Still listening to this magical album in 2021. Alison is one of the most underrated artist of our time. Those notes she hit, I watched in awe and have been a super fan ever since. My 16 and 18 year old love her music too. Class.
I am literally mesmerized by the magic, sensual, feral mastery of this singer/performer. How is Goldfrapp not acknowledged universally as an astonishing music force?
Apparently there was a 'failure to launch' issue surrounding Black Cherry, which was going to be her breakout... Felt Mountain established her an indie darling, critically, and BC was seen as far too much of a shift into electronic pop territory and was panned because of it. Personally BC is it for me, every song on that album is a chart worthy single... incredibly catchy/memorable and whole album flows well. And of course she shifted around album to album stylistically, so it kind of kept her from having a distinct identity the mainstream could relate to. That said, I think in retrospect she absolutely is lauded as being a force, especially because she is so versatile. And let's not forget Gregory who composed/produced these amazing musical landscapes.
@@brandall101 there was no 'failure to launch' . the songs were contracted out for commercial use the minute the album was published, and they made a ton of $ off them.
@@rickdeckard1075 I didn’t mean that particular album, I meant from a career perspective. It alienated too many fans and critics. One of the things they’re lauded for retrospectively is how many chances they took musically, but I feel that sudden shift out of the gate kept them from being as big (both culturally and commercially) as others in their circle such as Portishead and Massive Attack.
Ya know.... this has always been one of my favorites of hers. But tonight, in the last week of 2023, I finally saw her sing it LIVE for the first time. Her soprano bits always gave me goosebumps, and even tears at times... so it was quite moving to see her, up close, singing those bits on video. It had never occurred to me before to seek it out for view, but I'm glad I finally saw it here. Love it!
Been to the beach driving today listened to this one and lovely head and clay in loop ,had me a sun set red as fire in a cold ish weather and yeah she took me elsewhere I felt everything was moving in slow motion
I firmly believe from 3:55 this part til the end = easily some of the best music ever created those harmonies, instrumentation and Alison's fucking stellar vocal? music doesn't get better than this!!!
@@mmccormick1065 It was! They played the album in the tracks order. Starting with Lovely Head. With Alison singing from two microphones, one for vocals and one for sound effects.
If only they'd followed *this* direction instead of the glam/pop... so brilliantly unearthly, still, after all this time! You can really Dream Awake to it....
Just gorgeous in every way. It’s interesting that when someone sees her for the first time, they say she’s like Kylie Minogue or Madonna, not realising that Alison Goldfrapp was whey ahead of the game and an inspiration to both of them and many other artists too!
Shes so good live...Goldfrapp are so Good...!! The other video I sent to Teeze was better performance & she looked amazing ...but this came up first...either are classics
I wouldn't say brand dilution. Alison and Will (et al) just go in with an idea and record tracks based around it. Their albums are all shots in different directions, but at the core is amazing and creative talent. I lost them after Supernature, I couldn't get into much off of Seventh Tree and Head On. Industry and tastes change. We live in the world of the autotune. Felt Mountain came out 13 years ago. Artists are influenced by the world around them, and 13 years ago it was a lot different.
It takes you to a dreamlike experience but it is real. There's more than what our brains allow us to see or what we are capable of perceiving and knowing this whole thing is just exciting.
First saw them on Jools, assume she sang Pilots as she was wearing air hostess outfit. Can't find it on here. Hello, I thought. Loved the album so much, saw them several times but T in the Park was incredible doing the first 2 albums.
I saw Goldfrapp in Oldham st ,Manchester 13 years back with about 6 other people and a dog .I went to see Tarwater and ended up seeing two of the best groups for about a fiver in a seedy old bar .Unforgetable night ,jaw dropingly good ,both groups but only Goldfrapp made it unfortunately. Also a return to form with new album .
Hey LnZ, they are references to the little instrument she uses on stage , which she refers to as her stick. She has refers to it on various occasions at various concerts. The other is her song (Train)
Goldfrapp....I need new ears not just her dog.....I want to hear this performance with brand new Bass Bins.....she's beautiful & it's a beautiful song & beautiful live performance x
This is early stuff, the cocoon stage, sounds got louder, the skirts got shorter, we all got older, madame butterfly evolved, started playing with her stick! And Can't stop, oh, off the train,Train yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh,,,
Listen to the words people. Becoming ever more relevant as we are allowing ourselves to quietly slip into overbearing dystopian authoratarianism. This is not what I signed up for.
One of the most underrated singers ever, puts the rest of today’s artists to shame.
Absolutely!
Lies..
All lies
Yes...she does! She's such a beautifully talented Siren!!!
Yes
"underrated " bad, lazy, bot. reported as spam.
I never realised it was Alison hitting those notes, Christ she's good
If I'm not mistaken, Allison is classically trained as an opera singer. I think she is a soprano.
Still listening to this magical album in 2021.

@@brandall101 i can what tell you what alienated fans and critics: alison's shitty personality.

Alison Goldfrapp I have loved you since 2000.
hace años la escuché y quedé impactado, esa voz es impresionante...
If only they'd followed *this* direction instead of the glam/pop... so brilliantly unearthly, still, after all this time! You can really Dream Awake to it....
Alison, simplemente hermosa! Tanto talento en una sola mujer!
Just gorgeous in every way. It’s interesting that when someone sees her for the first time, they say she’s like Kylie Minogue or Madonna, not realising that Alison Goldfrapp was whey ahead of the game and an inspiration to both of them and many other artists too!
Oh man... that was great!
Real live too, none of that lip-synching for Alison.
Shes so good live...Goldfrapp are so Good...!! The other video I sent to Teeze was better performance & she looked amazing ...but this came up first...either are classics
I never tire of this song absolutely stunning.

This & Conan O'Brian. "Utopia". The woman who fell to earth!
The Conan O'Brian version of "Utopia" is transcendent, beautiful and amazing.
I love her, live she it absolutely mind blowing ❤️😍
I love it...!!
Flawless
This should have been a beautiful openingsong for James Bond.
it was originality that made them stand out...i agree, after black cherry etc it felt too mainstream...very talented folks tho, you're right...
It takes you to a dreamlike experience but it is real. There's more than what our brains allow us to see or what we are capable of perceiving and knowing this whole thing is just exciting.
Yup.. what you said.
My dog needs new ears
Make his eyes see forever
Make him live like me
Again and again
wow! that voice :o
awesome :)
Goldfrapp somehow manage to put you into a whole new world while listening to them..
This song is so amazing, especially in 2023
Impressive! I hadn't seen this one. Thank you.
She was Royal school of music trained no wonder 👍👍👍😊😊
Yes, the new record is very good.
Kinda sounds like a Bond film song. Maybe if it had more horns or something, to sound "Bondish" lol
Her voice is so luxurious....😍
Many say this but Bond would ruin it
Beautiful Siren
Thanks!

Can hear Bowie duetting this one out with Alison that would have been amazingly
I give a thumb up for the first part. second, even with dictionnary translation I don't understand a word.
Goldfrapp....I need new ears not just her dog.....I want to hear this performance with brand new Bass Bins.....she's beautiful & it's a beautiful song & beautiful live performance x
True and total talent, why the breakbeat on the drums? sound like a pub band, thankfully Alison is euphoric 🙏
Illustrious.
it would have been nice if the main motive had same notes as in the studio version, it's kind of ruining it whole
it was still about the audio at this point...
😱
Jools Holland is anti-totp no lip synching allowed
