Beating the final Vergil fight on DMD. Before Dark Souls, before all that stuff we have now, that was the trial by fire. On DMD he almost instant-kills you if you mess up even the slightest. It's insanely difficult, but it feels so good to do.
I feel the third game got right what Dante was supposed to be all about. The back talk, style, and interesting Halloweeny bosses. The first game tried to focus more darkness while the second game was just waaaay too serious. I think Bayonetta found her style much sooner than Dante did.
Narratively and chronologically it makes sense why Dante becomes somewhat more serious in 1, and 2. In 3, Vergil stays in the Underworld which makes Dante sad that he realizes that the only family member he had just wanted power and chose to stay there. Dante in DMC1 not only managed to win against Mundus but accidentally thought he killed his brother when he couldn’t see that Nelo Angelo was Vergil. No matter what Dante did it won’t bring back his mother or brother despite avenging the both of them by defeating Mundus. In the anime and DMC 2, Dante’s life has somewhat become hallow. He’s not only one of the strongest beings that can’t be killed that easily and when he does fight someone it’s the only way to make him somewhat forget about his loneliness and what he lost. Don’t get me wrong, he has Lady, Patty, Morrison, and Trish but it’s obvious that Dante pushes them away in fear of losing them or not wanting them to see them get hurt. He got better after and during DMC 4 as he found out that Nero must have some connection to the Sparda bloodline. With him comes the conclusion that Nero must be Vergil’s son because of Nero’s natural affinity to Yamato. Because of this, Dante becomes happier knowing that he has a nephew and something to remember his brother by, even though he doesn’t tell Nero this until near the end of DMC 5 after V merges with Urizen to become Vergil.
Makes a whole lotta sense if you look at it chronologically(3,1, anime/manga, 2, 4, Book, 5,) Funny enough their some sect of the fandom that tries to shoehorn in DmC Reboot as the prologue of DMC3. Which I will extend an olive branch… the way that ended and the Vergil dlc attached made me put two and two together in some fashion…

This game is gonna be 15 years old next year in March, I also realized that this game came out in North America at March 1 2005 for the PS2, with the Gamecube version of Mortal Kombat Deception release where that started the same day in March.

PS1 fighting games takes less than 8 seconds to to load. Now they take around 15 ~ 20 seconds. Damn shame!

Of course the PS4 games, that have much more assets and resources used, take 15 or more seconds to load. In-game, Most games have a opening and ending cutscene, one that can change depending on the characters. Most levels are interactive and can be altar, the game has to load all of that
You should check out Fight 'N Rage for PC. It's a recent beat 'em up with an old-school look, the music is kick-ass and the game is fairly challenging.

Roger completely agree. The 6th gen was the best gaming gen there ever was and sadly probably ever will be. (2nd best is the 16-bit era imo). Anyway with the cost of development ever rising, creativity and innovation that was abundantly present during the 6th generation is basically gone in AAA space, at least there's the indie dev scene but that's about it.

The framerate is not very good here. Did you play this in the original PC release or through PS2 emulation? If so, you should have tried the HD Collection. The framerate is flawless there and the game itself is much better optimized.
On what are you playing this? Even on 720p60, the framerate goes to shit sometimes. Also, props for being one of the only ones who don't take forever to kill the Gigapede :p
