I did this hoping to stop my G3 overheating when using GPS. Just did the mod, copper foil and old arctic silver 3 paste. Since I didn't measure temps at the start and only had a quick glance yesterday when it was about 67 idle. I can't say how much better it is but the back isn't THAT hot today and temps after are 56 - 62 general use which is promising.
Thanks for the video, I was a bit worried about taking it apart because of all the strip connectors, I hadn't seen the flat plugs before till I saw your video.
No need to remove the camera or front switches. Very clean and tidy design. It's a shame they didn't make sure the heatsink in the casing wasn't making solid contact :)
So i just tried that, adding paste, took about 20 minutes and fixed the problem im now at 45-55 celcius :D I'm so glad it works, i was having wifi dropouts, constant reboot loop... now everything seems fine and faster, it feel like it was when i got it and it was super quick brand new like 4-5 years ago

@@imagenius5606 yes also the sim card tray pins were a bit bent but it works fine and never heats since i did that fix
dude this method works really well i use ic diamond thermal paste and a thermal pad my highest temp is 55-60 before was 78-80 then the screen would black out now i use my phone more often without the black screen or screen flickering. even though LG failed to to put decent cooling on the phone there's always a work around. do this guys it works really well.

Lol, I pulled mine out the drawer for the 1st in 4 years and this actually worked...I might have used a little overkill a thermal pad...Its a nice media player

What do you mean by "something cold"? like tinfoil or aluminium foil?

i used a euro cent and less paste, it worked ok. 3 days later and now the wifi has stopped. this phone is a joke iphone are just as bad. i have got and am using the lg g6 so i really hope they tried a little harder with this phone i understand it has liquid cooling

I didn't even try, traded it in for what I could get and bought a used phone 👀 it's crazy to think that I saw a vid on the screen fading and 3 days later, my phone screen faded out completely lol

My phone is not showing any kind of display when i turn it on Led notification light turns on but screen didn't shows the display.

Weird i never had this problem ot only got permanet black spots when it cracked (the lg g3)
should've 're-flowed' it first with a heat gun, for sure the old solder already have some cracks.

I NEED HELP, PLEASE!!! Lmao, so one of my G3's started having issues, first it was the screen freeze and flicker then fade, so I found this video and finally had it fixed so to speak. A month or two later with no issues, I started having the wifi issue where it wouldn't connect at all, just kept searching. So I followed another video that had me dive deeper into the phone and it was helping but occasionally acted up so I'd redo it and it was good for a while, my problem now is that the other day I finally decided to use a little paste to place the thermal paper, go figure it ends up being the one time I accidentally went to put the shield cover on backwards and without sealing it, I realized and turned it around right, but not before it somehow held the thermal paper in place so it ended up pressing it onto another chip and I'm pretty sure that caused an entirely new unheard of issue because I woke up today and I cannot get the screen to turn on at all, tried the two fix it tricks I know and I'm having no luck at all...I'm afraid I might have caused some serious damage somehow but I'm not very edumacated with circuit boards chips motherboards and at all that so if anybody knows any tips tricks or suggestions I'd really appreciate it, I'm most concerned with my files and photos, I've used both my G3's primarily for meaningful pictures and I haven't converted them to another device in a while. Hopefully a hero can save the day for me, big thanks to anybody who might have some suggestions.
@@vaiebhavpatil2340 no I wasn't able to and ironically, just yesterday my gf turned on my other g3 that hadn't had any problems, and the entire system crashed...I forget what it was called but it was weird name like "gordie crash" or something and said to hit the volume up/down to reboot or download through usb... but my original phone I haven't had any luck, sucks I kinda gave up but is there any tips? I'd appreciate it
@@anthonywilliams7814 I tried opening up the phone and heating the ic chip with a hairdryer and it kind of worked and my phone was working normally for a day and I took backup of it but since then it's not working I'm thinking of heating the chip for even more time and then apply thermal paste and aluminum foil and see if my phone works.
Right now I have to use my dad's spare phone 😅

@@vaiebhavpatil2340 thanks for taking the time, I've been trying to get it back alive but since I tried the volume up/down to reboot it or dload it I haven't been able to get it past the LG startup mode...it stays frozen on the logo till Iremove the battery, totally sucks I can't get the pictures out of either LG G3 I have now but I'll definitely that out thanks for the trick tip and hope you figure out your problem, I'll let you know if I have any changes or luck with either phone.

The problem IS NOT a graphic chip (analogix), the problem is NOT CPU, as many have speculated in the past and the people who putt thermal paste over a CPU need serious education on the topic. Thermal paste is in no way a magical substance that lowers temperature when applied - it's purpose is to fill the gaps between a heating body (CPU) and heat dispenser (cooling unit, cooler, aluminum grill, etc), so thermal paste is a gap filler, not a cooling magical stuff. With that out of the picture, the problem of the screen flicker is a completely separate integrated circuit which (by the words of my illiterate Indian fellow) goes haywire due to some magnetic stuff:
PERMANENT SOLUTION (homemade doable):
Now first, go back to motherboard image, and on the front side of the board find Gyro Sensor chip - just above that chip, there is a grid of 5x5 pin-like circuits.

Now that you have located them, that is your LCD screen flicker solution: I didnt quite understand what is really going on there, but you need to apply heat (just like in the BSOD solution, same time same temperature), and use metallic object to "clean" the pins. He explained to me that the screen flicker is due to some magnetic residue that builds up in that circuits, and a clean metal will remove it. (how that is even possible I dont know but the solution works) Long story short - I used a really fine metallic brush (Dremel set) and once I heated it up, just strolled with brush over those pin-heads. According to the indian guy, the metallic object needed for cleaning should be non-magnetic. If you dont remove the screen flicker at first, use a really fine object to give all the pins a push (once heated), I used broken needle (regular needle is too sharp) or smallest Phillips screwdriver in my set. IMPORTANT: when doing this, there is a ton of chips nearby so it's smart to protect rest of the board with Alu-foil
total of my 5 screen flicker units NEVER went back to screen flicker issue. Special note: 2 of my units after completely removed screen flicker issue, immediately went to "no sim card" issue and I dont know how that is connected, but there is also a method for sim-card issue repair further down the topic
