It's not really that underrated. Sega Saturn was just not that good of a system. On the other hand the Dreamcast was a very innovative and interesting system with a good library to boot. So Dreamcast definitely underrated, Saturn.....not so much.

Yeah, the North American launch got botched just to get a lead on Playstation and it backfired plus they didn't bring many of its best titles like you said. It looks to me like it could've kept Sega as a major power in the video game world as the games on it look VERY impressive and on the level of PS1 games, too bad it flopped in North America and Europe.......
FYI deep scan was a game from the Sega sg-1000. the reason why was included was because it was used as a mini game where every submarine you destroy you get an extra continue for the main game. by the standard its actually pretty cool
I have a second model I fixed it the laser died when I got it and I had to replace it same now with power supply which I ordered the DC psu power supply board
Even though the Sega Saturn does have an impressive library of fun games, I think it's a shame that the system didn't have many decent Sonic games released for it, even though "Sonic X-Treme" would have been a promising title for sure if it wasn't canceled the last minute and replaced by a 32-bit version of "Sonic 3D Blast".
That's right this year hereby marks the 20th anniversary when both the Sega Saturn and Original PlayStation were released in 1995...man I feel old now.
Legendary Chop Chop The controller and fighting games were enough for me. Virtua Fighter 2(packed in with VC and Daytona), Marvel Super Heroes and Street Fighter Alpha were all I needed, especially with the controller. Found other games later on.
There were some good games that I played. D, ENEMY ZERO, MANSION OF HIDDEN SOULS SATURN VERSION, PANZER DRAGOON 1,2, CLOCKWORK KNIGHT, GHEN WAR, OFF WORLD INTERCEPTOR 3,000, FIGHTERS MEGA MIX< VIRUA FIGHTER 2, FIGHTING VIPERS, DRAGON FORCE to name some. I did snag some good imports and the trnslator cartridge. I did get the PHANTASY STAR COLLECTION and DRAGON FORCE 2.
I absolutely love the genesis, though I find that this era of gaming (ps1, Saturn, N64) is really hard to go back to. Mostly it's the primitive 3D that lacks detail and seems rather sluggish to control in a lot of cases. It feels like publishers were too forced to show off the latest 3D in order to compete, so they abandoned some amazing concepts from previous generations.
My Sega Saturn to this day sits in storage because until I started watching Game Sack a few weeks ago, it never dawned on me to get a new cable for hooking up to a tv. At least i think that's what was wrong with it if I recall. I still have Night Warriors, Dragon Force, Albert Odyssey and Guardian Heroes for it though. Man I was stupid to trade in Panzer Dragoon Saga after finishing it though.
I remember almost buying the Saturn because it got bundles with three games at one point. But my parents said no because I already had a Playstation and I think overall it was a good choice, so many good RPG's on the ps1.
It's crazy how far and fast games have come lol. I was already a pre-teen when i played some of this games on my Saturn and now I am still a young adult (cough cough) and I am playing games that just look from a hole different planet. Awesome to be a part of my generation and see all of this develop. I am very curious for the next 20 years!
Panzer Dragoon is one of my all time favorite RPGs and was sadly a Saturn exclusive. The sadder part is we will likely never see a remaster of it since they lost the source code :(
You have my deepest respect for showing off the dreamcast adn the sega saturn. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with two of the most underrated systems that contain so many hidden gems. I subscribed so keep them coming.
I had a Sega Saturn. Even had the video cd card for it as well. I remember watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and changing the disc half way through the movie. Happy times.
Recently became the proud owner of a japanese white Saturn :) This episode really sparked my interest for the system and since I have been reading about it and it's games. I really, really like discovering consoles, especially when they have excellent games in their catalog. Which is the case here. There are a couple of games that I absolutely HAD to play in 240p on my crt(even though they can be downloaded on modern consoles), and that are available as Saturn imports. One of them is the Dungeons & Dragons collection. Holy shit, that game is gorgeous. I had to pick my jaw from the floor after seeing it for the first time. I can already say that this game is my top 5 gaming experiences of all-time.
