    Surasak,
    Thanks a million for this. I tried two other fixes and they did not work. You are great! Best $.10 repair in history. Did it nearly an hour ago and so fare so good using one U.S. dime.

    Wow! I followed these instructions and I can't believe it. So far so good.Only suggestion, I used what is called a stainless steel #10 flat washer.I did offset the washer as instructed to clear the rocker switch and the power button. I did however secured it with a small piece of scotch tape to avoid any chances of it moving and shorting out any other circuits on the mother board. Thanks for the tip. I have until July to end my contract with AT&T for good

    btw i think if you guys just take your time and retighten the screws in a clockwise fashion you'll see the first screw you put in is very loose once you get to the last screw... do it 3 times to makes sure its a tight fit and an even hold all around. Remember you are putting a foreign object into the phone and its not going to be flush unless you softly level the phone.

    Hi there, thank you so much for posting this video with such a practical and simple solution . I live in the US and used a Dime (10 cents) coin instead and my LG3 phone stopped having the screen issues described in this video. Your posting saved me form having to purchase another phone., at least for now Thanks again.

    This has been a temporary fix for most people. What I understand is that the motherboard chip casing gets hot - and after time the solder joints from the motherboard chips break down to the board. I fixed (for now) by using adhesive copper strip folded over to make slightly thicker & cut it to the size of the chip. Smeared some contact adhesive to the outer casing of the chip and placed the copper strip onto it. So it'll serve 2 purposes - it'll add pressure to the pins from chip to the board and will also distribute the heat from the chip to the copper strip/phone housing. You will need to take the boards out - see other videos on youtube - when you remove the motherboard the motherboard chip is on the underside - i.e. you wont see it unless you turn the motherboard over

    Instructions were easy to follow. I used a US dime. There is one screw that is smaller than all the others, which I didn't notice at the time. I put it back in the hole right next to the camera lens. Hopefully that is the right one. Getting the interior cover off can take some "fingernail destruction" but be patient and just a little forceful and it will come off. Make sure you go around and make all the clicks to put it back in place before you replace the screws. And make sure you tighten the screws well. Go around a second time to insure they are all the way in. Looks good so far. Screen is again working properly. I'll come back and comment if/when the issue returns.

    • @jdosstech
      @jdosstech 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So this will not fix permanently or at least it did not for me. But I switched to another phone and then switched back and the issue has not re-surfaced for two days now. I saw another video that indicated that re-seating the SIM card can help. I wonder if it did. I had to do that to switch back and forth between phones. Could just be a coinkydink. We'll see...

    Used a U.S Dime and it worked for 2 days. The only way to get a permanent fix is to buy a new LG G3 motherboard and swap out your old one with it. Thats what I did. You can find them for around $80 on Ebay...saves a lot of money and hassle!

    Confirm this works, if only to get some important photos and docs and back up sms from internal storage, thanks man. For ref, my LG G3 had a boot loop. So the bad solder connections from chip to motherboard are definitely to blame and resolved with this applied pressure. Wouldn't say it would be permanent fix however. Thanks again.

  • @x11ap2008
    @x11ap2008 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It seems this did the trick for me. Our 5 and 10 colones coins in Costa Rica are soft enough to cut easily into a small square cuz they're too big. The piece needs to be no more than 1mm thick, otherwise the covers won't fit right. So far so good, no more screen flickering.. I hope it stays that way.
    I believe you are correct about not using paper or plastic; at the temperatures this phone gets sometimes, they might catch fire. Thank you!

    Hello, my LG G3 started with the fade to black syndrome this morning while watching TH-cam. I see you published in July. I was curious if you or another with F2BS had tried pulling the heat sink and putting a little arctic silver paste on it? Over the decades I have had to re paste heat sinks on a couple of PCs and have a tube of silver in the drawer. along the same lines, I would think a little dab of the silver paste would help keep a coin stationary and help with thermal transfer.
    I will also unplug and replug ribbon cables a couple of times as long as I will be that deep in the phones guts.
    Thanks, all food for thought. I will have to make a vid with the old S3.

    Thanks so much for making this video! I did paper trick first without removing back and that worked for a week. Just finished this putting a US dime in there per your instructions. So far so good. Note to others: notice there is one smaller screw - note where it came from (I think next to camera lens).
    Update - I found after a few weeks the problem started coming back. It seems the dime is too thick to allow the case to stay closed. I replaced the dime with a thin washer and so far so good.

    • @joelprice3746
      @joelprice3746 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the problem came back. I replaced washer with several layers of alum foil. Worked for a while, problem came back. Replaced alum foil with heat tape, worked for a few weeks, problem came back. Added more heat tape, worked for a few weeks, problem came back. Ordered a new phone, another LG, but different model, so hopefully the problem will not come back. Good luck.

    I don't understand why use a coin? Is it an electrical contact problem that's why we use a coin for the pressure?

    • @oldelectronics70
      @oldelectronics70 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roy, the reason for using a coin is not to add pressure nor an electrical problem. The issue is that the microprocessor that controls the display (screen) starts overheating as your phone gets older and the metal plate that comes with the phone is not enough to dissipate the excess of heat anymore just by itself . By putting the coin you would increasing the dissipation surface, allowing for the heat on the microprocessor to be under adequate operating levels. I hope this explanation does not get to you too late.

