I must admit, my jaw was dropped in amazement a few times. The AI seems really weak in some respects. "Oh hey I'm gonna check that box in that corner over there and totally ignore the obviously running trespasser next to me". :P
I originally played this through a few times back when it 1st came out & I never saw this kind of run done for this. MOST IMPRESSIVE! i spent weaks playing this game finding secret path trying to save everyone knocking off enemy if necessary and you beat game in 2hours i spent that much time playing first mission. i bow to almighty box throwing guy
Hats off to you! I just finished the game for the first time right now, and now seeing this run (I usually youtube game-related stuff after finishing them, to fill that existential crisis!) it inspired a second playthrough but a much more...interesting one. Kudos.
Nice job! I like how the game kind of notes that you're not taking the upgrades (at 13:30). Makes it nicely immersive. :) (Or maybe it's just a double reminder to make sure no one accidentally misses them :P)
2:13:30 "Yes Mr. Darrow, the things I've done with these "enhancements" have bothered me. Being able to sneak past everyone with crates, boxes, and fire extinguishers would unnerve anyone. Don't even get me started on the irony of how I can take down a box guard robot...... with a box"
This is the best game I have ever played. I had asked you about your most favourite stealth game before, and "Thief" was your answer. I haven't gotten my hands on Thief, so I have to say this is my most favourite game thus far. Thanks for taking the gameplay onto a whole new level, it is really amusing to watch. :D Are you going to replay this game without any restriction like DTD-only? I'd like to see which augmentations you think are necessary, and in what sequence you unlock and upgrade them. For me, I like augmentations which enhance Jensen's fistfight, hacking, weight-lifting/wall-breaking, and aiming capabilities. I also pump points into inventory expansion to carry more useful items and weapons (though tranquilizer rifle and stun gun are more than enough), Typhoon for overpowering bosses, and Icarus for cushioning falls. Noxious gas tolerance, enemy radar, and EMP resistance are essential upgrades, too. The rest are all optional.
Arius Spaxxor I have no plans for replaying the game. I thought about recording a playthrough showing how to acquire every available aug by the end of the game after doing this run, but it would have been too long for my tastes (50-60 hours), so I decided against it. Besides, this guy had already done it by then: th-cam.com/play/PLCF1A02384A34BB46.html If you are intersted in my build for a completitionist/DTD-focused playthrough I talked about it here: deusex.wikia.com/wiki/Experience_by_area_(DX3)#Augmentations_build
+Neuralhub Spaxxor Thief: The Dark Project was the father of the modern "stealth" genre of games. I want to say it came out in 1998. Thief 2: The Metal Age around 2000 is still somewhat playable on a modern computer. Two of the best pure stealth games ever made. Probably the first games that rewarded the player for not killing opponents and even forbidding it at higher difficulty levels.
+Neuralhub Spaxxor I'm sure you can pick it up on super sale on steam someday. I think I picked up the trilogy for a couple bucks a year or two ago. Its a shame the newest thief game was such a pile
43:19 *Guard*: I ever see you sneaking down those stairs ur in trouble. *Jensen*: Whatever u say man. *goes down the stairs and guard doesn't give a shit*.
Omg! That was absolutely amazing! What an interesting way to beat the game. I kind of want to try this method out for myself. Super stealthy and awesome to watch!
Amazing run there. I was just thinking about starting a similar run myself (even though I was planning on using weapons on bosses and honestly I wasn't sure if the run is entirely possible at all) but instead you sir saved a lot of my time as well as provided amusement by presenting some tricks I wasn't aware of. It's impressive how it takes controls away from you at 1:22:17 (waiting for you to Accept/Decline uploading the data) right as you are flying downstairs on top of a fire extinguisher - and yet you land and walk away as if nothing happened. I also like how the 'adopted crate' you kill Fedorova with says "Handle with care" on one of its sides. Cute huh? :P I wonder what's up with the thug behind you not seeing you at all at 1:34:22?
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hope it didn't dissuade you from trying something like this on your own, though. Try this kind of run in some other game -- it can be a lot of fun coming up with non-standard solutions to standard problems. As for the guy at 1:34:22 -- he was asleep, that's why he didn't react to me, just as the other guy on the couch at 1:34:40. They would ignore you unless you wake them up with a noise.