Grew up with every Sega console and love the Saturn. Still have it with it still has some of my favorite games. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, Albert Odyssey, Guardian Heroes, Nights, etc. Great era.
The Saturn is the only one of my retro consoles that I still keep hooked up to my TV. Not only because of the game library but because I love the Saturn's CD Player interface and the starship easter egg. It's a shame that there are so many games that I'm only getting to experience these days because of emulation.
I loved the Darkstalkers 3 playstation port. I got the saturn version years later and was blown away. I spent a lot of time with the arcade version and the Saturn version holds up perfectly.
Not sure how I found you guys but glad I did. In a world of Emulators and Pirated Roms. It is humbling to see true enthusiasts give classic games and systems the respect (or hatred) they deserve. Keep em coming guys! Sega Rules :-D
Emulators aren't all bad there good for people who really want to play certain games but can't afford it like my self why should the poor be robbed of experiencing great games all because we can't pay the greedy price that people are asking these days for certain games and consoles
Agreed, though most Japanese Saturn titles are leagues cheaper than their international versions. I only recommend emulating a game if you're curious about it, and want to give it a shot.
you can run burned games on the legit hardware pretty easily too, and saturn games look great on a CRT. not much wrong with it morally either considering that the saturn has been dead and buried for almost 2 decades at this point. saturn prices are just too crazy for me to bother with picking anything up that i can't get at a bargain price.
Man I miss old systems like the Saturn. Although I never owned one, I always wanted to get a Saturn but I just don't see many of them around. I love how Sega always thought about future upgrade-ability with the cartridge slot and mpeg video card. Too bad not many games used them. I think king of fighters 95 had an awesome idea with using both CD and cart for the game, bringing the best of both worlds to the Saturn, the storage capacity of CD and the speed of a cartridge. Imagine if more games tried things like that. They could even add more processing power and 3d rendering ability similar to the super fx chip in the snes with a special processor for one game, or an add on for many games like Segas own 32x. If used right the lifespan of the Saturn could have been much longer, allowing it to compete better with ps1 and n64. Who knows maybe it could've helped them retain market share until the dream cast was released which might've helped that system as well.. Well an old Sega fan boy can dream, right? Lol ;-)
Just a buy Saturn if you want one, they're only $80 or so - then add another $20 for the Action Replay cart and burn every game you ever wanted to play.
Just got a sega saturn (I'm a huge dreamcast fan and needed a new sega fix) my first stop was to watch you guys Game Sack (again might I add) and your views on the console. It's a wet dream for strategy rpg enthusiasts, I can't believe I waited so long!!!
Sega MegaDrive, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast are 3 of my all time favourite games consoles... SEGA knew how to make good games... all 3 consoles are still amazing to play to this day, SEGA stood the test of time and I will proudly, forever call myself a "SEGA FANBOY"
I bought the Saturn first then the PSX. In the long run, I preferred my saturn in the end. At the time I bought a PSX because the Saturn's 3-D sucked. super pixelated, lots of pop ups, etc. But in the end, both the PSX and Saturn polygon games aged poorly. However the Saturn 2-D games were awesome. Better fighting game ports, dragon force, iron storm, etc. I modded my saturn to play Japanese games since Japan had a much bigger library and was #2 in the 32/64bit race.
I agree, back when the system was out I was really young, I had a ps1 and n64 and didn't even know the Saturn was out there , I knew of the Genesis, just not the Saturn. While I do love my ps1, I spend far more time playing the Saturn simply because of how many amazing shoot em ups, fighting games and arcade ports the system had. It put the ps1 to shame in the 2d department, this is especially noticeable when you compare ports of Capcom fighting games like X men vs street fighter or the street fighter alpha series.
In Die Hard Arcade for the SEGA Saturn, deep scan is a side game that allows you to gain extra credits. After you quit deep scan, the game will restart and add the extra lives.
Hey Joe just got a Saturn and love it! I was starting to worry wasn't going to live up to how high you set my expectations, but once I got Sega Ages and can play amazing ports of Outrun and your fave Space Harrier I was in heaven. Keep up the great work!
