I've been living in my SUV for almost 3 years too. Before I began, I searched TH-cam for "how to live in your car" and I got quite an education! I learned the basics and finally got the courage to start. It was the best thing I've ever done and I should have done it years ago!
Even though I can afford to live in a Bricks and Sticks, I'll never go back!
    This is an AWSOME Lifestyle!
My income goes to experiences over possessions and I've embraced a Minimalistic Mindset...
I've never been happier in my entire life and I hope that you're finding your happiness too.

@@JoshuaBates01 It's changed my life beyond my wildest dreams! It's allowed me to become debt free and now I can afford to vacation and live like a King!
      Just Do the math...
What could you do without all that money going to rent or mortgage, utilities, taxes, and all of the other expenses of living in a house or apartment.
And the stress now just rolls off my shoulders...
For what it's worth, I was afraid to get started too...But that lasted only a week or so and I've been happily ever after since then...
But you'll never know until you try.

I mostly put the word “homeless” in the title because of the TH-cam algorithm. In reality you still definitely could say I am homeless. Unless I got rid of the car there’s no way I could afford rent. Besides cheap half-way houses I’ve literally never been able to afford my own place before.

I'm living like this since June 23rd and I don't find it exciting. It's not on purpose. If it was fall right now, I might be more ok. Right now I'm aggravated, using AC and buying gas. I'm also in college. I have a full-time job and a part-time job, and still have trouble finding a place. It gets really cold in NY, so I can't do this during winter.

My prayers go out to you and your husband.
Might I suggest that you look at your situation from a different angle like I did. I consider myself "Houseless not Homeless". And I'm currently on the "Greatest Adventure of my Life"! And take some time to look up Bob Well's Cheap RV Living. His entire TH-cam channel is dedicated to teaching people like us the ropes of living a successful mobile lifestyle. I also recommend reading some of Dave Ramsey's books on Money Management. Once you leave all those nasty bills and debt behind, you're going to need to know how to create lasting wealth with all that money you'll be saving! It's seriously going to Blow Your Mind, when you realize just how much you've spent on things you couldn't thoroughly enjoy.
And start planning that Hawaii Vacation now...I've gone a few times with the money I've saved! And a few months worth of Hot Summer electric bills saved buys a heck of a lot of RUM! Lol
Keep your head up and enjoy the Journey. We're all here to help and encourage you both. You are not alone...

      @rickcooper156 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Take a moment to look up and watch "Don't Buy a Couch" from Sailing Uma on TH-cam. They're a young couple who left the rat race behind to sail the world in a sailboat.
That video Don't Buy a Couch really helped me to see life differently and I hope you like it too...

I was homeless in my SUV for just about 3yrs, while I like to watch these types of vids to see how other people are doing it, that was after the fact. I was homeless, no phone, no laptop, no cooler or fridge. I was in my SUV because I was homeless. Not because I wanted to save money or go on an adventure. It was real homelessness. A lot of videos are just younger people out for adventure and travel, unless you have a job you can work remotely you are stuck in a certain area. Anyone who is actually homeless will tell you living in a car or SUV is the absolute worst thing in the world. Like I said most if these vids are people who can afford to get takeout everyday, go to the gym, keep clean, drive around the country and they are not really too worried about money and or anything else. It never got any easier, and I never enjoyed it. I was homeless and not by choice. These people that choose this make it look like it's a great way to live, they may show a few inconviences, but if you are actually homeless and not by your own choice, it's FN horrible. I was hellbent on getting out of being homeless and living in my car, and I did, and I'll never do it again...ever.

@@liveyurbliss yeah...it's funny as I look a little deeper into some of these videos that say "I'm homeless in my car, tips and tricks"...these people are not homeless, they always have family or friends they can go to do laundry, sleep in a bed or on a couch for a few days. I had no one, no family, no friends, and the reason for that is once you become homeless, no one wants anything to do with you. This is not an adventure for someone that is truly homeless. People putting out videos using cameras and laptops while drinking their Starbucks...YOU PEOPLE ARE NOT HOMELESS..YOU ARE ON VACATION...if you were you, would have sold that laptop and camera for food and or shelter, not keep it and make videos about how great being homeless is...I would tuck myself in a corner of the local library where I could use the computers to find odd jobs here and there..or read and take a nap..but it was safe, dry and had a bathroom and it was open 7 days a week, so I always had some sort of place to get out of the elements, at least until they closed. I'm just tired of these people making money off of pretending to be homeless. If they really knew they wouldn't be making videos, like you said they would be trying to survive day and night, not trying to figure out where the closest Starbucks is..be safe my friend...I know it's tough..if you need any tips or tricks let me know..I got the real ones for when your homeless in your car..God speed..(sorry for the rant, it just drives me nuts)..lol

@@run_rabbit-run9762 Yeah, I just drove to three different places trying to find a bathroom and almost didn’t make it and I know you know what that means.
It’s crazy because my father passed away in December and I am receiving an inheritance at the end of the month. I’ve reached out to various landlords and talked about my situation in order to get advice on how to proceed in getting an apartment and they all tell me that money isn’t enough.
Unless my credit is in the 700s, I have income three times the amount of rent and a solid rental history, I’m screwed.
The worst part is that I have two children that I’ve been living with my ex and they keep saying, “Mommy, when are you going to get a house so we can be with you?” They think that I’m living in a hotel. That’s more painful than any of the other things that I have to deal with.
I appreciate your response. Just knowing that I’m not alone in my situation is comforting. I’m sorry for whatever you’re going through and thank you for the support. I’ve gotten into a pretty solid routine and I have a nice sleeping spot for the moment but I’m so tired all of the time. Living this way isn’t sustainable long-term.
Van life people don’t realize that because, like you said, they usually have other choices and resources. Hope you’re well and again, I appreciate the support.