Well, just watched this video start to finish, and that was the most fun speed run I've ever watched of anything. Awesome skill. Very impressive. Be proud of this achievement.
A huge part of these videos was the commentary aspect written by Prenatual in his annotations. Since TH-cam disabled them, that aspect of the videos is gone. However, if you have FireFox, you can download an extension that searches a database with 1.4 billion videos worth of annotations archived, and this video is one of them. Here's the extension: tech234a.bitbucket.io/AnnotationsReloaded/ And if you're interested in the project, you can read about it here (it also links to the extension, so you don't have to worry about me linking you a virus or something): www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/b7imx9/youtube_annotation_archive_annotation_data_from/
34~ minute mark is a hilarious one lol! jumps back into corner and dude doesn't even see him. really nice video! this game is great haha & another timeless Deus Ex game to be played and re-played for the many years to come!
This is truly impressive, really, you did one hell of a good job it"s beautifull man! I remember having trouble a some points of the game when i did my ghost-non lethal run, but you passed all of them easily...lol GG
Man, I'm seeing sides of this game I never saw before. I always went straight for the emotion-manipulation aug ASAP and used it for every possible encounter. Weird to see things play out late-game a bit differently than I'm used to. A great playthrough and amazing skill! You make me look like a chump trying and failing to go unnoticed by guards; you manipulate them like puppets.
This was one of the most amazing speedruns I have ever seen! Are you a member of SDA or have you ever played during an AGDQ/SGDQ? If not, I think being a part of that community can help get you more of the audience I feel you deserve
Mayer Yedid I have an SDA account, but I haven't posted there in years and I never participated in AGDQ events - mostly because we have a rather different interpretations of what "speedrun" means. For those guys the completion time is #1 goal and they are ready to sacrifice everything to improve it, even if it makes their videos boring to watch. While for me "speedrun" just means doing things efficiently and elegantly. Spending countless hours optimizing routes or finding new glitches that let you skip parts of the game is not what I consider fun. Plus, if I see an opportunity to do something weird/challenging I want to be able to do it, without having to worry about how long it would take. With a few exceptions (like my Batman videos), the completion time is usually my last concern. More than anything, it is just a way to advertise what I'm trying to do here. I am mostly interested in playing games at the highest possible difficulty or showing how to solve challenges in interesting ways under extreme restrictions, but I'm not sure how to better communicate these concepts. So I'm stuck using the word "speedrun" because this is something that most people understand. As for reaching a wider audience, you are overestimating what the sites can do, believe me. 2-3 years ago I tried sharing my videos on various forums (SDA included), but then, looking at my views statistics, I'd noticed that their contribution ended up being very small. At most it was about 5%, and usually much less that. Ignoring the the subscribers, the absolute majority of new views was coming (and still comes) from the youtube/google searches and when people click on the related videos on the sidebar. Take this video, for example. I posted it on SDA: forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/deus_ex_human_revolution___no_augs_no_items_no_takedowns_ghost_speedrun_233302.html - but I've only got 150 views from them in total since 2012, and people on there criticized me for doing things the "wrong" way, like not skipping conversations or hacking the devices instead of using codes. I also wasted several minutes getting to Sarif and Taggart at end of the video since I haven't seen anybody do it stealthily without the use of augs, and things like that are a big no-no for speedrunners. So this is why I stopped caring about reaching that crowd. And anyway, as far as I'm aware, my channel is already one of the biggest when it comes to stealth games and everyone who knows how to use TH-cam's search function can find me if they want to.
***** That's a very fair point; it is hard to label exactly what you were aiming for. I suppose you could call it a "challenge speedrun" At the end of the day everyone's got their own interpretation. You were also right about me overestimating the speedrun sites. In retrospect, if someone takes the time to see how many subs/views speedrunners get on YT and Twitch, many of them have very low numbers.
