    Too bad these phones are so fragile. Dropped mine 3 days ago and this screen flicker started to happen. Thanks for both of these videos. Used the paper trick on the 2 contact points and so far, so good. Thank you for sharing these tips!

    Thanks for the paper trick, it fixed my phone and work for about 4 months. But it fails again today. Now I follow this trick, and my G3 works again. Like magic. You are the man!!!

    Thank you!!! Ive had this phone for over 2 years and it literally just happened to me yesterday. Thank you for the help!! I did it once and it's working perfectly now. Keep up the good work :)

      Wow! I'll try this one. How's your phone so far? I think it's possible that there's a problem with the chip itself which causes the overheating.

    • @BrooklynFlorenee
      @BrooklynFlorenee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely must be the chip. i tried this and it was working for about a day and then it's been back to acting up. Mine also caught fire about a year ago, idk if anyone else had that problem. It burns my face constantly. I tried talking to T-Mobile and LG they both gave me shit answers about just buying a new phone. So yeah I'm caught in a cycle haha

      Dz Groupe no this will not resolve your issue permanently. I talked to one of the customer service agent of LG that I should get a new mobo for my phone which cost higher price than the price of a new lg g3. Better look for a new phone bro

    So guys, the thing is I am also using G3 since 18 months, and the same problem first started in april end. Infact when i google the problem regarding screen flickering most of the users are getting it after using G3 for 12+ months.
    I don't want to take risk to dismantle and make my hands dirty after seeing the above video. But i appreciate users are scratching their heads and solving it by any cost, I know we all had spent near about 40k bucks for this so called smartphone. Obviously I am not likely to buy another LG phone.

  • @sperilarobert-alexandru2275
    @sperilarobert-alexandru2275 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    So, let me get this straight,
    The problem with the G3's screen fading is a hardware issue related to the CPU/GPU which are on the same DIE. The fact that someone puts a paper on the camera connector and it works is due to the fact that the tension applied to the motherboard flexes it and it makes the BGA balls re-connect. The only way to fix this is to heat the mobo up gradually ( I've used a professional Bosch Hot Air gun and some special paste ) and before reassebly, to put a metal plate with some thermal paste between the CPU and the metal case. This way the CPU won't overheat that bad, and it will be pressed into the motherboard, minimising the risk of this to reappear.
    I've done this yesterday, and untill now it's working like charm.
    I've used some Arctic Silver 5 ( with no electrical conductance ) and a piece of metal cut to the size of the CPU.
    For any other questions contact me anytime.

    • @licajourney5226
      @licajourney5226 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I put a piece of paper on the camera connector, is it safe? I'm worried that it will cause damage on my phone. I don't have any of the materials you have used to put together the CPU and metal case. Thanks!

    • @Al3xxxinho
      @Al3xxxinho 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lica Liwag it won't damage the phone, just that the issue will reappear in time

    • @sperilarobert-alexandru2275
      @sperilarobert-alexandru2275 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You disassemble the phone, grab a hot air gun and heat it up gradually. If you do not have experience doing this I recomment you find someone who does, or you will screw it up pretty bad :)

      Yeah.. Still working.. I had it repaired after 2weeks of having a piece of paper stuck in the camera connector..

  • @SeanAsheMeston
    @SeanAsheMeston 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I've still got the paper in the phone, and finding performance is improving day by day, although flickering and fading does still occur. I've been able to play Angry Birds Star Wars II for about 90 mins without any flickering or fading, and looking at the comments on here, i shan't be doing this new fix. If LG knew how to make a phone properly, there'd be no need for these videos and frustrated users.

    • @seanbunjira4545

      i also put the paper but after 3 days it started flickering again a bit, but im happy i finally sold the phone to someone who was not aware.. Moved on to experia z3

      hehe, i contemplated doing that with a company who recycles phones. Currently i am using an iPhone 5C which is unbearable. Considering a Moto G4 Plus at this moment.

    The big question is WHY do these fixes work? If you try a "fix" without knowing WHY it solves the problem, your "fix" is probably only temporary (as I suspect this one will be too.)
    I *believe* the "wad of paper" solution only worked because placing some extra bulk on that particular spot behind the motherboard (and the APU)... when you snap the case-backing back on... you're applying more pressure to that spot so that the Processor makes better contact with the heatsink covering it.
    As for re-connecting the ribbon cables, that "fix" is solving a different problem. The contacts for each cable are very tiny and can shift over time as the phone heats & cools resulting in a poor connection. Reseating the cables will fix that until eventually they'll shift and need reseating again.
    What both these problems have in common is "heat". Using both "fixes" (the paper wad & reseating cables) will probably "fix" the issue longer that doing just one or the other alone. In the end, it's a design flaw and I think nothing short of a better heat sink will "permanently" fix the issue.

  • @briandrew2200
    @briandrew2200 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried this and it did not work. I had tried the "pressure on the camera cable" trick which helped some but did not eliminate the problem. This try did not work at all and it was fading immediately and more frequently than when I had a small piece of plastic on the camera cable. Thanks for trying. I think the logic board is broken and it is not a cable connection problem for me. I wonder how many people have this problem? Sux to have spent $500 16 months ago and now I have to buy a new phone. Obviously I am not likely to buy another LG phone.

    if any one of you have dropped your phones..even with a case on... and there's fading and flickering... check for hairline cracks on the screen. i was also looking into this issue for my wife and cousin.. who both have lg g3's and they both experienced this after updating to Marshmallow. i think it happening after the update is just a coincidence but after looking into it they both have hairline cracks on their screens. my wife even has cracks on the top and bottom bezel which they both missed to see. it's very difficult to see to the naked eye but fading and flickering can most often be symptoms of a damaged digitizer/cracked screen. just my 2 cents. good luck!