1) I'm convinced that if the Segata Sanshirou commercials had been released in the States, the Saturn would have done much better. 2) Dark Savior is pretty much synonymous with the Saturn to me. Such a great game. 3) Solar Eclipse (post credits), Cyber Speedway, and Three Dirty Dwarves were some of my favorite games on the Saturn. 4) There was a Japan only Dragon Ball Z game on the Saturn that my friend imported. I don't remember the name, but it was probably the most legit DBZ game I've played to date.
Matthew C If the later Metal Slug games were not Playstation exclusives those would have proven how much of a 2D beast the Saturn was. Especially since they all could have used the 4MB RAM and dominated the Playstation ports for sure due to the Saturn having superior 2D graphics to the Neo Geo AES and proved this with its port of TSS. You know, I bet this is why Sony decided to get their hands on the franchise first. They must have known that the Saturn would have made those games arcade perfect with their RAM expansion and superior 2D processor so they simply bought the rights to avoid losing. But, that does not make me laugh as much as looking back on how scared Sony got whenever the Saturn got ANY well-known 2D game. They would BEG developers to let them have it as well because they believed Sony was all about 3D. So in the end, Sony realized that their teaming up with SEGA could have been better than they thought.
Jonathan Vergara nah, if Bernie Stolar wasn't a goddamn idiot and Sega didn't launch it early, it could have been successful. I definitely recommend trying out Astal. It's rare, but not super expensive.
I still have mine in my closet. I haven't played most of these games. I am glad you mentioned Last Bronx and Virtual On. Most people haven't even heard of them.
Excellent work! Thanks! SEGA Saturn is my favorite Console, but Gamecube und Dreamcast as well as SEGA Master System and of course SEGA Mega Drive were awesome!
Gaseous Clay Oh I occasionally forgot to mention the Game Gear ;-), best game on GG is Popils and of course thanks to the Master System Converter, some excellent games like Aleste (Powerstrike). Sega CD was great with some games like Sonic CD or Thunder Hawk and Final Fight CD, which had thanks to the CD awesome music.
McDaniel77 your first post was funny but i am seriously on the floor laughing at your second.. you my dear man are a shining light.. your lack of comic understanding is awesome.. truly truly awesome..
Clockwork knight was rushed and released unfinished soon after the rest of the game was released know a clockwork knight 2 but it was sold for only £19. The Saturn was hard to program for with made creating a game engine for sonic X-treme difficult and caused it to be canned, many believe this game would have saved the system. Tomb raider was released for the system first which was great at the time making your ps buddies jealous.
I got this console for Christmas in like 1996 I think. I was 9. Man did it rock my world. Virtua fighter, Tomb Raider, Virtua Soccer, Virtua Cop, Sonic something..., Sega Rally, Clockwork Knight...It all brings back such happy memories. I had previously had a Sega Master System 2, I remember that even my Dad liked to play that. He really enjoyed it I think. But people like him became instantly alienated when controllers had more than a couple of buttons. It just seemed like a hassle instead of 'a bit of fun' which is all he wanted from a game. He like Alex the Kid and Sonic. But yeah, I subbed, great video!
Sharif Sourour Yeah VF1 has some obvious quad use, hard to model people like that. Quads were good for walls though, the PS1 tended to glitch out along those diagonal polygon seams.
In Radiant Silvergun you were dodging the white and pink bullets. You are supposed to swat them with your sword to absorb them into a power meter which you can use to unleash a power sword attack. Hope that helps you have more fun next time.
You guys are like the history channel for me. I love listening to you when I'm editing or playing games. I love the breakdown of the hardware in the beginning. You two play off each other very well, and y'all are super funny. Thanks for the videos and giving me deeper understanding of the culture I grew up in. 🤓🕹👍🎮
Sega Saturn in 1998: Radiant Silvergun, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force 3.2 ; 3.3 and Premium Disk, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Deep Fear, Sakura Taisen 2 aso. Oh and Space Invaders released 1996 and not 1998 xD
Amazing review, you guys. I love the Saturn and Dreamcast, especially anything AM2-related. I've also learned a few games I didn't know, Decathlete looks really cool and thankfully it's cheap to buy. I also really liked Dark Savior and Tryrush Deppy.