Mayer Yedid I did try adding the word "challenge" to tags and descriptions on a few of my videos, but as it turned out there are two problems with it: 1) No one actually uses the term "challenge" when searching for videos. If TH-cam's analytic reports to be believed, most people just type the game's name + the name of a mission they are looking for, and about 30-40% add the words "speedrun" or "stealth" to that. Very few write more elaborate search queries. 2) Some games (like Absolution) have their own in-game challenges (like "kill 10 enemies with a screwdriver") and when you also refer to an entirely different thing (self-imposed rules) as a "challenge" that gets people confused. So, not an ideal solution, unfortunately. Although if you have some other ideas or suggestions, I'm all ears.
***** Maybe you can get your followers involved in a run plan. For example: There's a TH-camr/Twitch stream named Lobos Jr. If you're not familiar with him, he does and has done a large variety of challenge runs in Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. Many of these challenge ideas are suggested and developed between himself and his followers. Not only do the new challenges help keep the games fresh and exciting, but it also adds a layer of fun from community involvement. Now I know you don't bother doing runs that have already been done before by others on youtube, and I'm not familiar with what you do outside youtube so at the end of the day it might not be worth your time, but maybe you can survey your followers for some interesting challenge/handicap runs. If feedback is large enough and original enough then it might be worth a try. Are there any challenge run ideas you've wanted to try out in the past but haven't?
Mayer Yedid I could see how the democratic system might work for someone like Lobos, who basically threats playing Dark Souls as his job, and who has probably truly ran out of ideas after beating these games dozens of times. Besides, he makes money off his twitch channel, so it makes sense for him to involve the community as much as possible, whether he likes it or not, since it directly transforms into donations and paid subscriptions. But for me this system would be a bad fit. I do all this stuff for my own enjoyment and without any monetary compensation, so I'm not really concerned about pleasing people. I already have well-defined preferences of how like to play games and I only care about advertising these preferences clearly to others. And anyway, I usually have enough patience for one playthrough only. I can't imagine doing a 2nd playthrough (never mind a 3rd or 4th) for any of the games I have on my channel that would be sufficiently different from what I've already done and equally fun. DXHR was a lone exception in this regard. With that said, there is actually one idea that I wanted to try out for a few years and that is very similar to what you are proposing, but I just couldn't find the appropriate game for it. What I want to try is to complete each mission on a *single* playthrough in several distinct styles of stealth by combining different handicaps and using different gear. Lethal or nonlethal, using close-quarter or long-range weaponry, with or without distractions, and so on. Maybe also give a catchy name to each style, sort of like Hitman: Blood Money did: archive.hitmanforum.com/index.php/topic/31761-blood-money-ratings-collection/ I may prepare a short list of styles, ask people to provide their own suggestions and then decide what to go with. If I'd like the suggestions I'll use them, if not, I will stick to my own list. Of course, I wouldn't want to do this for *every* game I play, but as a one-time thing it could be fun. I hope I would be able to do this in The Phantom Pain, but until I play the game it's impossible to say if it can support this kind of approach. We'll see.
despite the length of thid video I have watched it 3 times, fully. I love your work in Deus Ex. I hope to see some of that magic of yours in Mankind Divided.
god danm lol that AI Loophole there Nothing suspicous just go through only 2 moving crates with a hell of a sound rumbling and rolling through those hallways just go ahead lol
Thane Krios It's a plush lion toy from Human Revolution. You can find several of them throughout the game. This one is from van Bruggen's apartment (I visit it at 34:10 in this video) and it has a not-so-well-hidden red button in its belly that opens a door when you press it.
I never recall seeing these plushies in game! It's been so long since I played. I only have the original. Have you played the Dir Cut? did you do any videos on it? I haven't checked your channel index yet. Is it worth buying again if I already beat the old version?
I haven't played this game in years but what I remember the most is how fun it was to find access cards. In 99% of the games, getting and using access cards was a chore but somehow they managed to make it fun in HR. Hacking computers was also a lot of fun, much like in the original Deus Ex. The game could've been a bit better ( the trailer made it look like a masterpiece ), the graphics and some animations might've looked a bit dated but it did live up to the expectations IMO. I think it was a solid revisiting of the Deux Ex universe.
