I just want so say one thing as a beginner. Jonathan's videos are the absolute main reason I bought some L64 discs. I am convinced his content makes higher sales to begginers more then any of the endorsed pros. He's so relatable to us with all the struggling, practicing, fails and wins its unbelievable and I'm sure I'm not alone with that opinion .Keep him close L64, because he's totally worth it!
I can just jump on that train! Fav discs are from Latitude and m bag is 90% L64. I mainly watch Jonathan for motivation and learn and add overthrow for technique Infos! Whats your fav forehand (forehand) driver Jonathan?
Haha. After watching a handful of these vids, I started looking for those black on black hats and the hoodies are pretty cool too. Planning on trying out all brands of discs though. Will definately be adding L64 discs. Love the content. If you can make me laugh, you get my subscription, likes and shares.
I must second this! When I started out I got almost only Innova disks. Now half my disks are Lattitude 64°. Just yesterday I bought a “starter set” for my son with Saint, Fuse and Keystone… Yeah, I see now it says “Advanced” all over the box. I guess he’ll just have to put his big boy pants on! 😅
I’ll try not to overstate this…. You have the best dg content on TH-cam. Thank you for really “putting” 😉 yourself out there. Keep up the great work! I highly suggest you find a local putting league (or start one yourself). It’s a ton of fun and a huge confidence builder for putting under pressure. Cheers!
My friends showed me a great putting practice drill that sort of automatically finds the putting range at which you start to get inconsistent, which for me is one of the biggest things to work on in my own putting. The drill works like this: Get a random disc and put it on the ground 10 feet from the basket. Putt 2 putters in succession at the basket. If you make both putts, flip the ground disc backwards to extend the distance slightly. If you make one putt and miss one, leave the ground disc where it is. If you miss both putts, flip the disc forward, decreasing the distance slightly. Use 4-8 putters so you don't have to run to the basket every round. After a few rounds, you'll arrive at an area where you might make both, you might only make one, or you might miss both. It'll show you the range you need to work on (spoiler alert: it's a much smaller distance than you probably think it is! My challenge range ends up about 18-20 feet...). And the more you work on it, the larger that distance should get. Soon those 18 footers that you use to step up and think "uh oh, I have to make this one, but I could totally miss it..." become automatic for you. And plenty chance to develop shot style, grip, routine, etc.!
I’m not gonna lie. I’ve loved watching you journey and seeing your form improve! It’s really motivating and you putt release looks so clean after all the practice. Your “timing” is also way way more consistently smooth and looks the same in all the clips be really jerky before hand.
Practice making putts, don't practice missing. Find a distance where you never miss and just putt alot from that distance, it sounds weird but it works. Someone else probably said this, but it's the best tip I've ever come across.
As always, the best Disc Golf content on TH-cam. It's not a pro player showing off pro player things it's a player starting from the beginning, showing the full beginner process. We all start somewhere and it's nice to see that not hidden!
The amount of strokes saved is great in it self, but the actual close misses is the best improvement I'd say. All the old misses resulted in a not at all easier comeback putt where'as your new photage shows an easy comeback putt in most cases. Saves even further strokes being able to miss "safe" and thereby trying even longer putts with more confidence! I have tried some different putters and I think the DD Deputy feels really good in the release, not had the time to practice with it though.
Eh, yes they do, not intententionaly as a safe miss ofc. But they putt different on different baskets, and many use different techniques at different distances and situations to not go to long no matter what gets in the way. And by this they only have to worry of a rollaway when hitting the basket missing low or high. Using a more push putt over a spin is one way eg. Not all pros are fearless ;)
You look like you are shooting AT the basket now, while some of your first putts look like you were just trying to hyzer/float them in. I still have a lot to learn but shooting AT the basket has really helped. Keep it up and thanks for taking us along.
This is one of the most realistic, wholesome TH-cam videos I’ve seen in a long time. From where you were to where you are now because of the practice you did. You showed the reality of practice that it doesn’t go well always but over time it definitely helps. You’re a ledgend. Comedy keeps me engaged too
Even your misses were closer, Jonathan! One thing I like to do before I putt is tell myself "Stance, Grip, Line, Rip" and those things help me dial in my positioning before I putt. I get in the correct stance. Once settled, I make sure I'm holding the disc exactly the way I need to, then I build a line from my body where the disc will go back to, to where it needs to go. Then I let it rip along that line.