I'm convinced that this is your most viewed episode because of Craig Stadler and his amazing holes. The ending skit had me crying with laughter... no joke!
Want to know what Die Hard Arcade would look and play like on a more modern system? Well, you may want to find the PS2 SEGA AGES remake, it's actually pretty good.
you have to be kidding me. They actually made an upgradable console. I mean yeah, its only the ram, but thats something at least, and this is 1994!!!!. Imagine if you could buy a gtx 970 cartridge for your ps4 nowdays, people could actually play games on 60 fps
I bought a lot of the games mentioned in this episode because of you guys. I going to play the games while this episode is playing in the background. I believe that all the game I got will be great, seriously, thank you guys for all the help!
The SEGA Saturn has a great load of games. Despite many saying it was SEGA's demise, I think quite the opposite. It is the most predominant console that SEGA has and only bombed because of its terrible management. The Saturn was such a great system with loads of potential, more than the Dreamcast by far; especially with Shenmue which surpasses lots of N64 and Playstation games in terms of graphics. It had the power, but not the faith. SEGA is an awesome company when it comes to games. In the end, I stuck with the Saturn. I had a Genesis, had a Dreamcast; both were awesome, but none had the same influence as the Saturn had on me with its library of second-party titles. I loved that system's games, its heavy dedication to Street Fighter with perfect arcade ports of every 2D title for it and much more. The controller feels awesome, especially the D-Pad; it is the only system I can call premium because its disc cases look cool and the discs themselves look awesome. At least, in Japan anyway. Its only flaws really are its lack of a special effects processor and not having backwards compatibility with Genesis titles. That was truly a screw-up to whoever thought that would be a BAD idea. As of today, everyone loves backwards compatibility. I bet Xbox One and PS4 begged for those systems to have it, and yet they both failed to deliver. I know it makes the consoles more expensive, but if having another awesome library of titles is what you are paying extra for then by all means go for it. Most of its current games outside its systems are not that good to me anymore. They have a few titles that were memorable parts of my childhood such as Super Monkey Ball among others. But, the actual SEGA systems had the best feel for their games in the end. The potential is what pisses me off about SEGA. All of their systems had great potential and only the Genesis got to reveal its own. I hope one day that homebrew developers port the first Puyo Puyo game to the Saturn, complete with a jewel case and disc in the vein of the original SEGA Saturn games. At least, the Japanese ones anyway. I am still upset that the Saturn never got a release of their own for Puyo Puyo in the form of the arcade version which it could have handled with ease. They still released that game long after its launch on many other titles. And yet, the Saturn was one of the systems not chosen to have the game. I know its sequels were on the Saturn, but those did not offer the same catchy soundtrack the first had. I cross my fingers that one day, just one day, the homebrew community ports this wonderful game to the Saturn.
Medachod I really believe that, despite Sega's most successful console being the Genesis, their developers were truly making their best games during the Saturn and Dreamcast years. But while I had all of Sega's systems, like you, it was the Saturn that had the most impact on me. At first, it was just the great arcade ports. In the mid 90s, we were finally getting cutting edge 3D arcade experiences at home, and Sega's arcade games were the best in the business. Home ports of Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter 2, and Virtual On drew my interest initially, but once I started to look deeper, I realized there was a different type of game available on the Sega Saturn. Games like Guardian Heroes, Shining the Holy Ark, Dragon Force, Legend of Oasis, Panzer Dragoon II, and most of all, NiGHTS, captured my imagination in a way that no library of games ever had before. Something about them spoke to me. And I feel like they spoke to only a select few others. Being a part of something so small -- being in on a great secret -- certainly contributed to my passion for the Saturn and its influence on me. I defended it constantly to my friends. I championed its obscure but great games in online bulletin boards. I stayed loyal to it, scouring retail chains for its final limited-release titles, until the summer of 98, when there was finally nothing left to play. Objectively speaking, its not the "best" system I've ever owned, but it's easily the one that means the most to me.
