Thanks for the video, I just ordered this because of you :D. Nevertheless, I'm wondering why they didn't give this extension the same ridges where the fingers go as on the other product. It feels really nice and really gives it an edge over the Tilta version. Also I would have liked to have an extension to the front on the left side with an Arri mount hole so you could mount the monitor off to the side. Yes you can attach something on top of the long nato rail but still the audio unit will be in the way. I hope you can mount the 3990 top plate but it looks like the same dimensions. Otherwise I'll attach the 3990s top plate instead
@HighlyAkicktive great to hear. And yes, I'm not sure why they didn't add the finger grooves to this one, I did like that feature of the old one, but I also quite like how this one feels still. I get what you mean about having a way to mount a monitor to the side, but also, that's kind of what magic arms are for
Thanks mate! My top-handle on my FX3 broke today. I just grabbed it, and the top part snapped off. It's really a bad design. I suspect that the plastic has become 'tired' after having had a shotgun microphone mounted on the top handle for a few years now, and the weight distribution on the top part is off when you have a shotgun microphone mounted. Therefore, I'd like something that also stabilizes that part. I came across the SMALLRIG 3990 TOPPLATE FX3 / FX30. Would I be able to mount it on top of the setup you're showing in the video here? Or would the SmallRig | 4771 | HawkLock QR Adv. Cage work
@@Clemme that makes sense, I've heard of that happening before. I'm pretty sure the 3990 top plate should work since it's just a 3/8" mount. I don't see why it wouldn't, but I can't be 100% sure
@scamp_media a mic spacer. This is the ones I have, they're all pretty much the same I think. www.amazon.com.au/Microphone-Spacer-compatible-camcorder-Shotgun/dp/B07HCFGSDZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=AQWGV64E5OOU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9._o6ASQ10l5nIUFrunBps0dIIJaXeaOzWNLfZTVp6ewbVA0GLss0TwA3YhLrfEtvmIu6sUXa4cu3nxbjU3YZWBFPPmCcITFJyRO_jLU9N7NskTQyAivkzfMryyseam84ISoyN8_LhF8ojYaa1t9qis0mdnOh0mbiU7SMgZXy_jVMHNlLtxfvD7b6Rsufo2PnWGIkAcinEaotfp-Q9tplnFA.4_uLwxO-I5Hlms7UDGDeI-7xRsc_NLCoD1Yn1ciLy9M&dib_tag=se&keywords=mic+spacer&qid=1732398403&sprefix=mic+spacer%2Caps%2C287&sr=8-9
@gideonmojica depends how close you have the v mount plate, how tall the battery is, and how the plate is mounted. I general, I've found it's not in the way while the handle is already on, but it can get in the way sometimes when attaching and detaching the handle because it slides into the MI shoe.
@@itmeremy Thanks! I was curious about this since it extends back out quite a bit, I usually have my battery plate up against the back of the body, but i'll just have to leave more room in between when using this!
@gideonmojica fair enough, you should still be able to have it all or most of the way up close, you just might have to move it if you want to remove or attach the handle
It really doesn't fix the problem. We've seen breakages even with this attached. It does not stop the flex. We are not posting here to promote our products, but the fact remains that our Top Handle solution prevents the breaks, period! It's a bigger investment, granted. But a small price to pay in my view as a user, before being a maker.
@RigidPRO I agree that products like yours that attach the handle further back are likely to be more rigid, and they obviously have other benefits such as the weight and power distribution. But this handle extension does stop the flex because it prevents the back and bottom of the handle from moving in relation to each other by connecting them. As purely a handle solution, I think this works phenomenally, and its also still extremely easy to remove the handle since it still only attaches to the camera using the standard screws. Now I obviously haven't tried your products or the Cineback that I mentioned in this video, so I can't say from experience. Also, quick question about your power distribution system. Do you have any plans to add more different ports to power other things? Dtap is great but having a couple of USB-C or DC ports could help a lot. Or even somehow including an internal battery to allow for V mount hot swapping
Thank Remy for this DETAILED video review of SmallRig Audio handle extension & SmallRig Hawklock cage.
Those Nisi’s are looking good!

How do you get the rodemic to fit flush and not have lots of handling noise?

When you have the vmount battery attached at the back of the body, does the back of the xlr handle extension get in the way?

works with old cage with new top XLC handle smailrig hawklock?
@91pimtim yes, the handle extension just attaches to the handle so it'd work with no cage and probably most other cages
Cool