Why does this not have millions of views. I have searched for this lost ark video, and I have finally found it! if your passionate about disc golf, and want to get better! Learn about discs and flight patterns then immediately watch this video!!! Then Practice A metric ton!!!
This is awesome. I have always taught people looking to improve putting that the first step is to find your "true natural" putt; the one that you can re-create without thought. Once you find that, pointing it in different directions is trivial. And the first half of the video shows you doing that. The other thing you need is data and feedback, and I see you doing that too. One suggestion. When thinking about how to practice, the very best distance to focus on is your 50% make range. For that, I putt in pairs, and if I make both I step back a pace for the next, and if I miss both I step in. Make/miss stays right there. This puts you right at your 50% range and then I work on extending my 50% range. How far back can you push it? Also, don't forget to work on longer putts. Those 40+ footers take more power and are different, so make sure to include some distance putting in the mix. Finally, practice hyzer/anhyzer and straddle putts. Not only do you need those specific putts sometimes, but they'll make your default putt better too. Cheers, and GREAT VIDEO!!
As a Spike (with the grip pads) fanatic... The new Royal Sense plastic is amazing! Gotta be grippy to get that snappy spin! Now we just need to bring back the Spike in Royal Sense!
When I first started putting, my outs were going left as well, like hyzers. I rectified this by turning my palm up on release. It acted more of anhyzer making the disc fly straight for the entire flight. With more of a flop putt I found major success.
You improved a lot! The old putting was typical beginner putting: Timing off which leads to weak putts which don't go straight but start to fall or fade left. The new putting has much more energy and you can see this when the putter flies straight and does not fade because it has more spin and speed. Look at how much force pro players have when they putt. Ricky has almost too much power, many times short putts bounce out of the basket. He is more nervous with short putts because of that. Also when you are nervous while putting, you loose power and at least my hand becomes jello, mainly the wrist and then the spin is not there and then I have a beginner putt all over again. So for me the most important thing to get a powerful, straight and consistent putt is wrist action. If the wrist does it's job, the putt is good. So especially when I feel the nerves, I put all my effort into my wrist so that it will send the disc with enough spin and power.
I have been playing a long time but definitely still consider myself a beginner amateur. I do have one tip that I always tell all my friends. Have you played catch with a friend? It is so much easier to throw a ball a disc whatever to your friend. Think of the basket as your friend. My friend is named Rob and he sometimes drops the disc but when I really think about throwing to a person and not a basket it makes it so much easier:). Jonathan, you should give the basket a name:)
Hey, it's great to see you in action! love the content and I'm looking forward to see more! My own putting looks actually pretty similar to what Calvin seems to be doing and in case it will be of any help to you I'd like to share my thoughts about it. I tried to come up with the simplest way of explaining it and the most effective thing would be to just take your putter and the grip you found. It looks just about perfect for this. (have mercy and get a grip Jonathan) and just start gently popping and hopping it upwards with the fingers under the disc. (in a way it wont leave your hand ) When you find that nice spring-like fluid tempo you can try uncurling your wrist while doing it and the disc should move from next to your hand to in front of it. That's the release point when you are actually putting like this. Now you just add that to your normal arm motion and the disc should have a nice clean straight up and forward flight. This is how I found my own putt, Instead of building from stance to release. I tried what I can do with literally just my fingers, then what happens when I add the wrist movement, what does the elbow movement has to add (I can pretty much putt from 5 meters by just using fingers, wrist and the elbow) and (finally for me lol) if the movement starts from my shoulders. At this point I started feeling it's pretty much all I need and ended up what I would like to call a "minimalistic" stance. Adding any more to it just doesn't do anything for me but add more variables that can result in a miss.