I gave this crazy way to fish a go. Years ago I used to slide my baits a lot, but since I started to use spinning reels and braided line, I neglected this technique. I decided to put some mono on top of my braid and then to slide my live bait out to target a big Mulloway or as they are called in South Africa kob or kabeljou! The very first slide bait that I sent out I hooked into a Giant mulloway! slide baiting definitely works great to target these big fish!

I remember at school all the guys stood at the end of the field to see how far they could throw a cricket ball. Quite obviously you were the winner at your school, especially when you threw the cricket ball bait for the Spotted Gully Shark . Ps great Kob, nice to see you so stoked.

Started sliding in Australia 15years ago people thought I was crazy now its a pretty popular technique and yes first saw this type of fishing in RSA

What a monster!! Interesting how you were talking about fishing on or around the sand bank for cob. Here in Australia people are usually told to fish in the deep holes and gutters for kob

I personally attach the sinker to the sliding wit swivel with an elastic band . Yes i know environment etc Syop driving your car then, but with big fish i like the idea that with a circle and violent head shakes , enough pressure and its just my ability to keep pressure directly to the hook, the elastic band breaks off ... I practice C&R FTR ... Great advice ..Australian fish are smaller , but better looking :) Much respect

awesome video. wat an awesome catch off the beach! gotta admit that wen it comes to using sliderbaits i prefer using mono main line so much easier to shake and slide the rig where as braid i really struggled but you made it look so easy!

Always special catching kob especially at that size. I was just wondering if the length of the line from the slide to the hook matters?
Thanks man, yeah I love those things! Yes it does matter the trace should be about 1m long if its too long you battle to get it down and if it short it tangles with the mainline I found that about 1m works perfectly

Might be a plan to get a spare spool for our grinder setups and spool it with braid backing and say 150m of mono. That way you can just keep it in your bag and if the conditions need you to slide a big bait, it's as easy as swapping spools. Definitely easier than carry a second heavy sliding setup if you're not sure you're going to use it. Cheaper than buying a second grinder too lol.

sliding with braid ?? please do a short video on slidig with braid.
I would say the mono top shot is because sliding on braid wouldn't be good for the braid and probably wouldn't slide as well. I'm not an expert on sliding but that would be my guess as to the effect on braided line.

It's important not to strike on the first run...you will know it's at the stopper ring when it runs smooth and consistently...

Hi!!! I'm from Argentina and here this kind of fishing technique is absolutely unknown. It's really amazing!! I've got some doubts: When you pump the road to make the bait slide until it gets to the stop near the wired fishing lead,doesn't it make the lead come out from the seabed where it's attached by the wires? And second how do you know when the bait gets the stop? Kind regards from Argentina
Slide fishing is a popular technique used in south Africa it is used for getting bigger baits out further it is done with a heavy wire sinker set very hard you dont shake to hard then the sinker gets pulled how you know it's at the sinker no one really does except for the way zander explains it

Very nice wow big size kob 👍 ,so after you casting the bait sliding live or normal dead fresh bait anyway the question is when you put the fishing rod in the rid stand and waiting for kob so how much the drag should be loose? And if the drag tight more so the kob will feel the tension on the line when he start eat the bait so kob will leave and stop eating the bait ? I don't have much experience with kob fishing on surf fishing so I need some advice thank you 🙂👍
