Thanks for the demo. After some issues we also decided not to flush anything we didn’t absolutely have to and certainly NO WIPES!!! You did A LOT right and extremely helpful things in that relationship. Idk anyone who would’ve taken such good care of someone they weren’t married too in health crisis like you did or keep such good maintenance on a rig. No one’s perfect but you did a great job, hold your head up Paul!
Atta boy Paul. I am glad you jumped on my suggestion for this excellent black tank maintenance video. The wife and I are going on 2 years as full timers. We had ZERO experience with RV's especially black & grey tank maintenance. There are tons of videos proclaiming the best methods to maintain these tanks and they all drove me crazy trying to figure out what worked best. The used RV we bought stank like the devils anus for about a year. The wife was on the war path with my manhood on the line. I tried every black tank product spending tons of cash trying to figure out what worked best and they all sucked....that is until I found a video using Dawn dishwashing soap and a "wetting agent" as you mentioned such as Borax which is cheaper than Calgon (Calgon is an expensive wetting agent). We only use Dawn dish soap and borax. The wife has put away the war paint, war dance and voodoo dolls = I am safe for now. We have a 3 gallon collapsing plastic bucket in our shower to capture water that we use to pre-mix Dawn dishwashing soap and borax. Borax does not dissolve easily and needs to be agitated so we use our shower water before it goes into the grey tank to prime the black tank after every flushing. This is especially useful when boondocking and you are trying to re-use grey water as efficiently as possible. Our black tank is 45 gallons and grey tank is 65 gallons and I use about the same proportions you are using with great success. Scott toilet paper breaks down as well if not better than septic safe toilet paper which is more expensive. We also put our TP in a lined trash can next to the toilet. With two people I have to dump the black tank about every 8th day. There are fantastic videos here comparing various toilet papers and how fast they break down using mason jars. The results are eye opening. Anyway do a video on MACERATORS or the glorified poo-pump. I did not know I could dump my black tank using a 5/8" garden hose and a macerator into a septic tank, sewer cleanout or toilet up to 150' away. Forget looking for a dump station when you can poo-pump !!! Great job ma' man !! My .02

I was curious about using both Borax and Calgon since they're both wetting agents but the formula I found had them both so I went with it. My husband and I are planning to get a real small rv (2023 Rockwood 2204S) as our very first RV. We're so scared to go on this adventure, as we're going to go out on the road full time to see this great nation of ours. So please help the newbies out there like us, who know nothing about fixing things. My husband is absolutely not a fix it guy. Hi Paul 🌻 I have to say...there is nothing wrong with having a waste basket. As a matter of fact, I screwed up the sensors on my black tank by using paper. Mind you, it was RV paper which costs a fortune. My RV tech told me to keep paper out of the tank. I haven't had a problem ever since. I love your cocktail of disinfectants and sure to try it. I really enjoy your videos. Not scripted, not edited, just real. I just can't bring myself to use the trash can for used paper products though. To me that is a big ick. We'll just keep flushing the black tank when we dump.
I'm glad I found your account today because I watched you with Liz before. I always learned from your knowledge of campers so I'm glad I connected with you again. My wish for you is you find your happiness in life and treasure the good memories you had with Liz, but be able to move ahead and know you have so much to offer another person in a new relationship. You are a kind and interesting man and have a lot to offer in a new relationship that doesn't keep score on any past mistakes that were made. Hubby and I have been married 37 yrs. in December and we learned early on in our relationship we will both make mistakes but we don't keep score and regurgitate past problems. We forgive each other, put the other one first, and we move on. I wish you many years of happiness pursuing your interests. (I bought my hubby an electric bike because of you and he LOVES it. )
We ❤ don’t have an RV yet but hope to at some point so this is super helpful. Sometimes, RV channels don’t show what they see as the basics but those of us who have never done this nothing is too basic.
That is so true, S Bayles. One of the things I learned as a field engineer was that can't assume that the person you're speaking with knows what you're talking about even if you think it's basic knowledge.

Thanks Paul, Great video and to the point. I'll give this mix of household chemicals a try next season. Our RV is all winterized for our Northeast winter season. The separate can for the paper waste is a matter of personal choice and my other half just wouldn't go for that. Also, not sure how that practice would be implemented with the grandkids (ages 2 through 10). Congrats on reaching 10K subscribers so quickly. Great start!

Great to see you again Paul. We have been using the formula that Kleen Tanks published. It's a mix of Pine Oil, Calgon bath Beads and water. We make a gallon at a time and use about a cup per 40 gallon tank. We also use this formula for the gray tank as well. We don't leave the gray tank valve open when camping and dump it as needed. This formula helps to keep the sides of the tank slick so things are less likely to stick to them and keeps the sensors working properly. If you get the chance to see a seminar from Kleen Tanks I highly recommend it.

I'm glad I found your account today because I watched you with Liz before. I always learned from your knowledge of campers so I'm glad I connected with you again. My wish for you is you find your happiness in life and treasure the good memories you had with Liz, but be able to move ahead and know you have so much to offer another person in a new relationship. You are a kind and interesting man and have a lot to offer in a new relationship that doesn't keep score on any past mistakes that were made. Hubby and I have been married 37 yrs. in December and we learned early on in our relationship we will both make mistakes but we don't keep score and regurgitate past problems. We forgive each other, put the other one first, and we move on. I wish you many years of happiness pursuing your interests. (I bought my hubby an electric bike because of you and he LOVES it. )

We ❤ don’t have an RV yet but hope to at some point so this is super helpful. Sometimes, RV channels don’t show what they see as the basics but those of us who have never done this nothing is too basic.
That is so true, S Bayles. One of the things I learned as a field engineer was that can't assume that the person you're speaking with knows what you're talking about even if you think it's basic knowledge.

Thanks Paul, Great video and to the point. I'll give this mix of household chemicals a try next season. Our RV is all winterized for our Northeast winter season. The separate can for the paper waste is a matter of personal choice and my other half just wouldn't go for that. Also, not sure how that practice would be implemented with the grandkids (ages 2 through 10). Congrats on reaching 10K subscribers so quickly. Great start!

Thanks for the easy maintenance odor solution tip for the black tank!! Super affordable treatment remedy and never knew how all three (Borax Powder, Dawn, and Calgon liquid) mixture would help eliminate the odors. Whew and LOL!! Glad you disclosed the measuring cup was designated only for the toilet as I became focused watching you agitate the mixture with the cup 😆. Happy to see you in great vibes in this intro video!!

Good tip on the tank treatment. Yeah, I haven't put paper in my black tank in years. I always put it in a separate closable container.

Great to see you again Paul. We have been using the formula that Kleen Tanks published. It's a mix of Pine Oil, Calgon bath Beads and water. We make a gallon at a time and use about a cup per 40 gallon tank. We also use this formula for the gray tank as well. We don't leave the gray tank valve open when camping and dump it as needed. This formula helps to keep the sides of the tank slick so things are less likely to stick to them and keeps the sensors working properly. If you get the chance to see a seminar from Kleen Tanks I highly recommend it.
Yes! Easy and cheap. We have had great success and no smells, etc.