(maybe just little more hip and leg action if it's a long putt) And finally some overall tips I'd like to give is to just be relaxed. Like seriously, try putting in slow motion. You'd be surprised how slow you can move and still have a decent putt. This way you also have time to really observe yourself and take notes of for example the angle of your disc and where you release it. Which leads to the next tip which is just to experiment with the angles when you putt (flat, hyzer, anhyzer, nose down, nose up) and another angle to watch is your shoulders, avoid slouching. (not that you'd be doing so Jonathan) I have that tendency and it helps greatly to put my otherwise useless arm behind my back while putting.. the other useless thing that came to my mind is that I sometimes feel that my pinky is in the way and scrapes the rim on release so sometimes I just lift it up or hold it behind the ring finger if it's a problem. One important thing for me is also the plastic and firmness of the disc, I prefer a more softer, bendy, eraser like surface which I think kind of softens the springy release to make it more smoother in flight versus a very hard stiff kind of plastic. so that's another thing to experiment with that as well (I putt with westside discs soft Bt Shields but I have a Pure and the zero medium plastic kinda works too, sadly I don't have a soft one to compare) Phew. a long one.. this is why I don't write much comments. But I hope it's clear and offers some help or insight to anyone reading :)
Great job on the putting practice! And a quality video like always 👌🏻 The thing that helped my putting style the most in recent years was a tip from an old Eagle McMahon putting video where he suggests to grab a stack of discs and start putting from the distance you make all the putts. For me that was 3-4 meters. Then with the stack of discs just putt away at a relatively fast pace. For me it was a putt every 5 seconds. Just focus on making the putt and with every putt start to make slight adjustments to the swing so that the disc doesn't flutter so much, releases every time at the same angle etc. Even though it's not the focused golf putt it helps with finding the right rythm of the down and up swing along with a clean release. You'll quickly notice if your grip doesn't allow for a quick grab-and-go type of putt. I hope this helps someone!
Jonathan, about your routine; in the future, you should add walking up to the disc/mini to it and my suggestion is that you walk near the spot, look at the basket, and do that "successful putt" weird face with the hand's motion too definitely... whatever - just so the basket knows what is coming and can fear for it. Also, this might prepare you for the putting. But scaring the basket, that is the most important! ;)
I was practicing my putting last night in my backyard! I've found out that my straddle putt is most accurate up to 20 ft. My rock putt is legit up to 25 ft. After that my plush putt turns into a full out spin putt. Bending the elbow into your waist line generates a lot of power but I miss right to left a lot. Eventually I'll get the hang of it lol!!! Much love!!!!
I will someday figure out why I just love this guy. He is so much fun to watch. I truly enjoy it. If I am having a not-so-great day, I watch one of his videos and I am back to the "me" I like. I can't thank you enough for that. Nope, just can't. And I even improve my disc golf to boot. Win-win!
I was just thinking yesterday... "Didn't Jonathan promise us that the videos would start up again?", then I got sad... You guys are my favorite disc golf content creators!! Thanks for giving me my fix.
This might be the best and most helpful discgolf video on the internet. I started sinking 25m putts more often than not after doing this instead of trying to copy what one's "supposed" to do.
Something that I've found helpful (as a fellow spush putter) is that a lot of power comes from your core, and focusing on getting the disc as close to your core during your release will greatly influence how strong your putt is. It's almost like a pushing sensation from your stomach being transfered into the disc during the part where you bring the disc up to release. Hope that helps someone! Great vids Jonathan!
within choosing the disc is choosing the plastic. I love jawbreaker plastic for the grip. I don't like some premium plastics because they feel slippery, even though they last longer.
Yeah I hear that also. Gonna to into plastics in the future. Have a lot to learn there it feels like. I think I would agree with you there. Slippery doesn't feel ideal for putting
Great video and a solid improvement there. A few things touched in other videos about putting that most golfers will have to figure out is: - the angle of the disc and its nose angle (which comes hand in hand with the putter of choice and the putting style), - if doing a dry throw without a putter in hand (e.g. Michael Holt) or one in hand. - what the routine looks like after the putt (e.g. leaning down to grab the mini and disc before reaching for the putter). There are situations where you may want to have a secondary putting style (for many, that'd be a straddle putt or one with a knee on the ground).
