How to buy this camera
If you really think about it, it zooms in counterclockwise because of where it’s from. In Japan they read in the opposite direction, so the zoom would be counterclockwise to suite them better. It’s clockwise for us because that’s how we are used to reading and our daily life. Makes sense that they would make the zoom to suite them first.
Yeah but aren't Sony and Sigma both Japanese companies?
@@itmeremy they are but I’m guessing one worries more about the foreign markets than the other. Atleast with something as small as the direction of the zoom lens. It could be as simple as whoever designed the lens annoyed to zoom in the opposite direction than what they are used to.
@@eliflores8845 yeah that's likely

Pretty much have the same A7IV build with the v-mount and smallrig gear bro. Just waiting for my new stuff to arrive! How do you find running A7IV and FX30? I’m gonna have a watch of your FX30 rig too but would love to know if you feel it does as good a job as the FX3 for your workflow ☺️🤙🏽🎉
Nice! I think the FX30 and a7IV work well together. I've never used the FX3 but it's pretty much the same except for the sensor. I do usually prefer the FX30 over the a7IV unless I particularly need full frame. But Cine EI, monitoring LUTs in camera and the ergonomics all just make the FX30 better
I recommend overexposing +1.7 inside and +1 outside for run and gun beginners and using metering mode "entire screen".
So I bought like cheap 15 key 3 knob keypad from china, and I need some guidance on what keys would be best to set up to use with davinci resolve...
Just think about all the most common things you do, or the things that would speed up your workflow. I have split at playhead, ripple delete, delete, and play/pause set to buttons on my mouse
Can you teach us how? I end up out focus after zoom in/out and it takes seconds to re focus
It could be the lens not being close to parfocal but I think the biggest thing to look at here would be the AF speed settings
Nice rig 👍🏻
How do you have external powersupply cuz a7iv doesnt charge while recording
It definitely does. Or may it doesn't go up in battery but it just prevents it from going down. It depends on the power supply and cable though.
Whent from charging $80/h to $500/h
Great video! It might just be me, but is there a way to screw in the filter so the ND strength markings are at the top instead of the bottom or side?
Thanks. Where the markings are seems to be determined by the thread on the lens (or step up ring), on my 24-70mm it goes pretty much where it's supposed to with the markings on top, but on my 20mm with a step up ring, it's a bit off to the side
Very interesting thanks for sharing
thanks a lot, it helps me to start with my iv))
Thanks 🙏🏽
I really don't understand why the ND 4 stops filter doesn't have a front thread that would allow you to attach any softening filter
It's because it's a Swift system specific filter. So you can add any swift filter on the front like the 1/4 mist one in this kit. I get what you mean though, it'd be nice if you could screw on more filters but then I don't think the press on system would be able to work
@@itmeremy I must admit that I prefer the Tiffen mist to the Nisi, so the fact that I can't use the selected filter is frustrating. It is also strange because 1-5 stops have a normal thread
@mariohazard821 that's fair. You could always put your non swift filter behind the VND because you screw that one on. The non Swift VND will have a thread because it's just a normal screw on filter. The point of this system is to not have to screw filters on as much. The Swift VND has a thread on the back because it's the base of the system and something has to screw directly into the lens
What makes it hybrid
It's pretty even between its photo and video capabilities so it's aimed to be used for both
Inanimate objects can't have character. Character is a trait of living beings with higher consciousness who can express themselves. Lenses may exhibit certain traits, but attributing “character” to inanimate objects is simply misguided.
This has been a thing with lenses for far longer than since I had the idea for this video, it's not a new thing. And sure, maybe by definition "character" refers to traits on an individual, but we've been using the term to describe inanimate objects for years. For example, if a house has some cracks in the walls, people might say that it gives it character. Plus, one could also argue that the camera itself is often a character in films, so the traits that it's image has, often caused by the lens, could absolutely be called character.
