“Thinnest Apple product ever made” false, the Apple sticker I get in the box of my iPhone is the thinnest
That’s an accessory 😅
Lol. Good one.
Yet they still kept the hideous camera bump
My Apple Card is thinner
@chidorirasenganz accessories are still products 😂
Apple: "We'll [happily] recycle your old Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard for free. :)"
*coughs* legally required to do so in most countries *coughs*
For my daughter's iPad I bought her some aftermarket "Apple Pen" for $20, and it works perfectly fine.
(and the fun part was when I wrapped it for Christmas. Along with the Apple Pen, I included a ballpoint pen and a pineapple-shaped luggage tag in the same package. Figure out the reference...)
You mean sell it as a refurb
They should have enabled 2nd gen pencil on the new iPad Pros
Rich people actually do this.
this event basically killed the iPad. you now need a chart to decide which keyboard and pencil you need to get for your iPad… it’s so dumb. i miss the days of like 3 iPads and one apple pencil
I'm only concerned about the Apple Pencil change, even that isn't a huge deal to me. It is annoying for folks upgrading that need to buy a new Pencil too - if they use it. Keyboards are basically model specific anyway - even third party. Sucks you can reuse those either since those are more expensive than a Pencil.
Alot of their product range is like this now. I literally had to do this for the new iPads 🙃
There are millions of people like me who just need a fking iPad mini with OLED display to watch media on the go. A device that is portable enough to carry around, light enough to hold for long hours and an amazing display to watch Netflix. Phones are too small for watching videos, the mini is just perfect. Why is Apple not catering to this category?
Because iPad Mini won’t fit in your pocket like a phone… and if you want something bigger then just get the 11 inch. That’s how most people feel.
@@RabianskiT The 11 inch iPad is quite heavy to hold, especially when you lie on your bed and watch videos holding the tablet in your hands. I have both the tabs mini and regular iPad and this is my experience.
@@ytuser1985
The newest 11 inch iPad Pro is very light…
@@ytuser1985
I get it though, you really like iPad Mini. However, Apple looks at the sales and sees it as a NICHE product. Do you remember what happened with iPhone Mini? 😅
@@RabianskiT I have an iPad mini which fits easily in the pocket in my cargo shorts. Buying a 13" Pro as I want to use it on long flights instead of my MBP's.
Every presentation is more robotic than the last. "we couldn't be more excited" read in the least excited voice imaginable

I’m happy I wasn’t the only one thinking that. He seemed very bored to be doing the presentation
"Good morning. -_-"
I was not in front of the screen at the very beginning of the event and I was thinking from the kitchen that they made an AI generated event because the voice sounds like ……………
Agreed!
iPad pros all need to come with Cellular for that price. $+200 for cellular is insane
Nah
and you can't even call on the speakerphone atleast. auto hotspot is a thing we all know works really well.
Why would you not use a Hotspot instead? I've not purchased a cellular iPad unless my carrier is providing a deal.
@@TheTechOrc exactly

I've given up on Apple.... keeping my 2012 Macbook Pro and my old 2018 iPad Air until they die or explode. Apple can bite me. Done.
9:38 that's where Apple wins. They can pull whatever bad move they feel like it and people are still gonna buy it.
Bruh…he is a tech youtuber
The iPad Pro 2018 is like the GTX 1080 ti. It was just too good and set the bar too high.
To illustrate just how legendary the 1080 ti is, it's being mentioned in a video about iPad.
I agree 🙋🏻♂️ (writing from my 2018 iPad Pro)
I still bought the 4090 and didn't regret it though. If people can, they will.
IPAD pro 2018 design is timeless.
The 2018 was so good it killed the iPad
It's crazy how Apple's extremely clean product family became so bloated. Multiple generations of iPads in multiple overlapping product lines with a random set of processors mixed and matched between generations, 4 Apple Pencils and even the MacBook has a bunch of hidden spec variation depending on what version you get. Having to spend time double checking whether different CURRENTLY SOLD products are compatible with each other goes wildly against Apple's "it just works" philosophy.
The iPad is a wasted product line that's held back by its OS, the A12z from 2018's is _still_ overpowered for everything the device can do. I hope someone makes a competent tablet soon because Apple has gotten incredibly lazy with theirs.
Most confusing is that Ipad mini costs more than Ipad. It looks like Apple is trying to eliminate base Ipad alltogether leaving only Mini with mobile processor, then Air and Pro just like Macbook
I use the 2018 iPad pro while travelling for work. i have never had any complaints and no reason to upgrade because nothing after it released felt better. i just use a third party keyboard with it and while typing can be a bit of a hassle, its taken over my current laptop as an alternative device to work on. They really need to overhaul the os which I’m guessing they will never do because the sales of the MacBook will take a serious hit. Otherwise, like you said, whats the point of having an M1 or higher if you cant use the full potential of it.
