Despite them being different from the giant TMNT toys I had over 30 years ago, I like these figures a lot. My only gripes are that they all have the same face as Raph, and I would've loved if they gave Leo two swords, and Mikey with two nunchakus, rather than giving them just one of their weapons like the original. For the price point, they're not bad figures at all.
Thank you for this review. I appreciate you taking a hit in the wallet to show the major flaws in this new "not so giant" Leo. Thanks again for a great start to my weekend with 3 awesome back to back to back reviews!!!
I think these are charming especially if you don’t have any biggies. $25 is a decent price for giants. I’ve invested probably like $400 completing the giants. The 4 brothers complete, bebop, rocky & dunkn’ Donnie with a custom blue ball (like European blue variant) 🤷🏻 some one was selling on eBay for $20. & giants accessories can run up to $75 for belts, $50 - $100 for sword, $ 50 for sai’s, $50 a chuck. & $250 -$300 for bebop & rock’s gun & rifle. I just bought them a tiny ar-15 replica from goat for $39 & made bebop’s gun. I also started 10 years back. These dudes blew up. $100 on average for a complete turtle & bebop & rock are $150. - $200 (minus weapons) & dunkn’ Donnie $250 & up (minus the ball)
Holy cow, I didn’t think they got that high in value. I probably should have thought about it more and added that they were good if you weren’t trying to get a replica of the original figures. I think I was mostly put off by the reused face the most. I did just learn today that Michelangelo is a Walmart exclusive and that’s super lame.
Good review. I never had the originals, so I think I was spared some disappointment with these new ones. I really like the new ones -- Raph anyway -- but seeing the differences, I can see where they're lacking.
That was fast! And well, what can I say. The not-segmented teeth are a plus to me. Plus, Leo doesn't look scared anymore! As recreations of the originals, they fail completely. As their own thing, they seem goofy and fun and I'll get a Donatello if I find these in the wild.
I completely understand your reasoning for wanting to pick him up and you’re right they are wacky haha. I think I just kind of thought Playmates had pulled a fast one on some people who seemed to think they were the same thing.
It seems as tho they are like the prototypes as they show all on the back of the original back all had Raph's head mold and Kevin eastman had those prototypes from the toys that made us in the background. It seems those could be the prototype molds? I thought they were pretty damn good bootlegs at first just reissuing the prototype molds but no its official :] so this makes me think, did they actually reissue the prototype molds and because of Kevin Eastman's molds? Or just for time constraints to get a quick buck as for people who didn't have them?
I also saw that they said 89 and not 1990 maybe because these protos could have been made in 89, a year before or its just a kid with recolor raphs on the back of the box and I'm just being dumb
@@darkfan4337 did they come out in 89 or 90? I remember getting them in December of 1989 for Christmas, because I got two at home, one from my one grandmother and I was hoping to get Donatello at my other grandmothers, but I didn’t get him. I also remember playing with them at my house until I moved in the middle of 90.
I'll be honest, when I found my Turtle haul a few weeks ago they had a few giant sized Turtles and I paided them zero attention. They could of had a Mikey and I wouldn't have realized it. Point is that I'd say most of us are more interested in the reissues on original card back. I think their efforts would be better focused on those.
I like the original card back standard reissues too just as long as they include all of the old accessories. I heard Mutagen Man was a mess, but I think the 88 figures and the storage shell figures look great. Especially when you hang them up together on your wall!
@@razrentals8897 Yeah I'd say Mutegen Man has faired the worst when it comes to acessories and Bebop is probably the worst when it comes to paint, other than that I think the line is pretty nice.
Saw these at my local Walmart today. They had Leo, Don, Raph but no Mikey. Here in Canada they are priced at $40 Canadian each which is kinda high. Really cool to see these on shelves for the current generation of kids get to experience playmates TMNT figures but for collectors wanting to relive those same figures this is not going to cut it. I ordered the Pizza Tossin’ figures from Walmart Canada as I never had those, but even that was disappointing to see that they seem to have passed over Donnie and only did 3 of the 4 turtles. I have the Storage shell turtles but most are in bad shape, no accessories, a couple are missing the shell itself so I may track down a set of those too.
They only remade 3 of the pizza tossin figures? That’s lame. I had the original Michelangelo for years, but I can’t find him anywhere. I think my kids lost him.
I think they look nice enough and very clean. I think a precision paint marker would probably fix those teeth. Owning one for display would be fine I think.
Straight-up lying referring to these as "1989 originals" says much about Playmates and their general approach to all their reissues. That aside, if I come across these on clearance, I'll pick one up to place in some negative space somewhere in my collection. Thanks for taking a look at these.
Great review, I agree. In other words.. don’t be a pilex dan a.k.a. a shill, Lol! (We like the truth on toy reviews). Which is why I ended up just buying the originals on ebay.
@Raz Rentals, I hope you don't mind but I shared a screengrab of the two Leo's side by side from this video on the TMNT Reddit so others can see the size comparison. I gave you credit and provided a link to this video, so I hope you get some extra views out of it! If it's not cool, I'll delete the post though. Love your channel!
@@razrentals8897 Cool, thanks! Keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to the 1990 and SOTO Neca Turtles comparison video! The new Archie Slash review was amazing!
never seen those Giant sizes in EU but I'm aware they've been produced... great comparison and I find it strange and super lame Playmates doesn't innovate instead are milking same cow over and over and in this case can't even replicate it properly same like with movie star turtles it was a complete disaster... I would prefer old--beaten battle damaged turtles and give them second life in my collection than to buy new non-accurate versions which is wasting shit tons of plastic for nothing...
Never had these as a kid, and was pretty excited when I heard they were re-releasing but after seeing them for myself and watching your video, it’s a definite pass for me. Going to focus on finding the pizza tossin and storage shell re-releases instead.
I just bought the new Playmates TMNT Last Ronin figure and I love it. It would be great to see them do more stuff like that. Now I know these new Giant Turtles are new molds, it makes it more disappointing they didn't add articulation to them, especially with how good the giant 2012 TMNT figures were with knee and elbow bends, full shoulder rotation and two swords for Leo!

