- I found this old VHS recording while cleaning out.
I think I recorded it from a transmission of the German-French tv station ARTE.

Amazing performance from this group.Great drum solo from Jojo and B D truly capturing the spirit of Jimmy Smith.
bloody hell what a trio!! is it even possible to play an organ solo and walking bass like that all at the same time. I should not be possible, I mean. how many brains would you need to make that happen!! Wow!

Jojo is his usual otherworldly self, and Barbara (who I'm not familiar with) is incredible. That last chord progression reminded me a little bit of Zappa.

Killer Drum Solo by Jojo Mayer Weckl-Colaiuta-Style.
Everybody impressed with the great keyboardist and have no idea who Jojo Mayer is and what he's capable, famous enough to be in the top 5 list of drummers on any drummer's favorite list. Not famous enough to be recognized by non-drummers. Kinda like Ian Paice. Get to keep some rivacy.

I read the video title and was expecting Harry Sokal to be the bass player after watching 1 and a half minutes of this performance. Barbara Dennerlein is walking bass with her feet!!!! OMG! Her limb independance is insane!

Jedenfalls hört es sich genau so an, wenn meine Nichte (6) und Neffe (2) "Musik machen".
Musik ist wie Kunst: versteht nicht jeder :)
Nichte und Neffe sollten vielleicht in dem Bereich gefördert werden und Auftritte absolvieren, wenn sie in diesem Alter schon solche Rhythmen und Tonleitern beherrschen
Durchaus vorstellbar, dass es Musik gibt, die besser ist als bestimmte Teile des Publikums. Doch jene werden das nie so recht identifizieren können. Hat man schonmal …
Es gibt Fast Food Musik. Die läuft im Radio. Und dann gibt es etliche Level drüber.
Oder Mathe als Beispiel. Da kann man 1+1 rechnen oder sich mit stochastic Auseinandersetzen.
Um es zu verstehen ist Erfahrung und wissen auf jeden Fall von Nöten 😉
@@henne2k Das Schärfste in diesem Zusammenhang unterlief mir in Gestalt eines gymnasialen Mathelehrers, der darauf bestand, nur Popularmusik mit höchstens drei verschiedenen Akkorden zu spielen und zu hören, möglichst nur taktweise wechselnd. Er mochte es dagegen gar nicht gern vernehmen, wenn ich ihm ausmalte, es könnte Schüler geben, die nur im Zahlenraum von eins bis zehn rechnen wollen. Wie inzwischen Etliche schreiben: finde den Fehler.