Why do you say the OS is holding it back? Apps make people productive, not the OS. The OS is merely there to host apps, which it does quite well. Nobody is made productive dragging files around.
@@techinrl9869I completely disagree with your statement. ipadOS is very restrictive compared to macOS despite the ipad having the same internals as a macbook air. I would want to dock the ipad and add a keyboard so i can program, use the terminal, download what i want..etc and not be restricted to apps i get on iphone save for a few exceptions
@@techinrl9869 Its holding it back because you cant run macOS apps or have to run cut down versions of it.
Couldn't agree more. Price is excessive, I don't care what chip they decide to use or how thin it is...
I think making the old pencil/keyboard incompatible with the new ipads has more to do with preventing new ipad owners from buying used peripherals
For reference, on the European market the bigger iPad Pro full spec with pencil and keyboard costs 3600€ . With that price, I can literally buy a used car.
i bought a used, good car for 500€.
Does this car have tandem Oled with 1TB Storage??
Last time I bought a used car for that kind of money was 25 years ago.
or 10 ladas for that iPad Pro
And starting at €1220 for just the 11inch without any accessories.
The prices are just insane and little to no one will want to spend this kind of money on a tablet.
Either next iPad OS is completely revolutionary or you are better off with a Macbook Air.
Yep, that’s exactly where I’m at. I’m really hoping iPad OS can match the power of these things but I’m not getting my hopes up.
@@SilentSzZ Notice iPAD releases before iPad OS, suspicious AF.

@@PeterbFree Oleds do not have poor colour accuracy. I'm a professional filmmaker and personally use a 4k 120hz 10 bit (NATIVE not simulated with frc) OLED 42 inch display as my primary monitor. This display is very common amongst post production houses.
Also that's not true at all, Sony sells an oled reference monitor. It's like $37000. You're wrong on every front.
What if you don’t want a laptop or pc 😊
I'm not overwhelmed or underwhelmed. Just whelmed.
Hahaha
iPad Air is pretty compelling - basically just a cheaper version of last gen Pro with a few tweaks. Not sure about the OLED on the iPad Pro, need to see it in person before making a call on that, but it needs to be darn impressive to justify the price hike. Using the M4 probably means they won't be refreshing it anytime soon - my guess is at least 2 years. Certainly overpowered for anything today, might be more useful after a few OS and app updates.
About the Apple Pencil compatibility: it is probably due to the new landscape camera layout and they have to change the magnets/charging mechanism.
Yes
Apple about to have a bendgate 2.0 when these iPad Pros start bending in people's backpacks
we need jerry to do this test im already waiting
Backpacks will kill this iPad. Crazy. Not fun to get the $2,699 version suddenly coming out bent right after the warranty expires.
Exactly what I thought. How thin does a device have to be??
@@telcobillypaper thin.
Wouldn't that be 3.0? The new design ipad pros introduced in 2018 had bending issues as well. I can only imagine how these new thinner ones will fare.
Any M1 & M2 iPad owners should not waste their money.
Can say the same if you own a 9 or 10 gen basic Ipad also.
I partly agree but will “upgrade nonetheless. I use it every single day and on top of that ill get (way) more storage this time, yea yea the nonupgradabilty got me…
Most people with a pro from 2018 and on probably won't need to upgrade.

I actually just sold my iPad Pro M2 for a refurbished M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 in and have 0 regrets. Don't get me wrong, I loved my iPad, but man it just felt so restricted with iPad os. I won't going back to an iPad anytime soon.
Same here. iPadOS is the reason I won’t buy one of these.
Apple should have looked at Samsung dex and given more of a desktop experience when connected to the Magic Keyboard. I have the m1 iPad Pro 12.9 and honestly just use it for my kids doing their homework, playing Roblox or media consumption. This device is wayyy overpriced for the average end user who isn’t a video editor or a digital artist.
I have both MBP and iPad, they are for different tasks.
And macos can use ios apps!
@@Y-J65why buy an iPad if you want PC experience though. The power is clearly advocated to artist and animators for 3d rendering and animation
People wanted the FaceID in the landscape orientation, this meant that the charging coil design for the apple pencil had to change, hence why the old pencil doesn't work with the new iPads and the new pencil doesn't work with the old iPads. I would say they technically could work with the screen but since there's no way to charge and therefore pair the pencil on the iPad, they just decided it was easier to say it doesn't work.
Thank you for the explanation.
The dumbest thing about the iPad Air? It is now heavier than the iPad Pro. The entire point of the Air was that it was lighter and slimmer than the regular iPad. Now it is heavier and thicker. Oh, and it also has a two year old CPU.