Amazing play through!!! Absolutely love this game and never seen it played like this. I lost it when you beat that bot with a box at 54:00 lolol you've lots of good stuff I intend to use on my 6th go around
God this game was good. I must have played it through 5 or 6 times back in the day. No Kill, Give Me Deus Ex, the expansion, stealth vs strength builds, the unbelievably good soundtrack, the visual aesthetic, the story, the multiple ways to do any mission/quest, the branching routes through the plot. Mankind Divided dropped the ball (thanks in no small part to executives forcing the story to be left unresolved in a terrible sequel bait) but it was still good. I still have my 360 purely for this game - I haven't gone back and played it in years (due to a Destiny "addiction") but I really should. Hell, I'd pay for a PS5 remastering, just like I did for Mass Effect, another amazing game/series from around the same time. That closing line... "and please.... Call me Bob"...
1- Very cool to ride down on falling objects. 2- Never knew you could take out box guards with crates. 3- Breakable walls too. 4- The TYM card was just a level below???? 5- I never saw Farida's execution and I've played it three times already! Rescued once but two other times I thought she was always killed inside her ship. 6- Never saw the shakedown sequence (1:36:00) until today. 7- First time I see the Tong's kid rescue dlc. 8- Never knew you could walk on the sides of the bridge (2:26:00)!!! A very respectable speed run overall.
This is fucking amazing. Batshit crazy Jensen denying his augmentations and unhealthily attached to cardboard boxes saves the world without even touching a weapon or person.

What a rotten way to die
his box was augmented
A man and his box saved the world.
Solid Snake would be proud. lol :D
ApolloXL5 Hahahahahahha Your comment made me laugh so hard :D
I am sure snake would be more than proud :)
+Monsieur Jeaques
Solid Snake: I never asked for this...
+prenatual: "You're pretty good." :P
Saved the world is a bit of a stretch
Not all heroes wield weapons; some just hold boxes.
I like how the crate says 'handle with care'. It's not because it's fragile, but because it's a killing machine :D
Jensen: "I'm going in..."
Sarif/Pritchard/Malik: "Okay, g..."
Jensen: "I'm in."
Sarif/Pritchard/Malik: "Good j..."
Jensen: "Done. Ready for extraction."
O_o
The real hero of the run: Companion Cube.
"Augs? Items? TAKEDOWNS?! Who needs that crap,I'm just going to use my trusty box and some mad skillz" -prenatual,possibly one of the best players in the world at this moment.
If you remove the Augs part, this would end up sounding like Metal Gear Solid.
ToastyPineapples Are you in front of the disposal facility?
FRANKIEonWCin240p Yes, and hopefully I have the right box.
Now you see why Solid Snake said to Raiden about boxes in MGS2.
"Guns, Augs, Itens??? I never ask for this!" - Adam Jensen Denton
I never asked for this speedrun, but it was epic!
*Throws huge oil drum at wall*
"Did you hear something?"
"You're imagining shit!"
Also I like how you accepted a mission while riding a fire extinguisher down a stairwell. Nice multitasking.
Looks like this was based off Skyrim AI. Shoots enemy in head with arrow.............must be my imagination.
You can throw crates at the breakable walls! The Whole Time! This games better then I knew.
You sir, are the Smoothest of all Operators...

Now scat befor' I do a Richard on yer car!

I'm pretty sure Jenson's heart is human. If you watch him getting the augs you see his normal heart beating.
This is the story of how a man named Adam Jensen saved the world with a box.
Wow, this was amazing to watch. You literally took 40+ hrs of a game and condensed it into two and a half! I was glued to the screen.
How could you spend 40 hours in this, even with all side missions? I mean, without replaying it.
dxhr is only 25 hours and world record 35 min
@@pontusbengtsson2558 Yeah...if you play it straight without sidequests. Not meant. Play Call of Titty if you need a short campaign.
@@SyndicateOperative If you you some sidequests and exploring....if you want straight 6 hours play Call of Bullshit.
No Augs, No Items, No Takedowns, Jensen only.
Final destination.
Your crates are augumented
XD Yeah they have box enhancers!
DKC Boss fight
_Crate got destroted_
*What a shame. It was a good crate. **_lip smack_** What a rotten way to die.*
They didn't ask for this.
@LOUIS11233333: There is an exploit in the original version of the game that allows you to instantly knock out Namir with a single takedown:
Deus Ex: HR - Namir Boss Fight [No Bullets] [One Punch] [Hardest Difficulty]
I wanted to avoid using it (even though it makes the fight with him significantly easier) and find another way to beat him.
