The question shouldn't be can't afford to can't afford to make an existing home more fire resistant; the question should be can one afford *NOT* to make a home more firesistant? I have had rural residence totaled by a tornado. While mu insurance compay paid for the loss quickly. I can tell you, there are lost more costs incurred before being able to move back on your property. I understand everyone's situation isn't the same, but in my experiance many don't consider everything there is to consider.