michaeloffgrid IMO, given I love playing 2D games, I believe it is the best system I own; but then again, it is one of the ONLY systems I own :P I own a PS2, but as soon as I grew up more I lost interest in it. I still play my Wii, but solely for Brawl hacking. I play the Wii U also, but the Virtual Console is lacking and there are no good games on it; if it weren't for Hulu and Netflix, I would have that thing sold by now, to be honest. I have no fancy Blu-Ray Player that can play Netflix and Hulu, so I have to stick to my Wii U for now. But, ever since I got my SEGA Saturn, there is rarely a day where I am NOT playing it; or at least, not thinking about it. I have a collection for it that is small; granted, most of the games are over a hundred dollars so naturally I would not have a big collection at all and I also strive to get the spine cards too so that makes it harder. But, every game is a blast to play and feature video game music I have never heard before that have really good rhythm to them and I still find myself listening to them outside the game; one in particular does not have any existing tracks available online, so I actually boot up the game just to go to its sound test to play the music. It is also fantastic that the system is not emulatable on PC which means, well homebrew is dead because of that, it feels like I own something that can ONLY be played when you own it, which is pretty damn awesome. And I own a high definition CRT with S-Video so my Saturn can run at native 1080p with no motion blur; perfect for the arcade-perfect port of Street Fighter Zero 3 which, to this day, no other system has replicated as well as the Saturn did. It is also one of the few 2D Saturn games released in the late nineties that utilized the system to its fullest. Thus, the Playstation port of the same game felt half a generation behind in comparision; even the DREAMCAST port felt behind. But, I believe said Dreamcast port had no load times and online versus so that was a plus. But, I am someone whom loves to play arcade-perfect ports so I notice the missing animations and would rather play it on the Saturn. Speaking of, the Saturn's arcade ports and exclusives are what make it feel future-proofed. Most of its arcade ports are not even available on anthology sets released on modern consoles, especially Sony ones that rely on their own inferior ports to re-release instead of the awesome SEGA ones. The exclusives are also pretty great and I own a 3D one that surpasses the N64 and Playstation in terms of rendering and graphical prowess; only suffering from the lack of transparency effects and gouraud shading but nothing else besides the special effects. It makes for a superior looking 3D game in the long run if gameplay is at question. The Saturn truly does have a legacy in terms of what it did to my life, outside its memorable games. It opened me up to Japanese culture more after I realized how many creative games that Japan made and I eventually went on to begin learning Japanese to understand the stories of said games. It also restored my faith in the 32-bit era in terms of catchy music. I believed only the 8-bit and 16-bit eras were the only ones that had foot-tapping tunes before I found more Saturn titles that surpassed them. And the stories in the games were also truly unique; one in particular is a very realistic life simulator that has many sequels. The first game lasts a year, the next a week and the third lasts THREE years; not once having a moment of repetitiveness due having thousands of dialogue both written and voiced alongside very detailed frames of animation that are at the system's highest resolution. I own quite a handful of Saturn titles that utilize the system rather well; some not even relying on the 4MB of RAM that is available. One even has TRUE transparencies without slow frames. I kind of sound like a fanboy, but I just like the system a lot and that is all there is to it. If you want to know of some titles that have catchy music, gameplay, fully utilize the system or whatever, feel free to reply letting me know and I will throw some at ya. Truly, it is SEGA's best system to me and restored my interest in video games again before I began to lose interest altogether.
Medachod There are so many games I wish were brought over in North America :( Grandia is a prime exemple. So is Princess Crown, Policenauts, etc etc. Tons of RPGs too.