@@itmeremy While it's common in casual speech to use the word “character” to describe the traits of inanimate objects, it's more accurate to use terms like traits, look, or vibe. We should avoid anthropomorphizing inanimate objects and avoid romanticizing the gear.
@AbdonPhirathon who's to say we "should" do anything? The meanings of words evolve all the time, whether it's proper or not. Personification and anthropomorphism are very common so I don't think it's something we "should" avoid in this specific case
@@itmeremy Saying ‘who’s to say we “should” do anything?’ is a cop-out. Just because there are no prescriptive rules in speech doesn’t mean we should simply do or say anything we want. This is borderline deflection from the original comment, and you’re relying on fallacies and false equivalencies to make your point. People today want to focus on mood and aesthetics over real substance. Actual craftsmanship in filmmaking doesn’t require us to romanticize gear.
@AbdonPhirathon I'm not saying we should romanticise gear, but I also don't think there's anything wrong with liking the technical side of the craft, which includes the equipment. I only mentioned the thing about the word "should" because you used it in a context where I don't think it was necessary and you were stating a way you think people should talk as if it were an undeniable fact. I also don't think any of this is that serious, people say lenses have character and I don't think that's going to change any time soon.
I was waiting to hear about the famed 3D pop some lenses are said to have.
Mmm, I have heard about that. I literally watched a video from Cam Mackey yesterday where he mentioned barrel distortion on anamorphics can give that effect
Yeah I remember hearing about this and thinking isn't it all 2D 😂
Love vintage glass and wonder since the beginning, what the je ne sais quoi is in some of them. A lot is about the right balance of local and global contrast. The color etc. You also have to respect their age and give them some light. But then there is a magic sometimes you can't explain with theory. It can be the color, it can be the dimensionality, or the subtle contrast. It is just a fun to explore this, i can't explain my friends and family, recommending me a modern zoom.
I totally agree, some lenses just hit different and you can't put your finger on why. It's also a thing where back in the film days, lenses needed to be clean to make up for the imperfections of film. But now that digital sensors are so clean, we kind of want to go the other way and use glass to give it a look and dirty it up, rather than choosing different film stocks
"Character is an excuse for a bad lens" - I love this and agree. Watched this whole thing, and will run back and watch some others to give you some watch time.
Thanks, I appreciate that
Should I buy an 82mm for all my lenses? My smallest lens is 55 mm
I think it more depends on what your biggest lens is. I think it's a good idea to get filters in the size of your biggest lens (or biggest lens you're likely to get in the future) because bigger filters work fine on smaller lenses, but not the other way around. If you do get 82mm, just get a step up ring to 82mm from the sizes of each of your other lenses. I wouldn't recommend stacking step up rings
Speed EDITor... that works.. not on the edit page.. but on the cut page.... should be called, speed cutter.

are the nisi drop in filters the only ones that are compatible with the lens? i want a vnd drop in but nisi doesnt offer one unfortunately. looking at the breakthrough vnd drop in filter but cant find any sort of specs/technical info that says what filters are supported.
My understanding is they are the only ones that work with this system. They do definitely have a VND for it, I'm just not sure if it's shipping yet. But it's definitely on the Australian version of their website. I actually just looked up the breakthrough ones and they look like they might work but I would definitely confirm before buying them.
😮
Hi ! Nice. It’s possible to put the VND after the Mist filter ?
Not with this system, no. The VND is threaded like any other filter, the additional filters (mist, ND16) have the press on function and no threads at all
@@itmeremy so now I don't understand, I put a normal black mist 1.8 on the lens and screwed a nisi nd filter on it, and it holds :-)
@vladkafilms yeah that makes sense. Most regular filters will have a thread on both sides so another mist filter would technically work, underneath the Swift VND. But you wouldn't be able to put a Swift system filter behind the VND
@@itmeremy thank you 🙂
Just randomly came across this vid and everything was perfect, from the thought out angles, focus length, color grade, and sound design with music was on point🎥🎬🤌🏽
Nice video very helpful 👍
Wish 6inch was a thing
subway have a whole range.