+Mister Sandsnake Check out Emarrel's channel for amazing runs of Dark Souls - NG7+

22:06 I just realized, if there's a helipad right next to the antenna, why couldn't Faridah just drop him off there in the first place?
It was right in the middle of gang territory, they would have shot them down. Having Jensen secure the antenna meant that jensen has full control over the LZ so it was safe to land.
That Place was filled with dudes with guns. They would all have attacked the heli and Jensen as soon as they would show up.
From the dialogue I'd imagine it's as they don't know where the antenna is

I like how the game kind of notes that you're not taking the upgrades (at 13:30). Makes it nicely immersive. :)
(Or maybe it's just a double reminder to make sure no one accidentally misses them :P)
Zhao is probably like in the ending ''Why the fuck are you killing me with a box???''
"I see you sneaking down those stairs, you're in trouble" *sprints down the stairs* Guard of the year!
2:13:30
"Yes Mr. Darrow, the things I've done with these "enhancements" have bothered me. Being able to sneak past everyone with crates, boxes, and fire extinguishers would unnerve anyone. Don't even get me started on the irony of how I can take down a box guard robot...... with a box"
genius
BOX
i.....i would never think that a metal crate can defeat that giant spider robot thing....... im impressed hOLY SHI T
We must download this video and keep it to the future generations. It must be preserved as the most epic speedrun ever seen.
Adam Jensen, as MacGuyver. Box ninja, Extinguisher expert, distraction debonair. Smoother than James Bond.
My crates are augmented.
Jensen is like:"I don't have fears, I have a box in my hands and that's enough"
This is the best game I have ever played. I had asked you about your most favourite stealth game before, and "Thief" was your answer. I haven't gotten my hands on Thief, so I have to say this is my most favourite game thus far. Thanks for taking the gameplay onto a whole new level, it is really amusing to watch. :D
Are you going to replay this game without any restriction like DTD-only?
Besides, this guy had already done it by then: th-cam.com/play/PLCF1A02384A34BB46.html
If you are intersted in my build for a completitionist/DTD-focused playthrough I talked about it here: deusex.wikia.com/wiki/Experience_by_area_(DX3)#Augmentations_build
Neuralhub Spaxxor you should have play the first deus ex too
+Neuralhub Spaxxor Thief: The Dark Project was the father of the modern "stealth" genre of games. I want to say it came out in 1998. Thief 2: The Metal Age around 2000 is still somewhat playable on a modern computer. Two of the best pure stealth games ever made. Probably the first games that rewarded the player for not killing opponents and even forbidding it at higher difficulty levels.
و
+Neuralhub Spaxxor I'm sure you can pick it up on super sale on steam someday. I think I picked up the trilogy for a couple bucks a year or two ago.
Its a shame the newest thief game was such a pile
I did run a similar run. Back in the PS3 era and platinum the game was sweet. But i wasnt as good as you are awesome job man.
Mirror Ex: Edge Revolution
TheOriginalElkstone Mirror Ex: Catalyst Divided (2015)
***** 2016.
you're a madman, an absolute madman. in the best possible way. this was AMAZING! kudos. and thank you for gifting the world with this. XD
I can't believe I sat through all of that. It was incredible, regardless
Longest TH-cam video i have ever watched... Thoroughly enjoyed the display of skill :D I could never have that much patience! :D
"You better not run down those stairs." *Immediately runs down stairs*
What a fun ride! I was never able to finish this game on the easiest difficulty, but seeing how you mock those guards is inspiring!
43:19 *Guard*: I ever see you sneaking down those stairs ur in trouble. *Jensen*: Whatever u say man. *goes down the stairs and guard doesn't give a shit*.
Well, technically, Adam didn't sneak - he openly walked down them. No sneaking - no troubles!
What? no way.
Omg! That was absolutely amazing! What an interesting way to beat the game. I kind of want to try this method out for myself. Super stealthy and awesome to watch!
Adam Jensen,the Box Warrior
This is fucking awesome! Love watching runs where the play is somewhat "normal". You have some cutscene and no glitches.
Cute huh? :P
I wonder what's up with the thug behind you not seeing you at all at 1:34:22?