That's right feel the putt within you. Its always good to practice good mechanics and then find the right disc for your style of putting and also the same with driving!!!!! Dope video!!!!!
Great video! The most helpful tip I got around putting tempo came from the great Philo Brathwaite. The tempo of “apple pie”. 2 counts pulling the disc into the body “apple”. 1 count “pie” on the release of the disc always following through to the basket. Use your legs to dictate the speed of the release/ generate power. Good luck out there!
Yea i started with a hyzer putt then i met the WIND. So now I have like spin push putt with fan grip. I am still trying to get the right putt. Thanks for the video
I was encouraged by this video, and I actually just walked outside and worked on finding my grip while I was home for lunch. I also find that my putting is more accurate when I follow through, but I forget to do it on the course a lot. More practice, I guess. Thank you for sharing your disc golf journey. I started playing about 6 months ago, and I really relate to your videos.
Interesting. at 7:27 your front foot facing the basket. I actually have the side of my foot facing the basket, so I turn my foot 90 degrees. I find that it prevents me from going past the basket on the right. I can still miss left, but I created a stop, by moving my foot in that position, that kind of prevents me from over rotating to the right. worth a try..
for long puts you should imagine a ring in between you and the goal slightly above the goal and to the right and if you get through the ring it should land in the basket etc..video came from tips from Paul Mcbeth on putting!
Loving this content from Jonathan! It’s refreshing to see someone else deal with and learn from the struggles that so many of us share. Something that helped me today while practicing putting was after finding the range that I miss too many easy putts from (anyone else putt like crap from 15 feet and in, but pretty good from past that?) I made sure to do one practice arm extension before each putt. I’ve realized that in the 15’ and in putts I have the tendency to putt much softer which has resulted in much less than desirable scores. Practicing that full arm extension right before I putt reminds me what the proper feeling should be (hint: not weak!). Cheers!
I love this Info. I can watch all the putting videos on TH-cam, but none explain exactly what I'm dealing with and what to do and where to go also. Well done, and thank you from Minnesota.
Keystone is my go to putter. Love how it feels and flies and I'm at least twice as accurate as I am with my pure, diskmania sense and slightly better than my Kastaplast berg
As seen in some comments. I too suggest circle 1 practice with measurements. Short distance warmup shots to get comfortable and confident. Then work your comfort zone out. I use a rope with incremented knots tied around post of basket for quick reference.
First, so glad you are back. Next, really appreciate your content. It is presented in a jovial manner and always top notch information. Much appreciated.
Well come back Jonathan! I suggest to distinguish between the short putts (until 10 meters) and the longer ones. For the circle edge (10 Mt) it's useful using methods like Puttz!: 100 'modular' throws from 5 to 10 meters (see on internet). You can control the succeeding of your putting in your backyard (if it's larger than 10-12 meters).
Im new into discgolf and dont have power in my putts until i saw a video of Calvin His tips changed my putting. Heres the video (181) Calvin Heimburg 60 Second Blitz - TH-cam Look at the time stamp 12:24.
Great video! In my opinion the most important message is that you encourage people to figure out their own putting style and not just copy the style of somebody else!
I hadn't realized it before but after watching this I now think my most recent putt looks very much like Calvin's. I used to bring it down very low but now I keep it up closer to my face and it feels like it makes it easier to make my putting stroke straighter and actually end with my hand pointing at the basket. I still have to figure out how to get a little more power out of it so I can maintain the style on longer putts but so far I am much more confident when putting.
Bro you're back! Holy shit. You were among the first that I watched when I started playing cause you showed your journey into the sport and I could relate. I appreciate your videos so much and look forward to many more.
"Someone named.. Paul?" That blew my mind, Paul McBeth is the GOAT! But, putting is one of the hardest things for me as well. I'm decent with putting (in my group) up until I miss a few easy ones, then I'm in my head and tend to miss more. I need to work on getting out of my own head, hope you get your putt game in order my friend!
That was great! During the recreation at the end of the video, it was very nice to see your confidence go up after you made one or two putts. That confidence is so key to making putts. Keep up the awesome work!