There are some 6" monitors, they're just not as common. I know Feelworld has 1 or 2, Portkeys might also have one, they do exist
Feelworld have the LUT6 which is the same as the 5 or 7inch versions.
I'm confused should I go with a cinematic camera or a camera like a6000 I'm a beginner that want to take photo and video
If you're trying to do both photo and video and fairly similar levels, I'd suggest a hybrid camera like the a6700 or similar. It obviously depends on a lot of things, though, the biggest one being your budget, so I can't really give any direct recommendations
@@itmeremy $700 is my limit, but maybe I need to sell my dslr first to raise the budget, I also has old sony handycam I wonder if it's still working or not I forget it existence ever since mobile phone could record video lol
@exyronylfa there's not much you can get for that price these days. Definitely won't be able to get a cinema camera. I'd suggest looking at some 2nd hand mirrorless options
@@itmeremy you are right, I'm discovering zv e10, maybe save up a bit and grab it was good idea
Well that was the smoothest thumbnail to the video autoplaying I've seen
Thank you, that was the goal
Omg ! Thank you for the tip on the rotating base ! I had no idea because I love shooting vertical.
How about the durability of that top handle? can it carry a fully rigged out fx30?
It can, I have a smallrig extension on mine which I think adds a lot of strength to it so I'd recommend some kind of extension and top plate
@@itmeremy Im worried if too much weight and stress would break the base of the top handle.
@jamesbriones1522 I get that. That does seem to be the weakest part. I've never had any issues and even with my new rig with a 99wh v mount battery it seems to be fine
@@itmeremy Thanks for your feedback! Much Appreciate it!
I think you explained too much about the differences between brands/features. The topic about 5" vs 7" starts at 07:06 until 09:32 which basically make it a 2.5 minutes video.
I don't think so. While I did use those as examples, the general themes are pretty common among most brands, particularly about IO and stuff, generally, larger monitors will have more, but it's not a rule. I think features are definitely relevant to this conversation because there are often other differences between different sized monitors other than the screen dimensions
@@itmeremy Agreed! Thank you for making this video.
Seems cool
😮🔥
I recently sold my Ninja V for the Accsoon 4K. Having an iPhone or iPad as a monitor screen is way better just because of screen calibration. You should try
Hmm, interesting. I used a phone as my monitor for a while before I got my Ninja V, but I much prefer a proper monitor to that. Maybe an ipad or phone with a very good screen could be good but if you're using your actual phone, it's harder to use it for other things you might need it for. I personally can't rationalise not having a dedicated monitor if you can
@@itmeremy exactly ! And that’s why I want to get an iPad mini now :). Imagine with the new iPad Pro screen
@@Chips-Lab that's fair, I could see that being quite useful
when I use my phone as monitor my clients will mock me, clients like the european commission
@@jpegflipper7930 that's a fair point
Can never get my head around people using 7 inches for on-camera monitoring - But I'm all for whatever works best for each shooter. 5 is all i personally need for monitoring shots. I often don't even use a monitor, i prefer an EVF as I shoot on the shoulder more than from the hip - but its all about trial and error for each shooter.
Fair enough. I'm kind of the opposite, I never use an EVF (maybe I would on a proper cinema camera, but on a mirrorless, I don't like it) and I've only had a 5" monitor until recently and I much prefer the larger one. Maybe on a shoulder rig when it's closer to my face I could see smaller being better, and obviously the scenarios I mentioned in the video.
Never tried a 5 inch, but after using my on-camera monitor for manual focus (gh5), i immediately jumped to 7 inch just from the frustration of being always a little off with the focus
@desotaku5202 totally fair, basically any external monitor will be an improvement over the built in screen
@@itmeremy yeah and i was scared that 5 inches wouldnt be enough of a difference. thats probably why so many people immediately opt for 7 inch, because of camera screen trauma lol
Those of us over 50 need the extra real estate to see what's actually going on. :)
