Really glad to see the return of Silo! It was definitely a slow burner of an episode but I kind of liked the haunting familiarity of everything despite the fact that the environment was new. Let me know what you thought of this episode in the comments!
the engineer is Juliette. It was all about her ability to understand how things work and how to fix them. that's who she is, a problem solver. and yeah the guy in the room is interesting. he's survived somehow down there all alone.
i think the man at the end is the equivalent of Bernard for this silo, and we haven't learnt his name yet. This is backed up by the dialogue of silo 17's sheriff at the beginning about opening the door. I think he locked himself in when he realised there was nothing he could do to stop them opening the doors to the outside
@mihaicostel5883 my only counter to that would be: we saw the child leave the silo with his father at the beginning, he would have had to rush back inside past all the dying people somehow and then lock himself in, also it wouldn’t make sense that he would be left behind especially considering how much his dad was convinced it was safe outside
We have no idea how long ago the people in the second silo left the silo. Maybe it was only 10 years ago, which means the person behind the door is probably too old to be the boy.
7:58 I think the episode was titled The Engineer because we got to watch Juliet engineering the whole time (to get in; and then build a bridge to get across)
My guess is the mystery man in the server room is "The Engineer" only because we've already known since S1E2 that Juliette is an engineer so it would seem quite repetitive/overtly obvious to title an episode after her and so basically the whole premise of this season premier episode are all the actions she take to end up meeting him.

He may be that Silo’s head of IT. Because, I think that vault he’s in, is the room behind the server room, the most important room in the Silo. (Where Bernard watches Juliette’s helmet cam the trailer. I realized after watching Bernard walk into that room with judge Meadows in the “Rebellion” trailer on Tv+. In both instances, the room is entered by entering a key locked door followed by the server room, then a vault door to the final room. Also, you can see “We’ll get in sooner or later” on the back wall. I wonder what the room is for (besides looking at Juliette’s helmet cam).
I really loved that first episode. Loved the amount of detail they put into Juliette improvising ways to solve these tough situations and how they connected to her training and natural acumen for engineering. Those kinds of details are what separates a show like Silo.
Thank You for mentioning the darkness of the episode! Yes, I understood the emotional message it conveyed, but it was tedious and laborious to try and watch!
I think the flash backs also served as exposition to show where he amazing ingenuity and resilience comes from as we can't hear her inner monologue or have her talk out loud about it
Good noticing, that makes sense. Reinforcing her competence with the air processing machine at the beginning of season 1. Setting up for her improvising now as she faces her biggest challenge. Haha imagining a spoof sci-fi drama that's a war between writer factions.

I’m glad you brought it up that this episode looks really, really dark. I had to pause watching it during the day (since I could see the reflections of the room all the time) and finish the rest of the episode at night with all lights turned off.
From my perspective, that's a strike against the episode. It's essentially 75% a knock-off of The Martian. You understood there was a Silo rebellion in the first 5 minutes. The next 40 minutes just burns viewing time, while not really moving the plot along.
Random theory: the guy mentioned at the beginning of the episode (other than Timmy) is that person. I’m thinking Solo was Timmy’s friend (same age), knew that the outside world/air was toxic, and locked himself in that room. Meaning that it this “rebellion” took place around 30-40yrs ago. The door Solo’s behind may be the “door” the sheriff is referring to at the beginning of the episode, as well.
Why did Timmy get named? If he was just going to die, why name him? Solo is either Timmy or Timmy is alive in another location. Part of a larger rebellion. That’s my theory.
I think Timmy's corpse is next to his mom just behind the sheriff's corpse by the tattered flag. Looking at how the bodies are arranged in and around the Silo exterior entrance, I don't see how Timmy would be able to turn around and run back inside. It would be like trying to push back against a large crowd on a concert floor. Seems highly unlikely. But to your point, I'm curious why they felt the need to mention his name. I'm guessing there's probably a full flashback explaining what led up to the rebellion that includes Timmy.