That's coz you're not a genius that uses apple products
@@Kevin-mx4vmTim Cook's burner account spotted 😆
I thought the point was not being as expensive as pro versions.
The old cpu is what used to be the pro versions cpu.
@@manart6506 well it is in the name. Ipad AIR
iPad Air got the best upgrades. The base is now 128GB, which is actually usable. Before it was a crippling 64GB, which meant almost everyone needed to pay for the upgrade. So it's probably cheaper for most people. You get the M2 chip, which is more power than 99.5% of us can actually make use of on a tablet OS. And now there is the 13" model so artists, students and musicians can have some screen area at a reasonable price.
The only thing keeping me from buying an air is the lack of promotion display. I'm spoiled by the higher refresh rate lol
Tbh as an ipad air user the only thing I really want is pro motion my a14 ipad air never has problems with speed or storage but damn do i wish i had that 120hz

I'm Really glad Luke mentioned the artists and creators in this video since a lot of other tech youtubers shrug the updates off as "Lame/pointless" But for those of us who use Procreate/dreams + So many other creative apps the M4 and new pencil features are enough for someone like myself to upgrade from another Pro as soon as the reviews come out regardless of the software.
Working on huge art projects at a high res really makes even the current pro chug and third party Desktop drawing displays just don't feel great to use. Super happy about these!
8GB of Ram for a $1300 13inch iPad with a binned M4, and $1900 just to be able to get 16GB and 1TB of storage that no iPad users need, all without including the price of the pencil and the keyboard; brilliant Apple, absolutely amazing.
Just like the upgrades of the iphones, macbooks, mini's. Typical Apple time and again.
My current iPad is 512GB and it is always full so I have to move things out… and with a more powerful iPad I would create more files with more resolution and heavier files.
Oh good I thought I was the only one that was underwhelmed. All the other tech TH-camrs are just drooling for some reason. It’s nice that we got OLED, but what do we need a M4 for? It’s the same chassis except extra thins. That way there’s more chance to bend it, the bezels didn’t get any smaller and the price got larger so why is everybody so hyped?
Underwhelmed - perfect word.

All these improvements over the M1 seem weak to me where it’s hard to unlock the power.
It’s pretty easy if do creative tasks or game
It’s still merely a doodling device that’s built like a powerful laptop. iPadOS is the reason I won’t buy another one.
And the thing is, those who are professional will mostly be looking at the MacBook Pro’s for their power and full array of desktop apps.
It’s all good having an iPad with the M4. But that doesn’t mean using Z-Brush is going to be any less clunky with iPadOS capabilities, photoshop is still missing a load of features that the desktop/mac versions have and gaming really isn’t an issue. Mirage will still play at 30fps, Genshin will still be the benchmark which kills your iPad in 1.5 hours and things like procreate will still be absolutely amazing on every iPad with the new 11/12.9 inch design.
The iPad Air 13” is coming too late, but is arguably the real star of the show, it will mean the biggest demographic of iPad users (students and casual users) can have a 13” iPad without needing to pay for power they will literally never use, until recently I worked in an Apple Store here in the UK, and out of the hundreds of iPads I sold each year only about 5% were for pro users looking for the best. Most people I met looking for an iPad were either students or older people who only went for the pro because it had a large screen for ease of use/procreate and note taking and not for the power inside.
The iPad Pro will never be pro without a major overhaul of IPadOS, unfortunately that won’t happen because then it will be a direct competitor for the Mac lineup and Apple want them to be two distinctive devices. Hardware wise with the new aluminium Magic Keyboard and 13” inch size, the Pro is just a worse battery life touchscreen 13” MacBook without MacOS or a calculator…
@@GNz11R3dSh1ft just depends on the professional. Nomad and Valance are two 3d programs that in many ways eat z brush and blender’s lunch. Procreate Dreams is arguably the best 2d animation software out atm. Let alone the Affinity suite and Darkroom. For music you have logic pro, patterning, aum etc
As for gaming don’t forget mac ports come to iPad as well so RE village, Death Stranding etc. As well as new games like zone zenless zero
A big update would make it feel less snappy in the OS.
Personally, I was offended how the iPad mini was treated like a stepchild. It always has been treated as such, but today it was evident they don’t care about that mighty little device. It’s evident they are killing iPad mini by making the iPad 10th gen $200 cheaper than the mini. It’s so unfortunate. The iPad mini is the truest definition of what a tablet should be.
same with the 4” iphone or the mini. it’s shameful.
Some people have a misunderstanding that smaller device should be cheaper. Last Mini was not because they didn't skimp on the hardware. In computers, many times the "small" version goes for a premium.