I’m currently living out of my car. My husband is in the national guard and ever sense the pandemic started he was placed in different cities throughout our state. So I found me a job as a caregiver and I have been working for the company for over 7 months. My husbands orders ended over 6 weeks ago and I wasn’t quite ready to go when I found out the news. I have been sleeping out of my car ever sense. I have a small Chevy Cruze. I work 6 days out of the week and the one day that I’m supposed to be off I always pick up shifts and I pick up extra shifts throughout the week at night time. I really don’t sleep in my car as much but when I do I sleep very comfortably☺️. The weather has been very nice chilly enough to sleep comfortable throughout the night. The gentleman that I take care of lives in a plantation near the beach. They have a marina which has a restroom w a shower that I have an access code for. The plantation also has a beach off the plantation and that place has a pool as well ass restrooms w showers that I also have the access code for. Honestly if I wasn’t married I wouldn’t mind this life style. Beats paying rent and my expenses are all very minimum. Perfect way to save money. I live in an apartment 3 hours away and when my husband left I literally only kept my work clothes w me and one pair of shoes and one pair of sandals for when I shower. I keep my clothes in stacks in my trunk for easy access. As well as small plastic containers to help me stay organized and keep things at easy access. I honestly may make a video just to share my story n my set up lol 😝

I’ve been living in a Nissan Altima 2012 for about 7 months I actually choose to live in my car because I like adventures road trips and car camping. I work every day overnight shifts so I have the entire day to drive around to places and I can take days off whenever I want so I’m enjoying it. No rent saving money sleeping on the blacktop it’s a great life. If your debating whether to try it out I’d say go for it

I am also starting a business, thats gonna be very interesting to see how that unfolds! If I become successful, I still will live in a vehicle and safe money until I can just pay cash for a house

Hey man. Recently stumbled upon a lot of these nomad videos. I had no idea so many people lived this life style While it seems sustainable when your in your younger years, lets say under 40, I think eventually your body, as it grows older, will need to go back to a more traditional way of living. I'm 50 years old, was a great college athlete back in my day, but nowadays I have so many aches/pains and nagging injuries, I could never live your life style. So I guess you should enjoy it while you can. Time catches up to all of us.

Van life/car life seem so appealing to me mainly because of all the rent money/home internet/home utilities and etc being saved but I have acquired so many personal possession and most of them are custom stuff that have rare or discontinued parts. I would put all my stuff in a storage unit but I don't know if I can trust a storage unit. Everything has it's pros and cons.

  • @Gimo76
    @Gimo76 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I just had my first Van trip. At 71 I won’t be full time but also don’t want to end my life in my recliner. Anyway, it was a disaster. My 5 gal water bottle was only held to the wall with a bungee cord so during the worst curvy road it would throw water here and there etc, it was pouring rain so had to hang stuff everywhere. Then my 12 V frig was plugged in wrong and was cooking hot. Who needs a huge frig that heats? Then the stove my son gave me I couldn’t get it to work. Then my 800watt Bluetti brand new went from 80% charge down to 30% and I didn’t have anything plugged in. I tried to charge my phone and it just kept turning off. My advice get familiar with your stuff, you need to tie down some items and not just with bungees. I lasted 5 days and came home. It was either pouring rain or snowing.

      Very well said Sir!
Every month, I see more cars, SUV's, and vans all around me. Those high rents are driving people into this mobile lifestyle in droves! It amazes me on how many people have told me that they wished that they had done this long ago...
Just think of the memories created and the money saved...
I wish that more people would come to realize that Memories and Love are the only things we get to take with us... Everything else just fades away.

so recently left a bad relationship... I have my belongings in storage and a few items in the back of SUV. I'm in my car all day. I just started Doordash and also Instacart for money. I'm hiding at night at a family's member home but have to leave by 5am. just turned 41 last week. Florida is so expensive that the pay doesn't cover rental. I recently applied for relocation assistance to move north, praying this gets approved. I never in a million years did i think this would be me. prayers to all displaced people. if you have a vehicle to sleep in you are blessed compared to those sleeping on the hard ground. I see more n more in south florida. heartbreaking. this needs to be reviewed and corrected. May God protect us all

I’ve just came back to my studio from 5 weeks living in my car. I’ve been watching videos on it for more than 5 years just bc I was fond of this subject. I decided to do it as a change and see how it goes. First 3 days I was about to come back home, after that it went so organically. It’s easier than you think. I made a comfy bed and next days only got more adjustments regarding my routine. You’ll need lil and the less the better you’re gonna feel. I got that cooker they sell at Walmart and it was a huge saving on food and keeping it healthy. After 5 weeks I was worn out and came back home. I’d say you should keep yourself busy so you don’t feel bored. I’d do it again short term not sure if I’d be able to live.