Do NOT press the link! 😘🤘 /Jonathan

100 Percent. I'm new and trying to learn and your videos have been the most helpful to me. Thank you!
My friends showed me a great putting practice drill that sort of automatically finds the putting range at which you start to get inconsistent, which for me is one of the biggest things to work on in my own putting. The drill works like this:

And plenty chance to develop shot style, grip, routine, etc.!
I’m going to use this drill today! Thanks :)
This sounds fantastic! Going to definitely try this! Thanks!
@@sticky3507 let me know how it went for you!

Thanks for this! Just picked up a pack of putters going to use this method.

I have 5 Judges in Classic Blend and absolutely love them.
Couldn't have said it any better. That was the first thing I noticed is how much better the missed putts were vs the first time.
I think you have to realize... His instruction is funny and helpful but none of the pros miss "safe".
Worth a birdie chance and Sunday risky par, just to guarantee a par

It's great that Thomas could be so open about how much he really likes you. I know most of us in the comment section agree with him.
Haha yeah :). And I´m really grateful for both ❤🤘
2022 is going to be such a great year for disc golf! Cant wait to see more content come out from Latitude 64.

One important thing for me is also the plastic and firmness of the disc, I prefer a more softer, bendy, eraser like surface which I think kind of softens the springy release to make it more smoother in flight versus a very hard stiff kind of plastic. so that's another thing to experiment with that as well (I putt with westside discs soft Bt Shields but I have a Pure and the zero medium plastic kinda works too, sadly I don't have a soft one to compare)
Phew. a long one.. this is why I don't write much comments.
Jonathan’s back! LETS GO!!! Please please please do a video of Jonathan and Ricky!
Might happen who knows. If he´s forced to, haha 😂
Yes, I'm subscribed!
Thats great, Kevin. Thank you!
But scaring the basket, that is the most important! ;)
That song in the beginning is awesome! Thanks for helping with all your amazing videos.
Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your time with the family! Being super selfish, I'm glad you're back with content!
Haha it was great thanks for asking. But also great to be back :)
Win-win!
Thank you so much. This made me really happy. Have a great day!❤🤘 /Jonathan
I was just thinking yesterday... "Didn't Jonathan promise us that the videos would start up again?", then I got sad... You guys are my favorite disc golf content creators!! Thanks for giving me my fix.
Out there so long, the snow started melting lol. Good stuff!
WELCOME BACK JONATHAN!!!!! WE MISSED YOU!!!!! Hope fatherhood is going well!
Thank you so much! It was great and so is going back to work. I've missed it! 😀
As a small thing I do but helps me so much is try and focus on a point mine it the pole in the chains or a specific link in the chains
within choosing the disc is choosing the plastic.
Yes! I love putting with mercy
You’re back!!!!!! Awesome
Great video and a solid improvement there.
A few things touched in other videos about putting that most golfers will have to figure out is:
- the angle of the disc and its nose angle (which comes hand in hand with the putter of choice and the putting style),
- if doing a dry throw without a putter in hand (e.g. Michael Holt) or one in hand.
- what the routine looks like after the putt (e.g. leaning down to grab the mini and disc before reaching for the putter).
There are situations where you may want to have a secondary putting style (for many, that'd be a straddle putt or one with a knee on the ground).
Great video as always Johnathan! So glad your back! 👍
Kevin here. I subscribed. 👍
got 'im
That's right feel the putt within you. Its always good to practice good mechanics and then find the right disc for your style of putting and also the same with driving!!!!! Dope video!!!!!
Your videos are fantastic! That bit with the mannequin was hilarious. One of the best to watch on putting is Philo Brathwaite. Very good teacher.
Thank you! Yeah I enjoy it too. He seems like a great teacher :)
Some of the best DG content on TH-cam!! One of the many reasons why I started with Trilogy and continue throwing Trilogy Discs!
Most important tip, be confident!
Liked the follow through,
I will incorporate it in my putts.
Thank you
Dude you’re great! Thanks for calling me out. I need to PRACTICE my putting!