  • @tyzardoz
    @tyzardoz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Used a 5 sentimo coin from the Philippines, worked great. I'v seen a post claiming there is a software fix also for this issue
    "All what you have to do is :
    * 1 Root your phone [ be careful in this step ] .
    * 2 Install TWRP recovery mode
    * 3 use TWRP recovery mode to install CloudyG3 2.5.
    That's all and your smart phone will be look like LG G4 , fast,smooth, and New"
    The claim is that the phone doesnt run as hot with the new software.

I've tried different methods so I've concluded that it's just too much of a hassle so I'm gonna get a new phone. I will not buy LG phones again for the longest time. Thanks!

    • @barryhaeger4284
      @barryhaeger4284 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very public-spirited of you to sell a phone with a known fault!
      The real culprit I guess is that it is too tempting to put the phone in your back pocket and then sit down - I know I do that and have cracked two tempered glass screen protectors in past 6 months. However, if the environmentalist hadn't insisted on lead-free solder when making these consumer electronics then we would have phones wich are more resistant to the bending and twisting they get subjected to. So don't blame LG they are like all phone makers working to the law.

    Did the dime thing,lasted 7 days before flickering again. Now folded thick paper inside & working for now. See how long this temp fix lasts. Not my main cell anymore,so not worried just playing around with it now. Probably just have to keep replacing whaterever one puts in,as it compresses over time i imagine,untill it completly breaks.

      MrMaxinne Looks that way for most ppl. Good enough to transfer stuff to a new phone i guess. Using it right now. Deleted all apps that i could that eat data,not using it for videos and such so it doesnt heat up. Been using it for light use to see if that makes a difference. So just over 24hrs now with using the paper trick. See how it goes i guess. BTW i did get about 10hrs of video use with the dime over 7 days,phone didnt heat up as bad compared to before it shut down.

    Ehy guys, I wanna share with you what seems the PERMANENT solution: try to pull off totally the front camera (the main one) and put it outside the phone.
    Ok, you can think ... "wtf my phone without a camera?" I can say "better a phone with only a rear camera (the selfie camera) then an unusable phone...or not?"
    I really tried ALL the conventional methods (paper trick, coin trick, thermal paste, baking etc...)
    To use the rear camera I suggest to download an app called MXCamera and set the rear camera like the main one because the standard camera app will not start otherwise.
    If you can live without the front camera, try this trick and share the outcome with a comment to this.
    LET US KNOW IF IT WORKS EVEN TO YOU!!

    So paper trick was not working for me anymore, and I couldn't fit any coin inside because they were all too thick, instead I did the trick with folding up piece of aluminium foil and placing it on top of that heatsink, and it's working for now maybe it will last long enough to buy a new phone.

    The fix lasted less than 24 hours for my LG. Screen flickers and fades to black around
    50-100 times/day. But now, as a “bonus”, it also loses all signal/internet connection
    5-10 times/day and has to be restarted, or it gives a message saying the sim
    card is invalid, and that I have to replace it. After this, the phone crashes
    and restarts. This can’t be true! Hasn’t anyone found the real solution? We
    shouldn’t except that we have to chop up credit cards to make our phones work…
    temporarily…

    I solved it by inserting a copper wire..curved by the current wire, flattened with a clamp, under the processor and slightly touches the metal protection of the processor above, from the part of the Vol down button. The copper wire that protrudes the most cut it ... otherwise it goes to piggle the keys .... creating es: temporary mode. Perhaps the flickering and / or darkening of the display is caused by an electrostatic charge. I solved it like this!

    hi, I was doing it And now I got device hanging on after seconds from start up and then restarting.. can you suggest something? it's not software related

    • @master1111234
      @master1111234  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      please ,do not place the coin touch to the left connecter of the heat zink ,otherwise it will be a bootloop problem and don't make too much pressure. you can try again.

    • @ikakhmaladze200
      @ikakhmaladze200 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reply. after start up it freezes and keeps restarting. In recovery mode it's working Ok, tried reinstalling ROM as well. I don't know if it's related with this .. but never had the problem before.. just a bad coincidence? .. hmm..

    • @master1111234
      @master1111234  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ika Khmaladze . i have edit my answer on your question. the solution is move the coin to the left side of heat zink and don't make the coin touch to the left connecter. I have the same problem as you on my test and I fix it by using a smaller coin and do not place the coin on the middle of heatzink then it should be good. good luck for you.

    • @master1111234
      @master1111234  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ika Khmaladze anyway, do not place the coin under the power , volume up and down botton.

    Does it work on broken screen flickering

  • @cowardlykarma
    @cowardlykarma 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did this but when I turned it on the back where the coin was got very hot and so did the screen. Is this normal or is it a sign I messed something up. The also does not close all the way in the top left corner. I used a dime that I sanded down to be smaller

    • @master1111234
      @master1111234  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i did this method and my device was cooler than ever. I have no idea what is the cause of yours.

    • @cowardlykarma
      @cowardlykarma 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The heat is right where the coin is and it got hot when I turned it on. I took the battery out to turn it off after I felt the back. I guess it is hopeless for me :(