Giving up on iPad Pro. I sold my 12.9” M1 and am just keeping the Mini. Tired of the OS holding the hardware back. As soon as the announcement ended, I ordered the Minisforum V3 which runs full Windows 11 with 32Gb of RAM and a 1Tb SSD for $1199. All I want from the iPad Pro is the ability to dual boot into MacOS.
Sold my 12” too and kept the mini. The mini is such a great device. There’s no need for me to get a new iPad anytime soon. At those prices, its smart to hold onto them for 5 or more years.
wise decision. yeah.... it doesn't run macOS and... I think it never will. But that's sooo funny coz apple is trying to make it into a real PC...
You should do 30 seconds of research into "Minisform + bios update" and then realize you traded a device with ~8 years of software updates for one which comes from a company which ships devices with known UEFI problems that are never resolved.
I have a MinisForum UN1260. I'll give you an hour to find the drivers for it.
(Hint 1: Windows 11 doesn't resolve at least 7 major drivers on its own.)
(Hint 2: MinisForum strips driver listings from their pages after Windows releases a new "H" version... regardless of whether or not they're still for sale. So, when 24H2 releases, everything released with 23H2 will be removed. Windows typically releases twice a year, meaning 22H1 would only last until 22H2's release *the same year*.)
Best update ever - much better than expected. I ordered the base model 11" iPad Pro Wi-Fi.
Memo to Apple marketing. Sometimes it's a fine line between opportunistic and evil. You have crossed into evil territory with the now current Apple pencil lineup. Also, When a product line starts to look this cluttered and confused, you are doing it wrong.
Just crossed? They have crossed that territory in 2017...
@@tiadaid They tend to teeter back and forth across that line. This is by no means the first time and likely won't be the last.
Their marketing has always been a bit hit and miss in other ways. The differentiation between the various versions of the M1 processor for example was poor. Which wasn't fixed until the M3 variants.
The iPad is like driving a Ferrari in stop and go traffic. If it had an actual operating system it would be like taking it to the track.

I think the Ferrari is in the track. But people want macOS and to me that would be like wanting to do Fast & Furious chases.
Hello, artist here! I do commission work professionally and I can NEAR assure you that nobody wanted any of this, I can only really think that 3D artists would like the new Apple pencils tilt.
But IPAD OS is so limited that they can’t actually use programmes that they would be able to benefit from it with either way. Most digital artists can get a Wacom and an infinitely more powerful PC for rendering 3D images/ using toon boom or whatever.
A whole extra £150 to squeeze the barrel instead of double tapping.
(Because the Apple Pencil 2 can also open up menus you map it to) I got my Drawing tablet for £30 second hand and it’s a full OLED panel double the size of my IPad.
And the pen comes as standard.
I use my iPad Air 4 and an Apple Pencil 2 and it’s perfect for traditional art. This isn’t for artists either, it’s too expensive, what artist do you know was more than £100 to their name be for realsies.
Agree with 100%..
I was waiting for this event, still using an A12z iPad Pro 11" and can't find a reason to upgrade.
And honestly, the more time goes by, the less I use my iPad, really thinking of getting rid of it and just save the money to get the M4 Pro Mac when it'll be available (upgrading my M1 Pro 16").

The magnets and charge points in the new pencil are in a different place than the apple pencil 2. Moving the camera to the side is the reason you can't use the apple pencil 2.
Of all the changes apple makes that's actually a very respectable reason to stop support of the 2. And they didn't raise the price. What we can then question is that the pencil 2 didn't get an official price decrease. But at least it has been discounted for a long time on 3rd party stores.
Was going to post this thought and see someone already did.
yup i had this exact thought while watching the video. Bit concerning Luke didn’t manage to put the two together and just instead pointed it to Apple being Greedy 😔
Doesn't explain why you can't use the new Pencil on the old iPad Pros with the same chipset as the new Air.
@@SoulK37 Yes it does. The charge point is in a different place on the new pencil, so it will only work with the new iPads, which have the pencil magnets and charging in the new location. The old iPad Pros have the charge point in the wrong place for the new pencil.
A easyer to bend iPad?
Great analysis, Luke. When the M1 iPad Pro was released I bought it and was so excited about all the cool features they’d announce at WWDC. I’ve never been so underwhelmed in my life.
Its 0.1 mm thinner! I am sold.
Right? Honestly, who cares if it is thinner, it is just more likely to bend. And they just forgot to mention, that they removed one camera for no reason although they are marketing spacial video for the Apple Vision Pro (and are rearranging the cameras on their phones for that reason (rumors)?), but that thing isn't going to sell well soon as long as there is no real use for that. This is the new "Think different."
