auditioned for The Scene in '84. Man, I was still a kid saying "I can't wait until I grow up" and now I wish I could go back lol. OMG!!! Takes me back to my senior year of high school in Detroit (1981-82).
I remember coming home from Notre Dame High School in the late 80s and the Scene would come on in the late afternoon. Love the music.
The 1980’s were absolutely amazing!❤️

Great era for D-Train an others. The vibe hooked on these beats for ever...
My childhood right here! Detroit 1980s culture. It was a MUST that the TV has to be turned to channel 62 @ 6:00pm M-F.
I like their spin on the soultrain line.
Yes, it's very clever and different enough where it didn't infringe on the Soul Train Line.
Soul train was the bomb

Wow this really put things into perspective for me. I assumed stuff like this was mainstream back in it's day but now I realize how it was.
On the East coast, specifically the Tri-State area,it was "black radio" mainstream back then.
Man this was and still is my Jam!!!
This song was certainly Mainstream in Detroit, MI. funk everywhere!!
