      Also “I can’t leave you” “You never will. No matter what happens, I’ll always be with you forever.” Its really a shame this movie gets hated on because of historical inaccuracies when a lot of other movies are grievously inaccurate to their original stories like Hercules.

    I'm so happy I have the DVD where they didn't cut out this song because I feel it gives the story more depth. I seriously couldn't give a shit about the historical inaccuracy I still think that Disney should make a sequel on where John Smith and Poca are finally together.

    • @kristinahuchison2511

      I agree! I was hoping this was the actual video because I can’t find one on TH-cam with the moonlight palette (blue colors) I’m so mad we never got an actual sequel FINALLY giving us Pocahontas Smith

    • @rosieleaverton
      @rosieleaverton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kristinahuchison2511 I think they probably won't because historically, John Smith and Pocahontas weren't in love, and I heard Disney got backlash over portraying them like that. Cute idea, but Disney probably won't want to face more backlash.

    • @kristinahuchison2511
      @kristinahuchison2511 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@rosieleaverton I mean the sequel got even more hate to the point John Rolfe doesn’t even appear in merch or anything. I’m not kidding there’s like 1%> of fans that actually liked the sequel and stupidly preferred Rolfe instead. I know that Pocahontas probably isn’t getting another sequel, considering 2 was only made to change her love interest to Rolfe in the first place. But I also think it’s because Mike Gabriel the director of the original said Pocahontas and John Smith were designed to be the Romeo and Juliet of Disney, making them the ONLY couple that don’t get a happily ever after unfortunately. I mean I even heard Disney is planning on making a live production, I’m kinda curious to see what they’ll do, considering if they try a more historically accurate approach like the sequel it’d create just as much hate as Mulan got because its Disney, not a history channel. But sadly I really can’t see them actually keeping Pocahontas and John Smith a couple, if there was a subplot romance it’d be either with Kocuom or John Rolfe because she married them in real life. I DON’T WANT A LIVE UNLESS POCAHONTAS AND JOHN SMITH REMAIN A COUPLE. And honestly I’d be disappointed if they didn’t keep the heartbreaking ending, considering that’s what made Pocahontas stand out as a Disney movie. If I got to make any movie I wanted with absolutely no questions or limits I’d either make an actual sequel to FINALLY give us Pocahontas Smith or a live action of the 95 production.

    • @kristinahuchison2511
      @kristinahuchison2511 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rosieleaverton also Pocahontas wasn’t the only Disney film to get criticized, I’m just pointing that out. That’s part of why Tiana is one of the less popular princesses.
      Also I kinda don’t get how Anastasia is a really popular princess film considering the REAL Anastasia freaking died when she was around 10 I believe, even the depictions of her royal life were pretty inaccurate considering how she actually lived in the winter palace, nor do they actually mention how her family was assassinated or why. The only thing I could think of was she is a European princess, while Native Americans have always had a troubled past with how they’re depicted especially in old fashioned cartoons and such.

      Alyanna Sophia John Smith in the sequel does not even remotely remind of the John Smith we know, it's as if Disney had created a new character that is the antithesis of John Smith. I wish my eyes never saw that terrible sequel :(

    • @ankymrn
      @ankymrn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Destiny Erick yes, but so was Mulan and likewise the story was adapted. It's not a documentary movie, it's a fantasy animated movie inspired by a real life story, facts and people. And the final effect of this combination is glorious. Then for some reason they choose to milk this blockbusting cow and make a shitty sequel. Closer to the real facts or not, they destroyed the beautifully tragic, no-happy end (UNUSUAL FOR DISNEY!) story of Pocahontas and John Smith.
      PS Shakespeare also wrote history plays and you think that Richard III or Henry IV or Richard II were like Shakespeare portrayed them in the plays? No they weren't. Writers have one purpose: to tell a good story, with well structured characters. The creators and writers of Diseny's Pocahontas did exactly this with the prequel. Tl;Dr. The sequel is neither good storytelling nor good writing.

      My goodness, I don't know where did you get the vibe I was "so angry" but apparently nowadays one cannot have a strong opinion on anything without being accused of getting angry.
      "no reason to reply to me and tell me how bad it was that i agreed with every aspect of the sequel." ? Hang on... so you can voice and argument your opinion and I can't? I thought that's what youtube, among others, was for. Sorry, my bad!

    • @ankymrn
      @ankymrn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Basing on what you just wrote, I'm inclined to believe that 75% of what you thought happened was just in your head. Again, strong opinion does not mean one 'gets angry'.
      The purpose of me referring to Shakespeare was merely as an example to support my argument. It's what first came to my mind so I went with it.Destiny Erick

I didn’t get to watch Pocahontas until I was older, but I remember watching the Colors of the Wind promo on either Aladdin or the Lion King and instantly fell in love with John Smith lol. The running through the forest with sunlight scene and especially the sunflower scene were always my favorites! Oh man I was so shocked and heartbroken when I saw the ending the first time. I'll never forget the day my high school sweetheart left me (not his fault, he had a tough child and teenagehood and did what he had to do to build a better life) I told him I didn't want him to leave, begged him not to go, and with tears in his eyes he said "just keep me tucked away in your heart. As long as you do that I'll always be with you." 10 years later we found our way into each others lives again (albeit long distance and living in different states) and became best friends and remained that way until the day he died. Oh and I forgot to mention the best part of this whole love story. His name is John.