Luke i think the reason why the new apple pencil pro is only compatible with the new ipads is because the the magnetic docking and charging strip on the old appple pencil is perfectly aligned to the centre of the ipads side. Where the new cameras are placed for the ipad pro/air. This is probably the reason they said that only the Apple pencil pro and the usb-c apple pencil are compatible with the new ipads. And the same reason why the 10th gen ipad was incompatible with the second gen apple pencil even though it got the redesign. The magstrip interferes when placing thr cameras in a horizontal orientation
Imagine if a trillion dollar company had the ability to design its products to be compatible with its old products.
Yeah they actually briefly mentioned in the event that they had to redesign the Apple Pencil charger. So that makes a lot of sense, I think since they also didn’t even raise the price on the new Apple Pencil, it was pretty fair all things considered
I have the iPad Air 2nd gen that I bought 9 years ago. Still works great for most things. In '22 I bought the 5th gen iPad Air & still love it. Plenty fast enough for me. Other than a few apps, I mainly use them for media consumption. When the iPad Pro first came out, I reaaaaly wanted it -- but after nearly a decade of using an iPad, I'm glad I didn't. As you say, the "Pro" models aren't meant for me. Anything artistic I want to do, I use my desktops for. If I was going to spend that much, I'd just get a new M4 Mini (when and if they ever come out with it.)
They removed the second camera as well!!!
Hey Luke - The reason for the Pencil issues is the Landscape camera. They had to change the charging and magnets.
and I really did say before the event that a Pencil Pro was coming.
Next comes the Pencil Ultra, the Pencil Max and then the 8-foot-long Pencil Ultra Max.
I have been using the ipad pro 2018 with the magic keyboard and pencil 2. It has started to slow down on some heavy duty tasks. I was sure I’m gonna upgrade to the M4 pro but I hate the fact that I’ll have to get a new keyboard and a pencil. I don’t want to sell them at a throwaway price so was thinking I’ll get the M2 air(i know pencil won’t work). But then I realised that m2 air doesn’t have pro motion. So does it make sense to get an m2 pro at a discount. If my 2018 ipad pro works decently, I’m sure 2022 m2 pro would still be a beast… and my Magic Keyboard and apple pencil would still be useful…
I think the Apple Pencil issue is that they and to change the magnets because of the landscape camera. I agree its unfortunate though - I’ll stick with my iPad mini 6
What was the last time one of us thought the iPad was too thick to handle :(
When you add a Magic Keyboard 😅
Seriously I don't understand why we need it to be any thinner. If anything I'd rather be a bit thicker to get better battery
It literally had rigidity issues with how thin it was, and now they're making it even thinner? Doesn't make sense to me.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 exactly. I need to charge my M2 iPad Pro atleast once a day if I plan on doing any sort of gaming on it.
Guys, guys. It does make sense because if makes the iPad lighter.
i ordered the 13” Pro with 1 TB, wi-if+cellular immediately. The hardware is incredibly impressive and I find good value even with the current iPadOS. I use the iPad as a mobile counterpart to my overly equipped desktop Mac. I also use the iPad as my primary media consumption device. This new screen will make that far more enjoyable. I believe WWDC will bring exciting enhancements to iPadOS that will benefit from the M4 chip. If not, there’s always next year as the M4 will still be current.
Totally agree Luke. I love ❤️ my iPad Pro 12.9 Gen and I am keeping it! Also have an iPad 9 gen. Absurd prices! Way out of my budget. I am retired and on a fixed income.

As for somebody who only uses it for Procreate I was SERIOUSLY underwhelmed. Hell, even the new pencil isn't backwards compatible with my "ancient" M1 iPad Pro. I watched the whole presentation, and what a SERIOUS yawn fest!!
I am looking for an IPad, but I don’t need a pro one. So I waited for the Event, I hope fore some discounts for older models. 😀 I agree the comparison m2 to M4 makes it very difficult to guess the real impact. I am not disappointed, because I stopped expecting too much. I am not sure this is a good sign for apple. 🤷♂️
I need help in making a decision on which macbook to get, the first option is a 2019 16inch with an intel i9, 4tb storage, 64gb ram and an 8gb Radeon 5500 graphics card. The second option is an m1 with 16gb of ram and 512 ssd.
The thing is, those who are professional will mostly be looking at the MacBook Pro’s for their power and full array of desktop apps.
It’s all good having an iPad with M4. (Might I add without the need to buy a brand new Apple Pencil)
The iPad Air 13” is coming too late, but is arguably the real star of the show, it will mean the biggest demographic of iPad users (students and casual users) can have a 12.9/13” iPad without needing to pay for power they will literally never use, until recently I worked in an Apple Store here in the UK, and out of the hundreds of iPads I sold each year only about 5% were for pro users looking for the best and most powerful. Most people I met looking for an iPad were either students or older people who only went for the pro because it had a large screen for ease of use/procreate and note taking, not for the power inside.