My favorite Sega Saturn Games are: Alien Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 2, Doom, Deep Fear, Resident Evil, Tetris Plus, Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors, Virtua Fighter 1-2, Virtua Cop 1-2, X-Men: Children of the Atom, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Alone In the Dark 2, Enemy Zero, Star Fighter
My favorites are Elevator Action Returns, Battle Garegga, Batsugun, Guardian Force, The Parodius games, Darius Gaiden, The Salamander Collection, Capcom Generations 1&2, and Soukygurentai. I love Dodonpachi but prefer the arcade version to the Saturn port, same with In the Hunt.
I love my Saturn, got most of the games in this episode, one game I thought would make it here but didn't is "Three Dirty Dwarfs". I had the Saturn during my High School career, lots of fond memories playing with friends, great episode!!
I'm actually 13, and I own quite a few retro consoles (including a Saturn! Gotta love me some Decathlete and Virtua Cop.) Problem is, I can't get many Saturn games, since I live here in Mexico, and the only way to get some is through online shops. And also, thanks for showing me some Saturn games, GS. Your show is amazing. P.S.: GIMMIE YOUR HOUSE OF THE DEAD PLEASE.
Solar eclipse! Great memories! I loved Panzer dragon too. I use to own lots of these games including virtual fighter and sega rally championship, still one of my favorite racing games of all time.
You still haven't answered my question, David.

You ask many questions Craig Stadler. I'm sure he'd like to try to get it inside.

Sarahsaurus Rawr depends on the game, really. Astal holds up well.
+Sarahsaurus Rawr To the point of the commenter above, this is why many 2D Saturn games still shine today compared to mostly 3D PS games.
Glad to see the Saturn finally getting some recognition after all these years.
Craig Stadler is still around, there is time yet for a sequel we all deserve
My favorite episode, you could tell Joe has a lot of love for the Saturn!
Also... the wheel.... looks... fine!
I still have those stickers in my Saturn box!
Hands down Game Sack is one of the greatest shows you youtube.
Yep I love this channel
My Sega Saturn to this day sits in storage because until I started watching Game Sack a few weeks ago, it never dawned on me to get a new cable for hooking up to a tv. At least i think that's what was wrong with it if I recall. I still have Night Warriors, Dragon Force, Albert Odyssey and Guardian Heroes for it though. Man I was stupid to trade in Panzer Dragoon Saga after finishing it though.
craig stadler is the funniest gag in game sack history i hope he returns someday
You have to comment on this is 9 more years. I wonder what your opinions will be on future consoles
Panzer Dragoon is one of my all time favorite RPGs and was sadly a Saturn exclusive. The sadder part is we will likely never see a remaster of it since they lost the source code :(
There's no need of the source code, it won't take a year with modern programming tools to redo the same game from scratch with HD graphics...
Revz8bit they remade it lol
You have my deepest respect for showing off the dreamcast adn the sega saturn. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with two of the most underrated systems that contain so many hidden gems. I subscribed so keep them coming.
If you had a Saturn and the means to import games back in the 90's you got some of the best games of all times.
OH.. MY GOD! That Die Hard game at 14:30!!!
I had a demo of it and I used to play it all the time always wishing I had the full thing.
I had a Sega Saturn. Even had the video cd card for it as well. I remember watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and changing the disc half way through the movie. Happy times.
The Sega Saturn looks awesome..such an underrated device
Recently became the proud owner of a japanese white Saturn :)
This episode really sparked my interest for the system and since I have been reading about it and it's games.
Great era.
Loved the Shining Force games, never knew there was a third one on Saturn... DAMN!
I was hoping that you'd mention Legend of Oasis. I really love that game.
The Deep Scan mini-game in Die Hard was used to get extra lifes for the main game.
saturn was the one major console missing from my collection for years, but i finally got one about a month ago. i've been having a blast
Sega Rules :-D
dipngoautocolor some sega saturn games do not run properly on an emulator so check out the compatibility list before you download a game
Still have my Saturn to this day. Have alot of these games including Panzer Dragoon Saga. Love Game Sack. Appreciate you!
