That, my friend, for a life-long Southern Electric boy, is an amazing chunk of footage! Forget the sound-sync (although if it can be corrected that would be great). Forget the video quality - people don't remember that's what "home" videoing was like even so few years ago. The journey itself is incredible and I think pretty much unrepeatable now without about a thousand changes of train. It also is the first time I've seen much of the route in this direction. And the sights on the way. Coming up the wall of death into Sutton; the Wimbledon bay still extant and operating at West Croydon. The slow line curve up into Selhurst; the drop into my original home station at Thornton Heath - past my some time home in Bensham Manor Road, where I could watch this stretch of line all day long from the bottom of our garden. A video doesn't have to be 4K to be totally watchable. For me this was the highpoint of April Fool's day 2023

Thanks for the reply, yes sorry about the sound out of sync, tried but failed to put it right, left it as it better than silence. Glad someone else remembers it as the wall of death !

Just brought an 78 year old to tears, at the age of five we moved into a new replacement house two streets from Tooting junction station. Their was a coal yard and a number of sidings. At the end of my road was a small allotment and behind that was the start of the head shunt for the yard. There were a lot of banana vans in the yard either being built or repaired. The line ran from Tooting junction to Wimbledon and was a freight line. I also had a number of trips on the two cartridge train that ran from Wimbledon to West Croydon so many memories.

The 455 came up from Caterham via Norwood Junction reversed at London Bridge and worked a Sutton loop via Wimbledon service. As I lived by Penge West and worked by Haydons Road this was ideal.

this is such a brilliant video. i actually drive this route from
sutton to victoria via Selhurst and it super fantastic to see
the route in such familiar angle and its great..and mad see how the scenery used to look and comparing to now, is just so awesome!!
So strange is when we hear the despatch via the guard and not via the illumination CD/RA we now see via the station staff!! how’s things have changed. on a different note, i kind of watch the public live as such and think at that time, on that day around the world at that moment we had so many fantastic movie music and sports stars still around doing their thing on that day, who have since passed away in the preceding years and it’s just mad to see that whilst being here now watching 🧐🧐🧐🧐

Great video, as are all the videos in this series. Is there any chance of syncing up the sound? It's disconcerting to hear the 2 bells to start the train when it is still coming to a stand at a station!

Several stations appear to be getting their platform lighting upgraded at the time this was filmed.