The iPad Pro will never be pro without a major overhaul of IPadOS, unfortunately that won’t happen because then it will be a direct competitor for the Mac lineup and Apple want them to be two distinctive devices. Hardware wise with the new aluminium Magic Keyboard and 13” inch size, the Pro is just a touchscreen 13” MacBook with less battery life and without MacOS or a calculator, while also somehow being more expensive…
yepp, my use case for an ipad is media consumption and casual gaming, for serious stuff I have dedicated machines so a bumped up ipad air is just fine
@@misx80 yep, that is my use case for my iPad aswell, light gaming, web searches, music, maybe some procreate and mainly content consumption. And if I want oled I have an 83” TV for that. So the air is a no brainer for me.
I’m disabled, I’m reinventing myself with 3D Modeling, I do everything on the iPad because I am not forced to be limited to a desk. I have a 2018 iPad Pro and it has been a game changer. Some of the software is running slow. This will up my productivity and my freedom to work anywhere.
$1299 is cheap for something you use all the time
@@DuBstep115 absolutely agree.
So, one reason that I am particularly excited for it and did buy one is actually the purchase that you made. Specifically, I have a 13 inch M1 pro that I find gets minimal proper iPad use because of its size and weight, but I insisted on buying it at the time because I wanted the mini LED screen. So now this time I’m switching to the 11 inch which I think will be an improvement.
As a non-iPad owner I’m still excited to see that tandem OLED tech because I think that’ll be coming to the MBP at some point 😊
The question is... why would you buy a new iPad Air over the 5th gen? It's $100 cheaper right now on Amazon, and you're only missing WiFi 6E, "new" colors, a *slightly* faster M2 chip, 128GB, and the landscape camera. I feel like those are all very small updates that aren't worth the money.
landscape camera is something I really appreciate. but 800$ for a 60hz display is bonkers. it is even more noticeable in a big display.
@@VarunSrinivas It’s only $600 for the 11” model, but still.
@@hunterbsmith i was talking about the 13 inch one.. 11 inch is still the one that would sell the most I suppose.
Those "small updates" are usually ridiculously expensive at Apple, so the new iPad Air could indeed be very much worth buying. The large model is also a bargain when compared to the iPad Pro.
@@Workaholic42 That’s a good point. The 13” model is very different. If you’re looking at the 11” then I think for me I’d save the money!
Apple has lost its soul with these online keynotes! They should bring back the folks that actually worked on these products and put them on a stage and let them geek out a bit like they used to
Perhaps but that train transition would be hard to pull of live.
Still rocking my original first gen iPad Pro I picked up in 2016. Still does everything I need it to. I will probably use it until security updates stop coming out.
is the M1 iPad Pro good to buy right now instead of the new one?
that one rich friend that buys the nano-textured glass 💀💀💀
*edit wow thanks for so much likes
And gets the 2TB option
I don't get the nano-textured glass. Especially paying so much more for it. You are sacrificing text sharpness for less glair. Unless you are working outside or in strange light that you can in no way adjust, why?
Just get the standard glass and put a pencil focused textured glass protector on. No matter how Nano the Apple screen is, it's going to get scratched.
Even Huion drawing tablets are getting more and more appetizing 😂
and you can’t even apply a screen protector to a nano texture glass to prevent scratches that will inevitably come with using the pencil.
The reason for the iPad Pro to exist for the masses is so that people can say they own an iPad Pro. Then proceed to use it to watch TH-cam and Netflix, read the odd email and play Candy Crush.
absolutely the same with those big arse phones. “i got the iphone 20 pro ultra max giga humongous. 6000 bucks.”. to post their bullshit dances on tiktok.
Unless I missed it. Does the new pencil attach to the iPad with magnets like before? I cannot justify buying it due to the Os. For me, the ability to have a full version of Photoshop is a must.
Should I upgrade my 2017 ipad pro? Literally none of the new ones is comparable. Just for media watching the 2017 ipad pro has 120hz screen compared to the new air with only 60😢. This is insane.
They had to reposition the magnets because of the landscape camera position, which is probably why they had to create a whole new pencil.
apple pencil usb c is compatible with new devices and magic keyboard is compatible to air m2 so the one that using ipad air and upgrading to the new air dont need to buy anything if they already have it and in same price air is now 128 gb
and air have similar chip to last pro and they can buy 13 inch without going pro , for 90% users this is fantastic
6:04 to place the front camera horizontally, they’ve redesigned and rearranged the charging and magnets for the pencil so that it still stays centered in the bezel
I purchased the original iPad 1 when it first came out getting the 64GB (Highest) and cellular, which was $1000. Then the best screen protector and paid installation and the accessories and I am down about $1400.
That lasted me until I finally decided to get the iPad Air 1, again shelling out $1200. But this time I opt out of the Cellular and got 128GB instead of the max.