It put the ps1 to shame in the 2d department, this is especially noticeable when you compare ports of Capcom fighting games like X men vs street fighter or the street fighter alpha series.
its unfortunate the saturn ended third in the US :(
+Brad Tyler that's an opinionated statement there sir.
my Saturn was stolen that's when I got a PS1 :( of course now I have multiple saturns all Japanese versions and a hi-Saturn and victor as well.. :)
PS1 3D sucked worse. Polygon Clipping, Loss of Textures. Ugly, mishaped Planes and Grainy polygons.
I love how in depth and informative these series of videos are, really to just sit back and watch. Good work guys.
the 4mb expansion was KING with arcade games
Grandia is by far one of the best RPG's I have ever played! Seriously underrated. I'm surprised it was left out of the RPG episodes xD
I don't remember the name, but it was probably the most legit DBZ game I've played to date.
personaklly I feel if the SNK titles were released in the US it would have save both the saturn and SNK
That would be Dragon Ball Z Legends. I still have my imported copy on PSOne
Cyber Speedway, ugh that game was amazing. I loved the art style and everything. I need to get one of these again
Oh man, the amount of games packed into this episode is astounding. This is excellent!
"Thanks to Joe"
*don't touch me*
Excellent work! Thanks! SEGA Saturn is my favorite Console, but Gamecube und Dreamcast as well as SEGA Master System and of course SEGA Mega Drive were awesome!
hilarious post... i am gonna take a stab and say you also enjoyed the game gear, 32x, and sega cd. absolutely hilarious..
McDaniel77
your first post was funny but i am seriously on the floor laughing at your second.. you my dear man are a shining light.. your lack of comic understanding is awesome.. truly truly awesome..
YOU are NOT alone... ^_^
Saturn =
Clockwork knight was rushed and released unfinished soon after the rest of the game was released know a clockwork knight 2 but it was sold for only £19.
The Saturn was hard to program for with made creating a game engine for sonic X-treme difficult and caused it to be canned, many believe this game would have saved the system.
Tomb raider was released for the system first which was great at the time making your ps buddies jealous.
lol. I love re-watching this just for the Craig Stadler bits. CLASSIC!
I liked the music in Clockwork Knight.
You did? How sweet.
The Saturn renders quads, not polygons.
I have the PAL-E retail Die Hard Arcade. It was called Dynamite Dekka in Japan.
whats the difference between quads and polygons?
I think he meant to say quads instead of tris. Either way it's polygons.
It's also a bit of a misnomer for the platform since the Saturn can draw triangles, it just renders quads faster so they tried to use quads more.
Explains why models often looked a bit blockier but less glitchy.
Sharif Sourour Yeah VF1 has some obvious quad use, hard to model people like that. Quads were good for walls though, the PS1 tended to glitch out along those diagonal polygon seams.
They used "The Spiral" from Scorcher's soundtrack for the intro track.
Yep, I'm that big a Saturn fanboy.
Sega was just so ahead of its time
As was Dreamcast.
Man, those pretty Saturn sprites....
Psx in 1998: Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 2
Nintendo 64 in 1998: Ocarina of Time
Sega Saturn in 1998: SPACE INVADERS
Sega Saturn in 1998: Radiant Silvergun, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force 3.2 ; 3.3 and Premium Disk, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Deep Fear, Sakura Taisen 2 aso. Oh and Space Invaders released 1996 and not 1998 xD
Great video guys, really enjoyed it. Still have my model 1 Saturn hooked up and ready to go to this day. Easily my number 1 console of all time.
Amazing review, you guys. I love the Saturn and Dreamcast, especially anything AM2-related. I've also learned a few games I didn't know, Decathlete looks really cool and thankfully it's cheap to buy. I also really liked Dark Savior and Tryrush Deppy.
Saturn has some amazing RPGs
4:40 A brown tomato?? umm.. its the dude's HAT. lol :)
I loved the Saturn. one of the best systems ever. As a fighting game junkie.. Saturn was heaven for me.
Absolute!
I'm convinced that this is your most viewed episode because of Craig Stadler and his amazing holes. The ending skit had me crying with laughter... no joke!
Craig Stadler: Want to come in my garage and fix the helicopter?
Dave:
The Saturn controller was perfect for arcade games.