    Ehy guys, I wanna share with you what seems the PERMANENT solution: try to pull off totally the front camera (the main one) and put it outside the phone.
    Ok, you can think ... "wtf my phone without a camera?" I can say "better a phone with only a rear camera (the selfie camera) then an unusable phone...or not?"
    I really tried ALL the conventional methods (paper trick, coin trick, thermal paste, baking etc...)
    To use the rear camera I suggest to download an app called MXCamera and set the rear camera like the main one because the standard camera app will not start otherwise.
    If you can live without the front camera, try this trick and share the outcome with a comment to this.
    LET US KNOW IF IT WORKS EVEN TO YOU!!

    • @SuperBlokie

      Camera removing finally helped. Phone now works like a brilliant! Thank you bro!

    • @bi30
      @bi30 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect the only reason this works is because the front camera is so "thick" it was lifting the circuit board up away from the APU preventing it from making solid contact with the heatsink. Adding thermal paste *should* have helped, but as it dries, eventually it will break contact too.
      Now that you already have the extra thermal paste in there, you can try putting your camera back and using the "wad of paper" solution to press the APU up against the heatsink a little better. I'm pretty sure this should work. Every "solution" I've read comes down to issues caused by over heating.

    did this worked for about 10 mins. tried it again and it instantly heats up the top part of the phone. Moved on to the G5,hopefully it lasts my two year contract. And not two month's short like the G3 did.And as far as the bending and twisting, had mine open once in 22 months to install a sd card,& it was in an otterbox case the entire time. Never dropped it, and only ever had it in a jacket pocket so i would never bend these newer phones. Babied this thing cause i wanted it to last.& it still screwed up.

    this is why tech companies don't want the phones being opened by their owners. I love being able to swap batteries, but with the G3 being so thin the action of twisting open the back cover is not good for the internals of the phone

    Unfortunately this "fix" didn't work for my G3 :( stupid LG update when I first got the phone from verizon overheated my phone to the point it'd shut itself off, or completely freeze and have to hard reboot a gazillion times. I started noticing my phone overheating recently and bam... flickering fading and then blank screen. So frustrated as I have no back up phones.

    This fix didn't work for me. The paper trick worked temporarily. In the end, I fixed the issue by baking my motherboard in the oven for 6-7 minutes. I followed the method outlined here: forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/diy-h815-usa-variant-hardware-boot-loop-t3311623
    I'm not sure exactly where the issue is, but reflowing the solder like this fixed it, so it's a connection that goes bad somewhere on the board.

    My cellphone start to fail after a travel in my car, using a car holder. This cause, I thing, a unnormal vibration. I think, this cause my black screen problem. I try the solution with a coin inside, over the procesor. This work for a 3 days. In that oparation, y made a check on the flex ribbons (I think, this is what fix temporaly the problem). Today, reading this video-blog, I just open my cellphone again and check the flex ribbons, again. And now, my LG is working...
    My conclusion is: the problem is due vibration caused by my car, drops and shocks. And what you need is to check the flex ribbons. I hope, many people would find a fix.

    has anyone tried replacing the board??? i tried the coin trick, the folded paper pressing against the board trick and even detaching the camera ribbon from the board. All that i have mentioned worked for me but only temporary(couple of hours), sighzz i need a permanent fix.

      Lucien Thomas I bought a used LG G3 in good working condition from Ebay and swapped that motherboard into my old phone because my phone looked in better condition. That gave me a permanent fix. You can also find LG G3 motherboards on Ebay.

      Na real, tinha dado, mas agora ja fudeu tudo de novo. O meu fica flickering. O problema é a conexão. Tipo, atrás nele tem um cabo que liga a tela ao processador e isso esta com mal-contato. Vou levar amanhã na assistência técnica da LG. Que bosta...

    i did this and it worked. thank you. but now the rear camera doesn't take good pictures. they're fuzzy/grainy and tinkering with the zoom/focus doesn't help. i literally can't take a picture of words on a piece of paper and read them. (front camera still working fine.)
    anybody else??? any suggestions?

      Maybe check to make sure the connections are seated properly. Also this is an old phone with obvious hardware issues. Its probably just failing at this point

    LG won't get my business again. Very prolific problem = faulty design. Wish I hadn't paid full price for this ($700), but I liked the phone a lot until the Marshmallow update.

    Hi, I've done the same thing. Disconnected the connectors and connected it back. But now when I turn on my LG G3 I have a completely black screen. The connectors seems to be fine and nothing looks broken. I've also checked everythin twice. Is there somebody with the same problem?
    Edit: Ok, I started my phone this morning, and happily it is working! I've done the paper-trick and putted the board in the oven.

    • @stevefredrickson2236

      Yep, I just tried this trick and now it won't power on. I can hook it to a charger and the battery shows up on the display so I know the display is working. It just won't power on. Luckily I'm around the 24 month window on this phone - no more LG for me.