The new iPad Pro with M4 looks nice but you going to spend over $2500 if you want everything. I don't mind getting 1 or 2 generation below for a few hundred dollars.
@Luke Miani The new ipads have a different apple pencil charging system, because of the landscape camera the wireless charging coils had to be redesigned, hence the compatibility issue.
You could also flip your argument and say that it’s really cool that the non-pro iPads get all the features a non-pro person would want without having to upgrade higher.
You could argue the screen tech is better but 99% of non-pro people don’t care.
If I wasn't already spoiled by the promotion display in my 2018 pro I'd be buying the air for sure.
2024 new iPads released without oled and 120hz is inexcusable
The problem has been that many people think "pro" just means better and/or bigger. To me, "pro" means you should be using the device to make money or as part of your career/job - not just for Netflix and playing games. Mortals should stick with the normal iPad, or, if you _really_ are feeling spendy - iPad Air. But, in a sense, the Pro is a halo device for everyone else and it makes the iPad Air look downright reasonable.
I just priced out a 1 TB 13" iPad Pro (wifi) w/MKB and it was $150 less than my 14" Pro MBP with the 12/18/18/1 TB configuration. All of a sudden my MacBook seems like a great value.
Definitely not upgrading from my M1 11" iPad Pro any time soon. That thing still has a solid display and runs so fast and smooth. Honestly not even sure what it would take to make me upgrade at this point.
They still ain’t update the fucking iPad mini!!?? Nah put Tim Cook in jail at this point
Still tired of waiting. Dont even know if they will update it at this point. Hopefully they do soon.
i never understood the mini ipad, makes no sense to me but go ahead :)
i want WAY bigger iPad sutdios like 60" and more
@@gilbert512 prolly a M1 SE chip at this point 😂😂
@@JohnSmith-pn2vl feel like the iPad is minimalistic & can get an XDR display plus at least an M1 or M3 chip for all that size might as well get a 16 inch MacBook Pro it’s more powerful and serves a better purpose the iPad is kinda a thing for kids and artist and just to browse
Apple’s ’upgrades’ are getting more and more minute and elusive. Squint and you’ll miss how exactly these machines are supposed to be better. Disappointing.
We’re getting to a point where tech is so advanced already that improvement is slowing down significantly, they should focus on iPadOS if anything and bring this hardware to life
OLED display was pretty nice update, but also a price hike too. I'd have to see it in person to know if I care or not.
I AGREE. I like Apple products. I’ve been touting and buying them for years, even when I worked at MSFT. But I can only hope that this price upME is because there’s gonna be something special in the SW and its connection/control of the outside world… or perhaps specialties related to Vision Pro (you “need” the advanced iPad Pro to access these “hidden” functions in VPand VP2.??)… or Something
I love this take. My 11" M1 iPad Pro is already plenty. As long as iPad OS is what it is, any M series chip in an iPad is like having a jet on a runway that can't take off.
First world problems. I’ll be getting the super Pro because my 5-year old Pro is long in the tooth for doing music production
this are essential problems in music we will never ever have enough power, not in 100 years.
so thats not at all a first world problem, now the video folks and macOS crybabies, yes this is total first world problems
It's not that the upgrades are mid. It's the price that is outrageous and the value proposition is completely wrong.
I disagree. iPad Air update is pretty solid. Pros are only worth it if you plan to use it and/or _really_ value OLED. Probably first update in which the Pro will be only for Pros. This was the same problem with all the folks complaining about the Pro Display at $6k - all the mere mortals complained it was too expensive yet the real pros thought it was a bargain because a good reference monitor is $20k.
I don't understand what you're saying I think they're fairly priced
@@Kevin-mx4vmthis guy just said fairly priced? what the hell 😆
@6:00 its because of magnet and charger placement around the camera. they switched that with the 10th gen and the USB-C Pencil (this one is also notoriously not-sticky on the portrait-camera design ipads)
Apple did actually say the M3's CPU is 20% faster than the M2's CPU during the October 30 keynote
If M4 achieved 1.5x the M2's performance, and M3 achieved 1.2x the M2's performance, than if both statements by Apple are correct, and line up perfectly, we get a 25% performance jump going from the M3 to M4
I thought the M3 was a bit underwhelming - felt very skippable, so I'm glad the M4 is out, which means the Mac will be updated with the new chip soon enough.
If you are buying the magic keyboard you should buy a laptop instead. The entire point of the iPad is that it has a magic screen that you can interact with as if it was programmable paper. If you are going to connect it to a laptop keyboard, so that the screen is now hard to write on, hard to touch and has hardly any point.
If you have terrible chicken scratch then buy a cheap logitech that you can put *next* to the iPad and use it in a way that doesn't block you from fully accessing the iPad screen.