Want to know what Die Hard Arcade would look and play like on a more modern system? Well, you may want to find the PS2 SEGA AGES remake, it's actually pretty good.
This video alone was worth subscribing.
In 2021 I became a new owner of a Saturn, after decades. I am interested in Shmup games, but Sonic and Pandemonium are ok.
The log is a classic 身代わりの術 or substitution jutsu. Basically, it's saying your character ran away and switched himself with a log or rock.
EVERYONE NOW! "SEGATA SANSHIROU! SEGATA SANSHIROU! SEGA SATURN, SHIRO!!!"
SEGATA SANSHIRO, SEGATA SANSHIRO SEGA SATUUUUUURN SHIROOOOOO!!!!
you have to be kidding me. They actually made an upgradable console. I mean yeah, its only the ram, but thats something at least, and this is 1994!!!!. Imagine if you could buy a gtx 970 cartridge for your ps4 nowdays, people could actually play games on 60 fps
+FellTheSky So, like a PC?
I bought a lot of the games mentioned in this episode because of you guys. I going to play the games while this episode is playing in the background. I believe that all the game I got will be great, seriously, thank you guys for all the help!
Great collection of games. I would have also added Enemy Zero, Duke Nukem, Quake, Exhumed and Keio2 Flying Squadron as well as the Gundam Side Stories
That ending was hilarious.
Objectively speaking, its not the "best" system I've ever owned, but it's easily the one that means the most to me.
michaeloffgrid IMO, given I love playing 2D games, I believe it is the best system I own; but then again, it is one of the ONLY systems I own :P
I own a PS2, but as soon as I grew up more I lost interest in it.
Medachod Saturn can't magically be 1080p unless you mod the system.
rep5281
Upscale! :D
Medachod There are so many games I wish were brought over in North America :(
Grandia is a prime exemple. So is Princess Crown, Policenauts, etc etc. Tons of RPGs too.
I found a copy of Psychic Killer Taromaru at a local thrift store for 99 cents. I bought it immediately.
youre as lucky as my friend who bought a gtx 970 for $10
+Lizrad Sceptile you're about as stupid as the typical pet rock.
Xfr R there are retards on plenty of sites selling computer parts for way cheaper than they normally are.
Sure you did. And I found a pot of gold at the end of a beautiful rainbow.
You don't have to lie to kick it
My favorite Sega Saturn Games are: Alien Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 2, Doom, Deep Fear, Resident Evil, Tetris Plus, Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors, Virtua Fighter 1-2, Virtua Cop 1-2, X-Men: Children of the Atom, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Alone In the Dark 2, Enemy Zero, Star Fighter
My favorites are Elevator Action Returns, Battle Garegga, Batsugun, Guardian Force, The Parodius games, Darius Gaiden, The Salamander Collection, Capcom Generations 1&2, and Soukygurentai. I love Dodonpachi but prefer the arcade version to the Saturn port, same with In the Hunt.
irina1296 Mine have to be Shining the Holy Ark, Heir of Zendor, and Ghen War.
I love my Saturn, got most of the games in this episode, one game I thought would make it here but didn't is "Three Dirty Dwarfs". I had the Saturn during my High School career, lots of fond memories playing with friends, great episode!!
NOW I WANT A SATURN!!!!
SEGA!
AM I THE ONLY 10 YEAR OLD KID WHO LIKES NO LOVES OLD CONSOLES EPSICALLY THE SATURN
I sure hope not! We need more younger people who appreciate retro goodness! :)
Game Sack yea i tired to talk to my freinds but all their into is ps4 xboxone and wii u
UnGamerChico no i brought mine at a 2nd hand shop it took me 3 years to find
TheUsbGamer im 12 and I love the Saturn and the dreamcast
This deserves a part 2, as do the Dreamcast and GameCube
Last Bronx was such a good fighter game. I still have my copy! This game got me into practicing with Nunchucks.
Solar eclipse! Great memories! I loved Panzer dragon too. I use to own lots of these games including virtual fighter and sega rally championship, still one of my favorite racing games of all time.