    • @kristinahuchison2511
      @kristinahuchison2511 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww! That’s so sweet. As much as I was crushed at the heartbreaking ending of Pocahontas, I really feel the ending fit the more mature dynamic of their relationship. Like John jokes “What pain? I’ve been in worse pain than this, can’t think of any right now, but….” And its a indication that he hasn’t experienced the worst pain yet, saying goodbye, something he NEVER does in the movie until the ending. It shows how badly he wanted to be with Pocahontas and flat out didn’t want to be a captain anymore. And I find the part where he waves to her so sweet, because he never forgot how to say goodbye in her language, just never wanted to. Though I’m mad the ending song isn’t called Anna or we hear a faint “anna” whisper in the last shot of Pocahontas. Like as much as I absolutely hated Pocahontas and John were the ONLY Disney couple that got a sad ending, I still slightly dig it, because unfortunately sometimes love just doesn’t work the way we want. Its a beautiful example of showing your love for someone will keep on burning as long as they’re in your heart.
      Why the crap Pocahontas chose Rolfe over him was a massive insult and a huge middle finger to the beautiful love between Pocahontas and John Smith.

      Stupid test audiences were little kids that got bored and fussy during this part, which is so stupid why they cut it because a bunch of stupid brats. Kids almost never want to listen to a song unless it’s visually appealing. If I Never Knew You is meant to be intimate in the here and now as John Smith truly believed this would be his last moment with her, so he’s pouring his heart and soul out to her singing about how much he truly loves her and would rather die loving her than live his entire life never knowing her. I mean the fact he can’t hold her in his big strong arms to show he won’t ever leave her and will protect her from any danger completes this song entirely, especially during her solo she actually is sitting in his lap trying to be as physically close to him as possible.
      Pocahontas already is one of the more mature productions with the backstory of colonialism alone, and Pocahontas and John Smith have the most beautiful and powerful love, because they had actual trials to endure and actually took the time to get to know each other. So really it already wasn’t meant for 5 year olds.

Seriously what the hell was she thinking of leaving a hot cartoon man . How selfish is she. Mel Gibson has a nice singing voice.

      I agree! Not she was selfish as she wanted him to live more than being with her knowing his wound unfortunately would kill him eventually. Colors of the Wind is the main song, and it’s literally about valuing life, hence why it’s the ending instrumental instead of If I Never Knew You. But I beyond agree with her dumping him for John Rolfe 🤢🤮 He isn’t even hot, let alone attractive, and she dumped the hottest Disney male character ever (aside Flynn Rider) like gurl WTF?! This dude almost died for you and you told him to get lost?!

    When I was young, I read cartoon strip about Pocahontas. John Smith was portrayed as an adventurer who was always away on exploration voyages. He loved public accolades for his exploits than staying committed to Pocahontas. Did he propose marriage to Pocahontas? While Pocahontas waited, Rolf was always there. Rolf proposed. Pocahontas accepted. Even though she married Rolf, the memory of John Smith still lingered in her memory. She was disappointed with John Smith. He never asked!!

    • @kristinahuchison2511
      @kristinahuchison2511 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does. If you ignore historical accuracy, personally I think Pocahontas is one of the most beautiful movies, especially with the artstyle having a more realistic look with Pocahontas and John Smith because they’re based on real people. Plus I really dig Pocahontas and John Smith have one of the most mature relationships in Disney, given how they interact, specifically kissing, and the ending having a more mature conclusion. Sadly love doesn’t always work the way we want, and in the end Pocahontas loved John so much she insisted he returned without her, knowing he might die before he even made it back, which further added to the sadness of choosing her people over her dreams to see his world. We all know as soon as he got better he’d be on the first ship back, even if he wasn’t able to walk yet. Why Pocahontas 2 had to ruin EVERYTHING 🤬

      @@SunshineBarbie-sv4bi eh, because people are blind. Same morons who can’t see how much he changed into an amazing man who was fully prepared to die for Pocahontas and her people if it meant she’d be safe. Like come on, he was even willing to die in her land if he could stay with her because he understood how much her people meant to her! Legit I just can’t see why some idiots are too judgmental of him and criticize him of being racist at first. Like yeah he’s a bit of a jerk at first, but at least he learned from his mistakes and even argued with Ratcliffe about the war. He changes immediately, he doesn’t take forever in admitting he was wrong like Aladdin who took the entire damn film to stop lying to Jasmine. Like I don’t get why a liar is hailed as one of the best Disney princes, BUT a man who almost died saving his girl’s dad is criticized and unfairly judged for being a real person. He was always my favorite prince aside Flynn Rider, and its so sad to see how he gets slammed for being a real and terrible person instead of just being seen as a Disney character. Like come on.

    I was just watching the movie in english (I'm argentinian so I've only watched in spanish) and I realise how sexy Mel's voice is when he said:
    "Look at me, I rather die tomorrow than live a hundred years without knowing you"
    That part just melted me.