I was afraid about my purchasing the iPad Pro M2, 12.9” for Christmas with new iPads coming out soon. The only feature I’d upgrade for is if it could run native Apple silicon apps, or had full MacOS compatibility.
I have yet to really max out my iPad, running Logic for iPad, tons of plugins and instruments, massive track counts at a very low 64 buffer size.
Yeah, it was clear from the videos they were showing that they are now really targeting the “Pro” vs. the Hobbyist or Prosumer. I currently have an M2 Pro, but if I had to replace it, I would get the new Air. I dabble in Photography, Music Production and Procreate, but am not a Pro and could not justify the price. And now that you can get up to 1TB storage on the Air, that makes the decision easier. I would miss Pro Motion but imagine I would get used to it since I wouldn’t be using the two side-by-side.
You know what's the most disappointing? The fact that the Apple Pencil Pro isn't supported on the iPad Pro M2s! i eld off buying the 2nd Gen Pencil for so long, only to get a bummer. The morons aren't reducing the price of the outdated Pencil too smh.
There’s no old pencil for sale
@@chidorirasenganz it is... 4 pencils still on sale, imagine the lightning one is still available.
What? I heard that the iPad Air was compatible with it and thought, "oh good, should be compatible with M2 as well then". They have the same chip, and both support Hover. Oh well, not surprising, and I just sold my M2 anyways.
@@calebchristensenviolin IKR! I was so bummed when the Air supported it and the last gen Pro doesn't!
3rd party shops will surely try to get rid of their stock on a discount, just wait a bit
And I can't wait for the bend test on the larger iPad pro
yuuupppp
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 me too!
Not sure if this has already been said…. Wasn’t the main reason they did not move the front facing camera on the last model IPad Pro because of the magnets used to attach the Apple Pencil two, and now with the new iPad Pro, they have in fact redesigned the magnet connection/ charging for the Apple Pencil Pro so the front facing camera could be moved to the landscape location? This would be a reason that the Apple Pencil two is not compatible with the new iPad Pro. The magnets and charger for the Apple Pencil Pro must not line up or work properly with the Apple Pencil two.
Just a thought.
8:50 yeah. I love the iPad Pro as it was and mostly I was asking for oled… and now it is here.
Thank god they’ve brought out something more powerful as my M1 just wasn’t powerful enough to do what everyone uses their iPads for…. Watching TH-cam
Remember this comment when these start bending by the thousands because they sacrificed structural rigidity for thinness.
first thing i thought. “but will it bend?”
Skeptical too. Current iPad Pros are thin enough, no one was asking for this. Perhaps too thin if they made their logo a heatsink.
Remember this comment while are you are waiting the bending issues.. even the 2022 iPad Pro thickness was under 6mm.. so technically just a marketing bullshit, it's not even 1mm thinner..
@@britneyfreek JerryRigEverything will answer that question for us
I doubt it because of Apple past experience. Maybe a dozen of iPads bent and half will be TH-camrs doing it on purpose.
Absolutely love the dynamics of this video. Keep it up!
I think that Apple locking the new Apple Pencil Pro with the new iPad has to do something with the way it’s charged. As the new front Camera orientation on the iPad I feel like Apple may have moved the Charging coils of the new Pencil and the iPad which may have been a factor of the new Pencil not being compatible with the older generation and the new iPad not being compatible with the Apple Pencil 2.
in apple's defense, i don't think theres any way they _could_ have made the 2nd gen pencil compatible with the new pros and airs due to the new camera orientation. the camera being there means they probably had to completely redesign the connectors to get around it
same applies to the new pencil not being compatible with the old ipads, the new connectors on the pencil to match the new ipads probably just isn't compatible with the old designs
Then Apple needs to include the pencil with the purchase. There’s zero excuses for them here. This new line up is disgusting from the consumers POV.
@@Thegooob95 they shouldve been including the pencil with the ipad from the beginning honestly, its scummy of them not to when its a super important part of the experience using the ipad. my only issue is with saying they're greedy for making the 2nd gen pencil incompatible, when realistically they couldnt have made them compatible
They could move the charge connection to the opposite side
I have to agree with you here. An annual R&D budget in the billions and some of the best engineers in the world... sometimes, with these impossible questions like where to place the Apple Pencil... even they get stumped. Next thing we'll be asking them to create perpetual energy.
The reason for the 2 different apple pencils is that the new front camera arrangement makes the prior wireless charger on the 2. gen Apple Pencil not match the wireless charger in the new iPad chassis. This is the reason why the Apple Pencil Pro isn’t compatible with older iPads and vise versa.
Then how is it that the new iPad Air supports both 2nd gen and Apple Pencil pro?
@@ethanjrdzit doesnt. Only USB C and the pro pencils