This is great. Love, love your style. 👍 one super great tip is to have fun like Jonathan. Thanks for this great content.
For assistance in targeting the correct chain link I use a Disc Dot. Really helps me focus.
Good luck out there!
that and "more hyzer fellas" :D
Yea i started with a hyzer putt then i met the WIND. So now I have like spin push putt with fan grip. I am still trying to get the right putt. Thanks for the video
I was encouraged by this video, and I actually just walked outside and worked on finding my grip while I was home for lunch. I also find that my putting is more accurate when I follow through, but I forget to do it on the course a lot. More practice, I guess. Thank you for sharing your disc golf journey. I started playing about 6 months ago, and I really relate to your videos.
I know man I do the same thing. I saw a tip where you're suppose to keep your hand like 3 sec after the put (in the air). Might help
After only 16,5hours thats so much better. Think about pros spending thousands of hours on their putting game. Keep up the good work :)
I like the musical selections, both the background music and the in between music scenes! Keep Crushing the Great Videos!
Thank you. Have a great day! =)
Right on Jonathan! Keep it going! I’ve stepped my game up a lot in the last month. Putts are on fire!!!🔥
Thats awesome!
You're learning! Ahhh! I'm so happy for you're putting my friend! May the birdie be with you! Keep getting the reps in brother.
Cheers!
Bro honest, your putt on 10:35 was smooth and powerful
Very interesting when you compare an earlier round like this and replay the same putts! This really shows how important the putting game is.
I love this Info. I can watch all the putting videos on TH-cam, but none explain exactly what I'm dealing with and what to do and where to go also. Well done, and thank you from Minnesota.
Your videos have helped me so much, have brought me from a bogey to a par player in a few months. I’m beyond grateful for all you do!
Keystone is my go to putter. Love how it feels and flies and I'm at least twice as accurate as I am with my pure, diskmania sense and slightly better than my Kastaplast berg
I'm so happy Jonathan is back! As far as I'm concerned this is the best and most entertaining DG content out there.
Welcome back!
The progress Jonathan.. it's progressing!! 🧡
You are my spirit child. This was great.
As seen in some comments. I too suggest circle 1 practice with measurements. Short distance warmup shots to get comfortable and confident. Then work your comfort zone out. I use a rope with incremented knots tied around post of basket for quick reference.
Amazing video Jonathan, your putting stroke looks great! Putting is all about doing what works for you, and you discovered that with SCIENCE.
Putting is very relaxing. (misses putt) ... are you relaxed? (Favorite moment in any of your videos so far!)
😂👍
First, so glad you are back. Next, really appreciate your content. It is presented in a jovial manner and always top notch information. Much appreciated.
I've missed these videos. This one especially is really helpful. It encourages me to use my basket and actually put some work in.
I've missed you 😭. I flip flopped my putting style for awhile and settled in a pure spin putt. Wasn't finding consistency with a smush or push.
I loooovvvvveeeeee your videos! I went to my first clinic yesterday. Obviously, a beginner. Plus I’m old. Retiring in 7 months so I need a hobby!
Come for the fun, knowledge, and quality.
Stay for the breakdown riff at the end.
Thanks for all the help and fun!
Glad you enjoyed the video. And the music at the end. Really like that riff.
Awesome to see you wear those chains out!
This video got me out of a putting rut. Thanks for sharing your experience. Super helpful
Thank you. Played a round today and my putting was not up to par. Even said need to work on my putting. Clutch.
It really is a mind thing! Hoping the same for you!
@@Latitude64 I appreciate it!
We can tell a huge difference in the before and after of your shot, way more straight and more power. Keep it up!
Most entertaining videos on disc golf form out there! Keep um coming!
That was great! During the recreation at the end of the video, it was very nice to see your confidence go up after you made one or two putts. That confidence is so key to making putts. Keep up the awesome work!
Yeah it feels like it has a big part of it for sure :)
Glad to see you back! I am inspired to re-jigger my stance... To the backyard!
Your finish, or follow thru, looks so much better and more confident in the new putts. You hold it much longer too.
So glad Jonathan is back!!! Lat 64: Great discs and the BEST content hands down.