I disagree the new ones are so fun! The price point is super nice. The cheesy smile is funny. I’m excited for these new release ones.
Thanks for these videos man they are an amazing escape, always inspires me to pick up my turtle figures and reposition or sort them while I’m watching
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoy them!
I saw Leo and Mikey at a Wal-Mart today. My only major complaint is that Mikey's nunchuck is just one solid piece.

Thanks for coming back and always commenting! I’m glad you liked the reviews. I can’t believe I got so many done haha.
Of course; you've got the best channel out there!
Turtles, turtles everywhere great one as always.

Picked up the big 3 today. These toys are amazing!!!!
I actually like the new ones. Will be picking up Raph.
I think they can be good for what they are, just not be sold as reissues. They’re kind of like a new thing.
I like your reviews... you give it more details and your opinions.
Thank you!

The original giant Raph never had his initials on his head FYI.

Yeah, they went cheap on them, but they're still neat. I bought a Raph just for the simple joy of it.
I think they look nice enough and very clean. I think a precision paint marker would probably fix those teeth. Owning one for display would be fine I think.
Can we get a F in the chat for Mikey?
I had to look up what that meant haha. I’m an old man!

Fax my raph doesn’t have his first letter on the back of his head is that just you?
Sry I meant Raz not fax
Also keep up the good work
Please tell me you’re doing shredder and bebop and rocksteady

I agree with you. I’d rather the original stuff too and for them to make cool new things or new characters that could fit in with the old toy line.
Gta use a marker n create the teeth lines urself lol

I wouldn’t mind getting the pizza tossin turtles myself, but I haven’t found them yet.
Viacom/Nickelodeon need to take the license any from Playmates for doing such a lazy job on the TMNT brand.
It’s too bad the new ones are all soulless clones of each other.
Yeah I feel the same way. I think I’m just gonna buy a beaten up Mikey and Donatello so they can match my worn childhood Raph and Leo.
Looks like playmates reissued bootlegs
I just don’t like that playmates is cutting corners, using the same head sculpt, the same pizzas for the storage shells, just to save a few cents?
Playmates will never evolve and will keep rereleasing the same things long as people are buying. Everyone been eating the up.