Here's the extension:
tech234a.bitbucket.io/AnnotationsReloaded/
And if you're interested in the project, you can read about it here (it also links to the extension, so you don't have to worry about me linking you a virus or something):

Wow, this is a genius, a masterpiece in gaming. Hats off, sir. You're the best.
very good run, lot's of air ducts.
Francis Pritchard Sup Prickard
GravityZero Who's Prickard? Call me Francis ' Preach '-hard .
Francis Pritchard that was as bad as your face animations
So much for expectations.
Francis Pritchard huh
34~ minute mark is a hilarious one lol! jumps back into corner and dude doesn't even see him.
really nice video! this game is great haha & another timeless Deus Ex game to be played and re-played for the many years to come!
why
how
you
HOW U ONLY HAS 175k VIEWS??????
Maybe because he's not "supacool assassin who killz every1!"? :D
This is amazing!! All that work I did in being stealthy and you make it look easy! haha
so thats what ninjas look like when they walk around
This is truly impressive, really, you did one hell of a good job it"s beautifull man!
I remember having trouble a some points of the game when i did my ghost-non lethal run, but you passed all of them easily...lol
GG
the crate master, achieving crate escapes
Man, I'm seeing sides of this game I never saw before. I always went straight for the emotion-manipulation aug ASAP and used it for every possible encounter. Weird to see things play out late-game a bit differently than I'm used to. A great playthrough and amazing skill! You make me look like a chump trying and failing to go unnoticed by guards; you manipulate them like puppets.
All Hail the Box. For the Box is Glory.
Dude, awesome run, and awsome ANNOTATIONS! I mean jesus this is all so well done!
I posted it on SDA: forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/deus_ex_human_revolution___no_augs_no_items_no_takedowns_ghost_speedrun_233302.html
- but I've only got 150 views from them in total since 2012, and people on there criticized me for doing things the "wrong" way, like not skipping conversations or hacking the devices instead of using codes.
Mayer Yedid I did try adding the word "challenge" to tags and descriptions on a few of my videos, but as it turned out there are two problems with it:
1) No one actually uses the term "challenge" when searching for videos.
Maybe also give a catchy name to each style, sort of like Hitman: Blood Money did: archive.hitmanforum.com/index.php/topic/31761-blood-money-ratings-collection/
I may prepare a short list of styles, ask people to provide their own suggestions and then decide what to go with.
We'll see.
43:20
- I see you sneaking downstairs, you're in trouble
- Whatever you say, man.
**Immediately goes downstairs**
That just made my day.
Watching walkthroughs like this makes me realize how stupid even modern day videogames' AI is
you really deserve more views and more subs, you are superhuman and put a massive amount of effort into every game you play
all this hurry to die in the end! could never have played like this even if i tried my whole life..
despite the length of thid video I have watched it 3 times, fully. I love your work in Deus Ex. I hope to see some of that magic of yours in Mankind Divided.
Downfall of Abstergo Industries
Even if you did glitches and lowered difficulty you are pro. You win a sub!
This is the best porn ive ever seen
WAT the TWAT

This is amazing, awesome work, I really enjoyed it!
Crates are so powerful
That was absolutely amazing to watch... edited or not... tons of skill to pull this off.
god danm lol that AI Loophole there
Nothing suspicous just go through only 2 moving crates with a hell of a sound rumbling and rolling through those hallways just go ahead lol
I highly appreciate your editing of the start. Watching the rest now but just wanted to say that!
is there anything the companion cube cant do?
Sparkle Butt Save Malik :(

***** Ooouh... Your picture is so cute! Who is that? Where did you get it?
Anyway I love this game, thanks for this guide. (b^_^)b
Deus Ex: Miracles with Crates
I didn't have time to see the whole thing but that was some smooth stuff. That's like metal gear solid style. Really good!
Impressive.
Amazing play through!!! Absolutely love this game and never seen it played like this. I lost it when you beat that bot with a box at 54:00 lolol you've lots of good stuff I intend to use on my 6th go around
T-this was fucking beautiful
They could of used cardboard for Jensen's parts.
Thats how good this game is. You can literally play them any way you want
58:49 There is lot of things you can do in this game. This particular thing wasn't one of the things I knew about. :P
